The UNIUYO Botany and Ecological Studies cut off mark for 2027 planning starts at 150 in the UTME. That is the only minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applied to every course, Botany and Ecological Studies included, for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. UNIUYO did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Botany and Ecological Studies.
2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Botany and Ecological Studies is UNIUYO’s plant science degree, in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. It is one of the easier science courses to enter at UNIUYO, and it can lead to good work in agriculture, environment and research. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subjects, the screening steps and what you study.

UNIUYO Botany and Ecological Studies cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score to register for Post-UTME screening, UNIUYO as 1st choice | Official UNIUYO notice |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for screening, 1st choice | Reported (abstechconnect reprint, 15 Aug 2025); original not seen |
| 2025/2026 supplementary | 150 and above | For screening registrants not admitted into their first-choice course | Reported (Myschool, 18 Oct 2025) |
| 2023/2024 supplementary | 140 and above | For screening registrants not admitted into their first-choice course | Official UNIUYO notice signed by the Registrar |
Botany and Ecological Studies was one of the courses with vacancies in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission (listed as “Botany and Ecological Studies”), which invited screening candidates with 140 and above who had missed their first-choice course. That tells you the course did not fill completely from first-choice applicants that year. That makes it a realistic choice for candidates in the 160s and 170s.
Some blogs print a list of UNIUYO departmental cut-offs with a number for each course. None of those lists points to a UNIUYO document, so I don’t use them here and I wouldn’t plan around them.
Why 150 is not the score that gets you admitted
UNIUYO does not publish a closing score for Botany. Plant science draws fewer first-choice applicants than Microbiology or Biochemistry at most Nigerian universities, and UNIUYO had Botany vacancies in its 2023/2024 supplementary round. That does not make 150 safe, because candidates moved from health courses often land here with high scores.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed, and UNIUYO is a federal university. Late or supplementary offers can still show up on JAMB CAPS after a main list, so 2026 candidates should keep checking CAPS. For everyone else, the planning is for the 2027 UTME and the 2027/2028 session.
Safe target score for Botany and Ecological Studies at UNIUYO (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, built on the 150 minimum, how Botany and Ecological Studies usually compares with other UNIUYO courses, and what supplementary notices have shown. It is not a UNIUYO rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for UNIUYO Botany and Ecological Studies |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible. UNIUYO only screened candidates with 150 or more. |
| 150 to 179 | Eligible and possible, depending on O’level grades and how many candidates apply that year. |
| 180 to 199 | Competitive. This is my safe target score. |
| 200 and above | Strong. You should be in a good position if your O’level and subjects are right. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180, with credits in all five O’level sciences. If you choose Botany as a first preference with 180 or more, you should be in a good position.
UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Botany and Ecological Studies
| Requirement | Botany and Ecological Studies at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and any other science subject (JAMB brochure, general rule) |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics |
| UNIUYO remark | None on the brochure page |
| JAMB course name | The brochure page is titled “Botany”; check the UNIUYO course name on your JAMB form |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes in Biology, Botany or Zoology and Chemistry or Physics |
With no UNIUYO-specific remark, the general rule applies. Physics or Mathematics is the usual fourth UTME subject. Physics keeps more options open inside the faculty.
O’level Physics is listed as a credit subject. If you have only a pass in Physics, ask the department in writing before choosing the course.
Direct Entry into Botany and Ecological Studies
Direct Entry needs two A level passes in Biology, Botany or Zoology and one of Chemistry or Physics. The 1st-choice rule in UNIUYO’s notice also applied to DE candidates.
How UNIUYO screening works
UNIUYO runs one Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening exercise for all courses. Here is what the 2026/2027 exercise looked like.
| Detail | UNIUYO 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose UNIUYO as 1st choice in the 2026 UTME and scored at least 150, and DE candidates who chose UNIUYO 1st |
| Portal | admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through a Remita RRR (amount from reprints; the official page shows only the Remita method) |
| Documents | Uploaded as PDF on the portal |
| End result | A printed 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip |
| Test format | Not published in the notice, which says only “screening exercise” |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Closing date | Friday 7 August 2026 according to abstechconnect; not on the official page |
Because UNIUYO has not said whether the regular screening includes a written test, prepare as if there is one. Revise your four UTME subjects and keep your O’level result, UTME result slip and any other document the portal asks for ready as clear PDFs. The guidelines page on eportals.uniuyo.edu.ng is the place to check once the 2027/2028 form opens.
