The Temple Gate Poly Pharmaceutical Technology cut off mark you can plan with is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Temple Gate Polytechnic, Aba has not published a separate mark for the ND in any year I could find. JAMB’s course list for the school does include Pharmaceutical Technology, and the JAMB brochure sets the UTME subjects as Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics or Biology. Before you choose this course, read the section below on the 2024 changes to pharmacy training in polytechnics.
2027/2028 update: Temple Gate Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Temple Gate Polytechnic is a private polytechnic at Abayi, Osisioma, on the Aba side of Abia State. NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists it at P.O. Box 3448, Aba, as a private institution approved by government in 2009. On Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s course list it appears as Temple-gate Polytechnic, and Pharmaceutical Technology sits there under the medical, pharmaceutical and health sciences group.
Temple Gate Poly Pharmaceutical Technology cut off mark at a glance
| Item | Position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics | 100 | Official, 2026/2027 |
| Temple Gate cut-off for Pharmaceutical Technology | Not published | No school figure found for any year |
| Course on JAMB’s list for the school | Yes, as Pharmaceutical Technology | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list, checked 29 October 2026 |
| Level | National Diploma (ND) | Entry through the UTME and CAPS |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics or Biology | JAMB polytechnic brochure; no Temple Gate remark |
| O’level credits | English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science | JAMB polytechnic brochure |
| Programme approval by NBTE and the pharmacy regulator | Not confirmed | Ask the school for both letters |
| JAMB deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, reported by NAN) |
The course is on JAMB’s list for Temple Gate, but I found no admission notice from the school naming it. An older schoolings.org list of Temple Gate’s courses, last changed in 2020, leaves Pharmaceutical Technology out, and so does the only fee list I found online. Put those together and the safest reading is that the course may be newer than those pages, or may not be admitting. Confirm with the admissions office before you buy a form.
Pharmaceutical Technology cut-off history at Temple Gate Poly
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Temple Gate figure for Pharmaceutical Technology | No published figure in any source I found |
A schoolings.org page on Temple Gate’s admission rules says candidates must score at least 100, which matches JAMB’s floor. That page is a blog, and it even names a different polytechnic in one paragraph, so I treat it as a copy of JAMB’s rule and nothing more.
Safe target score for Pharmaceutical Technology at Temple Gate (my advice)
These bands are my own judgement. Temple Gate publishes no merit lists or applicant numbers. Health courses tend to draw more applicants than business courses at the same school, so I set the bar a little higher here.
| Your UTME score | My read for ND Pharmaceutical Technology at Temple Gate |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for ND admission through JAMB this session |
| 100 to 119 | Eligible; possible if the course is admitting and all five science credits are in place |
| 120 to 139 | Good chance |
| 140 and above | Strong. This is where I would aim. |
For 2027 I would aim for 140 or more. A good Chemistry score matters beyond the cut-off, because pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry and drug analysis all build on it from the first semester.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Pharmaceutical Technology at Temple Gate
| Requirement | ND Pharmaceutical Technology |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics or Biology |
| Temple Gate remark on the brochure | None, so the base rule applies |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or Agricultural Science |
| Sittings | Not more than two (schoolings.org page on Temple Gate, unofficial) |
| Minimum age | 16 in the year of admission (schoolings.org page on Temple Gate, unofficial) |
| Direct Entry | Not applicable for ND; the brochure’s Direct Entry section is blank |
The brochure lists Mathematics and Chemistry as fixed UTME subjects, then Physics or Biology for the last slot. Biology is the better pick if your aim is pharmacy work, since pharmacology and the microbiology parts of the course lean on it. Physics is fine if it is your stronger subject. Use of English is compulsory for every UTME candidate.
For O’level, the brochure asks for English plus credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Agricultural Science. That leaves no free slot: all five are required. The only remark on the page is for MAPOLY in Abeokuta, which has its own sitting rule and does not accept Agricultural Science in place of Biology. Nothing on the page names Temple Gate.
Older blog posts on this course give a UTME combination of English, Chemistry, Biology and one of Physics or Mathematics. The brochure entry makes Mathematics compulsory, so do not drop it. Revise with the JAMB Chemistry syllabus and the JAMB Biology syllabus if Biology is your fourth subject.
What changed for Pharmaceutical Technology in polytechnics in 2024
In April 2024 the Federal Ministry of Education announced an agreement between NBTE and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN). The ministry’s write-up speaks of phasing out Pharmacy Technology programmes in polytechnics, lets current students finish, and says HND holders cannot practise as pharmacists.
ThisDay’s report of 14 August 2024 gives more detail from the NBTE circular. It says NBTE stopped fresh admissions into the HND in Pharmaceutical Technology, and that it would keep approving and accrediting the National Diploma. Six plaintiffs then sued NBTE and PCN at the Federal High Court in Abuja over the scrapping, and the judge asked the minister, NBTE and PCN to show cause. I did not find the final outcome of that case.
- ND: NBTE said it would keep approving it, according to ThisDay. That is the level JAMB lists for Temple Gate.
- HND: no fresh admissions from April 2024, according to the same report. Do not plan on an HND in this course at any polytechnic unless the rule changes.
