AKSU Computer Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

AKSU’s minimum for Computer Engineering is the general 150 (2026/2027 figure for 2027/2028 planning). The course is NUC-approved but was not yet on JAMB’s AKSU list. Subjects and steps.

The AKSU cut off mark for Computer Engineering for 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME, the general minimum Akwa Ibom State University set for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, with AKSU as first choice. There is no separate departmental figure for Computer Engineering. The course is newly approved, and for 2027 candidates the listing problem in the warning below matters more than the score.

2027/2028 update: AKSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Check before you choose

Computer Engineering is one of 16 programmes the NUC approved for AKSU in a letter dated 13 February 2026, effective from 2025/2026. It was not on Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s AKSU course list when I checked on 3 November 2026. Before you choose it on your UTME form, confirm on the JAMB e-brochure or your e-Facility profile that AKSU appears for the course. If it does not, choose Electrical/Electronic Engineering, which is on JAMB’s AKSU list and covers much of the same ground, or Computer Science.

Treat 150 as the score that lets you into screening. AKSU admits from the pool that clears it and does not publish the last score admitted into each course. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level subjects JAMB lists for Computer Engineering, how AKSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the NUC records show for the course.

The last two rows are there for contrast. AKSU does set higher course minimums when demand is heavy, as it did for Nursing, the other health courses and MBBS. It has not done that for Computer Engineering, so 150 is the figure that applies. As a new programme, it has no earlier figure of its own.

Safe target score for Computer Engineering at AKSU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSU rule. Computer Engineering attracts strong candidates everywhere it is offered, and a new AKSU programme will likely draw from the same pool as Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Your UTME scoreMy read for AKSU Computer Engineering
Below 150Not eligible for AKSU screening
150 to 179Eligible, but a place in this course is unlikely
180 to 209Possible with excellent O’level grades
210 to 239Competitive
240 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 220, ideally 240, with credits (ideally B3 or better) in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus Further Mathematics if you have it.

Catchment and state of origin

AKSU is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It has not published a catchment list or a merit and catchment split, so I can’t tell you how much being from Akwa Ibom helps. Its January 2026 Health Sciences advert asked for a certificate of origin, so your state of origin is recorded at screening. Nothing in the notices I read limits admission to indigenes.

UTME subject combination and O’level for AKSU Computer Engineering

RequirementComputer Engineering at AKSU
UTME subjectsUse of English plus Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
O’levelFive credits: Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English Language (as the brochure prints it)
Direct EntryThree A-level passes in Pure Mathematics (or Pure and Applied Mathematics), Chemistry and Physics
AKSU-specific remarkNone; AKSU is not yet on JAMB’s AKSU course list for this course
SittingsNot stated in the AKSU notices I read; one sitting is safest
Awaiting resultNot stated; your result must be on CAPS before AKSU can offer you admission

The UTME line is the usual engineering one. The O’level line in JAMB’s brochure is stricter than for other engineering courses: it names Further Mathematics among the five credits. Many schools do not offer Further Mathematics, and many universities do not insist on it, but AKSU has not published its own line. If you have Further Mathematics, use it.

Because Computer Engineering and Electrical/Electronic Engineering share the same UTME subjects, choosing Electrical/Electronic keeps you in the same field if Computer Engineering is not on JAMB’s list for AKSU when you register.

How AKSU screening works for Computer Engineering

AKSU’s 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted by Myschool, opened Post-UTME and Direct Entry registration to candidates who chose AKSU first and scored at least 150. No test format was published in any source I reached, so don’t assume a CBT until AKSU says so.

Worked example for Computer Engineering

AKSU has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities turn the UTME score into a mark out of 50 (UTME divided by 8) and five O’level grades into another 50 (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use that method below only to show how the pieces add up. It is an illustration, not AKSU’s formula.

Take Emaediong, who scored 243 and has B3, A1, B2, B3 and B3 in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Further Mathematics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 243 minus 150 = 93. Emaediong clears AKSU’s minimum by 93 marks.
  2. UTME part (illustrative): 243 divided by 8 = 30.38 out of 50.
  3. O’level part (illustrative): 8 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 43 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 30.38 + 43 = 73.38 out of 100.
  5. What I would advise: his score and grades are strong. His first task is to check that AKSU is listed for Computer Engineering on JAMB; if not, Electrical/Electronic Engineering is the nearest listed course.