Worked example for a Botany and Ecological Studies candidate
UNIUYO has no published aggregate formula, so the useful calculation is the gap between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target. The figures below are illustrations, not UNIUYO results.
Take Nsikak, who scored 183 with B3 in English, C5 in Mathematics, B2 in Biology, C4 in Chemistry and C6 in Physics.
- Eligibility: 183 minus 150 = 33. Nsikak clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 33 marks.
- Against my safe target: 183 minus 180 = 3. Nsikak is 3 marks above the score I treat as competitive.
- O’level check: credits in all five required subjects.
- What I would advise: choose Botany as a first preference and register for screening early.
Imaobong scored 154. 154 minus 150 = 4, so she can register for screening. She is 26 marks below my target. A supplementary round is her most likely route if she misses the main list.
How to apply for Botany and Ecological Studies at UNIUYO, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Botany and Ecological Studies with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and make UNIUYO your first choice.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. UNIUYO cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Create your screening account: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng when the Post-UTME notice is out, create an account and verify your email.
- Pay the fee: generate a Remita RRR on the portal and pay (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, per reprints).
- Complete the form and print your slip: fill the application form, upload your documents in PDF and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
- Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in the official pages I reached, so confirm the amount on the UNIUYO portal before you pay anything.
Warning
UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 screening notice was open only to candidates who chose UNIUYO as first choice. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens, or you may not be able to register at all. Pay only through the Remita RRR generated on the UNIUYO portal.
If you need to fix your choice of school or course, read our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course.
Other ways into Botany and Ecological Studies at UNIUYO
UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, describes two one-year programmes that feed into degree courses.
- Basic Studies: open to all faculties. You need five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and no JAMB score is required. Successful students can move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course rules. The form cost ₦15,500 (the advert prints it as “N15,5000”).
- Pre-Degree: for science, agriculture and education programmes only. It needs five credits including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and uses a CBT. The form cost ₦10,500. The advert’s wording on whether a UTME score is needed contradicts itself, so ask the admissions office before you rely on this route.
For 2026/2027, registration for both closed on 30 September 2026 and the screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026. Expect similar timing in 2027, but wait for the new advert.
Studying Botany and Ecological Studies at UNIUYO
Botany and Ecological Studies is in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. A biological science B.Sc. normally takes four years in Nigeria, with industrial training; UNIUYO’s duration was not confirmed in the pages I reached.
Accreditation
I could not find an NUC accreditation report for UNIUYO Botany or Botany and Ecological Studies, so the status is not confirmed here. Two neighbours in the faculty, Microbiology and Zoology, had full accreditation after December 2024 visits. Ask the department for its own result.
What you study
- Plant diversity, taxonomy and herbarium methods
- Plant anatomy and physiology
- Ecology of forests, wetlands and mangroves
- Mycology and plant pathology
- Economic botany and ethnobotany
- Biostatistics, field work and a research project
Careers after Botany and Ecological Studies
Botanists work in agricultural research and seed companies, forestry and conservation, environmental consultancy and impact assessment, herbal and pharmaceutical raw material quality control, and teaching. Postgraduate study in plant biotechnology, ecology or environmental management widens the options.

Mistakes that cost Botany and Ecological Studies applicants a UNIUYO place
- Skipping Chemistry in the UTME: Biology and Chemistry are both fixed subjects.
- Treating Botany as a waiting room for Medicine: internal transfers into health courses are not guaranteed, so choose Botany only if you would be happy to finish it.
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
- Making UNIUYO your second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened 1st-choice candidates only.
- No O’level on CAPS: an offer cannot be completed without it.
- Ignoring the supplementary exercise: UNIUYO has run one in past sessions for candidates who missed their first-choice course.
If you are writing the UTME again, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result and use the score.
UNIUYO Botany and Ecological Studies cut off mark: frequently asked questions
