The CCU Education and Physics cut-off mark, if the course is admitting, is 150 in the UTME, the national minimum JAMB set for universities for 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a departmental cut-off for it and did not declare its own figure at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting. Whether the course is running at all is the first thing to settle.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Important: Education and Physics is on JAMB’s course list for CCU (exact JAMB name: Education and Physics), but it is not on CCU’s own programme list. CCU’s Faculty of Education page names fifteen B.Ed. degrees, and Physics is not one of them. The NUC’s accreditation results for CCU have no Education Physics line. So I can’t confirm that CCU currently admits into this course. Within CCU, the nearest fully accredited teaching degree is Education and Computer Science; outside it, ESUT and UNN run Physics Education. Ask CCU in writing before you register this course.

Why JAMB lists Education and Physics at CCU when CCU does not
JAMB’s course list for a university records every course the university has registered with JAMB. A university’s own faculty page shows what it presents to students now. When the two disagree, the course may be dormant, approved but not yet started, or folded into another degree. Public sources do not tell me which of these applies here.
Three facts point the same way:
- CCU’s Faculty of Education page: it lists fifteen B.Ed. degrees in two departments, Education Foundation and Science and Computer Education. The science department shows only B.Ed. Education and Computer Science and B.Ed. Education and Biology. Education and Physics is not there.
- The NUC record: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (September 2026) has nine Education lines for CCU: Business Education, Education Biology, Education Computer Science, Education English, Education Economics, Education Political Science, Educational Management, Guidance and Counseling and Social Studies. There is no Education Physics line. CCU’s B.Sc. Physics, which appeared in CCU’s 2026/2027 advert, has no NUC line either.
- No NUC report page: a search of NUC’s published accreditation reports turned up CCU reports for Accounting, Business Administration, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Economics only.
The faculty page was last edited on 1 February 2024, so it could be behind. Even so, I would not register a course on JAMB that a university does not show anywhere on its own site without written confirmation. CAPS proposals come from the department, and a department that is not admitting cannot propose you.
What to ask CCU before you register
- Is the course admitting for the session you are applying to? Ask for a yes or no in writing, by email.
- What is its NUC status? A new course can run before its first NUC visit, but you should know that before paying.
- Which department will teach it? If the answer is the Department of Science and Computer Education, ask why it is missing from the faculty page.
Use the contact details on ccu.edu.ng or the admission portal. CCU said in August 2026 that admission letters go out only through the portal and the applicant’s registered email, so ignore anyone who offers to confirm a place by phone or WhatsApp for a fee.
CCU Education and Physics cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | CCU’s own figure for Education and Physics | CCU did not declare one at the JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
| 2025/2026 | Not published | CCU’s own figure | None found |
| 2020/2021 | 160 | CCU’s general minimum UTME score for all programmes | CCU’s own How to Apply page, written for that exercise |
The 160 line is the only CCU-issued figure I found. It sits on the university’s How to Apply page, which was written for the 2020/2021 admission exercise and last edited in February 2022. CCU has not repeated it in any later notice I could reach, so treat it as history. The blog AbsTechConnect gave CCU’s cut-off as 150 in May 2026 without citing a CCU document; that matches JAMB’s floor and says nothing about this course.
Safe target score for Education and Physics at CCU (my advice)
Education courses at private universities rarely fill up on score alone. The NUC quota and the number of candidates with clean O’level results usually decide who gets in. The table is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a CCU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for CCU Education and Physics |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME. Look at CCU’s JUPEB or IJMB route, or rewrite the UTME |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible on paper; complete O’level papers and an early application matter more than the score |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable for a private university; this also clears the 160 CCU once used |
| 180 and above | Strong; ESUT Education Physics and UNN Science Education (both 160) are open too |
For a 2027 candidate I would aim for 160 or more. It is the figure CCU itself used in 2020/2021, and it also clears the 160 that ESUT and UNN asked for in 2026/2027.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Education and Physics
The JAMB brochure entry for Education and Physics has no CCU remark, so the general rules apply.
| Requirement | Education and Physics (JAMB general rule) |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name to register | Education and Physics (Coal City University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, and one other subject |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Physics, Mathematics and two other science subjects (NTC/NBC also listed) |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list) |
| Sittings | No more than two, per CCU’s older How to Apply page |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or an NCE credit or merit in relevant subjects |
Choosing your UTME subjects
The general line is short and easy to misread. Physics is fixed, Mathematics or Chemistry comes next, and the last slot is open. Several universities that add remarks ask for Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry together (AAUA is one). My pick is English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. It meets every version of the rule and keeps CCU’s Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science degrees open if this course is not admitting.
O’level points to watch
- Physics and Mathematics at credit: both are named.
- Two more sciences: Chemistry plus Biology or Further Mathematics is the usual pair.
- English at credit: required by JAMB and by CCU’s older admission page.
- Sittings: no more than two WAEC sittings, per CCU’s How to Apply page.
Direct Entry
The brochure accepts two A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or an NCE credit or merit in relevant subjects. CCU has no remark, so an NCE holder should first get written confirmation that the course is admitting. Since 2026/2027 all degree admissions, including NCE-based Direct Entry, run through CAPS.
How CCU screens Education and Physics applicants
CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach. For the university as a whole:
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | CCU invited applications for its undergraduate programmes (Myschool reprint, 18 May 2026) |
| Applicant groups | UTME, Direct Entry and transfer candidates (AbsTechConnect, May 2026) |
| Portal | portal.ccu.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 on CCU’s older How to Apply page and on AbsTechConnect (2026); pay only what the portal invoice shows |
| Test, date and format | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Admission letters | Issued only through the admission portal and your registered email (CCU notice, 13 August 2026) |
| Other routes | JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms advertised for 2026/2027 |
Worked example (illustrative)
CCU publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks margins and the subject rules.
Take Kelechi, who scored 166 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. His WAEC (two sittings) gives C4 in English Language, B3 in Mathematics, C5 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry, C5 in Biology and B2 in Civic Education.
- Eligibility: 166 minus 150 = 16 above JAMB’s minimum, and above the 160 CCU used in 2020/2021.
- UTME subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. He qualifies under every version of the rule.
- O’level: English, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology at credit in two sittings. He qualifies.
- Course check: before paying, he asks CCU in writing whether Education and Physics is admitting.
Now take Amaka, who scored 170 with English, Biology, Chemistry and Agricultural Science. She has no Physics in the UTME, so she does not meet the rule for this course however high her score.
Your options if you want to teach Physics
| Option | Where | Minimum UTME score (2026/2027) | Why consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics (B.Sc.) | Coal City University | 150 | In CCU’s 2026/2027 science list; no NUC line yet |
| Education and Computer Science | Coal City University | 150 | On CCU’s own list; NUC Full, maturity 2028 |
| Education Physics | ESUT | 160 | ESUT’s Faculty of Education band in its 4 July 2026 advert |
| Science Education (Physics option) | UNN | 160 to screen | UNN runs Physics Education within Science Education |
See our guides to ESUT Education Physics, UNN Science Education and CCU Physics.
Admission odds and advice
- Competition is low: teaching degrees at a private university attract fewer applicants than Nursing, Law or Computer Science, so a 150 to 160 score with clean papers has a real chance.
- Documents decide most cases: a missing subject credit or an O’level that is not on CAPS stops more applicants than a low score.
- Make CCU your first choice: if you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before CCU starts proposing names on CAPS.
- Check the course name: if you registered a course CCU is not running, a JAMB change of course to the right one is better than waiting.
- Dates: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities. The wider 2026/2027 exercise runs until 31 December 2026, and JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal.
Who this course suits
Physics teachers are among the hardest to find in Nigerian secondary schools, so a Physics Education graduate rarely struggles for a teaching job. The course suits a candidate who is strong in Physics and Mathematics and wants to teach. At CCU, register it only after CCU confirms it is running.
How to apply for Education and Physics at CCU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Coal City University and the course Education and Physics, with Use of English plus Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. CAPS cannot recommend you without it.
- Fill the CCU form: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, generate the invoice, pay the amount it shows and keep the receipt and printout.
- Watch for screening: check the portal and your email, since CCU has not published screening dates or a test format.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any official source I could reach. Pay only against an invoice on the CCU portal.
Before you pay
Education and Physics is on JAMB’s list for CCU but missing from CCU’s own Faculty of Education page and from the NUC’s results. Get written confirmation from CCU that the course is admitting and ask for its NUC status before paying any fee, apply only through portal.ccu.edu.ng, and never pay an individual for a place.
Studying Education and Physics
Is CCU Education and Physics accredited?
Not confirmed. The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results list nine CCU Education programmes, and Physics is not one of them. No result of any kind is recorded for it, which is different from a denied result.
What you study
CCU has not published a curriculum. A Nigerian B.Sc.(Ed.) Physics usually runs for four years from UTME entry:
- Physics content: mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, thermal physics, modern physics, electronics and laboratory practicals.
- Supporting Mathematics: calculus, vectors and differential equations.
- Education courses and practice: educational psychology, curriculum, physics teaching methods, evaluation, teaching practice and a project.
Careers
Graduates teach Physics and Basic Science after TRCN registration, run school laboratories, work with examination bodies and science education NGOs, and move into technical sales, energy and telecoms support roles. A master’s in physics or science education is a common next step.

