FCE Eha-Amufu does not use a UTME cut-off mark for Igbo Education (NCE) in 2026/2027. The national admission policy agreed on 11 May 2026 exempts NCE candidates with at least four O’level credits from the UTME. They still register with JAMB, and Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu offers them admission through CAPS. The college has not published a separate figure for Igbo or any Igbo combination.
2027/2028 update: FCE Eha-Amufu admission requirements and the NCE entry route usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official position (the 2026/2027 national admission policy) and the college’s most recent advert we could trace. If the 2027/2028 rules change anything, we will update this page.
Eha-Amufu is in Isi-Uzo, Enugu State, so Igbo is a home subject for most of its applicants. That makes the Igbo pairings a natural choice, and it also means you compete with many candidates who have good Igbo grades. Below are the cut-off history, the seven Igbo pairings on the college’s course lists, the O’level grades to have, screening with an illustrative example, the CAPS steps and what the certificate leads to. No official 2026/2027 course list was reachable, so confirm that your pairing is running before you pay.
FCE Eha-Amufu cut-off mark for Igbo Education at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| UTME score for NCE Igbo | Not required with four or more O’level credits | Official national policy, 11 May 2026 |
| JAMB registration and CAPS | Required | Official national policy |
| College cut-off for Igbo | Not published | No FCE Eha-Amufu figure found |
| Igbo credit at O’level | Not named by the college; strongly advised | My advice; degree-level brochure lists it |
| Admission deadline for colleges of education (2026/2027) | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB) |
| Programme length | 3 years regular; sandwich over 5 long vacations | College advert, 2021/2022 |
FCE Eha-Amufu NCE cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | No UTME score needed | NCE candidates with at least four O’level credits are exempt from the UTME but must register with JAMB and be admitted through CAPS | Official national policy (2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for colleges of education | Official national figure (JAMB, July 2025) |
| 2021/2022 | 100 | Minimum UTME score in FCE Eha-Amufu’s NCE screening advert | College advert, as reprinted by Myschool (1 October 2021) |
| Undated blog figure | 100 or “110 and above” | Figures printed by a blog for candidates who chose the college | Unofficial; no college document cited |
The college followed the national minimum of 100 while NCE still required the UTME. The 2026 decision dropped that requirement for credit holders and set no new number for colleges of education. So a “2026 Igbo cut-off of 100” is an older rule repeated.
Igbo combinations at FCE Eha-Amufu
These pairings appear on Schoolings.org’s list (2018, updated 2020) and O3schools’ January 2026 list. Neither is an official college page.
| Combination | Second teaching subject | Useful O’level subjects |
|---|---|---|
| English/Igbo | English Language | Igbo, Literature in English |
| CRS/Igbo | Christian Religious Studies | Igbo, CRS |
| Igbo/Social Studies | Social Studies | Igbo, Civic Education or Government |
| Igbo/Music | Music | Igbo, Music |
| French/Igbo | French | Igbo, French |
| Hausa/Igbo | Hausa | Igbo, Hausa |
| Igbo/Yoruba | Yoruba | Igbo, Yoruba |
The college has not published subject rules per pairing, so the third column is my guide to which subjects count as “relevant”. Hausa/Igbo and Igbo/Yoruba need a second Nigerian language that few South East candidates have; see our Hausa and Yoruba page before choosing either.
Safe O’level target for Igbo NCE (my advice)
| Your O’level profile | My read for NCE Igbo at Eha-Amufu |
|---|---|
| No credit in English or Mathematics | Not eligible. Resit first |
| Four credits with English and Maths, no Igbo credit | Meets the advert’s count, but weak for an Igbo course |
| Credit in Igbo plus a credit in your second subject | Strong |
| Igbo B3 or better, second subject credit, one sitting | The profile I would aim for |
This is my judgement, not a college rule. Because many applicants here are native speakers, a high Igbo grade is what separates you within the pool.
