The IMT Glass and Ceramics Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a departmental figure for the course, so 100 is the official floor. For this small, specialised course, the subject rule is a bigger hurdle than the score.
2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Glass and Ceramics Technology is on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure (as “Glass / Ceramics Technology”). Although JAMB files it with the arts, IMT’s own 2024 admission notice placed it in the School of Technology, beside Food Technology and Statistics, and the UTME rule is science-heavy: Mathematics and Physics, plus Fine Art or Chemistry. IMT last advertised the course officially in March 2024. I found no 2026/2027 IMT notice naming it, so confirm with IMT that it is taking new ND students before you pay for anything.
Further down are the 120 IMT used in 2024, my safe target, the UTME and O’level rules, IMT’s screening method, worked examples and the CAPS steps.

IMT cut-off mark history for Glass and Ceramics Technology
IMT does not publish a separate cut-off mark for each ND course. What exists is the national floor JAMB sets for every polytechnic, and one threshold IMT itself used in 2024.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025) |
| 2023/2024 | 120 | IMT’s threshold for its advertised courses round, which listed Glass and Ceramics Technology | Official IMT Registrar notices, March 2024 |
The 120 comes from two notices the IMT Registrar posted on imt.edu.ng in March 2024. They invited candidates from the 2023/2024 UTME who had scored 120 or more and had not yet been admitted to apply for courses that still had places. Glass and Ceramics Technology was on that list under the School of Technology. No 2026/2027 IMT notice that I could open repeats the 120 or names the course, so treat JAMB’s 100 as the floor, aim for 120 or more, and confirm the course is open.
Safe target score for Glass and Ceramics at IMT (my advice)
IMT has never published a score band for this course. The bands below are my judgement, based on how small technology courses fill at state polytechnics and on IMT’s 2024 notice, which offered spare places in the course to candidates with 120 or more. Use them for planning only.
| Your UTME score | My read for Glass and Ceramics at IMT |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included |
| 100 to 114 | Eligible to apply; the right subjects and credits decide it |
| 115 to 129 | Possible to competitive |
| 130 and above | Strong for Glass and Ceramics at IMT |
Very few candidates choose Glass and Ceramics Technology as a first choice, and the 2024 notice suggests the course had room after the main round. In my reading, a candidate with the right subjects and about 120 has a fair chance. I would still aim for 120 or more in the 2027 UTME, because a higher score also keeps a change of course to Science Laboratory Technology or an engineering course open.
Catchment and state of origin
IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses. Your UTME score, the core O’level credits and getting your documents in early count for more than your state of origin.
IMT Glass and Ceramics Technology subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | Glass and Ceramics Technology (ND) at IMT |
|---|---|
| General UTME rule | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and Fine Art or Chemistry |
| IMT remark (UTME) | None in the brochure |
| Combinations that fit IMT | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry; or English, Mathematics, Physics, Fine Art |
| General O’level rule | Five credits in Biology or Agricultural Science or Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus two from Biology or Agricultural Science, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical or Engineering Drawing, Fine Art, Economics, Basic Electricity, Geography, Further Mathematics |
| English Language | A pass is listed for this course |
| IMT remark (O’level) | None in the brochure |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE), at most two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Not used for ND |
Read the O’level rule carefully. Physics and Chemistry are fixed credits. The third fixed credit can be Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science. Then you need two more credits from the list. So even if you register Fine Art in the UTME, you still need an O’level credit in Chemistry.
The brochure asks only for a pass in English for this course, and it does not make Mathematics a compulsory O’level credit. I would not rely on either gap. Most of the other IMT courses in the brochure make an English credit compulsory, IMT has published nothing that relaxes it for this course, and a Mathematics credit is the natural way to fill your third fixed slot anyway.
A note on the source: Myschool’s polytechnic copy of this brochure page did not load when I checked it on 29 October 2026, so the rule above is from Myschool’s copy of the same “Glass / Ceramics Technology” entry in the monotechnic section, which matches its separate Ceramics Technology entry. Check the IMT entry on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register.
HND after the ND
Glass and Ceramics does not appear on the reprinted IMT HND list I found, and IMT has not published an HND for it. If you want to go beyond ND in this field, ask the department before you enrol. IMT’s general HND rule (2019/2020 notice) was a relevant ND with a CGPA of at least 2.50, or lower with two years of verifiable industrial attachment. Our IMT HND admission requirements guide covers it.
How IMT screens ND Glass and Ceramics candidates
IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. I could not open the 2026/2027 call itself, so the newest confirmed details on how IMT screens ND candidates come from its official 2023/2024 notices. Those notices said IMT would hold no post-UTME examination for its diploma programmes that session and would admit on verified JAMB scores plus O’level results uploaded to CAPS.
| Detail | What we know | Status |