Mistakes that cost Physics education applicants a CCU place
- Registering a course CCU does not show: confirm in writing first.
- No Physics in the UTME: it is the one fixed subject.
- Only three O’level sciences: you need Physics, Mathematics and two more sciences at credit, plus English.
- O’level not on CAPS when CCU starts proposing candidates.
- Paying an agent: CCU issues letters only through its portal and your registered email.

CCU Education and Physics cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Is Education and Physics offered at Coal City University? JAMB lists it for CCU, but CCU’s Faculty of Education page and the NUC results do not, so confirm with CCU in writing before registering.
What is CCU’s cut-off mark for Education and Physics? 150 if the course is admitting, which is JAMB’s 2026/2027 university minimum. CCU has no departmental figure; I would aim for 160.
Which JAMB subjects are needed for Education and Physics? Use of English, Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, and one other subject. English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry covers every university’s version.
Can I use a D7 in Physics for Education and Physics? No. JAMB’s rule needs a credit in Physics, Mathematics, English and two other sciences.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the rule that admissions must go through CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026. The 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and CCU’s absence from the declared figures is based on News Central’s 2026 list of university cut-offs. The course name comes from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s CCU course list, and the subject rules from the JAMB brochure entry for this course (Myschool reprint); both were checked on 30 October 2026. CCU’s own programme list is from its Faculty of Education page (last edited 1 February 2024), and the 160 figure, two-sitting rule and form fee come from CCU’s How to Apply page (2020/2021 exercise). The accreditation position comes from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) and a search of NUC report pages. The 2026/2027 advert is from Myschool’s reprint (18 May 2026); applicant groups are from AbsTechConnect and are unofficial. Comparison figures for ESUT and UNN come from those universities’ 2026/2027 notices as covered in our linked guides; CCU’s Physics listing is from Myschool’s reprint of CCU’s 2026/2027 advert. Checked on 30 October 2026. This page will be updated if CCU publishes a departmental cut-off or the NUC publishes a new result.
