Akwa Ibom Poly Library and Information Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

No departmental Library and Information Science figure is published at Akwa Ibom Poly, so the cut off mark is 100, the JAMB polytechnic minimum the school also used for 2026/2027. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The Akwa Ibom Poly Library and Information Science cut off mark is 100 in the UTME. The school, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic at Ikot Osurua, set “100 and above” in the 2026 UTME as its 2026/2027 ND cut-off. JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics is the same. For Library and Information Science alone there is no separate figure.

2027/2028 update: Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Library and Information Science appeared in the school’s 2024/2025 course list and is on JAMB’s course list for Akwa Ibom Poly. I could not see it in the 2026/2027 notice since the reprint ends before that part of the list. What lets you choose it is the JAMB listing.

Library and Information Science has no published figure of its own in any year, so anyone quoting one is guessing. The school figure moved from the 120 that blogs reported for 2024/2025 down to “100 and above” in the 2026/2027 notice, in line with JAMB’s national minimum.

Safe target score for Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly (my advice)

This table is my own call as someone who advises applicants, not a rule set by Akwa Ibom Poly. The school does not publish scored merit lists, so treat these Library and Information Science bands as estimates.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible with a fair chance
120 to 139Good chance; 120 is the score I would aim for
140 and aboveStrong

Aim for 120 or more in the 2027 UTME and clean O’level credits, especially in English Language and Mathematics. The minimum only gets you screened; the extra points protect you if Library and Information Science has more applicants than places.

Catchment and state of origin

Akwa Ibom Poly belongs to the Akwa Ibom State Government. Many state polytechnics favour indigenes somehow; this one has not published a 2026/2027 catchment list or quota. Candidates from other states are admitted as well. For Library and Information Science, I would set state of origin aside unless the notice says otherwise.

Akwa Ibom Poly Library and Information Science subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Library and Information Science
UTME subjectsUse of English and any three subjects from Arts, Social Science or Physical Science
O’levelFive credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus three other relevant subjects
English LanguageEnglish Language and Mathematics credits are expected at most polytechnics
Brochure remark for Akwa Ibom PolyNone found
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (named in the school notice)
SittingsNot stated in the reprint; most polytechnics accept two sittings

I would register English plus three subjects you are strong in, such as Government, Economics and Literature in English or Mathematics for the UTME. When you plan your revision, our JAMB Government syllabus will help.

Five O’level credits are needed. Start with English Language and Mathematics, the core of the Library and Information Science requirement, then fill any free slot with a subject that helps the course. Present the same result at screening that you upload to CAPS, so JAMB and the school are reading the same grades.

Direct Entry and the HND route

You cannot use Direct Entry for the first year of an ND, so admission to ND Library and Information Science is through the UTME and CAPS only. The HND route opens after the ND and a one-year industrial attachment, when you apply directly to the polytechnic, not through CAPS. Our guide to Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements explains how.

How Akwa Ibom Poly screening works

Library and Information Science applicants went through the same 2026/2027 process as every ND candidate at Akwa Ibom Poly: cut-off and screening fee published in June 2026, then screening for ND and HND applicants in September. I took the details from Myschool’s reprints because the polytechnic’s own website would not open.

DetailWhat the 2026/2027 notices sayStatus

O’levelFive credits including English Language and Mathematics, from WAEC, NECO or NABTEBOfficial
Screening fee₦2,000Official
Screening datesWednesday 9 to Friday 11 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. each dayOfficial; these dates have passed
FormatCandidates reported to their departments with their documents, including the WAEC or NECO statement of resultOfficial; no computer test was mentioned
Portal and closing dateNot shown in the reprintCheck the school website, akwaibompoly.edu.ng
2024/2025 (for comparison)A blog reported 120 and above, a ₦2,000 form and a 30 August 2024 closing dateUnofficial

No written or computer test was mentioned in the 2026 notice, only a document check at department level. When screening works like that, the UTME score and the strength of the O’level result are the main things separating candidates. For Library and Information Science, that puts the weight on your English Language and Mathematics credits. The school has not published how it ranks candidates, so this is my reading.

Worked example for an ND Library and Information Science applicant

Take Uduak, who scored 118 in English, Government, Economics and Literature in English, with credits in English, Mathematics, Government, Economics and Literature from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 118 minus 100 = 18. Uduak is above the school minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 118 minus 120 = -2. That is just under my target, so the O’level result has to be clean.
  3. O’level check: Uduak’s five credits include the Library and Information Science core subjects and come from one sitting, so sittings are not an issue.
  4. CAPS check: no offer can be approved until that same O’level result is on JAMB CAPS.

The UTME score usually decides between candidates whose documents are equally good. Uduak at 118 would sit above a candidate on 110 with identical O’level grades. I am illustrating, not quoting a rule: Akwa Ibom Poly has not said how it ranks applicants after screening.

