If you are searching for the ESPOLY Civil Engineering Technology cut-off mark, start here: the course is not on JAMB’s course list for Enugu State Polytechnic in the Myschool reprint, and it was not in ESPOLY’s own 2021/2022 list of ND programmes either. The only 2026 source naming it is a blog. Until it shows under ESPOLY on JAMB, you cannot choose it in the UTME. If it does appear, the score to plan with is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100, and ESPOLY’s last published floor for ND courses was 120.
2027/2028 update: ESPOLY cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Below are the official figures, what the missing listing means for you, the UTME and O’level rules for civil engineering from JAMB’s brochure, and the realistic options: two ESPOLY engineering courses that take the same subjects, and IMT Enugu’s civil engineering programme.

Is Civil Engineering Technology on JAMB’s list for ESPOLY?
No, not on the reprint I checked on 29 October 2026. Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s course list for Enugu State Polytechnic (Enu-poly) has 10 courses: Accountancy, Agricultural Technology, Animal Health and Production Technology, Banking and Finance, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Horticultural Technology, Production Tech and Statistics (Myschool course list). The only engineering courses there are Computer Engineering and Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, plus Production Tech.
The evidence that ESPOLY runs Civil Engineering Technology is thin. ESPOLY’s 2021/2022 ND screening notice listed 17 programmes, including Computer Engineering and Electrical Electronics Engineering, but no civil engineering (Myschool reprint). The one 2026 source that names an ND in Civil Engineering Technology at ESPOLY is Teezab’s course list of 20 July 2026, which puts it in the School of Engineering Technology but cites no ESPOLY document and gives no HND in it. ESPOLY’s own departments page could not be opened. The department may be new and awaiting JAMB listing, or the blog may be wrong; I could not settle which.
What this means for UTME candidates
- JAMB’s registration screen only shows courses it has listed for each institution. If Civil Engineering Technology is not under Enugu State Polytechnic, you cannot select it there.
- JAMB said on 11 May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Any offer of a civil engineering place at ESPOLY that does not appear on your CAPS page is not an admission.
- Civil Engineering Technology uses Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, the same UTME subjects as the two engineering courses ESPOLY does have on JAMB. You lose nothing by registering for one of those while you check.
- If you want civil engineering itself, choose IMT Enugu, whose name appears in JAMB’s brochure entry for this course, or a university civil engineering degree.
ESPOLY Civil Engineering Technology cut-off mark: official figures
ESPOLY’s 15 May 2026 notice announces 2026/2027 admissions without a score (espoly.edu.ng). JAMB’s polytechnic minimum, 100 for 2026/2027 (NAN, 11 May 2026) and 100 for 2025/2026 (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025), is the only current figure. ESPOLY’s 120 floor from 2021/2022 applied to its ND courses at the time, and civil engineering was not one of them.
| Session | Figure | Who set it | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027/2028 | Not yet fixed; plan with 100 | JAMB | JAMB’s next policy meeting |
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | NAN, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
| 2021/2022 | 120 | ESPOLY screening notice (ND courses then offered; civil engineering not among them) | Myschool reprint, 30 November 2021 |
Safe target score (consultant advice)
For civil engineering at any polytechnic I would aim for 150 or more. That is my planning figure, not an ESPOLY or IMT number. Engineering places fill faster than most ND courses, and 150 keeps both IMT Civil Engineering Technology and ESPOLY’s two listed engineering courses within reach.
| Your UTME score | What it means |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic |
| 100 to 129 | Eligible, but weak for engineering; consider a less competitive course |
| 130 to 149 | Possible at ESPOLY’s listed engineering courses |
| 150 to 179 | Competitive for civil engineering at IMT and for ESPOLY engineering |
| 180 and above | Strong; a university civil engineering degree is also worth trying |
UTME subject combination for Civil Engineering Technology
JAMB’s polytechnic brochure asks for Use of English plus Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (brochure entry). The UTME remarks cover Kano, Ede, Ilaro, Yabatech and Bauchi polytechnics; Ilaro and Yabatech accept Technical Drawing in place of Chemistry. There is no Enugu State Polytechnic remark, so the general line applies if the course ever appears under ESPOLY.
| Subject | Status |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory for every UTME candidate |
| Mathematics | Compulsory |
| Physics | Compulsory |
| Chemistry | Compulsory under the general line |
This is also the combination for Computer Engineering and Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology at ESPOLY, and for IMT Civil Engineering Technology. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus guide covers the Chemistry paper.
O’level requirements for Civil Engineering Technology
JAMB’s brochure asks for five credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics or Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Woodwork, Further Mathematics, English Language, Geography and Economics or Commerce. It adds that at least a credit in English Language is required.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Number of credits | Five |
| Compulsory | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and a credit in English Language |
| Best fifth subject | Technical Drawing or Further Mathematics |
| Sittings | No more than two (reported for ESPOLY by Teezab) |
| IMT remark | IMT accepts four credits at one sitting or five at two sittings, and offers the course as Civil Engineering |
Technical Drawing is worth a credit if your school offered it. It is useful in the first semester of any civil engineering diploma and some polytechnics accept it in the UTME.
HND and Direct Entry
The brochure gives no Direct Entry rule for this course, and HND entry does not go through the UTME. Teezab’s HND list for ESPOLY has no civil engineering. NBTE’s January 2026 brochure of approved curricula lists ND and HND Civil Engineering Technology. See our ESPOLY HND guide for the general HND rules.
ESPOLY screening and a worked example
ESPOLY has not published a screening test, fee or timetable for 2026/2027. Applications go through portal.espoly.edu.ng/applicant.php, where ESPOLY posted ND 1 and HND 1 guides on 14 May 2026. Its fees schedule link is empty. The 2021/2022 notice required ESPOLY as first choice, so I would make it your first choice for whichever course you pick there.
