CCU Teacher Education Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Teacher Education Science is on JAMB’s Coal City University list, but CCU’s own Education programme list and NUC records do not include it. See the 150 minimum, JAMB subjects, what to do and science education alternatives.

Teacher Education Science is on JAMB’s course list for Coal City University, Enugu, but CCU’s own Faculty of Education page does not list it and the NUC has no accreditation record for it at CCU. If CCU does admit into it, the cut-off would be 150 in the UTME, JAMB’s minimum for every university in 2026/2027, because CCU has published no departmental figure. I would not register it as your CCU course unless the university confirms in writing that it is taking students.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

If you want to teach science, CCU has two accredited options in its Department of Science and Computer Education: Education and Biology, and Education and Computer Science. Below are the official checks, what to do if you already registered Teacher Education Science, the subject rule that would apply, and science education alternatives at CCU and elsewhere in Enugu.

Every one of the nine Education programmes that has an NUC row at CCU is also named on the faculty page. Teacher Education Science has neither. JAMB lists also carry Education and Chemistry, Education and Physics, Education and Mathematics and Education and Integrated Science for CCU, and those have no NUC row or faculty-page entry either. Treat all of them as courses to confirm before you register.

Subject combination for Teacher Education Science

The JAMB brochure page for Teacher Education Science (Myschool reprint, checked 30 October 2026) has no CCU remark. Its general UTME line is clear. The rest of the page looks mixed up with another course: its O’level line mentions Statistics, and most university remarks refer to Literature in English, which belongs to English Education.

RequirementWhat the brochure page showsMy reading
JAMB course nameTeacher Education ScienceUse this name only if CCU confirms the course
UTME subjectsMathematics and any two other science subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, and two of Biology, Chemistry and Physics
O’levelFive credits to include Statistics and MathematicsLikely a data error; plan for five credits including English, Mathematics and your science subjects
Direct EntryA-level passes or NCE including Statistics or MathematicsTwo science A-levels or an NCE in science subjects, to be confirmed with CCU

What to do if you already registered Teacher Education Science at CCU

  1. Ask CCU in writing: contact the admissions office through ccu.edu.ng and ask whether Teacher Education Science is admitting for your session.
  2. If CCU says no: switch to Education and Biology or Education and Computer Science with a JAMB change of course. Check the subject rules in our guide to each course before you change, since the brochure lines differ.
  3. If you want Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics education: UNN and ESUT run them; a JAMB change of institution moves your first choice.
  4. Only trust CAPS: an offer counts when it shows on your JAMB CAPS page.

The NCE route without a UTME score

JAMB’s 11 May 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates with at least four O’level credits from the UTME; they register with JAMB and are admitted through CAPS. Nairametrics reported the change as taking effect from the 2027 cycle, while JAMB’s June 2026 NCE guide and Legit (23 July 2026) show it already applied in 2026. Either way, 2027/2028 NCE candidates do not sit the UTME. JAMB’s guide lists ₦1,500 (one sitting) or ₦2,000 (two) for O’level verification and ₦3,500 plus ₦700 for the NCE application. An NCE in science subjects can later take you into a B.Ed. or B.Sc.(Ed.) through Direct Entry.

Safe target score for science education (my advice)

Your UTME scoreMy read
Below 150Not eligible for any university; consider the NCE route
150 to 159Eligible for CCU Education and Biology or Computer Science
160 to 179Also meets UNN’s and ESUT’s 160 lines
180 and aboveStrong at any of the options above

Worked example

Obinna scored 171 with Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and registered Teacher Education Science at CCU. His WAEC shows credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 171 minus 150 = 21 marks above the minimum.
  2. Course check: he writes to CCU asking whether Teacher Education Science is admitting.
  3. If no: Education and Biology at CCU suits his Biology and Chemistry, and he changes his course before CCU begins admitting.
  4. If he wants Chemistry teaching: 171 clears ESUT’s and UNN’s 160, so ESUT Education Chemistry or UNN Science Education are realistic.

How to confirm and apply at CCU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Confirm the course: ask CCU’s admissions office whether Teacher Education Science is admitting, and keep the reply.
  3. Register a course CCU runs: if it is not confirmed, register Education and Biology or Education and Computer Science with Use of English plus three science subjects that include Mathematics or Biology as needed.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: CCU cannot recommend you without it.
  5. Apply on portal.ccu.edu.ng: pay the fee the portal shows. AbsTechConnect gave ₦2,000 for 2026/2027; CCU has not confirmed it in any notice I could open.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window.
  7. Pay only through the portal: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees are not in any source I could open.

Warning

CCU said in an August 2026 notice that admission letters come only through its admission portal and the email you registered with. Ignore anyone who asks you to pay into a personal account or over WhatsApp for a “CCU slot”, and check that any offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page before you pay acceptance.

What a science teacher education degree covers

Science education degrees combine a teaching subject with education courses. Students take university-level biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics alongside educational psychology, curriculum studies, science teaching methods, laboratory management, measurement and evaluation, and supervised teaching practice, ending with a research project. Graduates teach basic science and senior secondary sciences, run school laboratories, and work in curriculum and examination bodies.

Nigeria has a long-running shortage of qualified science and mathematics teachers, so jobs are easier to find than in many Arts teaching subjects. You will still need to pass the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria’s Professional Qualifying Examination, held since 2017, to be registered as a teacher.

Mistakes science education applicants make with CCU

  • Trusting the JAMB list alone: a course on JAMB’s list for a university is not proof that the university is admitting into it this year. Check the university’s own programme page and the NUC record as well.
  • Leaving out Mathematics: the general UTME line for Teacher Education Science names Mathematics, and most science teaching subjects need a Mathematics credit at O’level.
  • Copying the brochure’s odd O’level line: Statistics is not a normal WAEC or NECO subject for science candidates. Plan around English, Mathematics and your three sciences.
  • Waiting until CAPS to find out: if CCU does not run the course, nobody can recommend you for it. Change course early, while JAMB’s change of course window is open.
  • Paying agents: CCU says admission letters come only through its portal and your registered email.

Questions worth putting to CCU’s admissions office before you pay for anything: Is Teacher Education Science admitting this session? If yes, which science subjects does it cover, and has the NUC visited it? If no, which Education course would you place a science candidate in? Keep the replies with your application records.

Does CCU offer Teacher Education Science: frequently asked questions

Which science education course can I study at CCU instead? Education and Biology or Education and Computer Science. Both are on CCU’s faculty page and NUC lists both as Full with a 2028 maturity date.
