AKSU Zoology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

AKSU’s cut-off mark for Zoology is 150 (2026/2027 figure for 2027/2028 planning). Flexible UTME subjects, O’level, NUC status to 2029, screening and CAPS steps.

The AKSU cut off mark for Zoology for 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. Akwa Ibom State University set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, for candidates who chose AKSU first, and it has not published a separate departmental figure for Zoology. Zoology has a more flexible JAMB line than most AKSU science courses and Full NUC accreditation running to 2029.

2027/2028 update: AKSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Treat 150 as the score that lets you into screening. AKSU admits from the pool that clears it and does not publish the last score admitted into each course. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level subjects JAMB lists for Zoology, how AKSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the NUC records show for the course.

The last two rows are there for contrast. AKSU does set higher course minimums when demand is heavy, as it did for Nursing, the other health courses and MBBS. It has not done that for Zoology, so 150 is the figure that applies. If a blog prints a higher “AKSU Zoology cut-off” without an AKSU notice behind it, do not treat it as official.

Safe target score for Zoology at AKSU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSU rule. Zoology attracts fewer first-choice candidates than Microbiology or Biochemistry, so it is a realistic choice with a moderate score.

Your UTME scoreMy read for AKSU Zoology
Below 150Not eligible for AKSU screening
150 to 169Eligible; a place depends on how many others apply and on your O’level grades
170 to 189Reasonable chance with good O’level grades
190 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 190, with credits (ideally B3 or better) in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.

Catchment and state of origin

AKSU is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It has not published a catchment list or a merit and catchment split, so I can’t tell you how much being from Akwa Ibom helps. Its January 2026 Health Sciences advert asked for a certificate of origin, so your state of origin is recorded at screening. Nothing in the notices I read limits admission to indigenes.

UTME subject combination and O’level for AKSU Zoology

RequirementZoology at AKSU
UTME subjectsUse of English plus Biology and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology and two other science subjects
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes, or an NCE, in Biology, Zoology or Botany and one other science
AKSU-specific remarkNone on the brochure page for this course
SittingsNot stated in the AKSU notices I read; one sitting is safest
Awaiting resultNot stated; your result must be on CAPS before AKSU can offer you admission

Zoology is the one biological science at AKSU where JAMB does not fix Chemistry in the UTME. Biology plus any two of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will do. Even so, I would include Chemistry: physiology and parasitology lean on it, and it keeps you eligible for Microbiology and Biochemistry if you are transferred.

At O’level, the two “other science” credits can be Chemistry, Physics or Agricultural Science. Have Chemistry among them if you can.

How AKSU screening works for Zoology

AKSU’s 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted by Myschool, opened Post-UTME and Direct Entry registration to candidates who chose AKSU first and scored at least 150. No test format was published in any source I reached, so don’t assume a CBT until AKSU says so.

Worked example for Zoology

AKSU has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities turn the UTME score into a mark out of 50 (UTME divided by 8) and five O’level grades into another 50 (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use that method below only to show how the pieces add up. It is an illustration, not AKSU’s formula.

Take Ekpeno, who scored 180 and has C4, C5, B3, C4 and C5 in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 180 minus 150 = 30. Ekpeno clears AKSU’s minimum by 30 marks.
  2. UTME part (illustrative): 180 divided by 8 = 22.5 out of 50.
  3. O’level part (illustrative): 7 + 6 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 34 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 22.5 + 34 = 56.5 out of 100.
  5. What I would advise: he is well placed for Zoology. I would keep the course.

Precious scored 154 with bare credits including Biology and Agricultural Science. On the same illustration that is 19.25 + 26 = 45.25. She clears the minimum by four marks. She can apply and should accept quickly if AKSU makes an offer.

