Ibom Metropolitan Poly Computer Engineering Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Computer Engineering Technology is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; no departmental figure is published. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level rules, NBTE status, screening and CAPS steps.

The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Computer Engineering Technology is 100 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics in 2026/2027. Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has not published a separate cut-off for ND Computer Engineering Technology, and I found no departmental figure for any year. The school’s website gives no admission details, so the JAMB floor is the figure to work with.

2027/2028 update: Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a private polytechnic founded in 2014 by Dr Victor E. U. Utong. JAMB’s list places it at Atan Offot, Uyo, and the school describes its site as behind the State Secretariat in Uyo, while NBTE’s 2025 Directory heads its entry “Oruk-Anam”. Computer Engineering Technology is on JAMB’s course list for the school (as “Computer Engineering”), and its line in NBTE’s 2025 Directory reads: Accredited (first granted 2021; 2023 accreditation, expires 1 October 2028), listed as “Computer Engineering”.

JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years running, and Ibom Metropolitan has not announced a higher figure for any course. A polytechnic may set a higher mark for itself or for a busy course, so treat 100 as the legal minimum and aim higher if you can.

Safe target score (my advice)

For 2027 I would aim for 130 or more in the UTME for Computer Engineering Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. That is my own target, based on how small private polytechnics in Akwa Ibom usually fill their classes; the school publishes no merit list or applicant numbers. If you land between 100 and 130 you can still apply, and your O’level grades and screening will carry more weight.

Ibom Metropolitan Poly Computer Engineering Technology subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Computer Engineering Technology
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
My suggested UTME combinationEnglish, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (no alternatives)
O’level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB)Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus two from Biology or Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics or Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Woodwork, Further Mathematics, English Language, Geography and Economics or Commerce. The brochure page also states that a credit in English Language is required
SittingsTwo sittings at most under the standard NBTE rule; the school has not published its own
Ibom Metropolitan Poly remark in the brochureNone found; the base rule applies
Interview or practicalNone published

There is no choice in the UTME: Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you registered with Biology or Economics in place of Chemistry, you do not qualify for this course, and the fix is a change of subjects or a different course before admissions close.

At O’level the core is Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with two more from a technical list that includes Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics, Further Mathematics and English Language. Get English as one of the five, since the brochure page says it is required and the school’s general rule almost certainly asks for it.

Direct Entry and HND

ND entry is through the UTME; there is no Direct Entry route into ND1. After the ND and industrial attachment you can apply for HND Computer Engineering Technology. COREN keeps registers for engineering technicians and technologists, so ask COREN which grade your certificate qualifies for. NBTE lists HND Computer Engineering Technology at the school, but its interim approval expired on 1 October 2026, so ask about renewal.

Ibom Metropolitan Poly screening and how selection works

Ibom Metropolitan has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice, form price or test format that I could find, and its website carries no admission page. Private polytechnics of its size usually sell forms at the admissions office or on a portal, check documents, and may hold a short test or interview. Ask the office these questions:

  • Is ND Computer Engineering Technology admitting full-time students for 2027/2028, and is it listed for the school on JAMB CAPS?
  • What is the current NBTE accreditation status of the course?
  • How much is the form, where do I pay, and what is the closing date?
  • Is there a written test, and on which subjects?
  • What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and is there a hostel?

Worked example (illustrative)

Take Uduak, who wants Computer Engineering Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. Uduak scored 134 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and has English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing and Biology in one WAEC sitting.

  1. JAMB minimum: 134 is 34 above 100, so Uduak is eligible.
  2. My safe target: 134 clears my 130 line for Computer Engineering Technology.
  3. UTME subjects: The four subjects are exactly the brochure line.
  4. O’level: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are credits, with English and Technical Drawing as the other two.
  5. School listing: before paying for anything, Uduak checks that Ibom Metropolitan Poly shows Computer Engineering Technology on the JAMB portal.

If the school used a 50:50 aggregate, 134 divided by 8 gives 16.75 out of 50, and 30 out of 50 at screening would bring the total to 46.75. That formula is only an illustration. Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published one, and small private polytechnics often admit every candidate who meets the rules.

How to apply for Computer Engineering Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Poly, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: use English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and choose Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Atan Offot as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
  3. Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
  4. Contact the school: visit Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic in Uyo or use the contacts on its website, confirm the course is admitting, and buy the form only from the school. Keep every receipt.
  5. Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.

Warning

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a different school from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua. Check the name on your JAMB registration, buy forms only from the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.

Your chances and my advice

  • You can pick Computer Engineering Technology under Ibom Metropolitan when you register, which removes the biggest risk with small private polytechnics.
  • NBTE accreditation runs to 1 October 2028, which covers a two-year ND that starts in 2027/2028.
  • The school advertises a City and Guilds affiliation under the slogan “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications”. Ask what the extra certificate costs and whether it is optional.
  • Living in Uyo costs more than in smaller towns, so price rent and transport into your plan if you are not from the city.
  • JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should keep checking CAPS until then.

What you study in ND Computer Engineering Technology

ND Computer Engineering Technology takes two years with a SIWES placement. It sits between electronics and computing: you learn how computer hardware works, how to build and repair digital circuits, and how to set up and maintain networks. There is a lot of workshop and laboratory time.

Accreditation

NBTE’s 25th Edition Directory of Accredited Programmes (2025) lists ND Computer Engineering Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic as: Accredited (first granted 2021; 2023 accreditation, expires 1 October 2028), listed as “Computer Engineering”. The school says on its website that it received NBTE accreditation in 2021 and held its first matriculation on 22 April 2022. NBTE lists HND Computer Engineering Technology at the school, but its interim approval expired on 1 October 2026, so ask about renewal.