Ekom scored 201 with no Further Mathematics. On the same illustration that is 25.12 + 34 = 59.12. She qualifies on score. Without Further Mathematics she may not meet the brochure’s O’level line, so she should ask AKSU or choose Electrical/Electronic Engineering instead.

How to apply for Computer Engineering at AKSU, step by step

  1. Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: first confirm that AKSU is listed for Computer Engineering on the JAMB e-brochure. If it is, choose it with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and make AKSU your first choice. If it is not, choose Electrical/Electronic Engineering, which uses the same subjects.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. AKSU cannot offer admission to a candidate whose result is missing on CAPS.
  4. Watch for AKSU’s screening notice: in 2026 it opened on 19 August and closed on 22 September, and a supplementary round followed in October. Check aksu.edu.ng from July 2027.
  5. Register and pay: on www.aksu.edu.ng/app, follow START NOW, Enroll and PUTME, fill the form, pay the ₦2,000 fee (2026 figure) and upload your scans. Print the confirmation slip.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: AKSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the AKSU portal, then complete clearance with your original documents.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied for Computer Engineering this session, check CAPS for an offer or a transfer to another course. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Computer Engineering at AKSU

AKSU’s approval notice lists Computer Engineering (B.Eng.) without naming a faculty. It most likely sits in the Faculty of Engineering, but treat that as my inference. AKSU has two campuses, Ikot Akpaden and Obio Akpa, and the campus for the course is not confirmed. A B.Eng. normally takes five years in Nigeria and includes industrial training (SIWES). COREN registration is needed to practise as an engineer, and COREN accreditation for a programme this new is not confirmed.

NUC accreditation

The NUC approved Computer Engineering for AKSU in a letter dated 13 February 2026, effective from 2025/2026, according to AKSU’s notice as reprinted by Myschool. That is approval to start the programme, not accreditation. Accreditation visits normally come once the first students reach their later years, so the NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 have no row for it, as expected. Its accreditation status is not confirmed.

What you study

  • First two years: engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing and introductory programming.
  • Electronics: circuit theory, analogue and digital electronics.
  • Computer hardware: computer architecture, microprocessors and embedded systems.
  • Software and networks: data structures, operating systems, computer networks and software engineering.
  • Final years: industrial training and a design project.

Careers

Computer engineers design hardware and embedded systems, work in telecoms and network engineering, software development, data centres and industrial automation, and start technology businesses. COREN registration is needed to practise as an engineer.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Computer Engineering applicants an AKSU place

  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it gets you into screening, nothing more.
  • Choosing the course without checking JAMB’s list: it was not on JAMB’s AKSU list when I checked.
  • AKSU not first choice: both the main and supplementary 2026/2027 notices asked for AKSU as first choice.
  • O’level not on CAPS: AKSU cannot admit you until it is there.
  • Missing the window: the 2026 main screening ran for about five weeks. Late candidates had to wait for the supplementary round.
  • Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at AKSU are separate steps.

If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if your score is in, see what to do with your JAMB score.

AKSU cut off mark for Computer Engineering: frequently asked questions

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the AKSU first-choice rule, the ₦2,000 fee and the 19 August to 22 September 2026 window come from AKSU’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice as reprinted by Myschool (19 August 2026); abstechconnect reported the same figures. The supplementary round is from Myschool’s report (20 October 2026). The portal path, the document list and the 2025/2026 Health Sciences minimums come from AKSU’s official Health Sciences advert (3 January 2026), signed by the Registrar, Dr Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga. The MBBS figure of 290 is from Myschool’s reprint (19 October 2026). The subject lines are from the JAMB brochure entry for Computer Engineering on Myschool, which does not list AKSU for the course. The course was not on Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s AKSU course list (checked 3 November 2026). The NUC approval comes from Myschool’s reprint of AKSU’s notice on its 16 new programmes (18 February 2026), and the absence of accreditation rows from the NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline and the four-week acceptance window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The safe target scores and the aggregate in the worked example are my own illustrations. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if AKSU publishes a departmental cut-off for Computer Engineering.
