MAU Crop Production and Horticulture Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

MAU Yola has no separate cut-off for Crop Production and Horticulture; its 2026/2027 screening minimum was 160. Here are MAU’s JAMB subjects, O’level options, Direct Entry routes and screening steps.

The MAU cut off mark for Crop Production and Horticulture is 160 in the UTME. Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU, formerly MAUTECH) set 160 as the minimum score for any candidate registering for its 2026/2027 screening with MAU as first choice, and it has not published a separate figure for Crop Production and Horticulture. JAMB’s national floor for universities is 150, so MAU sits 10 marks above it.

2027/2028 update: MAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from MAU’s latest screening notice (2026/2027), as reprinted by Myschool. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Crop Production and Horticulture covers field crops as well as fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), MAU’s own subject rules from the JAMB brochure, the Direct Entry routes, how screening works, a worked example and the steps through CAPS.

MAU used one figure, 160, for every course in both sessions. It has not released the score of the last candidate admitted into Crop Production and Horticulture, and the blogs that print MAUTECH “departmental cut-offs” do not cite an MAU document. For comparison, Adamawa State University, Mubi published 150 for its Crop Science programme in 2026/2027.

Safe target score for Crop Production and Horticulture at MAU (my advice)

This section is my judgement as an admissions adviser. MAU has not published a departmental cut-off for Crop Production and Horticulture, so none of these bands is an MAU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MAU Crop Production and Horticulture
Below 160Not eligible to register for MAU screening
160 to 179Eligible; a place is possible, more so with good O’level grades
180 to 199Good
200 and aboveStrong.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 to 190 or more. That is a comfortable margin above MAU’s 160 for a course with moderate demand. These bands are advice, not MAU rules.

Catchment and state of origin

MAU is a federal university. Federal universities generally admit under a national guideline that splits places between merit, catchment area and educationally less developed states, and Adamawa and the neighbouring north eastern states fall in the less developed group. MAU itself has not published a catchment list or the split it used for 2026/2027, so treat your state of origin as a possible help, never as a guarantee. The indigene form on MAU’s screening form is where your state of origin is recorded.

UTME subject combination and O’level for MAU Crop Production and Horticulture

RequirementCrop Production and Horticulture at MAU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any two of Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics and Mathematics (MAUTECH remark on the JAMB brochure)
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and one of Physics, Geography, Economics or Horticulture (MAUTECH remark)
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
SittingsAt most two (MAU screening form)

Horticulture is accepted as the fifth O’level subject at MAU, which is unusual and helpful if you took it. The general JAMB rule also asks for at least a pass in Physics; MAU’s remark does not, but a Physics pass costs you nothing and widens your options.

MAU’s remark is wider than the general JAMB rule for this course, which names Chemistry as a core subject. My advice is to take Chemistry as one of your two anyway. Your O’level must include Chemistry, the first year leans on it, and if MAU does not admit you, a combination with Chemistry keeps other universities open to you.

Direct Entry into Crop Production and Horticulture

MAU accepts an OND or HND in Agriculture or any other relevant field with at least a lower credit. The brochure also lists IJMB, NCE and GCE A level routes for MAU; the general A level rule is two passes, Chemistry plus one of Biology or Agriculture, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Mathematics or Economics. Confirm the exact DE subject list on your JAMB profile.

How MAU screening works for Crop Production and Horticulture

For Crop Production and Horticulture, MAU’s 2026/2027 screening was an online exercise: register on the admissions portal, pay, fill in your O’level results and upload documents. The only test reported in 2026 was for Medicine and Law applicants.

Worked example for a Crop Production and Horticulture candidate

MAU has not published an aggregate formula, and there is no Post-UTME score for this course to combine. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above 160 and how your O’level matches the brochure.

  1. Grace scored 172: 172 minus 160 = 12 above MAU’s minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 180 minus 172 = 8 below the lower end of my range.
  3. Subjects: English, Biology, Chemistry and Geography fit MAU’s remark.
  4. O’level: credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Geography from two sittings. That is allowed.

Grace is eligible and has a fair chance. If MAU instead offers her a related agriculture course through CAPS, accepting it within the four-week window protects her place.

How to apply for Crop Production and Horticulture at MAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Crop Production and Horticulture with English, Biology or Agricultural Science, and two of Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics and Mathematics, and put Modibbo Adama University, Yola as your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MAU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to JAMB: go to a JAMB accredited centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded so it shows on CAPS. MAU’s notice also asks you to upload it on the JAMB portal.
  4. Register for MAU screening: when the notice comes out, open the admissions portal from mau.edu.ng, verify your JAMB registration number, create an account and confirm your email.
  5. Pay and fill the form: generate a Remita RRR and pay (₦2,000 in 2025), then upload a passport photo (150 kb or less) and signature, enter your best five O’level subjects with the result checker details, add next of kin, and upload your O’level result, indigene form and birth certificate.
  6. Print your slip: print the acknowledgement slip and keep it for clearance.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept or reject the offer. JAMB gives four weeks to accept.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: MAU has not published its acceptance fee in any source we reached, so pay only through the invoice on the MAU portal after your CAPS offer shows.

Warning

MAU’s screening is online, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay only through the Remita invoice generated on MAU’s own admissions portal, and ignore anyone selling “departmental slots” or a “change of course” at a price.

Myschool reported around 3 October 2026 that MAU’s 2026/2027 admission list was out on JAMB CAPS. JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed. If you applied this year, your CAPS page shows the final result. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Crop Production and Horticulture at MAU

The course sits with MAU’s agriculture departments (Wikipedia lists a Faculty of Agriculture; we have not confirmed the department name on an MAU page). The B.Agric normally runs for five years, usually including a practical farm year.

Accreditation

NUC does not list Crop Production and Horticulture as a separate programme at MAU. Its Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026, list MAU’s Agriculture programme, the B.Agric that the agriculture departments share, with full accreditation and a maturity year of 2029. Ask the department to confirm that Crop Production and Horticulture is covered by that result.

What you study

  • Crop science: field crops such as cereals, legumes and root crops, crop physiology and crop protection.
  • Horticulture: vegetables, fruit trees, flowers and ornamental plants, nursery practice.
  • Supporting subjects: soil fertility, plant breeding, weed science, pests and diseases, irrigation.
  • Final stage: a field or greenhouse research project.

Graduates work on commercial farms and plantations, in seed and fertiliser companies, with agricultural research institutes, in extension services and in horticulture businesses such as plant nurseries and garden design.

For UTME revision, use our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Crop Production and Horticulture applicants an MAU place

  • Treating 160 as an admission score: it is only the screening minimum.
  • No Chemistry credit: compulsory in MAU’s O’level remark.
  • No Biology or Agricultural Science in the UTME: MAU needs one.
  • More than two O’level sittings: MAU’s form allows two at most.
  • Forgetting the JAMB O’level upload: MAU checks it on CAPS.

If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and JAMB change of institution.

Sources and updates

The 160 minimum and the 20 July to 31 August 2026 screening window come from Myschool’s reprint of MAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice (15 July 2026); we could not open the original on mau.edu.ng, so treat it as a reprint. The 2025/2026 figures, the ₦2,000 fee, the portal and the form steps come from Studentship’s reprint of MAU’s signed 2025/2026 notice. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules for Crop Production and Horticulture are from the JAMB brochure entry reprinted on Myschool, which carries MAUTECH’s own remarks; MAU appears there under its old name. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026).