- Practice: pharmacy technicians in Nigeria are regulated by PCN, which accredits their training programmes and runs their professional examination. Whether an ND from a particular polytechnic leads to PCN registration is something to confirm with PCN and the school.
My advice: ask Temple Gate in writing whether the course is admitting for 2027/2028, whether NBTE has approved it, and which PCN qualification, if any, the ND leads to. If you want to dispense medicines for a living, compare it with a pharmacy technician programme at a college of health technology, and with a Pharmacy degree if your scores allow.
How Temple Gate Poly screening works
Temple Gate has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice that I could find, and the website address listed on Wikipedia is marked as dead. A schoolings.org page on the school, last updated in 2020, gives the only published conditions:
- At least 16 years old in the year of admission.
- Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.
- A UTME score that meets JAMB’s current minimum.
- Internal screening by the polytechnic for those who qualify.
No dates, fees or test format are given. If there is a written test, expect SSCE-level Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English. Ask whether there is an oral interview too, and be ready to say why you chose the course.
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Chiamaka, who scored 146 in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. Her NECO result has credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology from one sitting.
- JAMB minimum: 146 minus 100 is 46, so she clears the polytechnic floor.
- My safe target: 146 is 6 above my 140 line, in the strong band.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology match the brochure, with Biology filling the Physics or Biology slot.
- O’level: all five required credits are there, including Physics, which many Biology candidates forget.
As an illustration of how an aggregate could work: 146 divided by 8 is 18.25 out of 50. With 30 out of 50 at screening, she would have 48.25 out of 100. Temple Gate has published no formula, and a small private polytechnic may simply admit every eligible applicant who completes the process.
What Temple Gate Poly is reported to charge
Temple Gate has not published a fee schedule I could reach. An o3schools blog post dated 26 January 2026 lists fees for the business, communication and science schools, but Pharmaceutical Technology is not on it. The general items it gives are below. Treat them as a rough guide only.
| Item | Amount claimed by the blog (unofficial) |
|---|---|
| Admission form (ND) | ₦5,000 |
| Acceptance fee (ND) | ₦15,000 |
| ND tuition for Pharmaceutical Technology | Not listed |
The same post says fees are not refundable. Health courses also come with costs for laboratory coats, practical manuals and clinical or industrial placement, so get the full figure for this department from the bursary in writing.
How to apply for Pharmaceutical Technology at Temple Gate Poly, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Pharmaceutical Technology with Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics or Biology, and pick Temple-gate Polytechnic as your polytechnic. If you already chose another school, use JAMB change of institution before screening starts.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot match you to the course without it.
- Confirm the course with the school: visit or call the admissions office in Aba, ask whether Pharmaceutical Technology is admitting, the form price, closing date and screening date, and keep every receipt.
- Attend screening with your documents: UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or declaration of age, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the acceptance fee and school fees from the bursary in writing, pay through the channel the school names, then complete medical and departmental registration.
Warning
Do not pay tuition for Pharmaceutical Technology until the school shows you its NBTE approval for the course and tells you, in writing, what PCN recognition the ND carries. JAMB says admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so any agent selling a reserved place has nothing to offer you.
Your chances of admission into Pharmaceutical Technology at Temple Gate
- The most common reason applicants fail is a missing O’level credit in Physics or Biology. The brochure needs both.
- With 120 or more and all five credits, I would rate your chances as good, provided the department confirms an intake.
- Science Laboratory Technology at Temple Gate is the closest science option on JAMB’s list if this course is not admitting, but its UTME rule is different, so check the brochure before switching.
- JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should keep checking CAPS until then.
What you study in ND Pharmaceutical Technology
Temple Gate has not published its curriculum, so this is the general content of the ND as Nigerian polytechnics teach it.
- General and pharmaceutical chemistry, including organic chemistry of drugs.
- Pharmaceutics: how tablets, syrups, creams and injections are made and stored.
- Basic pharmacology and the actions of common drug groups.
- Pharmacognosy: medicines from plants.
- Microbiology, quality control and drug analysis in the laboratory.
- Human anatomy and physiology, and health statistics.
- SIWES placement in a pharmaceutical company, hospital pharmacy or community pharmacy.
Duration and accreditation
NBTE’s standard ND takes two years full-time with SIWES built in. Temple Gate has not confirmed its own timetable. NBTE’s 2020 directory lists the school as a private polytechnic approved in 2009, but the programme tables were not readable, so accreditation of this course at Temple Gate is not confirmed. PCN approval for the school is not confirmed either.
Careers
- Production or quality control assistant in a drug or cosmetics factory
- Sales or distribution staff for a pharmaceutical company
- Laboratory work in schools and testing laboratories
- Further study: a degree in Pharmacy or a related science, subject to that university’s own entry rules
Working as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or patent medicine business depends on PCN rules, which is why I keep saying to check PCN recognition first.

Mistakes Pharmaceutical Technology applicants make
- Dropping Mathematics in the UTME: the brochure makes it compulsory, along with Chemistry.
- Skipping Physics at O’level: it is one of the five required credits, even if you take Biology in the UTME.
- Planning on an HND in the same course: fresh HND admissions were stopped in 2024.
- Assuming the ND makes you a pharmacist: only a Pharmacy degree and PCN registration do that.
- Uploading O’level late: CAPS cannot place you until the result is there.
