UNIUYO Public Relations Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO’s cut-off mark for Public Relations is 150 (first choice only). It is a new degree not yet on JAMB’s UNIUYO list, so confirm the name on CAPS. My safe target is 200.

The UNIUYO Public Relations cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Public Relations, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Public Relations at UNIUYO is 200.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Public Relations is one of the seven degrees in UNIUYO’s new Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, carved out of the old Mass Communication programme. It trains people to manage how organisations speak to the public, which is a different job from reporting the news. Here you will find the official figures, my safe target, a subject combination that fits the JAMB lines UNIUYO currently has, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

Check the course name on CAPS

Public Relations is one of seven programmes in UNIUYO’s new Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. JAMB’s UNIUYO course list, as reprinted by Myschool, still shows only Mass Communication and Communication Arts. Before you register or pay for screening, confirm on the JAMB e-brochure or your CAPS course list that Public Relations appears for UNIUYO under that name, and ask UNIUYO’s admissions office in writing if it does not.

UNIUYO Public Relations cut-off history

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027150Minimum UTME to apply for screening; UNIUYO first choice; same for all coursesOfficial UNIUYO notice
2025/2026150Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choiceReported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen
2023/2024 supplementary140Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Mass Communication was not on the listOfficial UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023)

UNIUYO’s screening minimum has been 150 for two sessions. Public Relations itself has no history yet, because the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies is new and the programme first appears in UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert. The nearest record is for the course it grew out of: Mass Communication was not on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, and neither was Communication Arts. Mass Communication filled in the main round, which fits what most Nigerian universities see for media courses.

Safe target score for Public Relations at UNIUYO (my advice)

UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Public Relations, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Public Relations
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening
150 to 179Eligible, but a place in Public Relations is unlikely
180 to 199Possible, though many applicants will be ahead of you
200 to 219Competitive. This is the range I would aim for
220 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 200 or more. Public Relations was one of the most popular options inside Mass Communication at Nigerian universities, and the course it came from filled in UNIUYO’s main round in 2023/2024. With credits in English, Literature and Mathematics, 200 is a comfortable plan.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Public Relations

RequirementPublic Relations at UNIUYO

Mass Communication (on UNIUYO’s list)UTME: any three Arts or Social Science subjects. O’level: five credits, English plus four Arts or Social Science subjects. No UNIUYO remark
Communication Arts (on UNIUYO’s list)UNIUYO remark: Music, Literature in English or Fine Arts, plus any two Arts or Social Science subjects. O’level: English and Literature in English; UNIUYO accepts a D7 in Mathematics
My advice for the UTMEUse of English, Literature in English, plus two of Government, CRS/IRS, Economics, History or another Arts or Social Science subject
My advice for O’levelCredits in English, Literature in English and Mathematics, plus two Arts or Social Science subjects, in no more than two sittings
Direct EntryBoth entries: two A-level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects

JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook for subject combinations, and Myschool reprints it. Because the seven new UNIUYO communication degrees are not yet on JAMB’s UNIUYO list, there is no UNIUYO line for Public Relations to quote. What I can show you are the two lines JAMB does carry for UNIUYO, both read on 3 November 2026.

If you take Literature in English and two other Arts or Social Science subjects, you satisfy the Mass Communication line and UNIUYO’s Communication Arts remark at the same time. That keeps you safe whichever entry JAMB attaches to the new programme. Mathematics is not a UTME subject here, but I would still hold an O’level credit in it; UNIUYO’s Communication Arts remark accepts a D7, and other new lines may not be so relaxed.

Direct Entry into Public Relations

Both JAMB entries ask for two A-level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects, and neither has a UNIUYO remark on ND, HND or NCE. UNIUYO has not published DE rules for Public Relations. If you hold an ND in Mass Communication, ask the admissions office in writing whether it will be considered and at what level.

The 2026/2027 screening notice covered DE candidates who chose UNIUYO first on JAMB DE, through the same portal.

