Clifford University Cut-Off Mark for Nursing Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Clifford University’s cut-off for Nursing Science is the 150 it states for all courses, but Nursing is its most competitive course. See the safe target score, subjects, O’level, Direct Entry, the Nursing CBT, NMCN status and fees.

The Clifford University cut-off mark for Nursing Science is 150 in the UTME. That is the general cut-off Clifford University, Owerrinta states on its 2026/2027 admission notice, and it matches JAMB’s national minimum for universities. Clifford has not published a separate Nursing figure, so 150 is the official floor. In practice Nursing fills faster than any other Clifford course, and the department has run its own screening test, so I would not apply with a bare 150.

2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Below you will find the official position, a safe target score (clearly marked as my advice), the subject combination checked against both JAMB’s brochure and Clifford’s own page, Direct Entry, the Nursing screening test Clifford has used before, the 2026/2027 fees, NMCN approval and the CAPS steps.

This page is about Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and candidates come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. Nursing sits in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

An admissions blog wrote in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates with 130 and above, including those who did not pick it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, cites no Clifford notice, and sits below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so do not plan around 130. News Central printed the full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote either.

Safe target score for Nursing at Clifford (my advice)

Nursing is the course most Clifford applicants want, and the department has a limited number of places because the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) controls how many students an approved school can take. Clifford does not publish its quota or the lowest score it admitted. The bands below are my reading as an admissions adviser, not a Clifford figure.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Clifford Nursing
Below 150Not eligible for any Clifford degree course
150 to 179Eligible, but you are relying on the screening test and an early application
180 to 209Good chance if your five science credits are in place
210 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 200 or more. That score also keeps Nursing open at the state universities in the South East if Clifford is one of several options for you.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Nursing

RequirementWhat appliesSource

UTME subjects (JAMB)Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and BiologyJAMB brochure (Myschool reprint)
UTME subjects (Clifford)Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with EnglishClifford requirements page

Clifford’s O’level ruleFive credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and ChemistryClifford requirements page
SittingsNot more than twoClifford requirements page
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE) or equivalentClifford requirements page

JAMB and Clifford agree completely here, so there is nothing to choose. All four UTME subjects are fixed: Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Mathematics is not a UTME subject for Nursing, but it is one of the five O’level credits, so a pass in Mathematics will stop you.

Physics is where most Nursing applicants get caught. Many students who love Biology take Physics lightly and finish with a D7 or E8. If that is you, sit NECO or the WAEC GCE and combine the two results; Clifford accepts two sittings, not three. JAMB’s brochure entry for Nursing has remarks for about twenty universities and none for Clifford, so JAMB’s general rule and Clifford’s own page are the two things you must satisfy.

Direct Entry into Nursing at Clifford

Clifford’s requirements page gives one Direct Entry route for Nursing: two A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry or Biology, and Direct Entry candidates must also meet the UTME O’level requirements (the five science credits above). JAMB’s general Direct Entry text is wider. It lists A-level passes in two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and a route for holders of the Registered Nurse certificate with five O’level credits.

Clifford’s page does not mention the Registered Nurse route, ND or HND. If you are already a registered nurse looking for a degree, call the admissions office before you register for Direct Entry and ask whether Clifford takes RN holders and at what level.

Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page sets three general rules: Direct Entry students start at 200 level, they must present a complete transcript or statement of result before admission, and all of them write a university screening test unless they hold JUPEB. Clifford runs its own JUPEB (Foundation) programme, which is one way into 200 level if you have no A-levels.

Clifford Nursing screening test

Clifford has not published a 2026/2027 or 2027/2028 screening notice for Nursing in any source I reached. What it has published is the Nursing screening notice for the 2023/2024 session, which shows how the department selects candidates. The dates have passed, but the format is the best guide available.

VenueClifford University ICT
ModeComputer-based test (CBT)
SubjectsO’level Biology, Physics and Chemistry

Other stepsBursary receipt for the payment and a Commitment Form completed at the Registry
Missed testNo second test for any candidate who misses it

The Nursing test was set on O’level Biology, Physics and Chemistry, so revise your SS1 to SS3 science notes, not only JAMB past questions. There was no make-up date either, so once Clifford announces the test, plan travel to Ihie early. Direct Entry candidates also write a screening test unless they hold JUPEB.

An admissions blog said in October 2025 that the general Clifford form was free and that an aptitude test date would be announced later. Clifford’s own site does not say that, so confirm the form price with the admissions office before you pay anyone.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Clifford publishes no aggregate formula and no pass mark for the Nursing test. The example below uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage) only to show how a strong test can make up for a modest UTME score. It is my illustration, not Clifford’s method.

  1. Adaeze: UTME 212, credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at one sitting, 58% in the CBT. 212 divided by 8 is 26.5; half of 58 is 29. Her illustrative aggregate is 55.5.
  2. Chinedu: UTME 184 (23) and 80% in the CBT (40). His aggregate is 63, ahead of Adaeze with 28 fewer UTME marks.
  3. Kelechi: UTME 231, but a D7 in Physics. Clifford lists Physics among the five credits, so his score cannot carry him until he fixes the result.
  4. Ifeoma: UTME 176 and awaiting her NECO result. She cannot be recommended on CAPS until the result is out and uploaded.

