UNIUYO Health Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO’s cut-off mark for Health Education is 150 (first choice only). UNIUYO requires a Chemistry credit and accepts nurses through DE. My safe target is 180.

The UNIUYO Health Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Health Education, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Health Education at UNIUYO is 180.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Health Education trains teachers and health promoters who teach people how to stay well. At UNIUYO it is a B.Sc. (Ed) in the Department of Physical and Health Education, approved by the university’s Senate in June 1991. Its UNIUYO remarks open the door to nurses and public health workers through Direct Entry. Here are the official figures, my safe target, the subject rules, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

UNIUYO Health Education cut-off history

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027150Minimum UTME to apply for screening; UNIUYO first choice; same for all coursesOfficial UNIUYO notice
2025/2026150Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choiceReported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen
2023/2024 supplementary140Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Health Education was not on the listOfficial UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023)

UNIUYO’s minimum has been 150 for two sessions. In September 2023, UNIUYO ran a supplementary exercise for candidates with 140 or more, listing the courses that still had places. Health Education was not on that list, while many other Education courses were. That suggests it filled in the main round, and it is why my target here is higher than for courses such as French or Music Education.

Safe target score for Health Education at UNIUYO (my advice)

UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Health Education, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Health Education
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening
150 to 159Eligible, but you are relying on a weak applicant pool
160 to 179Possible with good O’level grades
180 to 199Competitive. This is the range I would aim for
200 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 or more. Health Education was not on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, while its sister course Physical Education was. Candidates who miss Nursing or Public Health-type courses often pick it.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Health Education

RequirementHealth Education at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, plus two relevant subjects
O’level (JAMB general)Five credits including English Language and Biology (or equivalent), or five credits including English and Mathematics
O’level (UNIUYO remark)UNIUYO requires credits in English Language and Chemistry
O’level (UNIUYO department page)Five credits including English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology or Health Science, at not more than two sittings
Direct Entry (UNIUYO remarks)Accepts the Technical Teachers Certificate in Health Education; RN/NRN, Public Health Nursing Officers’ Certificate, Advanced Diploma in Health Education, Health Superintendent Certificate and equivalents, plus the UTME requirements; DE candidates without A-level or NCE Mathematics take remedial Mathematics in year one

JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook, and Myschool reprints it. The Health Education entry, read on 3 November 2026, needs Biology in the UTME plus two relevant subjects. Chemistry is the obvious choice, since UNIUYO asks for it at O’level; Physics or Mathematics can be the fourth.

UNIUYO’s own requirements are stricter than JAMB’s general line. Its brochure remark asks for credits in English and Chemistry, and the department page lists English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. Plan for all four.

Direct Entry into Health Education

Health Education has the widest DE door of any course in this group. UNIUYO accepts registered nurses, public health nursing officers, holders of advanced diplomas in health education and health superintendents, as well as the Technical Teachers Certificate in Health Education. The department page also lists NCE in Health Education or Physical and Health Education with merit, RN and RM, diplomas in public or environmental health, and HND or degrees in related fields.

One UNIUYO remark helps nurses in particular: DE candidates without A-level or NCE Mathematics can be admitted but must take remedial Mathematics in their first year. A note on timing for anyone also weighing a college of education. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates from the UTME (Nairametrics read it as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE guide applied it in 2026), and colleges of education stopped admitting straight into degree programmes from 2026/2027. An NCE with merit remains a recognised Direct Entry route into UNIUYO’s Education degrees, so a three-year NCE followed by DE is a real alternative if your UTME score is low.

How UNIUYO screening works for Health Education applicants

Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.

Admission deadlineJAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passedJAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026

Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.

Worked example for a Health Education candidate

UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.

  1. Candidate: Mbet scored 182 with B3 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C4 in Chemistry, B3 in Biology and C6 in Physics from one sitting, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics in her UTME.
  2. Eligibility: 182 minus 150 = 32. Mbet clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 32 marks and can apply.
  3. Against my safe target: 182 minus 180 = 2. Mbet is 2 marks above the score I would call competitive.
  4. O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, matching UNIUYO’s stricter rules.
  5. My advice: she is above my target and should keep the course first.

Victor scored 177 but has D7 in Chemistry. 177 minus 150 = 27, close to my target, yet UNIUYO’s remark requires a Chemistry credit. He needs to resit Chemistry.

Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Health Education

Health Education is a mid-competition course at UNIUYO. Its science O’level rules thin out the field, which helps candidates who have them.

Graduates teach health education in schools, and they also work in health promotion units, NGOs and public health programmes. It is not a clinical course; if you want to treat patients, look at Nursing.

For the UTME, our JAMB Biology syllabus covers your compulsory subject, and our JAMB Physical and Health Education syllabus helps if you plan to take PHE as a relevant subject (check that the e-brochure accepts it for this course first).

There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.

How to apply for Health Education at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Health Education with English, Biology and two relevant subjects, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
  4. Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
  5. Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Studying Health Education at UNIUYO

The Department of Physical and Health Education lists a B.Sc. (Ed) Health Education. UNIUYO’s Senate approved full-time B.Sc. (Ed) programmes in Physical Education and Health Education at its 68th meeting on 5 June 1991, with four-year (UTME) and three-year (DE) routes.

Accreditation

I opened more than thirty NUC accreditation reports for UNIUYO, including eleven Education programmes, and found none for Health Education. The NUC’s master results PDF could not be read as far as UNIUYO. So its NUC status is not confirmed here; ask the department before you accept. The NUC report for UNIUYO’s Human Kinetics Education programme (Full, 88.80%, November 2024) may cover the same department, but it does not name Health Education, so I have not credited it here.

What you study

  • Health sciences: human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, personal and community health, epidemiology basics.
  • Health promotion: school health programmes, health education methods, drug education, sexuality education, first aid.
  • Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum, measurement and evaluation.
  • Practical: teaching practice, community health fieldwork and a research project.

Careers

  • Health education teacher in schools
  • Registration with TRCN after graduation
  • Health promotion officer in hospitals, ministries and local government
  • Public health NGOs and programmes
  • Postgraduate study in health education or public health

If you need to change course, our JAMB change of course guide explains how.

Mistakes that cost Health Education applicants a UNIUYO place

  • No Chemistry credit: UNIUYO’s remark requires it.
  • No Biology in the UTME: the JAMB line requires it.
  • Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
  • Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.

If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.

UNIUYO Health Education cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
