The MOUAU cut off mark for Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism is 150 in the UTME, with MOUAU as your first choice. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike used that single minimum for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice and published no separate figure for this department. So 150 is the official answer, and the score that actually wins a place is higher.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
This department combines home science with hospitality and tourism, and JAMB’s brochure lists MOUAU’s requirements under two names, Home Economics and Hotel Management and Tourism. Below are the official figures, my safe target score, both sets of O’level rules, the screening process, a worked example and the CAPS steps.
MOUAU cut off mark for Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| MOUAU minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, with MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice, via Myschool reprint (20 June 2026) |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official, JAMB policy meeting (11 May 2026) |
| Departmental cut-off for this department | Not published | No MOUAU figure exists |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 through Remita | MOUAU notice |
| College | College of Applied Food Sciences and Tourism (CAFST) | MOUAU department list |
| UTME subjects | English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Mathematics or Physics (or one Social Science subject, as printed) | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint); confirm on the e-brochure |
| Safe target score | 180 to 190 and above | My advice |
MOUAU Home Science and Hospitality cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | MOUAU minimum UTME score to register for screening, all courses, MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice signed by the Registrar, read through Myschool’s reprint (20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not verified | Blogs say 150; I could not open MOUAU’s own 2025 notice | Unconfirmed |
| Any year, Home Science and Hospitality only | Not published | MOUAU has never released a separate merit cut-off for this course in any source I reached | No official figure |
So the honest answer is that MOUAU runs one floor of 150 for every course, and Home Science and Hospitality has no published departmental cut-off. Pages that print a MOUAU “departmental cut-off” for Home Science and Hospitality do not cite any MOUAU document, so treat those numbers as guesses. Admission on merit is decided after screening, and the score of the last candidate admitted is not made public.
Safe target score for Hospitality Management at MOUAU (my advice)
This is my planning advice. MOUAU publishes no merit cut-off for this department.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Home Science and Hospitality |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; a fair chance with a clean O’level result |
| 170 to 189 | Good chance |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180. Hospitality and home science courses at universities of agriculture are usually less crowded than the health and engineering courses, but MOUAU’s weighting of O’level sittings still separates candidates on similar scores.
UTME subject combination for Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism at MOUAU
The brochure’s Hotel Management and Tourism page (Myschool reprint) names MOUAU among the universities offering the course. Its general UTME line, also used on the Home Economics page, reads: Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture, and Mathematics or Physics, or one Social Science subject. Use of English is compulsory on top.
The line is ambiguous about where the Social Science option fits. The safest registration that satisfies every reading is:
| UTME subject | Choice |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory |
| Chemistry | Register it; both MOUAU O’level remarks also require Chemistry |
| Biology or Agricultural Science | Pick one |
| Mathematics | Covers the “Mathematics or Physics” option |
Do not register an arts-only combination such as Literature, Government and CRS for this department. Chemistry appears in every MOUAU requirement for it.
O’level requirements: two MOUAU remarks
MOUAU’s remark in the brochure splits the department into two tracks:
| Track | MOUAU O’level remark (brochure reprint) |
|---|---|
| Home Economics (home science) | Five credits at not more than two sittings, including English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other science; at least a pass in Physics; an Agricultural Science credit must be backed by at least a pass in Biology |
| Hotel Management and Tourism | Five credits including English, Mathematics, Chemistry and any of Physics, Economics and Government |
If you want the hospitality and tourism side and have Economics or Government but weak Biology, the second remark is the one that fits you. If you lean toward home science, food and family studies, the first remark applies. Either way, English, Mathematics and Chemistry are fixed. MOUAU’s notice also weights the number of sittings, so one sitting is better.
Direct Entry
- ND and HND: the brochure says MOUAU accepts ND or HND in related fields.
- Entry level: ND holders at distinction or credit level and HND holders at credit level go into 200 level.
- Lower credit ND and NCE: ND lower credit holders and NCE double major holders at credit or merit level in Agriculture are admitted into 100 level, according to the same remark.
- A level: the general rule is two A level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Botany, Agricultural Science, Economics, Physics, Mathematics, Geography or Accounting.
- Nursing or NCE certificates: a line on the Home Economics page mentions SRN/NRN or NCE with distinction, but it is unclear whether it refers to MOUAU. Confirm with MOUAU.
How MOUAU screening works
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set out these rules for UTME candidates:
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng |
| Registration and validation | portal.mouau.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre |
| How O’level counts | The notice says O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| Payment problems | portal@mouau.edu.ng |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the notice as reprinted |
The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not assume there is one. Plan on MOUAU ranking you on your UTME score and your O’level grades, with one sitting counting in your favour, and keep checking the portal in case a test or extra step is announced. The notice also told candidates to check the portal from time to time for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for a hospitality candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example only compares scores against the minimum and my target. It is illustrative.
Take Ebube, who scored 183, with B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in Chemistry, B2 in Economics and B3 in Government, all in one WAEC sitting, plus D7 in Biology.
- Eligibility: 183 minus 150 = 33. He clears MOUAU’s minimum by 33 marks.
- Against my safe target: 183 minus 180 = 3. He is just above my target.
- O’level check: under the Hotel Management and Tourism remark he has English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics or Government, all at one sitting. He fits that track, though he would fail the home science remark without a Biology or Agricultural Science credit.
- My advice: apply, and make sure the course name on his JAMB form is the hospitality option MOUAU shows.
Compare Mmesoma with 165, credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science, and a pass in Physics. She fits the home science remark, and her score is eligible, but she is below my target. Clean grades from one sitting are her best support.
How to apply for Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism with English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics. If you already registered with another school first, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
- Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
- Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then shows on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount shown on your MOUAU portal invoice.
Warning
Some websites sell “MOUAU departmental cut-off” lists, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.

Mistakes that cost Hospitality and Home Science applicants a MOUAU place
- Registering an arts combination: Chemistry runs through every MOUAU requirement here.
- No credit in Chemistry or Mathematics: both MOUAU remarks require them.
- Matching the wrong O’level track: check whether you fit the home science or the hospitality remark.
- Treating 150 as a safe score: it only lets you register for screening.
- Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
- O’level not on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
If MOUAU is not your first choice, read JAMB change of institution. Writing again in 2027? See when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
MOUAU cut off mark for Hospitality Management: frequently asked questions
What is the cut off mark for Hospitality Management in MOUAU? 150, the minimum MOUAU set for all courses in 2026/2027, with MOUAU as first choice. MOUAU published no separate figure for the department.
Can I study Hospitality Management in MOUAU without Biology? The brochure’s MOUAU remark for Hotel Management and Tourism asks for English, Mathematics, Chemistry and any of Physics, Economics and Government, so Biology is not in that list. The home science track does need Biology or Agricultural Science.
Is Chemistry compulsory for Hospitality Management in MOUAU? Yes at O’level, in both MOUAU remarks. Register it in the UTME too, since the brochure’s subject line includes it.
Does MOUAU accept HND for Hospitality Management? The brochure says MOUAU accepts ND or HND in related fields, with HND credit holders entering 200 level. Confirm the details with MOUAU’s Direct Entry announcement.
