The Oklahoma State Spears MBA is a full-time, on-campus MBA taught in Stillwater, Oklahoma, by the Watson Graduate School of Management inside the Spears School of Business. U.S. News ranks it No. 60 in its 2026 Best Business Schools list, and it is the highest-ranked MBA in Oklahoma. For international students, the draw is price: the full two-year programme costs $47,831.20 in 2026-27 tuition and fees for a nonresident, which is well below most ranked U.S. MBAs.
Your Deadline as an applicant living outside the United States is 1 March 2027 for the August 2027 intake. The GMAT and GRE are optional if you have three years of professional work, and the English bar is moderate (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79). This guide covers the Oklahoma State MBA requirements, acceptance rate, tuition, scholarships and assistantships, salaries and the mistakes international applicants make.

Oklahoma State MBA ranking
U.S. News placed the Spears full-time MBA at No. 60 in its 2026 edition, released on 7 April 2026. The list covers more than 120 full-time programmes, and Spears shares the No. 60 spot with TCU Neeley and Fordham Gabelli. OSU’s news office reports that this is the second year running that an Oklahoma school has made the top 60, and that Spears is the top MBA in the state.
The same edition ranked several Spears MBA certificates for the first time: entrepreneurship at No. 38, information systems at No. 58, business analytics at No. 73 and finance at No. 89. The part-time MBA, a hybrid programme based in Tulsa, is No. 85. Poets&Quants, which builds its own ranking from several lists, put Spears at No. 69 for 2025-2026, up from No. 85 the year before.
I would read the rank as a sign that the programme is solid and improving. It will not open doors at global consulting firms the way a top 20 school does, so judge Spears on cost, class size and the regional job market.
Oklahoma State MBA acceptance rate and class profile
Spears does not post a class profile on its own pages. The figures below come from Poets&Quants, which collects data from schools each year. The acceptance rate is from its August 2026 analysis of the top 100 U.S. programmes; the profile figures are from its Spears school profile, which does not say which class year they describe.
| Measure | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance rate, 2025 intake | 31.5% | Poets&Quants, Aug 2026 |
| Acceptance rate, 2024 intake | 25.0% | Poets&Quants, Aug 2026 |
| Yield, 2025 intake | 55.71% | Poets&Quants, Aug 2026 |
| Full-time enrolment | 58 | Poets&Quants profile |
| Median GMAT | 525 | Poets&Quants profile |
| Median GRE | 305 | Poets&Quants profile |
| Average GPA | 3.65 | Poets&Quants profile |
| International students | 12.1% | Poets&Quants profile |
| Women | 49% | Poets&Quants profile |
The P&Q profile page also shows an older acceptance figure of 54%, which does not match the August 2026 table. I use the dated table figure. Average work experience is not published. A median GMAT of 525 looks low next to older GMAT scores because the GMAT Focus Edition uses a different scale, so compare it only with other Focus scores.
Oklahoma State MBA requirements for international students
You apply through the OSU Graduate College application. These are the items Spears lists for the full-time MBA:
- A completed Graduate College application and the $75 international application fee.
- Unofficial transcripts for the admission decision; official transcripts are due during your first semester.
- A resume, which the committee uses to confirm your work experience.
- A personal statement. Spears does not publish a prompt or word limit.
- Two professional references. Spears warns that reference emails often reach referees late, so send the requests early.
- Proof of English if English is your second language.
- One of these: three years of professional work or military experience, a master’s or doctoral or professional degree, or a GMAT or GRE score.
Should you take the GMAT or GRE?
If you have three or more years of full-time professional work, Spears does not require a test. A score is required for students coming through 4+1 agreements. Spears also asks applicants without quantitative education or experience to complete the GMAC/Kaplan Business Fundamentals course at their own cost ($199) before they register for the accounting (ACCT 5183) and information systems (MSIS 5303) courses, and it encourages everyone returning to study to take it.
I would still send a good score if you have one. Scholarship and assistantship decisions are competitive, and a test score is the quickest way for a committee in Oklahoma to judge a degree from a university it does not know. Applicants with fewer than three years of work have no choice: you need the score or a graduate degree.
