The Gregory University Geology cut off mark is not published as a separate figure. Gregory used 140 as its general minimum UTME score in 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, but JAMB’s minimum for universities in 2026 is 150, so 150 is the floor. For Geology I would aim for 160 or more. Geology is on JAMB’s list of Gregory courses, and the name to register is simply Geology, even though some course lists call Gregory’s department “Geology and Mining”.
2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices Gregory has published (2024/2025 and 2025/2026) and JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because no 2026/2027 Gregory notice with a score was available. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Accreditation, said plainly: I found no NUC accreditation result for Gregory’s Geology. NUC’s per-programme report pages carry Gregory results from its late 2024 visits for Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Insurance, International Relations, Medical Laboratory Science, English and Health Education, all full. None is for Geology, and NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results publication could not be read as far as Gregory’s entry. Ask Gregory for its NUC letter before you pay. If you would rather study Geology where NUC has published a recent full result, NUC’s report pages show Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (full, 88.04%, visit December 2024) and FUTO (full, 83.60%, visit early 2025). We also cover Geology at UNN.

| NUC accreditation | Not confirmed | No NUC result found |
Gregory University cut-off history for Geology
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | Not published | No Gregory notice with a minimum score was found | JAMB’s university minimum for 2026 is 150 |
| 2025/2026 | 140 | General minimum UTME score for Gregory’s post-UTME (Gregory as first choice) | Myschool reprint of the notice, 24 July 2025 |
| 2024/2025 | 140 | General minimum UTME score (2023 UTME) for screening | Official, Gregory University website, 19 August 2024 |
Gregory has never published a separate figure for Geology. The 140 applied to every course in both notices. Because JAMB raised the floor for universities to 150 at its May 2026 policy meeting, a Gregory notice cannot admit anyone below 150 for 2026 admissions, and I would not expect the 2027 floor to drop back. Plan with 150 as the line you must cross, and treat anything above it as your margin for the course itself.
Safe target score for Geology at Gregory (my advice)
Geology is not one of the crowded courses, and many Geology students at Nigerian universities first applied for something else, which works in your favour. The table is my judgement, not a Gregory rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Gregory Geology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible in the 2026 cycle |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; good science credits will matter |
| 160 to 179 | Competitive |
| 180 and above | Strong |
UTME subject combination and O’level for Gregory Geology
| Requirement | Geology |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography |
| Safest UTME choice | Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (accepted everywhere; several universities refuse Geography) |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject |
| Sittings | Not more than two (Gregory’s 2025/2026 notice) |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography |
| Gregory-specific remark | None in the brochure reprint |
These rules come from the JAMB brochure entry for Geology as reprinted by Myschool. The general rule is flexible, so Chemistry is not strictly compulsory in the UTME for Gregory. I would still take Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics: they keep every other Geology department open to you if you change institution, and they match what you will study. Note that the O’level core lists Biology, not Physics, so make Physics your fifth credit if you can.
How Gregory University screening works for Geology
Gregory runs an online post-UTME registration. The details below come from the university’s 2024 notice and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool. Gregory had not published 2026/2027 dates or a fee in any source I could reach, so treat the fee as last year’s figure.
| Detail | What Gregory has published |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme |
| Who can apply | Candidates who chose Gregory University in the UTME and scored the minimum (140 in 2024/2025 and 2025/2026; JAMB’s floor is now 150) |
| Fee | ₦2,000, non-refundable, paid with an ATM card (2025/2026 notice) |
| Uploads | Passport photograph (PDF), UTME result slip, O’level result (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) |
| O’level sittings | Up to two sittings |
| Test or interview | Not stated in any notice; Gregory has not said whether it runs a CBT |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Other routes | Gregory’s site has links for transfer, JUPEB and distance learning; Direct Entry candidates are screened too |
Worked example for a Geology candidate
Gregory has not published how it ranks candidates, so there is no official aggregate to calculate. What you can work out is how far your UTME score sits above JAMB’s floor and above a sensible target, and whether your O’level meets the course rules. The method below is my illustration, not a Gregory formula.
Take Uchenna, who scored 168 with English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics from one sitting.
- National floor: 168 minus 150 = 18.
- Against my safe target: 168 minus 160 = 8. He is in the competitive band.
- O’level check: English, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, plus Physics as the fifth. That meets the general rule.
- What I would advise: register for screening, upload his O’level on CAPS, and watch for the offer.
Ifeoma scored 174 with English, Biology, Chemistry and Geography, but has no Biology credit at O’level. Her score is fine and her UTME subjects meet the rule; the missing Biology credit is the problem, because the brochure’s O’level core includes it.
How to apply for Geology at Gregory University, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick Geology as the course and Use of English plus three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics is safest) as your subjects, with Gregory University, Uturu as your first choice.
- Fix your choice if needed: if Gregory was not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before you register for screening. The 2025/2026 notice was for candidates who chose Gregory first.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre, once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Universities cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Register for screening: on the Gregory post-UTME portal, fill the form, upload your passport photograph (PDF), UTME result and O’level result, then pay the screening fee online.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Accept on CAPS: accept the offer, print your JAMB admission letter, then follow Gregory’s instructions for the acceptance fee and clearance. Gregory has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached, so confirm the amount on the official portal before paying.
Warning
Gregory University says applicants should pay only through its official portals and that it has no authorised agents. Every genuine admission shows on JAMB CAPS, so ignore anyone selling a “slot” or a “special list”.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). JAMB also stated that admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Gregory’s phone lines on its 2024 admission notice were 0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920.
Studying Geology at Gregory University
Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012 and sited at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The university lists twelve colleges and says it runs over 55 programmes.
Gregory lists Geology under its College of Environmental Sciences, while JAMB files it under Sciences. Gregory has not published the degree title or duration; a B.Sc in Geology in Nigeria normally takes four years.
What you study
- Earth materials: mineralogy, petrology and crystallography.
- Earth history and structure: stratigraphy, palaeontology, structural geology and sedimentology.
- Applied geology: petroleum geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology, mining and mineral exploration, and geophysics.
- Field mapping: geology degrees include field trips and an independent mapping exercise.
Accreditation and professional registration
Geoscientists in Nigeria register with the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG). I could not confirm Gregory’s NUC or COMEG status for Geology, so ask for the letters and for the number of classes the department has graduated.

Mistakes that cost Geology applicants
- Planning with 140: JAMB’s 150 floor applies now.
- Registering “Geology and Mining”: the name on JAMB’s Gregory list is Geology.
- No Biology credit: the general O’level core includes it.
- Relying on Geography in the UTME: it is allowed by the general rule, but it narrows your options if you change institution.
- Skipping the CAPS upload: you cannot be recommended without it.
Gregory University Geology cut off mark: FAQs
What is the cut off mark for Geology in Gregory University? Gregory has no separate Geology figure. It used 140 for all courses in its last two notices, and JAMB’s 2026 university floor is 150, so you need at least 150.
Can I study Geology at Gregory without Physics? Yes in the UTME: any three of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography meet the general rule. I would still take Physics because the course uses it.
Is Geology at Gregory University accredited by NUC? I found no NUC result for it. Ask Gregory for the accreditation letter before paying, or consider COOU or FUTO, where NUC published full results for Geology after their 2024 and 2025 visits.
Is Gregory University Geology the same as Geology and Mining? Some course lists call the department Geology and Mining. On JAMB, register the course as Geology, which is the name on Gregory’s JAMB list.
