The UNIUYO Physical Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Physical Education, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Physical Education at UNIUYO is 170.
2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Physical Education trains PE teachers and coaches. At UNIUYO it is a B.Sc. (Ed) in the Department of Physical and Health Education, approved by Senate in 1991, and JAMB lists it for UNIUYO as Physical Education. Like Health Education, it needs a Chemistry credit at UNIUYO, which catches out many sports-minded candidates. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subject rules, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.
UNIUYO Physical Education cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| UNIUYO minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, with UNIUYO as first choice | Official UNIUYO 2026/2027 notice |
| Published cut-off for Physical Education | None | UNIUYO publishes no per-course figure |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Safe target score (my advice) | 170 | Consultant advice, not a UNIUYO rule |
| Name on JAMB’s UNIUYO list | Physical Education | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s UNIUYO course list (3 Nov 2026) |
| UTME subjects | English, Biology and two relevant subjects | JAMB brochure general line |
| Faculty | Faculty of Education | UNIUYO 2026/2027 Basic Studies advert (May 2026) |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 via Remita | Fee from Myschool reprint; Remita from official notice |
UNIUYO Physical Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME to apply for screening; UNIUYO first choice; same for all courses | Official UNIUYO notice |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choice | Reported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen |
| 2023/2024 supplementary | 140 | Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Physical Education was on the list | Official UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023) |
UNIUYO’s minimum has been 150 for two sessions. The useful extra clue is the 2023/2024 supplementary exercise, when UNIUYO invited candidates with 140 or more who had missed their first course to move into programmes with spare places. Physical Education was on that list, so it still had room after the main round. That is why my target for this course is modest.
Safe target score for Physical Education at UNIUYO (my advice)
UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Physical Education, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.
| Your UTME score | My read for UNIUYO Physical Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for UNIUYO screening |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level grades are clean and the subjects fit |
| 170 to 189 | Good chance. This is the range I would aim for |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. Physical Education was on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, so it had spare places. Your science O’level grades matter as much as the score.
UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Physical Education
| Requirement | Physical Education at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, plus two relevant subjects |
| O’level (JAMB general) | Five credits including English Language and Biology (or equivalent), or five credits including English and Mathematics |
| O’level (UNIUYO remark) | UNIUYO requires credits in English Language and Chemistry |
| O’level (UNIUYO department page) | Five credits including English, Mathematics and Chemistry, at not more than two sittings |
| Direct Entry (UNIUYO department) | NCE in Health Education or Physical and Health Education; OND/ND in a related field; or a degree or HND in a related field, each with the O’level requirements |
JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook, and Myschool reprints it. The Physical Education entry, read on 3 November 2026, needs Biology in the UTME plus two relevant subjects. Chemistry and Physics are the safest pair.
UNIUYO’s remark asks for O’level credits in English and Chemistry, and the department page adds Mathematics. Biology is in your UTME, so hold a credit in it too.
Direct Entry into Physical Education
The department accepts NCE holders in Health Education or Physical and Health Education, OND or ND holders in a related field, and degree or HND holders in related fields, all with the O’level requirements. UNIUYO’s brochure remarks also accept the Technical Teachers Certificate in Health Education and nursing and public health certificates for the department’s programmes.
A note on timing for anyone also weighing a college of education. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates from the UTME (Nairametrics read it as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE guide applied it in 2026), and colleges of education stopped admitting straight into degree programmes from 2026/2027. An NCE with merit remains a recognised Direct Entry route into UNIUYO’s Education degrees, so a three-year NCE followed by DE is a real alternative if your UTME score is low.
How UNIUYO screening works for Physical Education applicants
Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.
| Detail | UNIUYO 2026/2027 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Who could apply | 2026 UTME candidates with UNIUYO as first choice and at least 150; DE candidates with UNIUYO as first choice on JAMB DE | Official notice |
| Fee | ₦2,000, non-refundable, paid with a Remita RRR | Amount from Myschool reprint (5 June 2026) and a blog; RRR method from official notice |
| Portal | admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng | Official notice |
| What you do online | Create and verify an account, generate an RRR and pay, fill the form, upload documents as PDF, print the screening slip | Official notice |
| Test format | Not published. The notice only says “screening exercise” | Official notice is silent |
| Closing date in 2026 | Friday 7 August 2026, according to a blog | Not on the official page |
| Aggregate formula | Not published | No UNIUYO source |
| Admission deadline | JAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passed | JAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026 |
Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.
Worked example for a Physical Education candidate
UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.
- Candidate: Ubokobong scored 176 with C4 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C6 in Chemistry, B3 in Biology and C4 in Physics from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 176 minus 150 = 26. Ubokobong clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 26 marks and can apply.
- Against my safe target: 176 minus 170 = 6. Ubokobong is 6 marks above my safe target.
- O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics and Chemistry, matching UNIUYO’s rules.
- My advice: he is above my target and should keep the course first.
Favour scored 172 but has D7 in Chemistry. 172 minus 150 = 22, above my target, yet UNIUYO requires a Chemistry credit. She needs to resit Chemistry.
Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Physical Education
Physical Education is a realistic course at UNIUYO for candidates in the 160s and 170s, on the 2023/2024 supplementary evidence, as long as the Chemistry credit is in place.
UNIUYO’s department page says Pre-Degree graduates who meet the O’level rules can also be admitted. Expect practical sports courses as well as science courses.
For the UTME, our JAMB Biology syllabus covers your compulsory subject, and our JAMB Physical and Health Education syllabus helps if you plan to take PHE as a relevant subject (check that the e-brochure accepts it for this course first).
There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.
How to apply for Physical Education at UNIUYO, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Physical Education with English, Biology and two relevant subjects, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
- Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
- Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.
Studying Physical Education at UNIUYO
The Department of Physical and Health Education lists a B.Sc. (Ed) Physical Education, approved by UNIUYO’s Senate at its 68th meeting on 5 June 1991 with four-year (UTME) and three-year (DE) routes.
Accreditation
The NUC’s published accreditation report for UNIUYO’s Human Kinetics Education programme gives it Full status with a score of 88.80%, after a visit in November 2024 (NUC report). Human Kinetics is the newer name for physical education degrees, and UNIUYO’s Physical and Health Education department is the only one that would run it, but the report does not use the words Physical Education, so confirm with the department that it covers your programme.

Mistakes that cost Physical Education applicants a UNIUYO place
- No Chemistry credit: UNIUYO’s remark requires it.
- No Biology in the UTME: the JAMB line requires it.
- Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
- Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
- Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
- Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.
If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.
UNIUYO Physical Education cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