Worked examples for Glass and Ceramics applicants
IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. These examples measure the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then check the subjects against the brochure.
Take Kelechi, who scored 118 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His NECO result (one sitting) has C6 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C6 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry, C4 in Technical Drawing and C6 in Geography.
- Eligibility: 118 minus 100 = 18. He is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
- Against my safe target: 118 minus 120 = minus 2. He is just under it, in the possible band.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry match the general rule exactly.
- O’level: Physics and Chemistry are fixed; Mathematics fills the third fixed slot; Technical Drawing and Geography are the two extra credits. English is a credit, above the pass the brochure lists.
- What I would advise: first confirm the course is admitting, then apply early. A small course with few applicants is where a score near 120 has its best chance.
Ifeoma scored 136 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Fine Art, which fits the UTME rule. Her O’level has credits in Mathematics, Physics, Fine Art, Biology and English, but only a D7 in Chemistry. That gap blocks her, because Chemistry is a fixed O’level credit for this course even when Fine Art is the UTME subject. She should resit Chemistry in the NECO or WAEC GCE before IMT screens, and upload the new result to CAPS.
How to apply for Glass and Ceramics at IMT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Confirm the course on IMT’s list: Glass / Ceramics Technology is on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. Open the IMT Enugu entry on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register and check it still shows.
- Register for the UTME: Choose Glass / Ceramics Technology under IMT Enugu, register English, Mathematics, Physics and either Chemistry or Fine Art, and pick IMT as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT closes its form, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. IMT’s 2023/2024 notices made this upload part of the admission decision, and no school can recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Fill IMT’s application form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, open portal.imt.edu.ng, click Apply, fill the form, choose Interswitch to generate an invoice, pay and print the acknowledgement slip. Use an email address and phone number you check daily.
- Check your status: use the admission checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
- Accept within four weeks: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the IMT portal.
Warning
Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Glass and Ceramics slot” or a place on a special list is outside the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.
Your chances of getting Glass and Ceramics at IMT
Your odds depend on three things: whether IMT is admitting into the course this session, whether your subjects fit, and your score. The first is the one most applicants forget. IMT’s official notices named the course in 2024, and it is still on JAMB’s list for IMT, but I could not find a newer IMT notice that names it. Ask before you commit your UTME choice.
If the course is open, competition is light. IMT’s 2024 advertised courses notice listed it among courses with places still open after the main round. A candidate with the right subjects and a score from 115 upward has a fair chance in my view. It is not on IMT’s part-time list, so plan for the full-time ND.
Studying Glass and Ceramics Technology at IMT Enugu
Glass and Ceramics Technology trains technicians for industries that turn clay, sand and minerals into finished products: tiles, sanitary ware, tableware, bricks, glass containers and art pottery. It mixes materials science with design, which explains the Physics, Chemistry and Fine Art in the entry rules.
What you study
IMT has not put its course outline online, so the list below describes what ND glass and ceramics programmes generally cover in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.
- Raw materials: clays, feldspar, silica sand and how to test them.
- Forming methods: throwing on the wheel, moulding, slip casting and pressing.
- Kilns and firing: kiln types, firing schedules and fuel.
- Glazes and colours: glaze chemistry, mixing and application.
- Glass technology: batch preparation, melting and forming glass.
- Design and drawing: product design and technical drawing.
- Practical work: studio and workshop production and a SIWES placement.
Accreditation
At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Glass and Ceramics Technology at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. There is no separate licensing council for ceramics technicians in Nigeria. Ask the department to show the current accreditation letter during clearance if this matters to you.

Mistakes that cost Glass and Ceramics applicants an IMT place
- Not confirming the course is open: ask IMT before you make it your choice.
- Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
- Biology or Economics as a UTME subject: only Fine Art or Chemistry fill the fourth slot.
- No Chemistry credit at O’level: it is fixed even when your UTME subject is Fine Art.
- No O’level upload on CAPS: IMT’s 2023/2024 notices admitted on JAMB score and uploaded O’level together.
IMT Glass and Ceramics Technology cut off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the IMT cut off mark for Glass and Ceramics Technology? It is 100, JAMB’s 2026 minimum for polytechnics. IMT has not published a separate figure for the course, so I would aim for 120 or more.

Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics in 2026, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline for the 2026/2027 cycle and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics and Channels TV (8 July 2025). The UTME subjects, the O’level list and any IMT remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Glass and Ceramics Technology (the polytechnic copy did not load when checked), and the course’s place on IMT’s list from Myschool’s IMT Enugu course list, both checked on 29 October 2026. The 120 threshold, the ₦2,000 form fee, the payment channels, the 2024 list of advertised courses and the no post-UTME rule for 2023/2024 are from IMT Registrar notices on imt.edu.ng dated 4 March 2024 and 22 March 2024. The HND entry rule is from IMT’s 2019/2020 HND notice. The part-time list is from IMT’s part-time programmes page. The accreditation remarks are from BusinessDay (13 June 2026). The ₦25,000 acceptance fee is from blogs and is unofficial, and the safe target scores are my advice. This page will be updated when IMT publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