How to apply for Zoology at AKSU, step by step

  1. Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: choose Zoology with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics (or Mathematics), and make AKSU your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before AKSU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. AKSU cannot offer admission to a candidate whose result is missing on CAPS.
  4. Watch for AKSU’s screening notice: in 2026 it opened on 19 August and closed on 22 September, and a supplementary round followed in October. Check aksu.edu.ng from July 2027.
  5. Register and pay: on www.aksu.edu.ng/app, follow START NOW, Enroll and PUTME, fill the form, pay the ₦2,000 fee (2026 figure) and upload your scans. Print the confirmation slip.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: AKSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the AKSU portal, then complete clearance with your original documents.

Warning

Every genuine AKSU offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling “admission slots” or promising to “upgrade” a score for Zoology is not acting for AKSU. Pay only through invoices generated on the AKSU portal.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied for Zoology this session, check CAPS for an offer or a transfer to another course. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Zoology at AKSU

Zoology is in AKSU’s Faculty of Biological Sciences. AKSU has two campuses, Ikot Akpaden (the main campus, in Mkpat Enin LGA) and Obio Akpa (in Oruk Anam LGA), and no source I reached confirms which one the faculty uses. The degree is a B.Sc., which normally takes four years.

NUC accreditation

The NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 list AKSU’s programme as “Zoology” with three Full results, and a maturity date of 2029. That covers the current accreditation cycle, but a degree that starts in 2027/2028 runs past 2029, so check the status again before you graduate.

What you study

  • First year: general biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
  • Animal diversity: invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, and animal classification.
  • Function: animal physiology, histology, developmental biology and genetics.
  • Applied areas: parasitology, entomology, hydrobiology and fisheries, wildlife and ecology.
  • Final year: a research project, usually after industrial training.

Careers

Zoologists work in public health and disease-vector control, wildlife and conservation, fisheries, environmental assessment, research institutes, museums and teaching. Postgraduate study in parasitology, entomology or ecology leads to research careers.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Zoology applicants an AKSU place

  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it gets you into screening, nothing more.
  • Only one other science at O’level: the line needs Biology plus two other sciences, beyond English and Mathematics.
  • AKSU not first choice: both the main and supplementary 2026/2027 notices asked for AKSU as first choice.
  • O’level not on CAPS: AKSU cannot admit you until it is there.
  • Missing the window: the 2026 main screening ran for about five weeks. Late candidates had to wait for the supplementary round.
  • Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at AKSU are separate steps.

If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if your score is in, see what to do with your JAMB score.

AKSU cut off mark for Zoology: frequently asked questions

Is 170 enough for Zoology in AKSU? 170 clears AKSU’s 150 minimum, so you can apply. Whether it gets you in depends on the other applicants; my safe target for Zoology is 190 to 200.

Can I study Zoology at AKSU without Chemistry? In the UTME, yes: JAMB accepts Biology with any two of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. I would still sit Chemistry if you can.

Is Zoology at AKSU accredited? The NUC results for 1990 to 2025 show three Full results for AKSU Zoology, with a maturity date of 2029.

Is Zoology easier to get than Microbiology at AKSU? In my experience, yes. Zoology has fewer first-choice applicants, and AKSU uses the same 150 minimum for both.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the AKSU first-choice rule, the ₦2,000 fee and the 19 August to 22 September 2026 window come from AKSU’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice as reprinted by Myschool (19 August 2026); abstechconnect reported the same figures. The supplementary round is from Myschool’s report (20 October 2026). The portal path, the document list and the 2025/2026 Health Sciences minimums come from AKSU’s official Health Sciences advert (3 January 2026), signed by the Registrar, Dr Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga. The MBBS figure of 290 is from Myschool’s reprint (19 October 2026). The subject lines are from the JAMB brochure entry for Zoology on Myschool, which carries no AKSU-specific remark, and the course appears on Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s AKSU course list. The NUC status is from the NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026). The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline and the four-week acceptance window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The safe target scores and the aggregate in the worked example are my own illustrations. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if AKSU publishes a departmental cut-off for Zoology.