Clifford University Nursing Science school fees and acceptance fee

Clifford posts its fees by programme on its website under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. The programme figures are labelled only “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers. Hostel, feeding and medical charges are not listed on that page.

ItemAmount (2026/2027)Who pays
Acceptance feeN150,000New students, once
Matriculation feeN50,000100 level only
Nursing Science programme amountN1,740,000Each session
Medical Laboratory ScienceN1,560,000For comparison
Public Health and Environmental Health ScienceN1,293,500 eachFor comparison
Faculty of Science coursesN845,000For comparison

On 2026/2027 figures, a 100-level Nursing Science student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,940,000 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. Clifford allows full payment or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a forwarded message. Nursing is the most expensive undergraduate course on the 2026/2027 list, level with Law.

How to apply for Nursing Science at Clifford, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Nursing / Nursing Science with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Pick Clifford University as your institution. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot recommend you on CAPS without it, and awaiting-result candidates must upload as soon as the result is out.
  4. Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the Apply Now button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create an account, choose Nursing Science, complete the form and keep your printout.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Nursing Science candidates will be screened.
  6. Sit the Nursing CBT: if Clifford sets a Nursing test as it did in 2023, write it on the announced day, because the 2023 notice allowed no second sitting.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.

Warning

Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.

Studying Nursing Science at Clifford University

Nursing is a five-year B.N.Sc. in Nigeria, including clinical postings. Clifford’s requirements page does not state the duration, so take five years as the norm and confirm with the department. Clifford’s library system includes a separate Nursing Library with about 795 items and seats for 64, according to the university’s library page.

Is Clifford Nursing approved by NMCN?

Yes, provisionally. The NMCN list of approved schools dated December 2025 shows the Department of Nursing Sciences, Clifford University, Owerrinta with provisional approval from July 2023. NMCN grants full approval for five years and provisional approval for two, so a July 2023 provisional status should have been reviewed by now. Ask the department whether NMCN has re-inspected and what the current status is, and check the newest NMCN list yourself before you pay fees. NMCN approval is what lets graduates sit the licensing examination and be inducted.

Clifford has already produced nurses. Myschool reported Clifford’s first induction ceremony for newly qualified nurses on 18 September 2024, and an AllAfrica report on the fifth convocation in October 2024 listed nine first-class graduates in Nursing. I could not find an NUC accreditation result for Clifford Nursing; ask about that too.

What you study

  • Basic sciences: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and introductory sciences in the early years.
  • Core nursing: fundamentals of nursing, medical surgical nursing, and maternal and child health.
  • Community and mental health: community health nursing and mental health nursing.
  • Clinical practice: ward and community postings in every clinical year.
  • Final year: a research project and preparation for the NMCN licensing examination.

Graduates work as registered nurses in hospitals, primary health care, schools, industry and the armed forces, and many go on to midwifery, public health or postgraduate nursing. Nursing is also one of the most portable Nigerian degrees for work abroad, provided the school is NMCN-approved and you pass the licensing examination.

If Nursing does not work out this year, Public Health and Environmental Health Science use the same UTME subjects and the same five O’level credits, so you can switch to them on JAMB without retaking anything.

Mistakes Nursing applicants make

  • Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered for any Clifford course.
  • Ignoring Physics in O’level: Nursing needs a Physics credit as well as Chemistry and Biology.
  • Missing the screening day: the 2023 notice said there would be no second test.
  • Leaving Clifford off your JAMB choices: Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS until it is one of your institutions.
  • Not asking about NMCN status: provisional approval should be reviewed, so ask before you pay.

Writing the UTME next year? Read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and work through the JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus. If you already have a score, see what to do with your JAMB result, and if you registered a different course, our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch.

Clifford’s UTME subjects, O’level list, two-sitting rule and Direct Entry rule for Nursing come from its undergraduate admission requirements page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). JAMB’s UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for Nursing / Nursing Science, which carries no Clifford remark, and Myschool’s list of Clifford’s JAMB courses shows the course under that name. The 2023/2024 screening details come from Clifford’s notice “Screening Test for Nursing Science Admission in 2023/2024 Session”. NMCN approval is from the NMCN list of approved schools dated December 2025. The general cut-off of 150, admission routes, portal and phone lines are from the Clifford University homepage, which also carries the May 2024 impostor warning. Fees and the 60/40 option are from Clifford’s approved fees page for 2026/2027. The Direct Entry screening rule is from Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page, and the Nursing Library figures from its University Library page. The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs from that meeting does not include Clifford. The induction date is from Myschool (2 September 2024) and the convocation figures from AllAfrica (October 2024). The safe target score, subject advice and worked example are my own guidance.
