The MAU cut off mark for Agricultural Economics and Extension is 160 in the UTME. Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU, formerly MAUTECH) set 160 as the minimum score for any candidate registering for its 2026/2027 screening with MAU as first choice, and it has not published a separate figure for Agricultural Economics and Extension. JAMB’s national floor for universities is 150, so MAU sits 10 marks above it.
2027/2028 update: MAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from MAU’s latest screening notice (2026/2027), as reprinted by Myschool. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Agricultural Economics and Extension is one of the agriculture courses where 160 can be enough, because demand is lower than for the health and engineering courses. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), MAU’s own subject rules from the JAMB brochure, the Direct Entry routes, how the online screening works, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

MAU Agricultural Economics and Extension cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 160 | MAU minimum UTME score to register for online screening (MAU first choice) | Myschool reprint of MAU’s notice, 15 July 2026 |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 (NAN) |
| 2025/2026 | 160 | MAU minimum UTME score to register for screening | Studentship reprint of MAU’s signed notice, August 2025 |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting (Nairametrics) |
MAU used one figure, 160, for every course in both sessions. It has not released the score of the last candidate admitted into Agricultural Economics and Extension, and the blogs that print MAUTECH “departmental cut-offs” do not cite an MAU document. For comparison, Adamawa State University, Mubi published 150 for its own Agricultural Economics and Extension programme in 2026/2027.
Safe target score for Agricultural Economics and Extension at MAU (my advice)
This section is my judgement as an admissions adviser. MAU has not published a departmental cut-off for Agricultural Economics and Extension, so none of these bands is an MAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MAU Agricultural Economics and Extension |
|---|---|
| Below 160 | Not eligible to register for MAU screening |
| 160 to 179 | Eligible; a place is possible, more so with good O’level grades |
| 180 to 199 | Good |
| 200 and above | Strong. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for about 190 or more. That leaves a cushion above 160 if MAU receives more applicants than usual, and it keeps you competitive if you are later offered a transfer to a busier course. These bands are my advice, not MAU figures.
Catchment and state of origin
MAU is a federal university. Federal universities generally admit under a national guideline that splits places between merit, catchment area and educationally less developed states, and Adamawa and the neighbouring north eastern states fall in the less developed group. MAU itself has not published a catchment list or the split it used for 2026/2027, so treat your state of origin as a possible help, never as a guarantee. The indigene form on MAU’s screening form is where your state of origin is recorded.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MAU Agricultural Economics and Extension
| Requirement | Agricultural Economics and Extension at MAU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any two of Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics and Mathematics (MAUTECH remark on the JAMB brochure) |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and one of Physics, Geography, Economics or Marketing (MAUTECH remark) |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | At most two (MAU screening form) |
MAU’s rule lets you choose Economics, which suits this course well because the degree is half economics. A combination of English, Biology, Chemistry and Economics, or English, Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Mathematics, both fit the remark.
MAU’s remark is wider than the general JAMB rule for this course, which names Chemistry as a core subject. My advice is to take Chemistry as one of your two anyway. Your O’level must include Chemistry, the first year leans on it, and if MAU does not admit you, a combination with Chemistry keeps other universities open to you.
Direct Entry into Agricultural Economics and Extension
MAU accepts Direct Entry candidates with GCE A level credit passes in Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science; an OND or HND in Agriculture or a related field with at least a lower credit; or IJMB with 7 points from passes in Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, or Mathematics. You still need the O’level requirements above. DE candidates register for the same online screening.
How MAU screening works for Agricultural Economics and Extension
For Agricultural Economics and Extension, MAU’s 2026/2027 screening was an online exercise: register on the admissions portal, pay, fill in your O’level results and upload documents. The only test reported in 2026 was for Medicine and Law applicants.

