The MOUAU cut off mark for Home Economics Education is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. MOUAU set that single minimum for all its courses in its 2026/2027 screening notice and did not publish a separate figure for Home Economics Education.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Scoring 150 only qualifies you to register for screening. Who gets admitted depends on how you rank against the other applicants. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME subjects MOUAU itself asks for, the O’level list, how screening works, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

MOUAU Home Economics Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for all MOUAU courses, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU notice (Myschool reprint, 20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs say 150; the earlier Myschool page now redirects to the 2026 article | Unverified |
| Departmental figure for Home Economics Education | None | Blog “departmental cut-off” lists cite no MOUAU document | Unofficial |
MOUAU published only the university-wide 150, so any blog table printing a separate “departmental” figure for this course is guessing.
Safe target score for Home Economics Education at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not publish the score of the last candidate admitted into each course, so the table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, and MOUAU set no such bands. It assumes your O’level subjects are complete.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Home Economics Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible to register for screening, but admission is uncertain |
| 170 to 189 | Reasonable chance with good O’level grades from one sitting |
| 190 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, ideally 190, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Home Economics (or Food and Nutrition), ideally from one sitting. That combination keeps you safe at MOUAU and at most other universities that run the course.
Catchment and merit
MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states for 2026/2027, so do not count on catchment to rescue a low score. A strong UTME result and clean O’level grades from one sitting are the parts you control.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Home Economics Education
| Requirement | Home Economics Education at MOUAU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (MOUAU remark) | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics |
| UTME subjects (JAMB general entry) | Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and one other subject, plus English |
| O’level (JAMB general entry) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Home Economics, Biology and Chemistry; some universities have waivers |
| MOUAU O’level remark | None shown on Myschool’s reprint of the entry; MOUAU’s notice weights grades and sittings |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Awaiting results | Register for MOUAU screening only after your result is out |
| Special requirements | None published beyond screening |
This is one of the few education courses where the JAMB brochure carries a remark written for MOUAU itself. JAMB’s general entry for Home Economics and Education asks for Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any one other subject. MOUAU narrows the fourth subject: it wants Mathematics or Physics. If you pick Economics or Government as your fourth subject because the general entry seems to allow it, you would not meet MOUAU’s remark.
Home Economics as an O’level subject is listed in the general requirement, and that catches candidates who never offered it in school. Several universities accept waivers, but no MOUAU waiver appears on the reprint. If you have Food and Nutrition or Home Management instead, confirm with the department before you buy the screening form. Chemistry and Biology credits are the part you cannot skip, because they carry the nutrition and food science courses you will take.
Direct Entry
JAMB’s general entry accepts an NCE with merit in Home Economics; two A-level passes chosen from Chemistry, Biology, Botany or Agricultural Science, one of which must be Chemistry; or an ND or HND credit in Home Economics, Food Science, Hotel and Catering Management or a related programme. No MOUAU-specific Direct Entry remark appears on the reprint, and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no separate Direct Entry rules, so ask the College of Education which level you would enter.
MOUAU’s College of Education is not a college of education
You may have read that from 2026/2027 JAMB stopped 100 level and 200 level degree admissions into colleges of education, and that NCE candidates no longer sit the UTME. That rule is about standalone colleges of education and the degrees they run with partner universities. MOUAU’s College of Education (COED) is one of the eleven colleges inside a federal university, and its courses were covered by the same 150 UTME notice as every other MOUAU course. You still need the UTME for Home Economics Education at MOUAU.
How MOUAU screening works for Home Economics Education
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint of the notice.
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2026 UTME with MOUAU as first choice; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment problems: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at a bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded so they reach JAMB CAPS |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| How candidates are ranked | UTME score, with O’level grades and the number of sittings both weighted |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the reprint |
Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. After you register, check the portal regularly: MOUAU told candidates to watch it for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for a Home Economics Education candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how the pieces interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). The method is my illustration; MOUAU has not published it.
- Chiamaka scored 196 with B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Chemistry, A1 in Biology, B2 in Home Economics from one sitting. UTME points: 196 ÷ 8 = 24.50. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 8 + 10 + 9 = 44. Illustrative total: 68.50.
- Uzoma scored 174 with C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Chemistry, C4 in Biology, B3 in Home Economics over two sittings. UTME points: 174 ÷ 8 = 21.75. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 = 32. Illustrative total: 53.75.
