AKSU Marine Biology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

AKSU’s cut-off mark for Marine Biology is 150 (2026/2027 figure for 2027/2028 planning). Subjects, O’level, Full NUC status to 2029, screening, worked example and CAPS steps.

The AKSU cut off mark for Marine Biology for 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. Akwa Ibom State University set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, for candidates who chose AKSU first, and it has not published a separate departmental figure for Marine Biology. Marine Biology suits a coastal state like Akwa Ibom, and the programme holds Full NUC accreditation running to 2029.

2027/2028 update: AKSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Treat 150 as the score that lets you into screening. AKSU admits from the pool that clears it and does not publish the last score admitted into each course. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level subjects JAMB lists for Marine Biology, how AKSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the NUC records show for the course.

The last two rows are there for contrast. AKSU does set higher course minimums when demand is heavy, as it did for Nursing, the other health courses and MBBS. It has not done that for Marine Biology, so 150 is the figure that applies. If a blog prints a higher “AKSU Marine Biology cut-off” without an AKSU notice behind it, do not treat it as official.

Safe target score for Marine Biology at AKSU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSU rule. Marine Biology draws fewer applicants than Microbiology or Biochemistry, but it is a distinctive course in Akwa Ibom and attracts candidates who want it on purpose.

Your UTME scoreMy read for AKSU Marine Biology
Below 150Not eligible for AKSU screening
150 to 174Eligible, but you may be offered a different course
175 to 199Possible with strong O’level grades
200 to 219Competitive
220 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 200, ideally 220, with credits (ideally B3 or better) in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, plus Physics.

Catchment and state of origin

AKSU is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It has not published a catchment list or a merit and catchment split, so I can’t tell you how much being from Akwa Ibom helps. Its January 2026 Health Sciences advert asked for a certificate of origin, so your state of origin is recorded at screening. Nothing in the notices I read limits admission to indigenes.

UTME subject combination and O’level for AKSU Marine Biology

RequirementMarine Biology at AKSU
UTME subjectsUse of English plus Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any other Science subject
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes in Biology and Chemistry
AKSU-specific remarkNone on the brochure page for this course
SittingsNot stated in the AKSU notices I read; one sitting is safest
Awaiting resultNot stated; your result must be on CAPS before AKSU can offer you admission

Biology and Chemistry are fixed, with Physics or Mathematics as the third UTME subject. The O’level line is a little more flexible than Microbiology’s: your fifth credit can be any science, so Agricultural Science or Geography (if your school treats it as a science) may count where Physics is missing. Confirm that at screening.

I would still sit Physics if you can. Oceanography and marine ecology courses use basic physics, and Physics keeps other AKSU science courses open if you are transferred.

How AKSU screening works for Marine Biology

AKSU’s 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted by Myschool, opened Post-UTME and Direct Entry registration to candidates who chose AKSU first and scored at least 150. No test format was published in any source I reached, so don’t assume a CBT until AKSU says so.

Worked example for Marine Biology

AKSU has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities turn the UTME score into a mark out of 50 (UTME divided by 8) and five O’level grades into another 50 (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use that method below only to show how the pieces add up. It is an illustration, not AKSU’s formula.

Take Aniedi, who scored 203 and has B3, C4, B2, B3 and C5 in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 203 minus 150 = 53. Aniedi clears AKSU’s minimum by 53 marks.
  2. UTME part (illustrative): 203 divided by 8 = 25.38 out of 50.
  3. O’level part (illustrative): 8 + 7 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 38 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 25.38 + 38 = 63.38 out of 100.
  5. What I would advise: he is competitive for Marine Biology. I would keep it as his first choice.

Mbobo scored 165 with low credits and Agricultural Science as her fifth science. On the same illustration that is 20.63 + 27 = 47.63. She qualifies on score. Agricultural Science should satisfy the “any other science” line, but she should be ready for a transfer offer to Zoology or Fisheries on CAPS.

