Akwa Ibom Poly Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

No departmental Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology figure is published at Akwa Ibom Poly, so the cut off mark is 100, the JAMB polytechnic minimum the school also used for 2026/2027. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The Akwa Ibom Poly Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME. The school, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic at Ikot Osurua, set “100 and above” in the 2026 UTME as its 2026/2027 ND cut-off. JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics is the same. For Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology alone there is no separate figure.

2027/2028 update: Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology appears in Akwa Ibom Poly’s 2026/2027 ND admission notice, but it is not on JAMB’s course list for the school, going by Myschool’s November 2026 reprint of that list. ND admission only happens through JAMB CAPS, so check the warning that follows before you pay for anything.

Check CAPS first

JAMB’s course list for Akwa Ibom Poly does not include Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology. So before you pay for a screening form, confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure and your CAPS page that the course can be selected for this school. The other route is to ask the admissions office, in writing, how it admits into Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology. If you cannot select it, choose Mechanical Engineering Technology, which JAMB does list for the school.

Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology has no published figure of its own in any year, so anyone quoting one is guessing. The school figure moved from the 120 that blogs reported for 2024/2025 down to “100 and above” in the 2026/2027 notice, in line with JAMB’s national minimum.

Safe target score for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly (my advice)

Treat this table as an adviser’s judgement for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology applicants. It is not a rule set by Akwa Ibom Poly, and the school publishes no merit lists with scores.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible with a fair chance
120 to 139Good chance; 120 is the score I would aim for
140 and aboveStrong

For Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology I would go into the 2027 UTME aiming for 120 or more, with clean credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and the rest of the O’level list below. Meeting the minimum gets you screened. When the department has more applicants than places, the extra margin is what protects you.

Catchment and state of origin

Akwa Ibom Poly belongs to the Akwa Ibom State Government. Many state polytechnics favour indigenes somehow; this one has not published a 2026/2027 catchment list or quota. Candidates from other states are admitted as well. For Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology, I would set state of origin aside unless the notice says otherwise.

Akwa Ibom Poly Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
O’levelFive credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus any two from a list that includes Biology/Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Metal Work and Economics/Commerce
English LanguageThe brochure says a credit in English Language is mandatory
Brochure remark for Akwa Ibom PolyNone found
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (named in the school notice)
SittingsNot stated in the reprint; most polytechnics accept two sittings

I would register English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for the UTME. When you plan your revision, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus will help.

Think of the five credits as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry first, then whatever helps Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology most in the remaining slots. The result on CAPS and the one you take to screening must match; the school and JAMB need to be looking at the same grades.

Direct Entry and the HND route

You cannot use Direct Entry for the first year of an ND, so admission to ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology is through the UTME and JAMB CAPS only. The HND route opens after the ND and the one-year industrial attachment, when you apply directly to the polytechnic, outside CAPS. Our guide to Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements explains how.

How Akwa Ibom Poly screening works

Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology applicants went through the same 2026/2027 process as every ND candidate at Akwa Ibom Poly: cut-off and screening fee published in June 2026, then screening for ND and HND applicants in September. I took the details from Myschool’s reprints because the polytechnic’s own website would not open.

DetailWhat the 2026/2027 notices sayStatus
Who can applyCandidates who scored 100 and above in the 2026 UTMEOfficial
O’levelFive credits including English Language and Mathematics, from WAEC, NECO or NABTEBOfficial
Screening fee₦2,000Official
Screening datesWednesday 9 to Friday 11 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. each dayOfficial; these dates have passed
FormatCandidates reported to their departments with their documents, including the WAEC or NECO statement of resultOfficial; no computer test was mentioned
Portal and closing dateNot shown in the reprintCheck the school website, akwaibompoly.edu.ng
2024/2025 (for comparison)A blog reported 120 and above, a ₦2,000 form and a 30 August 2024 closing dateUnofficial

No written or computer test was mentioned in the 2026 notice, only a document check at department level. When screening works like that, the UTME score and the strength of the O’level result are the main things separating candidates. For Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology, that puts the weight on your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits. The school has not published how it ranks candidates, so this is my reading.

Worked example for an ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology applicant

Take Ifiok, who scored 122 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Metal Work from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 122 minus 100 = 22. Ifiok is above the school minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 122 minus 120 = 2. That is inside the range I would aim for.
  3. O’level check: Ifiok’s five credits include the Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology core subjects and come from one sitting, so sittings are not an issue.
  4. CAPS check: the same O’level result must be uploaded to JAMB CAPS, or no offer can be approved.

Equal documents usually leave the higher UTME score ahead. So Ifiok, on 122, would rank above a 110 candidate with identical O’level grades. Treat this as illustrative, because Akwa Ibom Poly has not said how it ranks applicants after screening.

