NBU Hospitality and Tourism Management Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Is It Offered? Requirements and Alternatives

Nigerian British University’s 2026/2027 admission list has no hospitality or tourism course. See what each source says, JAMB’s requirements for the course, NBU’s closest options at 160 and where to study hospitality in Abia.

There is no NBU cut-off mark for Hospitality and Tourism Management for 2027/2028, because Nigerian British University is not admitting into the course. NBU’s 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions page lists 18 programmes with their minimum UTME scores, and no hospitality or tourism degree is among them. The nearest course NBU does list is Business Administration, at 160.

2027/2028 update: NBU’s programme list and cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It comes from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice adds this course or changes anything, we will update this page.

The idea that NBU runs this course comes from older department lists. Wikipedia, citing 2023 directory sites, names two separate units, a Department of Hospitality and a Department of Management and Tourism. A course directory updated in February 2026 does not list any hospitality or tourism course for NBU, and I could not open JAMB’s own course list for the university. On the evidence available, do not register Hospitality and Tourism Management with NBU on JAMB.

Below: what each source says, why registering it is risky, where in Abia you can study hospitality instead, JAMB’s requirements for the course, and how to apply to NBU if you switch.

NBU’s own page is the newest and the only official source here, so I treat it as the answer for 2026/2027. Whether a hospitality programme exists on paper, or will start later, is for NBU to confirm. If you have your heart set on NBU, write to admissions@nbu.edu.ng and ask before you register.

For reference, the full 2026/2027 list on NBU’s page is: Data Science, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication, International Relations & Diplomacy, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Information and Communication Engineering (all 160 and above); Law, Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing Science (180 and above); and MBBS (200 and above).

Why registering it with NBU is risky

NBU’s 2026/2027 page says it only considers candidates whose programme on JAMB CAPS matches the programme they choose on the NBU portal. A course that is not on the portal cannot match, so a good score could still leave you without an offer. The three conditions on the page were:

  • your JAMB CAPS details must match the details on your NBU application;
  • only candidates whose programme on JAMB CAPS matches the programme on the NBU portal are considered;
  • only candidates who upload all the required documents are considered.

If you already registered Hospitality and Tourism Management with NBU, either change your course to one NBU lists (if your subjects fit) or change your institution to a school that runs hospitality. Our JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution guides cover both.

Where to study hospitality in Abia State instead

InstitutionAwardGuide
Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU), UmudikeDegree (Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism)MOUAU Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism cut-off mark
Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (formerly Abia State Polytechnic)National Diploma (Hospitality Management); on JAMB’s list, but confirm it is admittingAbia Poly Hospitality Management cut-off mark

MOUAU’s degree is the nearest university option in the state. A polytechnic National Diploma is a shorter, hands-on route into hotels and catering, and JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics was 100 for 2026/2027 against 150 for universities. Read each guide for the school’s own subject and O’level rules, because they are not the same as the general brochure line below.

Timing differs by school type too. For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the admission deadline for public universities, 30 November 2026 for private universities and 31 December 2026 for polytechnics.

JAMB requirements for Hospitality and Tourism Management

JAMB has a Hospitality and Tourism Management line in the Social and Management Sciences part of its university brochure. These are the general requirements from Myschool’s reprint. The page notes that the course also appears under other faculties at some schools, and none of the remarks names NBU.

RequirementJAMB brochure (general rule)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Geography and any two other Arts or Social Science subjects
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Geography and any three Arts or Social Science subjects, with at least a pass in Mathematics
Direct EntryA-level passes, ND or NCE merit in Science or Social Science subjects or programmes

Geography is the anchor subject. Use of English, Geography, Economics and Government is a sensible set: it fits this line and keeps social science options open if you end up switching course. A science-based combination may fit the version of the course run under an agriculture or home science faculty, so check the school’s own page.

If you would rather stay at NBU: the closest courses

NBU programmeMinimum UTME (2026/2027)Link to hospitality
Business Administration160Management, marketing and human resources, all used in running hotels and travel businesses
Economics160Useful for tourism planning and policy, though less hands-on
Mass Communication160Public relations and marketing roles in hospitality and events

Business Administration is the closest match at NBU. Hospitality skills such as front office, food and beverage service and events can be picked up later through short professional courses or a postgraduate diploma. Check the Business Administration subject line in our NBU guide before you change course, because a Geography-based combination may not fit it.

Safe target score at NBU (my advice)

Your UTME scoreMy read for NBU’s 160 courses
Below 150Not eligible for any Nigerian university. A polytechnic ND may still be open to you.
150 to 159Below NBU’s 160. A university that takes 150 is the better plan.
160 to 174Eligible at NBU if your subjects and O’level fit the course.
175 and aboveComfortable. Aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME.