How UNIUYO screening works for Public Relations applicants

Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.

Admission deadlineJAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passedJAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026

Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.

Worked example for a Public Relations candidate

UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.

  1. Candidate: Ima scored 203 with B3 in English, C4 in Literature in English, B3 in Mathematics, C5 in Economics and B3 in Government from one sitting.
  2. Eligibility: 203 minus 150 = 53. Ima clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 53 marks and can apply.
  3. Against my safe target: 203 minus 200 = 3. Ima is 3 marks above the score I would call competitive.
  4. O’level check: credits in English, Literature and Mathematics plus two Social Science subjects, which fits both JAMB lines.
  5. My advice: she has reached my target. She should confirm the CAPS course name and keep watching for an offer.

Bassey scored 176. 176 minus 150 = 26, so he can apply, but he is 24 marks below my target. Strategic and Corporate Communication or Development Communication might suit him better as a fallback.

Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Public Relations

Public Relations at UNIUYO is new, but the demand behind it is not. I expect it to sit just below Journalism in popularity among the seven communication degrees.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is the professional body for the field, and graduates usually join it after their degree. Under NUC’s rules, professional bodies outside a short list do not accredit university degrees on their own, so a UNIUYO offer does not depend on an NIPR stamp.

Strategic and Corporate Communication overlaps with Public Relations. If you score in the 180s, it is worth considering.

There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.

How to apply for Public Relations at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose the exact course name JAMB lists for Public Relations at UNIUYO with Literature in English plus two other Arts or Social Science subjects, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
  4. Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
  5. Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Studying Public Relations at UNIUYO

Public Relations is listed under UNIUYO’s Faculty of Communication and Media Studies in the May 2026 Basic Studies advert. UNIUYO has not published the degree title, department structure or campus for the new faculty in any source I reached. Communication degrees in Nigeria normally take four years for UTME entrants.

Accreditation

Public Relations is a new programme. NUC split the old Mass Communication degree into seven programmes and said in January 2020 that Mass Communication had been unbundled, not scrapped (ICIR). I opened more than thirty NUC accreditation reports for UNIUYO and none was for Mass Communication or any of the seven new programmes, so I cannot confirm an accreditation status. New programmes usually run for a few years before their first accreditation visit; ask the department about NUC approval before you accept.

What you study

  • Early years: communication theory, writing for the media, introduction to public relations and general studies.
  • Middle years: media relations, corporate communication, crisis communication, public opinion research, PR writing.
  • Later years: reputation management, campaign planning, digital and social media PR, communication ethics and law, project.
  • Practical work: campaign projects and an attachment with a PR agency or corporate communication unit.

Careers

  • PR officer in companies, banks and oil and gas firms
  • Media relations and press roles in government
  • PR and communication agencies
  • Social media and community management
  • Membership of NIPR after graduation

If you need to switch your registered course to Public Relations, read our JAMB change of course guide.

Mistakes that cost Public Relations applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Choosing a course name UNIUYO does not have on JAMB: check CAPS first.
  • Ignoring Mathematics at O’level: it is not a UTME subject here, but a credit avoids trouble at clearance.
  • Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
  • Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.

If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.

UNIUYO Public Relations cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 190 enough for Public Relations in UNIUYO? 190 clears the minimum by 40 marks, but my safe target is 200. It is a fair chance with clean O’level credits.

Is Public Relations on JAMB’s list for UNIUYO? Not under that name on Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s UNIUYO list (3 November 2026), which shows Mass Communication and Communication Arts. Confirm on CAPS or ask UNIUYO in writing.

What subjects are needed for Public Relations at UNIUYO? Use of English and three Arts or Social Science subjects. I recommend including Literature in English so you meet both lines JAMB carries for UNIUYO.

Do I need NIPR approval to study Public Relations at UNIUYO? No. Your admission depends on JAMB and UNIUYO. NIPR membership comes after graduation.
