The Obong University cut-off mark for Christian Religious Studies is 150 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s minimum for every Nigerian university in 2026/2027. Obong has not published a separate departmental figure for Christian Religious Studies. The programme has full NUC accreditation with a maturity date of 2029, and you apply with five O’level credits including English and Mathematics.
2027/2028 update: Obong University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They are based on JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because Obong University has not published its own course cut-offs. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Obong University is a private Churches of Christ university at Obong Ntak in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. This guide covers the Christian Religious Studies cut-off and what to do with it: the JAMB subject combination checked against the brochure, O’level and Direct Entry rules, screening, a safe target score, the CAPS steps and what the course leads to.
Obong University Christian Religious Studies cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities (2026/2027) | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Obong’s own cut-off for Christian Religious Studies | Not published | Obong is not on the published list of institution-declared minimums from the 2026 policy meeting |
| Figure quoted by o3schools (February 2026) | 140 | Below JAMB’s university floor, so it cannot be used |
| 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities | 30 November 2026 | JAMB, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026 |
| NUC status | Latest status Full, maturity 2029 (Interim twice, then Full) | NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 |
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, so Obong’s admissions for this cycle run until that date. Public universities had an earlier deadline of 31 October 2026, which has passed.
Obong Christian Religious Studies cut-off history
| Session | Minimum that applies | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB’s university minimum (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025); Obong published no course figure |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB’s university minimum; Obong published no course figure |
| 2027/2028 | Plan with 150 | JAMB’s 2027 policy meeting has not taken place yet |
You may see 140 quoted as Obong’s cut-off on o3schools. That blog post cites no Obong notice, and 140 is below the 150 JAMB set for universities in 2026. A candidate with 140 to 149 cannot be admitted into any Nigerian university through the 2026 UTME, so ignore that figure. If your score falls there, the realistic routes are rewriting the UTME or a one-year programme such as JUPEB, which Obong advertises separately.
Safe target score for Christian Religious Studies at Obong (my advice)
Obong does not release departmental cut-offs, so the table below is my judgement as a consultant, based on how private universities in Akwa Ibom fill their places. It is not an Obong figure.
| Your UTME score | What I would expect | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not admissible through UTME | Rewrite the UTME or consider JUPEB |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; offer depends on your O’level and the number of applicants | Apply early and make sure your documents are complete |
| 165 to 189 | A good position for Christian Religious Studies | Complete the screening as soon as the form opens |
| 190 and above | Very strong for Obong | Also consider whether a public university fits your plans |
Obong is a Churches of Christ university, and CRS has full NUC accreditation to 2029. Demand is modest, so meeting the subject rule and JAMB’s 150 floor puts you in a strong position.
Christian Religious Studies admission requirements at Obong University
UTME subject combination for Christian Religious Studies
I checked the JAMB brochure entry for Christian Religious Studies on Myschool’s reprint on 3 November 2026. It has no remark for Obong University, so the general requirement applies. Use of English is compulsory for every candidate and is not counted among the three subjects below.
| Requirement | JAMB brochure (general line) | My reading for Obong |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Two Arts subjects including CRS, and any other subject | Use of English, CRS, Literature in English and Government |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, CRS and three other relevant subjects | Five credits at no more than two sittings, with English Language and Mathematics included |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes or NCE, including CRS or Religious Studies | Enter at 200 level, if Obong is admitting DE candidates for Christian Religious Studies |
CRS must appear in both the UTME and the O’level. JAMB lists the course as Christian Religious Studies (CRS).
O’level rules at Obong
Obong’s general rule, as reported for 2026/2027, is five credits including English Language and Mathematics at no more than two sittings. WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results are the usual choices. Two sittings are allowed, but both results must be uploaded to your JAMB profile, and the five subjects you rely on must be credits (C6 or better).
Direct Entry, JUPEB and transfer
Obong admits Direct Entry candidates to 200 level, and it also runs a JUPEB programme and accepts inter-university transfers, according to the 2026/2027 form posts. Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB through the DE portal and must meet the O’level requirement. Obong has not published the minimum grades it accepts for each DE qualification, so ask the admissions office.
How Obong screening works for Christian Religious Studies
Obong runs a post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise each session. For 2026/2027 the form was reported at N10,000, payable at banks, by o3schools. I have not seen an official Obong notice confirming the price, the test format or the dates, so treat these as unconfirmed. Obong has not said whether it runs a written test, an oral interview or document screening only.
Worked example (illustrative)
Obong has not published a scoring formula. Many Nigerian universities combine the UTME score and the screening score into an aggregate out of 100, so here is how that kind of formula works. It is an illustration, not Obong’s method.
| Step | Emaediong | Akpabio |
|---|---|---|
| UTME score | 168 | 152 |
| UTME part (score divided by 8, out of 50) | 21 | 19 |
| Screening score (out of 50) | 27 | 32 |
| Illustrative aggregate (out of 100) | 48 | 51 |
Under a formula like this, a strong screening result can lift a lower UTME score past a stronger one. Whatever Obong uses, your O’level must be complete and uploaded before an offer can go through CAPS.
Admission odds and advice
Obong is a private university that competes for students with the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State University and the newer private universities in the state. That works in your favour: if you have 150 or more and the right subjects, the main barrier is usually your paperwork.
- Put Obong as your first choice. CAPS processes admissions from first-choice candidates first.
- Buy the screening form only from the university or through a channel it names, and keep the payment receipt.
- If you chose another university first and now want Obong, use a JAMB change of institution before the 2026/2027 window closes.
- If you picked the wrong course name, fix it with a JAMB change of course.
How to apply for Christian Religious Studies at Obong, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use for registration. JAMB replies with a profile code that you take to an accredited CBT centre. Dates are in our guide to JAMB 2027 registration dates.
- Choose Obong University and the course correctly: make Obong University your first choice and pick Christian Religious Studies under exactly that course name. A safe set of UTME subjects is Use of English, CRS, Literature in English and Government.
- Upload your O’level result: go to a JAMB-accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC or NECO result uploaded to your JAMB profile. CAPS cannot move you to admission without it, and awaiting-result candidates must upload before they can be offered a place.
- Buy the Obong screening form: get the post-UTME or Direct Entry form from Obong University itself. The 2026/2027 form was reported at N10,000. Fill in your JAMB registration number, UTME score and O’level details exactly as they appear on your documents.
- Check and accept on CAPS: log in to JAMB’s e-facility portal, open CAPS and accept the offer when it appears. Our guide to JAMB CAPS explains each status.
- Pay the acceptance fee and print your letters: pay the university’s acceptance fee only through the channel the university names, then print your JAMB admission letter from the e-facility portal.
- Prepare for clearance: keep the original O’level certificate or statement of result, JAMB result slip, birth certificate or declaration of age, local government identification, passport photographs and, for Direct Entry, your A-level, ND or NCE result.

Mistakes that cost Christian Religious Studies applicants an Obong place
- Leaving CRS out of the UTME because you plan to rely on your O’level CRS credit.
- Trusting the 140 figure on blogs. It is below JAMB’s 150 floor for universities.
- Forgetting to upload the O’level result, so the offer stays stuck on CAPS.
- Paying an agent who promises an Obong place. Offers only count when they appear on CAPS.
- Waiting until late November. The 2026/2027 deadline for private universities is 30 November 2026.