O’level and UTME subjects for Igbo Education (NCE)
| Requirement | Igbo Education at FCE Eha-Amufu |
|---|---|
| O’level (college advert) | Four credits in not more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics, two relevant to the course (2021/2022 advert; not re-confirmed) |
| Most relevant subject | Igbo Language |
| Exams accepted | WAEC SSCE, NECO SSCE, GCE O’level |
| Other routes (advert) | Grade II Teacher’s Certificate with credit or merit in four subjects including English and Mathematics |
| UTME | Not needed for 2026/2027 with four credits; JAMB registration still needed |
| If you sit the UTME anyway | Myschool’s JAMB brochure reprint lists Igbo, Literature in English and any Arts subject for English/Igbo. Use of English is compulsory. Confirm on the JAMB e-brochure |
| Direct Entry | Not used for NCE entry |
The same brochure reprint, written for degree-level English/Igbo, lists five credits: English, Mathematics, Literature in English, Igbo and another Arts subject. Colleges of education have usually asked for four, but if you plan a degree later, those five are worth having.
Short of credits?
The college has advertised a Pre-NCE programme for candidates who lack some credits. The 2026/2027 details were not available. A WAEC or NECO GCE resit is the other route.
How FCE Eha-Amufu screens Igbo applicants
According to blog reprints of the college’s adverts, you create a profile on the portal, generate a Remita invoice, pay at a bank, upload a passport photograph, enter your JAMB, O’level and birth certificate details and print the acknowledgement slip. The adverts say candidates must pass the college’s selection process. The 2026/2027 fee, dates and test format were not published in any source I could check.
| Detail | What we know |
|---|---|
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 in the 2021/2022 advert; current fee not published |
| Selection test | Required by the advert; format not published |
| Oral Igbo test | Not mentioned in any source found |
| O’level on CAPS | Needed for NCE processing in 2026/2027 |
| Ranking formula | Not published |
Worked example (illustrative)
These are invented candidates, checked against the college’s advert.
Obinna wants CRS/Igbo. His NECO result in two sittings: English C5, Mathematics C6, Igbo B2, CRS B3, Government C4, Agricultural Science C5.
- Credits: six across two sittings. The advert allows two. Pass.
- English and Mathematics: both credits. Pass.
- Two relevant subjects: Igbo and CRS. Pass.
- My verdict: eligible, with strong grades in both teaching subjects. He should apply early and get his results on CAPS.
Nkechi wants English/Igbo. She has English B3, Mathematics C5, Literature in English C4 and Economics C6, but D7 in Igbo. She meets the four-credit count, and English and Literature are relevant to English. Without an Igbo credit, I would advise her to switch to English Education or English/Social Studies, or resit Igbo.
Your chances and my advice
- Expect a local, well-qualified pool: many Eha-Amufu applicants have Igbo credits, so a C6 in Igbo is less of an advantage here.
- Use the second subject: CRS/Igbo and English/Igbo let you teach two subjects that South East schools timetable widely.
- Fix Mathematics: the advert names it for all courses, including languages.
- Get on CAPS early: JAMB processes NCE credentials there.
- Deadline: colleges of education had until 31 December 2026 for 2026/2027 admissions.
How to apply for Igbo Education at FCE Eha-Amufu
JAMB registration for NCE: JAMB’s June 2026 guide for NCE candidates sets the costs: ₦1,500 for a one-sitting O’level verification code (₦2,000 for two sittings), ₦3,500 for the NCE application and ₦700 at the accredited centre. Choose FCE Eha-Amufu as your institution, make sure your O’level result is on CAPS, and wait for the Provost to recommend you on CAPS. Registering for NCE suspends any UTME or Direct Entry application you have open, so decide on one route before you pay.
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with a profile code you take to a registration centre.
- Register with JAMB for NCE: under the 2026 policy you do not need a UTME score if you have four or more credits, but you must still be on JAMB’s system. Pick Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu as your institution and the Igbo combination you want as your course. If you registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before the college screens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded to your JAMB profile. JAMB says NCE credentials are screened and processed through CAPS, so a missing O’level upload can stall your offer.