Your chances of getting Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly

  • Welding and Fabrication usually draws fewer applicants than other engineering courses, so scores near 120 can work.
  • The course is not on JAMB’s list for the school, so check that you can select it first.
  • If you cannot select it, Mechanical Engineering Technology is the closest course on JAMB’s list.
  • Blogs reported Akwa Ibom Poly releasing ND lists in batches in 2025/2026, so a missing name in the first list was not a rejection.
  • JAMB asked polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so offers can arrive late in the year.

How to apply for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: on the phone line linked to your NIN, send NIN, a space and the 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019.
  2. Pick a listed course at UTME registration: choose Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua with the subject combination above. Since Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology is missing from JAMB’s list for the school, register a course JAMB does list unless the admissions office tells you in writing how you can be considered for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology.
  3. Put your O’level on CAPS: have it done at a JAMB accredited centre. While CAPS shows no O’level result, JAMB cannot approve an offer.
  4. Fill the screening form: once the notice appears, follow the application link on akwaibompoly.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026), complete the form and print your slip.
  5. Sort out your choices before screening: a JAMB change of institution fixes things if Akwa Ibom Poly was not your choice, and JAMB change of course explains how to move into Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology from another course.
  6. Attend screening at the department: in 2026 each candidate reported to the department from 9:00 a.m. with documents. Bring the screening slip, your UTME result slip and the WAEC or NECO statement of result; for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology, it should show your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits.
  7. Accept your admission: when Akwa Ibom Poly offers you Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. If you are unsure what a status means, the JAMB CAPS guide covers each one.
  8. Pay acceptance and do clearance: no source I reached gives the Akwa Ibom Poly acceptance fee. Pay only through an invoice generated on the school portal, then clear with your printed JAMB admission letter.

If you still need to sit the UTME, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and once you have a score, see how to check your JAMB result.

Studying Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly

ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology sits in the School of Engineering at Ikot Osurua, near Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, off the Aba road. The course trains technicians who join, cut and shape metal for pipelines, structures, tanks and machines.

What you study

The Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology department has not put its own course list online, so these are the usual topics in the NBTE ND curriculum.

  • Welding processes: arc, gas, MIG and TIG
  • Metallurgy and properties of metals
  • Fabrication drawing and sheet metal work
  • Inspection and testing of welds
  • Workshop safety and machine shop practice
  • Engineering mathematics and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Expect two years full time for ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology, short SIWES placement included, in the standard NBTE structure. HND applicants then do the one-year industrial attachment and usually need at least a Lower Credit ND. This is the national pattern; Akwa Ibom Poly has not published a course-specific timetable.

In the NBTE directory, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is a state polytechnic established in 1991. That covers the school, though, and I could not confirm the NBTE status of ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology. Check with the department, or on the NBTE’s list of approved programmes, before you pay fees.

Careers after the ND

  • Welder or fabricator in construction and steel firms
  • Pipeline and structural welding technician in oil and gas
  • Weld inspection assistant (with further certification)
  • Self-employed fabrication workshop owner
  • HND in a related engineering course or international welding certificates

Mistakes that cost Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology applicants

  • Paying before checking CAPS: the course does not appear on JAMB’s list for this school.
  • No Chemistry credit: it is required at O’level.
  • Thinking it is only a trade course: it is a full ND with mathematics and science.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
  • Missing the departmental screening: in 2026 it ran for three days only, 9 to 11 September.

Akwa Ibom Poly Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology: frequently asked questions

Is Welding and Fabrication on JAMB for Akwa Ibom Poly? Not on JAMB’s list as reprinted by Myschool in November 2026, though it appears in the school’s 2026/2027 notice. Confirm with the admissions office and on CAPS before paying.

What are the JAMB subjects for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology? Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

When is Akwa Ibom Poly screening? The 2026/2027 ND and HND screening ran from 9 to 11 September 2026 and has now passed. Watch for the 2027/2028 dates; they are not out yet.

Is 105 enough for Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at Akwa Ibom Poly? It clears the 100 minimum, so you can apply. I would feel safe at 120 or more for this course, which means your O’level grades have to do more of the work at 105.

Sources and updates

Myschool reprinted the school’s 2026/2027 notice on 27 June 2026; that is the source for the cut-off of “100 and above” and the ₦2,000 fee for screening. Myschool reported the 9 to 11 September 2026 screening dates on 25 August 2026. The 120 reported for 2024/2025 is unofficial; it comes from an allschool blog post. Location and founding date come from Wikipedia and the NBTE directory. For the figures that apply to every polytechnic, I used the News Agency of Nigeria report on JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, published 11 May 2026: it gives the polytechnic minimum of 100 and the 31 December 2026 deadline for admissions. For the year before, the figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and AllAfrica and Blueprint reported the same. The Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology UTME and O’level requirements are from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure in Myschool’s reprint (ND Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology brochure page). The JAMB course list is the Myschool list of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic courses. Two things here are my own advice: the worked example and the safe target scores. Last checked 3 November 2026. When Akwa Ibom Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice, this page will be updated.