Your chances of getting Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly

  • Library courses rarely attract the crowds that business courses do, so scores near the minimum can still work.
  • Your O’level credits in English and Mathematics matter more than a high UTME score.
  • If CAPS offers you Mass Communication or Office Technology and Management instead, both sit close to this field.
  • In 2025/2026, blogs reported several ND list batches from Akwa Ibom Poly. Missing the first list did not mean rejection.
  • JAMB asked polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so an offer can still come late in the year.

How to apply for Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly, step by step

  1. Start with the profile code: from the phone line linked to your NIN, text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019.
  2. Register the right combination: select Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua and Library and Information Science exactly as JAMB names it, and sit the subject combination above.
  3. Get your O’level onto CAPS: a JAMB accredited centre does the upload. While CAPS shows no O’level result, JAMB cannot approve an offer.
  4. Apply online: after the notice comes out, follow the application link on akwaibompoly.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026), complete the form and print your slip.
  5. Change of institution or course: a JAMB change of institution is the fix if Akwa Ibom Poly was not your choice, and JAMB change of course covers switching into Library and Information Science from another course.
  6. Attend screening at the department: in 2026 each candidate reported to the department from 9:00 a.m. with documents. Take your UTME result slip, your screening slip and the WAEC or NECO statement of result, and check that it shows your English Language and Mathematics credits.
  7. Accept on CAPS: once Akwa Ibom Poly offers you Library and Information Science, sign in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. If a status confuses you, the JAMB CAPS guide explains each one.
  8. Pay acceptance and do clearance: Akwa Ibom Poly has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Generate an invoice on the school portal and pay only through it, then complete clearance using your printed JAMB admission letter.

Warning

Every genuine Akwa Ibom Poly admission, Library and Information Science included, goes through JAMB CAPS. If anyone offers you a “special list” slot or a change of course for money, walk away. Real offers appear on your CAPS page, and real school payments go through a portal invoice in your name.

If you still need to sit the UTME, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and once you have a score, see how to check your JAMB result.

Studying Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly

ND Library and Information Science is taught in the School of Communication Arts on the Ikot Osurua campus, off the Aba road near Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. It trains library and records staff who organise books, files and digital information so people can find what they need.

What you study

The NBTE ND curriculum for Library and Information Science usually covers the topics below. The department has not published its own list online.

  • Introduction to librarianship and information science
  • Cataloguing and classification
  • Reference and information services
  • Library automation and digital libraries
  • Records and archives management
  • Use of English, computing and general studies

Duration and accreditation

The standard NBTE ND is two years full time and includes a short SIWES placement. The HND route then needs a one-year industrial attachment, and usually an ND at Lower Credit or above. There is no Library and Information Science timetable from Akwa Ibom Poly, so treat this as the national pattern.

In the NBTE directory, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is a state polytechnic established in 1991. That covers the school, though, and I could not confirm the NBTE status of ND Library and Information Science. Check with the department, or on the NBTE’s list of approved programmes, before you pay fees.

Careers after the ND

  • Library assistant in schools, universities and public libraries
  • Records or registry officer in government offices
  • Archive and documentation assistant
  • Information desk and data management roles in private firms
  • HND or a degree in Library and Information Science

Mistakes that cost Library and Information Science applicants

  • Skipping the JAMB list check: confirm how the school lists this course on CAPS before paying.
  • No Mathematics credit: most polytechnics still ask for one.
  • Assuming it is a dead-end course: records and data work is needed in almost every office.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
  • Missing the departmental screening: in 2026 it ran for three days only, 9 to 11 September.

Akwa Ibom Poly Library and Information Science: frequently asked questions

Is Mathematics compulsory for Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly? Plan on it. The brochure asks for English and Mathematics credits, and only some polytechnics, not including this one, have a remark accepting a pass in Mathematics.

What jobs can I get with an ND in Library and Information Science? Library assistant, records officer, archive assistant and information desk roles in schools, government and private firms.

When is Akwa Ibom Poly screening? The 2026/2027 round, for ND and HND candidates, ran from 9 to 11 September 2026 and has passed. Anyone aiming at Library and Information Science in 2027/2028 has to wait for new dates, which are not out yet.

Is 105 enough for Library and Information Science at Akwa Ibom Poly? Yes, 105 is above the 100 minimum, so you can apply. For Library and Information Science I would want 120 or more to feel safe, so your O’level result needs to be strong.

Sources and updates

Myschool reprinted the school’s 2026/2027 notice on 27 June 2026; it gives the cut-off of “100 and above” and the ₦2,000 screening fee. The 9 to 11 September 2026 screening details are from Myschool (25 August 2026). The 2024/2025 figure of 120 is from an allschool blog post and is unofficial. The campus location and the founding year are from Wikipedia and the NBTE directory. For the figures that apply to every polytechnic, I relied on the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026): it sets out the 100 floor for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 admission deadline. For 2025, the figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), with matching reports in Blueprint and AllAfrica. The Library and Information Science UTME and O’level requirements come from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure in Myschool’s reprint (ND Library and Information Science brochure page). JAMB’s course list here means the Myschool list of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic courses. My own advice covers two things: the safe target scores and the worked example. Checked 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when Akwa Ibom Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