- Apply on the college portal: create a profile, generate the screening invoice, pay, upload a passport photograph and fill in your O’level, birth certificate and JAMB details, then print the acknowledgement slip. The college’s 2021 advert put the form at ₦2,000 through a portal invoice paid at a bank; the 2026/2027 fee and dates were not published in any source I reached.
- Write the college’s selection test if one is fixed: the college’s adverts say candidates must pass its selection process. Check the portal for the date and bring your printed slip and original results.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. For 2026/2027, JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer, after which it can be withdrawn. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: print your admission letter and pay acceptance and school charges through the college portal. A blog puts the acceptance fee at ₦5,000 through Remita, but that figure looks old and the college has not published one I could check, so confirm it on the portal first.
Warning
JAMB says admissions done outside CAPS are illegal, and that includes NCE. Nobody can sell you an FCE Eha-Amufu NCE “slot”. Pay only through an invoice generated on the college portal, and confirm that your course is still running before you pay any fee.
Studying Igbo Education (NCE) at Eha-Amufu
The college was founded in 1981 and became federal in 1993. The regular NCE runs for three years, and the college has advertised a sandwich mode over five long vacations, which suits teachers already in post.
What you study
- Igbo language: grammar, phonology, the standard Igbo orthography and composition.
- Literature and culture: Igbo oral literature, prose, poetry and drama, plus Igbo culture and customs.
- Teaching Igbo: methods for teaching Igbo in primary and junior secondary schools.
- Your second subject: English, CRS, Social Studies, Music, French, Hausa or Yoruba.
- Education and general studies: the courses every NCE student takes, then supervised teaching practice.
This is the usual NCCE pattern for Igbo. The college’s own course outline is not online.
Accreditation
The college is open on the NCCE accredited colleges list. In 2016 Myschool reported that NCCE accredited 17 of its 20 programmes, with three on interim status, but it did not name them. The current status of each Igbo pairing is not confirmed.
Is it still a college of education?
Yes. The NCCE list of accredited colleges (checked 29 October 2026) still lists Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu as a federal college of education with the status “open”. A House of Representatives bill to upgrade it to a Federal University of Education passed second reading, but I found no record of a third reading, Senate passage or presidential assent. Until that happens, the college admits NCE students under NCCE rules, and its B.Ed degrees run in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
If you see a social media advert using the name “Federal University of Education, Eha-Amufu”, treat it with care and check it against the college’s own channels before paying anything.
Careers and next steps
- Teaching: Igbo and your second subject in primary and secondary schools. Teachers register with TRCN.
- Degree: NCE is widely used for JAMB Direct Entry into B.A. (Ed) Igbo or linguistics degrees.
- Other work: Igbo broadcasting, translation, cultural centres and publishing.

Mistakes that cost Igbo applicants a place
- Relying on speaking Igbo: the college counts O’level credits, so fluency without an Igbo credit does not show on paper.
- No Mathematics credit: required by the advert.
- Skipping JAMB registration: the exam is waived for four-credit candidates, JAMB registration is not.
- Mismatched names: your documents and JAMB profile must agree.
- Ignoring the CAPS offer: four weeks to accept in 2026/2027.
If you chose another school on JAMB, a JAMB change of institution moves your choice to Eha-Amufu.
FCE Eha-Amufu Igbo Education: frequently asked questions
Can I study Igbo NCE at FCE Eha-Amufu without a credit in Igbo? The college’s advert does not name Igbo, but it asks for two credits relevant to your course. Without an Igbo credit your application is weak, so I would resit Igbo or choose another pairing.
What is the cut-off mark for Igbo in FCE Eha-Amufu? For 2026/2027 there is no UTME cut-off for candidates with four or more credits. The college used 100 when the UTME applied to NCE.
Which Igbo combinations does FCE Eha-Amufu offer? Course lists show English/Igbo, CRS/Igbo, French/Igbo, Hausa/Igbo, Igbo/Music, Igbo/Social Studies and Igbo/Yoruba. Confirm which are running this session.
Is NCE Igbo enough to teach in secondary school? NCE is the minimum teaching qualification in Nigeria and is commonly used for junior secondary teaching. Many senior secondary posts prefer a degree, which you can reach through Direct Entry.