How to apply for Marine Biology at AKSU, step by step

  1. Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: choose Marine Biology with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, and make AKSU your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before AKSU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. AKSU cannot offer admission to a candidate whose result is missing on CAPS.
  4. Watch for AKSU’s screening notice: in 2026 it opened on 19 August and closed on 22 September, and a supplementary round followed in October. Check aksu.edu.ng from July 2027.
  5. Register and pay: on www.aksu.edu.ng/app, follow START NOW, Enroll and PUTME, fill the form, pay the ₦2,000 fee (2026 figure) and upload your scans. Print the confirmation slip.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: AKSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the AKSU portal, then complete clearance with your original documents.

Warning

Every genuine AKSU offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling “admission slots” or promising to “upgrade” a score for Marine Biology is not acting for AKSU. Pay only through invoices generated on the AKSU portal.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied for Marine Biology this session, check CAPS for an offer or a transfer to another course. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Marine Biology at AKSU

Marine Biology is in AKSU’s Faculty of Biological Sciences. AKSU has two campuses, Ikot Akpaden (the main campus, in Mkpat Enin LGA) and Obio Akpa (in Oruk Anam LGA), and no source I reached confirms which one the faculty uses. The degree is a B.Sc., which normally takes four years.

NUC accreditation

The NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 list AKSU’s programme as “Marine Biology” with three Full results, and a maturity date of 2029. That covers the current accreditation cycle, but a degree that starts in 2027/2028 runs past 2029, so check the status again before you graduate.

What you study

  • First year: general biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
  • Marine life: marine invertebrates, fish biology, marine algae and plankton.
  • Ocean science: introductory oceanography, marine and estuarine ecology, and mangrove ecosystems.
  • Applied areas: marine pollution and oil-spill impacts, fisheries biology and conservation.
  • Final year: a field or laboratory project, usually after industrial training.

Careers

Marine biologists work in environmental monitoring and impact assessment for oil and gas companies, fisheries and maritime agencies, research institutes such as those focused on oceanography, aquaculture businesses and conservation NGOs. Postgraduate study opens research and lecturing.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Marine Biology applicants an AKSU place

  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it gets you into screening, nothing more.
  • Confusing Marine Biology with Marine Engineering: they are in different faculties with different UTME subjects.
  • AKSU not first choice: both the main and supplementary 2026/2027 notices asked for AKSU as first choice.
  • O’level not on CAPS: AKSU cannot admit you until it is there.
  • Missing the window: the 2026 main screening ran for about five weeks. Late candidates had to wait for the supplementary round.
  • Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at AKSU are separate steps.

If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if your score is in, see what to do with your JAMB score.

AKSU cut off mark for Marine Biology: frequently asked questions

Is 180 enough for Marine Biology in AKSU? 180 clears AKSU’s 150 minimum, so you can apply. Whether it gets you in depends on the other applicants; my safe target for Marine Biology is 200 to 220.

Is Marine Biology at AKSU accredited? The NUC results for 1990 to 2025 show three Full results for AKSU Marine Biology, with a maturity date of 2029.

What is the difference between Marine Biology and Fisheries at AKSU? Marine Biology is a B.Sc. about sea life and coastal ecosystems. Fisheries and Aquaculture is a B.Agric. about producing and processing fish.

Do I need Physics for Marine Biology in AKSU? Not strictly. JAMB allows Physics or Mathematics in the UTME, and the O’level line accepts any fifth science. Physics is still the safest choice.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the AKSU first-choice rule, the ₦2,000 fee and the 19 August to 22 September 2026 window come from AKSU’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice as reprinted by Myschool (19 August 2026); abstechconnect reported the same figures. The supplementary round is from Myschool’s report (20 October 2026). The portal path, the document list and the 2025/2026 Health Sciences minimums come from AKSU’s official Health Sciences advert (3 January 2026), signed by the Registrar, Dr Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga. The MBBS figure of 290 is from Myschool’s reprint (19 October 2026). The subject lines are from the JAMB brochure entry for Marine Biology on Myschool, which carries no AKSU-specific remark, and the course appears on Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s AKSU course list. The NUC status is from the NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026). The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline and the four-week acceptance window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The safe target scores and the aggregate in the worked example are my own illustrations. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if AKSU publishes a departmental cut-off for Marine Biology.
