The MOUAU cut off mark for Business Education is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. MOUAU set that one minimum for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice and did not publish a separate figure for Business Education.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
A score of 150 lets you register for screening; it does not guarantee a place. This page covers the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination, the O’level list, how MOUAU screens candidates, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

MOUAU Business Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for all MOUAU courses, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU notice (Myschool reprint, 20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs say 150; the earlier Myschool page now redirects to the 2026 article | Unverified |
| Departmental figure for Business Education | None | Blog “departmental cut-off” lists cite no MOUAU document | Unofficial |
Candidates who miss Accounting or Business Administration in MOUAU’s College of Management Sciences sometimes change to Business Education, so do not assume it is an easy course to enter. MOUAU published only the university-wide 150. Any blog table with a separate “departmental” number for this course does not cite a MOUAU document.
Safe target score for Business Education at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not publish the score of the last candidate admitted into each course, so the table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, and MOUAU set no such bands. It assumes your O’level subjects are complete.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Business Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible to register for screening, but admission is uncertain |
| 170 to 189 | Reasonable chance with good O’level grades from one sitting |
| 190 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, ideally 190, with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics plus two of Commerce, Financial Accounting, Government or another social science, ideally from one sitting.
Catchment and merit
MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states for 2026/2027, so do not count on catchment to rescue a low score. A strong UTME result and clean O’level grades from one sitting are the parts you control.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Business Education
| Requirement | Business Education at MOUAU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB general entry) | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one of Literature in English, History, Government, Geography, Chemistry or Physics |
| MOUAU UTME remark | None shown on Myschool’s reprint of the entry |
| O’level (JAMB general entry) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other social science or arts subjects |
| Commerce instead of Economics | Some universities accept it at O’level; MOUAU has not said so, so keep an Economics credit |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | Not more than two is the usual rule; MOUAU weights the number of sittings in screening |
| Special requirements | None published beyond screening |
Many candidates assume Commerce or Principles of Accounts is compulsory in the UTME for Business Education. JAMB’s general entry does not say that: the fixed subjects are Mathematics and Economics, and the third can be Literature, History, Government, Geography, Chemistry or Physics. Commerce does appear in the remarks for some universities, such as UNN and EBSU, but no MOUAU remark appears on Myschool’s reprint of the entry. My advice is to register Mathematics, Economics and Government, which fits the general entry and almost every university remark I saw.
At O’level, Economics is the credit that matters most after English and Mathematics. Commerce and Financial Accounting are useful as your other two subjects, and they help in your first-year accounting and office technology courses. Confirm the combination on your own JAMB e-brochure before you register, because the e-brochure is what JAMB checks.
Direct Entry
JAMB’s general entry accepts two A-level passes, NCE merit passes in two relevant subjects, or an NCE merit in Business Education double major. Several universities also accept ND or HND holders with a good grade. No MOUAU-specific Direct Entry remark appears on the reprint and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no separate Direct Entry rules, so ask the College of Education before you buy a Direct Entry form.
MOUAU’s College of Education is not a college of education
You may have read that from 2026/2027 JAMB stopped 100 level and 200 level degree admissions into colleges of education, and that NCE candidates no longer sit the UTME. That rule is about standalone colleges of education and the degrees they run with partner universities. MOUAU’s College of Education (COED) is one of the eleven colleges inside a federal university, and its courses were covered by the same 150 UTME notice as every other MOUAU course. You still need the UTME for Business Education at MOUAU.
How MOUAU screening works for Business Education
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint of the notice.
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2026 UTME with MOUAU as first choice; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment problems: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at a bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded so they reach JAMB CAPS |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| How candidates are ranked | UTME score, with O’level grades and the number of sittings both weighted |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the reprint |
Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. After you register, check the portal regularly: MOUAU told candidates to watch it for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for a Business Education candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how the pieces interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). The method is my illustration; MOUAU has not published it.
- Kelechi scored 192 with B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, A1 in Economics, B3 in Commerce, B2 in Government from one sitting. UTME points: 192 ÷ 8 = 24.00. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 10 + 8 + 9 = 44. Illustrative total: 68.00.