Worked example for an Agricultural Economics and Extension candidate
MAU has not published an aggregate formula, and there is no Post-UTME score for this course to combine. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above 160 and how your O’level matches the brochure.
- Hauwa scored 178: 178 minus 160 = 18 above MAU’s minimum.
- Against my safe target: 190 minus 178 = 12 below the score I would call comfortable.
- Subjects: English, Biology, Chemistry and Economics fit MAU’s remark.
- O’level: credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Economics in one sitting. Nothing rules her out.
Daniel scored 163 with English, Agricultural Science, Physics and Geography, and his O’level has no Chemistry credit. His score clears 160, but the missing Chemistry credit fails MAU’s O’level rule. He would need to fix it with another sitting before clearance.
How to apply for Agricultural Economics and Extension at MAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick Agricultural Economics and Extension with English, Biology or Agricultural Science, and two of Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics and Mathematics, and put Modibbo Adama University, Yola as your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to JAMB: go to a JAMB accredited centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded so it shows on CAPS. MAU’s notice also asks you to upload it on the JAMB portal.
- Register for MAU screening: when the notice comes out, open the admissions portal from mau.edu.ng, verify your JAMB registration number, create an account and confirm your email.
- Pay and fill the form: generate a Remita RRR and pay (₦2,000 in 2025), then upload a passport photo (150 kb or less) and signature, enter your best five O’level subjects with the result checker details, add next of kin, and upload your O’level result, indigene form and birth certificate.
- Print your slip: print the acknowledgement slip and keep it for clearance.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept or reject the offer. JAMB gives four weeks to accept.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MAU has not published its acceptance fee in any source we reached, so pay only through the invoice on the MAU portal after your CAPS offer shows.
Warning
MAU’s screening is online, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay only through the Remita invoice generated on MAU’s own admissions portal, and ignore anyone selling “departmental slots” or a “change of course” at a price.
Myschool reported around 3 October 2026 that MAU’s 2026/2027 admission list was out on JAMB CAPS. JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed. If you applied this year, your CAPS page shows the final result. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
Studying Agricultural Economics and Extension at MAU
The course belongs with MAU’s agriculture departments (Wikipedia lists a Faculty of Agriculture; we have not seen an MAU page confirming the structure). MAU’s main campus is at Girei, near Yola. The degree is normally a B.Agric over five years, which in Nigeria usually includes a year of farm practice.
Accreditation
NUC does not list Agricultural Economics and Extension as a separate programme at MAU. Its Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026, list MAU’s Agriculture programme, the B.Agric that the agriculture departments share, with full accreditation and a maturity year of 2029. Ask the department to confirm that Agricultural Economics and Extension is covered by that result.
What you study
- Early years: general agriculture, crop and animal science, soil science, introductory economics and statistics.
- Economics side: farm management, agricultural marketing, production economics, agricultural finance and policy.
- Extension side: rural sociology, communication with farmers, extension methods and programme planning.
- Final stage: a research project, often a farm survey.
Graduates work in agricultural banks and microfinance, agribusiness firms, extension services and agricultural development programmes, NGOs working with farmers, and their own farm enterprises.

Mistakes that cost Agricultural Economics and Extension applicants an MAU place
- Treating 160 as a guaranteed place: it is the minimum to register for screening.
- No Chemistry credit at O’level: MAU’s remark lists Chemistry as compulsory.
- Leaving out Biology and Agricultural Science in the UTME: MAU needs one of them.
- O’level not uploaded to JAMB: MAU asks for the upload on the JAMB portal too.
- Missing the CAPS acceptance: an offer you never accept can be lost.
If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and JAMB change of institution.

Sources and updates
The 160 minimum and the 20 July to 31 August 2026 screening window come from Myschool’s reprint of MAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice (15 July 2026); we could not open the original on mau.edu.ng, so treat it as a reprint. The 2025/2026 figures, the ₦2,000 fee, the portal and the form steps come from Studentship’s reprint of MAU’s signed 2025/2026 notice. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules for Agricultural Economics and Extension are from the JAMB brochure entry reprinted on Myschool, which carries MAUTECH’s own remarks; MAU appears there under its old name. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The admission list date is from Myschool (about 3 October 2026). The course list check uses Myschool’s list of JAMB courses for MAUTECH. NUC accreditation results are from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026), where MAU is listed under its old name. Checked on 3 November 2026.