Worked example (illustrative)
Emeka scored 156 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His WAEC result from one sitting reads English C6, Mathematics B3, Physics C4, Chemistry C5, Technical Drawing B2. He wanted Civil Engineering Technology at ESPOLY, but the course does not show under ESPOLY on JAMB.
His options with the same result: Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering at ESPOLY, or Civil Engineering Technology at IMT. Using the common 50/50 UTME and O’level method only as an illustration, his UTME half is 156 divided by 8, which is 19.5. Scoring A1 as 10, B2 as 9, B3 as 8, C4 as 7, C5 as 6 and C6 as 5, his five grades give 5 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 9 = 35, an illustrative 54.5 out of 100. Neither ESPOLY nor IMT has published an aggregate formula.
If civil engineering matters most to Emeka, IMT is the move: same subjects, the course is in JAMB’s brochure for IMT, and his one-sitting credits satisfy IMT’s remark.
How to apply (and what to do instead)
- Create your JAMB profile: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use. JAMB replies with a profile code for registration.
- Check the course on JAMB: look for Civil Engineering Technology under Enugu State Polytechnic. If it is missing, choose Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering at ESPOLY, or civil engineering at IMT.
- Write the UTME: aim for 150 or more. Our guide on how to check your JAMB result shows what to do once the score is out.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB accredited centre. If you used two sittings, upload both, and make sure awaiting results are uploaded once they are out.
- Apply on the ESPOLY portal: go to portal.espoly.edu.ng/applicant.php and fill in the form for your chosen course. Pay only the amount the portal generates and keep the receipt.
- Accept on CAPS: when ESPOLY offers you a place, accept it on JAMB CAPS. JAMB’s 2026 rules withdraw an offer that is not accepted within four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows the screens.
- Pay acceptance and register: print your JAMB admission letter, then pay ESPOLY’s acceptance and school fees through the portal. ESPOLY has not published these amounts, so do not pay anyone outside the portal.
JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, so the current cycle runs until that date. To move your choice to ESPOLY, read JAMB change of institution; to switch course, see JAMB change of course.
Warning
Do not pay any fee for a Civil Engineering Technology place at ESPOLY unless the course shows under Enugu State Polytechnic on JAMB and the offer appears on your CAPS page.
Your chances, and the best alternatives
As things stand, your chance of entering ESPOLY Civil Engineering Technology through the UTME depends on JAMB adding the course. The options below use the same UTME subjects:
| Alternative | JAMB position | Note |
|---|---|---|
| IMT Civil Engineering Technology | IMT is named in JAMB’s brochure entry | ND and HND; four credits at one sitting accepted |
| ESPOLY Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology | On JAMB’s list for ESPOLY | Same UTME subjects |
| ESPOLY Computer Engineering | On JAMB’s list for ESPOLY | Same UTME subjects |
| ESUT Civil Engineering (degree) | University route | JAMB’s university minimum for 2026 was 150 |
| UNN Civil Engineering (degree) | University route | Highly competitive |
What you study in Civil Engineering Technology
ESPOLY has published no course outline for civil engineering. The ND follows NBTE’s national Civil Engineering Technology curriculum, and diplomas built on it cover:
- Engineering mathematics, technical drawing and engineering drawing
- Surveying and levelling
- Construction materials, concrete technology and workshop practice
- Strength of materials and theory of structures
- Soil mechanics and geology for engineers
- Hydraulics, water supply and drainage
- Highway engineering, estimating and site management
- SIWES after the first year, then a project
Duration and accreditation
The full-time ND takes two years. An HND takes two more years after the ND and a year of industrial attachment. NBTE’s January 2026 brochure lists ND and HND Civil Engineering Technology as approved national curricula. Whether ESPOLY runs an NBTE-accredited Civil Engineering Technology programme is not confirmed: neither ESPOLY nor NBTE material I could open names one.
Careers
- Site technician or supervisor with building and road contractors
- Assistant to surveyors, resident engineers and quantity surveyors
- Technical officer in state works ministries and water boards
- Laboratory technician in materials and soil testing labs
- HND, then a path to registration as an engineering technologist with COREN, or a degree

Mistakes to avoid
- Trusting a course list on a blog: only the JAMB screen shows whether you can choose the course.
- Paying an agent for a civil engineering place: admission is on CAPS or it is not an admission.
- Dropping Chemistry from the UTME: the general line needs it, and ESPOLY’s listed engineering courses need it too.
- Ignoring the English credit: the brochure requires it even though English also sits in the optional list.
- Missing the four-week CAPS acceptance window.
ESPOLY Civil Engineering Technology cut-off mark: FAQs
Does Enugu State Polytechnic offer Civil Engineering Technology? A July 2026 course list from Teezab, a blog, says it does. The course is not on JAMB’s list for ESPOLY as Myschool reprints it, and it was not among the 17 ND programmes in ESPOLY’s 2021/2022 screening notice, so treat it as unconfirmed until you see it on JAMB.
What is the cut-off mark for Civil Engineering Technology in ESPOLY? ESPOLY has published no figure for it. JAMB’s polytechnic minimum is 100 and ESPOLY’s last general floor was 120 in 2021/2022. If you aim for civil engineering at any polytechnic, I would target 150 or more.
What subjects are needed for Civil Engineering Technology in JAMB? Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. At O’level you need five credits in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and two other subjects, with at least a credit in English Language.
Which course can I choose at ESPOLY instead of Civil Engineering? Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology and Computer Engineering are on JAMB’s list for ESPOLY and use the same UTME subjects. For civil engineering itself, IMT Enugu is the nearest polytechnic with its own line in JAMB’s brochure.