English requirements
The OSU Graduate College sets these minimums, and scores must be no older than two years:
| Test | Minimum |
|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT | 79 (4.0 on the new scale from 21 January 2026) |
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 |
| Duolingo English Test | 115 |
| PTE Academic | 53 |
The Graduate College waives the test if you completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree at an accredited institution where English was the main language of instruction, in a country on its official list. OSU’s list of recognised English-speaking countries includes Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia, among others. South Africa and Cameroon are not on it. That list sits on the university’s general international admissions site, so email the Graduate College to confirm the waiver for your degree before you skip the test.
Applicants with TOEFL iBT 61 to 78, IELTS 6.0 or Duolingo 95 can be considered for conditional admission only if the programme petitions for them, and they must then complete at least 12 weeks of approved intensive English.
Oklahoma State MBA deadlines 2026-2027
Spears sets separate dates for applicants who live outside the United States. All materials and test scores must reach OSU by the deadline, and incomplete files after the final date roll over to a later term.
| Applicant group | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Living outside the U.S. | Fall 2027 (August start) | 1 March 2027 |
| Living outside the U.S. | Spring 2028 (January start) | 1 August 2027 |
| U.S. citizens and residents | Spring 2027 | 1 November 2026 |
| U.S. citizens and residents | Fall 2027 priority (scholarships and assistantships) | 15 April 2027 |
| U.S. citizens and residents | Fall 2027 final | 1 June 2027 |
Spears prints these dates without a year, so the years above follow its fall and spring cycle (based on this year’s date; confirm on the official page when the call opens). One part of the Spears page also lists the 1 August and 1 March dates as general spring and fall deadlines, so if you are already in the U.S., confirm which dates apply to you.
Visa timing
The 1 March 2027 date is the last day for a complete file. You still need an I-20 and an F-1 visa interview after admission. Check the current interview wait time for your U.S. embassy (for example Lagos, Accra or Nairobi) on the State Department website and apply well before March if the wait is long.
How to apply, step by step
- Check the route: decide whether you qualify through work experience, a graduate degree or a test score, and book the GMAT or GRE early if you need it.
- Book English: take IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo or PTE unless you are sure the degree waiver covers you.
- Gather documents: transcripts (with certified English translations if needed), resume, passport and the names and emails of two professional referees.
- Write the personal statement: draft it early and have someone who knows your work read it.
- Submit the Graduate College application: pay the $75 fee and enter your referees so OSU can email them.
- Follow up: check that every item shows as received before 1 March 2027.
- After admission: email spearsmasters@okstate.edu with your intent to enrol and arrival date, activate your O-Key account, apply for scholarships and housing, and book an advisor meeting.
How to write the Oklahoma State MBA personal statement
Spears asks for a personal statement but does not publish a prompt or word limit. Check the Graduate College application form when you open it. If no limit is given, aim for about 500 to 750 words, which is enough to make a case without padding. I would build it in four parts:
- Where you are now: your current role, with one result you can measure.
- Why an MBA now: the gap between what you do and what you want to do.
- Why Spears: something specific, such as a certificate you plan to stack (entrepreneurship, business analytics, information systems or finance), the case competitions full-time students enter, or the small class size.
- What you will do after: a realistic first job and a longer goal, plus how you will fund the degree.
Sample opening, for illustration: “Last year I rebuilt the stock reorder sheet for our 14 pharmacy branches in Ibadan and cut stockouts by a third. The work showed me how much I still do not know about finance and analytics, and that is why I am applying to the Spears MBA with the business analytics certificate.”
Notice what the opening does. It names a job, a number and a link to the programme in two sentences. Avoid starting with a quotation or a childhood story.
Interview
Spears does not describe a formal interview on its admission pages. It does say that your interactions with staff, faculty and MBA Advisory Board members count towards your fit for the programme. Treat every email and call with the admissions office as part of the assessment, and join an online information session if one is offered.
What the admissions committee looks for
- Proof of work experience on the resume, since three years can replace a test score.
- Ability to handle quantitative courses, shown by grades, a test score or the Business Fundamentals course.
- A clear goal that a small, regional programme can serve.
- Good references from people who supervised you.
- Fit with the cohort, judged partly through how you deal with staff and faculty.