- Adaeze scored 178 with C4 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Economics, C4 in Commerce, C5 in Financial Accounting over two sittings. UTME points: 178 ÷ 8 = 22.25. O’level points: 7 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 6 = 31. Illustrative total: 53.25.
- The gap: 68.00 minus 53.25 = 14.75 points. Adaeze’s 178 is a respectable score, but her O’level grades and the second sitting put her more than ten points behind Kelechi.
At MOUAU, where grades and sittings are both weighted, a clean single sitting can decide the ranking.
How to apply for Business Education at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Business Education at MOUAU with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one of Government, Geography, History, Literature, Chemistry or Physics, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens; if you picked the wrong course, see our JAMB change of course guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU counts your grades and sittings, so upload your best single sitting.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and the receipt.
- Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there. No test date was published for 2026/2027.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from your portal invoice and pay only through it.
Warning
Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone selling a MOUAU “slot” or a “special list” place is selling something that does not exist. Pay MOUAU only through the invoice the portal generates for you.
For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied this year, look at CAPS instead of waiting for a printed list.
Studying Business Education at MOUAU
MOUAU’s official department list includes a Department of Business Education in the College of Education (COED). The COED website places Business Education with its Educational Foundations group of programmes. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, established by federal decree in November 1992.
What you study
- Business subjects: principles of accounting, cost accounting, economics, commerce, marketing and business law.
- Office technology: keyboarding, office practice, records management and computer applications in business.
- Teaching methods: methods of teaching business subjects, curriculum development and measurement and evaluation.
- Entrepreneurship: small business management and enterprise development.
- Teaching practice: Nigerian education degrees include supervised teaching practice in secondary schools; MOUAU’s handbook gives the exact arrangement.
Degree title, duration and accreditation
The exact degree title MOUAU awards for Business Education (B.Sc (Ed) or B.Ed) was not confirmed in any official source I reached. Education degrees in Nigeria usually run for four years from 100 level, but MOUAU has not confirmed this for the course in what I found. No NUC accreditation status for the programme was published in the sources I checked, so I am not claiming one. Graduates who want to teach in public schools register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Careers
- Teacher of Business Studies, Commerce, Financial Accounting or Office Practice in secondary schools.
- Office administration and records roles in public and private organisations.
- Accounts and finance assistant roles, with professional exams (for example ICAN) as a route upward.
- Running your own business, using the entrepreneurship and accounting training.
- Postgraduate study in Business Education or educational administration.

Mistakes that cost Business Education applicants a MOUAU place
- Writing Commerce and Accounts but no Economics in the UTME: JAMB’s general entry fixes Mathematics and Economics.
- No O’level Economics credit: it is in the general requirement, and MOUAU has not published a Commerce waiver.
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it only gets you into screening.
- MOUAU not first choice: the notice requires it.
- Combining two weak sittings: MOUAU weights the number of sittings.
- Ignoring CAPS: your offer appears there first, and the four-week acceptance window is short.
MOUAU cut off mark for Business Education: frequently asked questions
Is 170 enough for Business Education in MOUAU? 170 clears MOUAU’s 150 minimum and sits at the bottom of the range I consider a reasonable chance. Good O’level grades from one sitting will matter a lot at that score.
Is Commerce compulsory in JAMB for Business Education? Not in JAMB’s general entry, which fixes Mathematics and Economics and lets you pick the third subject from Literature, History, Government, Geography, Chemistry or Physics. Some universities ask for Commerce, so check MOUAU’s line on your e-brochure.
Can I change from Accounting to Business Education at MOUAU? If your score falls short for Accounting, a change of course to Business Education is possible through JAMB before admissions close. Your UTME subjects must still fit the Business Education entry.
Is Business Education at MOUAU a four-year course? Education degrees in Nigeria usually take four years from 100 level. MOUAU has not confirmed the duration for this course in any source I reached, so confirm it in the student handbook.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the MOUAU first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the JAMB 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The JAMB rule on colleges of education comes from JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide. The college and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026) and the About page of MOUAU’s College of Education website. The UTME subjects, the general O’level list and the Direct Entry routes come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Business Education, which shows no MOUAU-specific remark. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration, and the course content and career lists describe how the subject is usually taught in Nigeria, not a MOUAU handbook. MOUAU’s fees, the degree title and the accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
