The AKSU cut off mark for Soil Science for 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. Akwa Ibom State University set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, for candidates who chose AKSU first, and it has not published a separate departmental figure for Soil Science. Soil Science is a small department in the Faculty of Agriculture, and it is one of the quieter courses at AKSU, which works in your favour if you choose it on purpose.
2027/2028 update: AKSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Treat 150 as the score that lets you into screening. AKSU admits from the pool that clears it and does not publish the last score admitted into each course. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level subjects JAMB lists for Soil Science, how AKSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the NUC records show for the course.
AKSU cut off mark for Soil Science at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| AKSU minimum UTME score (2026/2027 Post-UTME and DE) | 150, with AKSU as first choice | Myschool reprint of the AKSU notice, 19 August 2026 |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| Departmental cut-off for Soil Science | Not published | No AKSU figure for 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 |
| Supplementary round | 150, AKSU first choice | Myschool report, 20 October 2026 |
| Screening fee and window | ₦2,000 plus bank charges; 19 August to 22 September 2026 | Closed |
| Faculty | Faculty of Agriculture | AKSU course list by faculty; supplementary notice (list partly cut off) |
| Degree and length | B.Agric., usually five years | Usual length in Nigeria; AKSU has not stated it |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics/Physics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| NUC status | “Agriculture” listed as Full (maturity 2026); no separate row | NUC accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 |
AKSU Soil Science cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | AKSU general minimum for Post-UTME and DE screening (AKSU first choice) | Myschool reprint of the AKSU notice |
| 2026/2027 supplementary | 150 | Same minimum for the October supplementary round | Myschool, 20 October 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not found | No AKSU figure for Soil Science | No source found |
| 2025/2026 (Health Sciences only) | Nursing 290; six other health courses 265 | Course minimums for the new Faculty of Health Sciences | Official AKSU advert, 3 January 2026 |
| 2026/2027 (MBBS only) | 290 | Minimum for Medicine and Surgery | Myschool reprint, 19 October 2026 |
The last two rows are there for contrast. AKSU does set higher course minimums when demand is heavy, as it did for Nursing, the other health courses and MBBS. It has not done that for Soil Science, so 150 is the figure that applies. If a blog prints a higher “AKSU Soil Science cut-off” without an AKSU notice behind it, do not treat it as official.
Safe target score for Soil Science at AKSU (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSU rule. Agriculture courses at state universities rarely fill on high scores, and AKSU was still advertising Soil Science in its October 2026 supplementary round, which suggests places were left after the main screening. The supplementary list I saw was cut off at “Soil”, so I am reading it as Soil Science, but check the full notice.
| Your UTME score | My read for AKSU Soil Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for AKSU screening |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; a place depends on how many others apply and on your O’level grades |
| 170 to 189 | Reasonable chance with good O’level grades |
| 190 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 190, with credits (ideally B3 or better) in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
Catchment and state of origin
AKSU is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It has not published a catchment list or a merit and catchment split, so I can’t tell you how much being from Akwa Ibom helps. Its January 2026 Health Sciences advert asked for a certificate of origin, so your state of origin is recorded at screening. Nothing in the notices I read limits admission to indigenes.
UTME subject combination and O’level for AKSU Soil Science
| Requirement | Soil Science at AKSU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any other Science subject |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes: Chemistry and one of Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Science or Biology, with Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Economics or Health Science also listed |
| AKSU-specific remark | None on the brochure page for this course |
| Sittings | Not stated in the AKSU notices I read; one sitting is safest |
| Awaiting result | Not stated; your result must be on CAPS before AKSU can offer you admission |
Soil Science is more chemistry than most students expect. Soil fertility, fertiliser use and soil testing are applied chemistry, and soil physics uses basic Physics. If you are stronger in Physics than in Mathematics, Soil Science is one course where Physics as your third UTME subject makes good sense.
Your fifth O’level credit must be a science subject. Physics is the best choice, though JAMB’s line accepts any science.