How to apply to NBU after switching course

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose a course NBU lists, such as Business Administration with Nigerian British University as your institution, using the subjects in the table above. First choice is the cleanest route. If NBU was not your first choice, change your institution to NBU on JAMB before its CAPS cut-off date.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. NBU accepts at most two sittings.
  4. Apply on the NBU portal: use application.nbu.edu.ng, the link on NBU’s admissions page. Pick the same course, the same programme you have on CAPS, and upload every document asked for. The page does not state a form price, so read the amount on the portal itself.
  5. Meet the closing date: for 2026/2027, NBU set 30 November 2026 as its application deadline and as the last day for candidates to move NBU onto their CAPS profile. That matches the 30 November 2026 deadline JAMB set for private universities in the 2026/2027 cycle.
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: NBU’s older fee schedule listed acceptance at ₦40,000. Confirm the current amount with the bursary, pay only through NBU’s official channels, then complete clearance and print your JAMB admission letter.

Confirm before you pay

NBU’s 2026/2027 page does not list Hospitality and Tourism Management. Do not pay anyone who offers you an NBU place in it, and ask the university in writing about any course that is not on its list. Ignore online adverts with private phone numbers selling NBU forms; apply only through application.nbu.edu.ng. JAMB said in May 2026 that any admission done outside CAPS is illegal, so a genuine offer must show on your CAPS page.

Admissions enquiries go to admissions@nbu.edu.ng or +234 706 075 0979 (the number in the footer of NBU’s site). When your status changes, our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means and how to accept.

NBU Management and Social Sciences fees

Fee item (Management and Social Sciences)New studentNotes
Tuition₦900,000Per session
Acceptance₦40,000Paid once on admission
Development₦100,000Per session
Accommodation₦650,000Per session
Other charges₦576,000Exams, medical, ICT, caution fee, sports, library, e-portal, entrepreneurship and one-off items
Total for a new student₦2,266,000Feeding not included

These figures come from NBU’s older fee schedule, which carries a note about a 5% discount for new students in the 2024/2025 session, so treat them as a guide and not as the 2026/2027 bill. Legit.ng reported NBU’s 2026/2027 fees in September 2026 for Computing and IT (₦951,540), Engineering (₦750,000), Law (₦1,218,037), Nursing (₦1,270,037) and Medicine (₦2,743,000), citing NBU’s tuition page, but I found no 2026/2027 figure for Management and Social Sciences. The older schedule allowed payment in three parts (50% at the start of the session, 20% before first-semester exams and 30% at the start of the second semester) and said fees are not refundable. Ask the bursary for the current Management and Social Sciences figure before you budget.

About Nigerian British University

NBU is a private university at Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State, on the Aba to Port Harcourt road. It is owned by the Adorable Foundation for Educational Development, got NUC approval in April 2022 and was commissioned in February 2023. Its 2026/2027 admissions page lists five academic units: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, the College of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering.

I found no NUC accreditation result for any hospitality or tourism programme at NBU, which fits with the course not being on its admission list. If NBU adds the course later, check its NUC status before you accept an offer.

What a hospitality and tourism degree covers

  • Front office, housekeeping and accommodation management
  • Food and beverage production and service
  • Tourism planning, travel agency operations and events management
  • Hospitality marketing, accounting and human resources
  • Industrial training in a hotel or tourism business

This is the usual content of the degree in Nigeria, not an NBU syllabus.

Careers

  • Hotel, resort and restaurant management
  • Travel, tour and airline services
  • Events and conference planning
  • Tourism boards and state tourism agencies

Mistakes hospitality candidates make with NBU

  • Trusting directory lists: many still copy NBU’s 2023 department names.
  • Registering a course NBU is not advertising: your CAPS course must match a course on the NBU portal.
  • Leaving out Geography: JAMB’s Hospitality and Tourism Management line requires it.
  • Planning with 150 at NBU: its management courses need 160.
  • Paying agents: NBU sells forms only on its own portal.

Sources and updates

The programme list, the 160 minimum, the CAPS matching and document conditions, the 30 November 2026 closing date, the portal and the contacts come from NBU’s 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions page. The Hospitality and Tourism Management requirements were checked on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB university brochure; no remark names NBU. The department names come from NBU’s Wikipedia entry (citing 2023 directory sites), and the universitycourses.ng NBU list (updated February 2026) was checked for comparison. The national minimums and 2026/2027 deadlines come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The fee breakdown comes from NBU’s older fee schedule. JAMB’s own course list for NBU could not be opened. Checked on 29 October 2026. I will update this page if NBU adds a hospitality course or publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