- The gap: 68.50 minus 53.75 = 14.75 points. Uzoma’s 174 is above the minimum and inside my reasonable range, yet the weaker grades and the second sitting leave her well behind Chiamaka.
Because MOUAU weights your O’level, a resit that turns a C6 in Mathematics into a B grade can be worth more than ten extra UTME marks.
How to apply for Home Economics Education at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Home Economics Education at MOUAU with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens; if you picked the wrong course, see our JAMB change of course guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU counts your grades and sittings, so upload your best single sitting.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and the receipt.
- Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there. No test date was published for 2026/2027.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from your portal invoice and pay only through it.
Warning
Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone selling a MOUAU “slot” or a “special list” place is selling something that does not exist. Pay MOUAU only through the invoice the portal generates for you.
For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied this year, look at CAPS instead of waiting for a printed list.
Studying Home Economics Education at MOUAU
On MOUAU’s official department list, Home Economics Education sits in the Department of Agricultural/Home Science Education in the College of Education (COED), alongside Agricultural Education. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, established by federal decree in November 1992. Studying the course in an agriculture university means you share teaching space with food science, nutrition and home science departments, which suits a course built on food, clothing and family resource management.
What you study
- Foods and nutrition: food science, meal planning, nutrition through the life cycle and food preservation.
- Clothing and textiles: textile science, pattern drafting, garment construction and care of fabrics.
- Home and family management: family resource management, consumer education, housing and interior decoration, child development.
- Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum and methods of teaching Home Economics, measurement and evaluation.
- Teaching practice: Nigerian education degrees include supervised teaching practice in secondary schools; MOUAU’s handbook gives the exact timing.
Degree title, duration and accreditation
MOUAU’s College of Education uses the B.Sc (Ed) title for its science education options, but I could not confirm the exact degree title for Home Economics Education. Education degrees in Nigeria usually run for four years from 100 level, which MOUAU has not confirmed for this course in what I found. No NUC accreditation status for the programme was published in the sources I checked, so I am not claiming one. To teach in a public school after graduation you register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Careers
- Home Economics or Food and Nutrition teacher in secondary schools, after TRCN registration.
- Tutor in colleges of education and technical colleges, usually after a master’s degree.
- Catering, fashion and textile businesses of your own; the practical skills transfer directly.
- Extension and community nutrition work with agricultural development programmes and NGOs.
- Postgraduate study in Home Economics Education, nutrition or family and consumer sciences.

Mistakes that cost Home Economics Education applicants a MOUAU place
- Choosing an arts or commercial fourth UTME subject: MOUAU’s remark asks for Mathematics or Physics.
- No O’level Home Economics and no plan: confirm a waiver with the department before paying for screening.
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it only gets you into screening.
- MOUAU not first choice: the notice requires it.
- Registering while awaiting results: MOUAU told awaiting candidates to wait until results were out.
- Ignoring CAPS: your offer appears there first, and the four-week acceptance window is short.
MOUAU cut off mark for Home Economics Education: frequently asked questions
Is 160 good for Home Economics Education in MOUAU? 160 clears MOUAU’s 150 minimum, so you can register for screening. It is below the 170 I would call a reasonable chance, so you need strong O’level grades from one sitting to compete.
Can I study Home Economics Education at MOUAU without Physics? Yes. MOUAU’s remark asks for Mathematics or Physics as the fourth UTME subject, so Mathematics alone is enough. Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science are the fixed subjects.
Do I need Home Economics in WAEC for this course? JAMB’s general entry lists it among the five credits, and several universities allow waivers. No MOUAU waiver is shown on the entry, so confirm with MOUAU’s College of Education if you did not offer it.
Which department runs Home Economics Education at MOUAU? MOUAU’s official list places it in the Department of Agricultural/Home Science Education in the College of Education. Agricultural Education is in the same department.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the MOUAU first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the JAMB 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The JAMB rule on colleges of education comes from JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide. The college and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026) and the About page of MOUAU’s College of Education website. The UTME subjects, MOUAU’s own UTME remark, the general O’level list and the Direct Entry routes come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Home Economics and Education. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration, and the course content and career lists describe how the subject is usually taught in Nigeria, not a MOUAU handbook. MOUAU’s fees, the degree title and the accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