How AKSU screening works for Soil Science
AKSU’s 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted by Myschool, opened Post-UTME and Direct Entry registration to candidates who chose AKSU first and scored at least 150. No test format was published in any source I reached, so don’t assume a CBT until AKSU says so.

Worked example for Soil Science
AKSU has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities turn the UTME score into a mark out of 50 (UTME divided by 8) and five O’level grades into another 50 (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use that method below only to show how the pieces add up. It is an illustration, not AKSU’s formula.
Take Etimbuk, who scored 175 and has C4, C5, B3, C4 and C4 in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 175 minus 150 = 25. Etimbuk clears AKSU’s minimum by 25 marks.
- UTME part (illustrative): 175 divided by 8 = 21.88 out of 50.
- O’level part (illustrative): 7 + 6 + 8 + 7 + 7 = 35 out of 50.
- Illustrative total: 21.88 + 35 = 56.88 out of 100.
- What I would advise: he is in good shape for Soil Science, with a strong Chemistry grade. I would keep the course.
Ini scored 160 with low credits and Further Mathematics as her only other science. On the same illustration that is 20 + 27 = 47. Her UTME score is fine. Further Mathematics should count as a science subject, but I would ask the faculty to confirm before clearance.
How to apply for Soil Science at AKSU, step by step
- Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Soil Science with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology (or Agricultural Science) and Physics or Mathematics, and make AKSU your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before AKSU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. AKSU cannot offer admission to a candidate whose result is missing on CAPS.
- Watch for AKSU’s screening notice: in 2026 it opened on 19 August and closed on 22 September, and a supplementary round followed in October. Check aksu.edu.ng from July 2027.
- Register and pay: on www.aksu.edu.ng/app, follow START NOW, Enroll and PUTME, fill the form, pay the ₦2,000 fee (2026 figure) and upload your scans. Print the confirmation slip.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer.
- Pay acceptance and clear: AKSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the AKSU portal, then complete clearance with your original documents.
Warning
Every genuine AKSU offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling “admission slots” or promising to “upgrade” a score for Soil Science is not acting for AKSU. Pay only through invoices generated on the AKSU portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied for Soil Science this session, check CAPS for an offer or a transfer to another course. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
Studying Soil Science at AKSU
Soil Science is in AKSU’s Faculty of Agriculture. AKSU’s October 2026 supplementary notice placed the faculty’s courses at Ikot Akpaden, the main campus in Mkpat Enin LGA. The degree is a B.Agric., which normally takes five years in Nigeria, usually including a year of supervised farm practice.
NUC accreditation
The NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 list AKSU’s agriculture programme under the single name “Agriculture”, with Full accreditation and a maturity date of 2026, which means it was due for its next NUC visit in 2026. Soil Science has no row of its own, so I can’t confirm its separate status. If this matters to you, ask the faculty which accreditation result covers the department.
What you study
- Early years: chemistry, biology, physics, introductory agriculture and statistics.
- Soil fundamentals: soil formation and classification, soil physics and soil chemistry.
- Fertility and management: soil fertility and fertilisers, irrigation and drainage, and soil conservation.
- Field skills: soil survey and mapping, land evaluation, and soil and plant analysis in the laboratory.
- Practical year: farm and laboratory placements, then a final-year project.
Careers
Soil scientists work in soil-testing laboratories, fertiliser and agrochemical companies, plantations, land-use and environmental consulting, and state agricultural agencies. The skills also suit environmental impact work in oil-producing areas such as Akwa Ibom.

Mistakes that cost Soil Science applicants an AKSU place
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it gets you into screening, nothing more.
- Using a non-science fifth credit: JAMB’s Soil Science O’level line asks for any other science subject, so Economics or Government will not do.
- AKSU not first choice: both the main and supplementary 2026/2027 notices asked for AKSU as first choice.
- O’level not on CAPS: AKSU cannot admit you until it is there.
- Missing the window: the 2026 main screening ran for about five weeks. Late candidates had to wait for the supplementary round.
- Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at AKSU are separate steps.
If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if your score is in, see what to do with your JAMB score.