Oklahoma State MBA tuition and cost of attendance
The Spears tuition page gives 2026-2027 figures that include the $250 professional programme fee for each fall and spring term on campus. Nonresident rates apply to international students.
| Option | Nonresident total (2026-27) | Resident total (2026-27) |
|---|---|---|
| 38 credit hours, two years, full time | $47,831.20 | $22,120.40 |
| 36 credit hours, 18 months, full time | $45,116.40 | $20,758.80 |
| Per credit hour (tuition and fees) | $1,232.40 | $555.80 |
Costs not covered in those totals
- F-1 international student fee of $150 per semester.
- A one-time $20 health risk assessment fee for new Stillwater students.
- The $199 Business Fundamentals course if you are asked to take it.
- Housing, food, transport and health insurance. The Spears pages point to an OSU estimated cost tool and do not print a living-cost figure, so budget from that tool.
- Visa costs, the SEVIS fee, flights and the funds you must prove for the I-20.
- The $100 late enrolment fee if you register late.
Oklahoma State MBA scholarships and assistantships for international students
Spears says that fall priority applicants are considered for full-time admission, scholarships and assistantship awards together, and its tuition page says graduate assistantships are available to on-campus students. It does not publish award amounts, stipends or named MBA fellowships for international students, and the OSU programme page notes that assistantship availability varies by department.
What this means for you: apply by the international date, ask the admissions office directly about assistantships when you are admitted, and use the scholarship application link OSU sends after admission. Spears does not list Prodigy, MPOWER or other no-cosigner lenders on the pages I checked. If you need outside funding, start on that early; our guide to recommendation letters for scholarships can help with external awards.
STEM designation and OPT
Spears does not describe the full-time MBA as STEM designated on any page I checked, and OSU’s programme page does not mention it. Without that designation you get the standard 12 months of post-study OPT, not the 24-month STEM extension. Ask the Watson Graduate School of Management in writing whether any certificate track changes this before you count on extra work time.
Oklahoma State MBA salary and employment
Spears has not released a recent full-time MBA employment report. The Poets&Quants profile reports that 98% of the most recent class was employed within three months, without giving the class year, and the same page notes that the school had not released a recent report. OSU’s own programme page still quotes 2017 data: 98.4% of MBA graduates surveyed had jobs, offers or other plans within three months. No median salary or employer list is published.
Spears does not publish where its graduates work or which firms hire them. If your goal is a U.S. job after graduation, ask the career office how many recent international graduates found sponsored roles before you commit.
Common mistakes international applicants make
- Using the domestic deadlines (15 April or 1 June) instead of 1 March.
- Assuming the GMAT is always optional. It is only optional if you meet the work or graduate degree route.
- Skipping the English test because their degree was taught in English, without confirming the waiver with the Graduate College.
- Sending a generic statement that never mentions Spears, its certificates or Stillwater.
- Entering referees at the last minute, so their responses arrive after the deadline.
- Planning finances around an assistantship that has not been offered in writing.
Who should apply to Oklahoma State, and who shouldn’t
Apply if you want a ranked, AACSB-accredited U.S. MBA at a low total price, you have about three years of work, and you would be happy working in Oklahoma or the wider region. The certificates suit people who want an analytics, information systems, entrepreneurship or finance focus without paying for a specialised master’s.
Look elsewhere if you need the 24-month STEM OPT extension, want a large international cohort (about one student in eight is international), or are aiming at elite consulting or investment banking, where recruiters focus on higher-ranked schools.
Oklahoma State vs peer MBA programmes
| School | U.S. News 2026 | Location | Acceptance rate (2025 intake, P&Q) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oklahoma State Spears | No. 60 | Stillwater, Oklahoma | 31.5% |
| TCU Neeley | No. 60 | Fort Worth, Texas | 27.4% |
| Kansas | No. 51 | Lawrence, Kansas | 65.4% |
| Arkansas Walton | No. 48 | Fayetteville, Arkansas | 29.3% |
| Alabama Manderson | No. 53 | Tuscaloosa, Alabama | 63.2% |
Spears is far cheaper than TCU Neeley at list price, although Neeley gives full-tuition scholarships to more than half of its full-time students. Arkansas Walton is the closest regional rival for funding because it offers assistantships to all admitted full-time students.
