The MOUAU Mathematics Education cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike set for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, and MOUAU must be your first choice. The university has not published a separate cut-off for Mathematics Education, so 150 gets you into screening and a higher score is what gets you admitted.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Here you will find the official figures, my safe target score, JAMB’s subject and O’level rules for Mathematics Education, a note on how the course appears on JAMB’s list, MOUAU’s screening rules, a worked example and the CAPS steps.
MOUAU Mathematics Education cut off mark at a glance

MOUAU Mathematics Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | MOUAU minimum UTME score to register for screening, all courses, MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice signed by the Registrar, read through Myschool’s reprint (20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not verified | Blogs say 150; I could not open MOUAU’s own 2025 notice | Unconfirmed |
| Any year, Mathematics Education only | Not published | No separate merit cut-off for this course in any MOUAU source I reached | No official figure |
MOUAU uses one floor of 150 for all its courses, and Mathematics Education has no departmental figure of its own. Blog pages that print a “MOUAU departmental cut-off” for Mathematics Education cite no MOUAU document, so read them as guesses. The real merit line is decided after screening and is never made public.
Safe target score for Mathematics Education at MOUAU (my advice)
Because MOUAU publishes no merit cut-offs, the bands below are my planning advice for science education courses at a federal university, not MOUAU figures.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Mathematics Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; a fair chance with a strong Mathematics grade |
| 165 to 179 | Good chance |
| 180 and above | Strong for this course |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 175. Mathematics Education attracts a steady number of applicants because maths teachers are always in demand, but it is not as crowded as the business or health courses. Your O’level Mathematics grade carries extra weight here, so a B or better in one sitting is worth chasing.
UTME subject combination for Mathematics Education at MOUAU
JAMB’s brochure (Myschool reprint of the Education and Mathematics page) gives the UTME subjects as Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with Use of English compulsory.
| UTME subject | Choice |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory |
| Mathematics | Compulsory |
| Two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology | Pick two |
Physics and Chemistry is the pairing I would pick, since both use mathematics heavily and they prepare you for the physics and statistics you will meet in the degree.
Which course name to pick on the JAMB form
MOUAU is not named on Myschool’s Education and Mathematics page, although MOUAU’s College of Education lists B.Sc (Ed) Mathematics and its part-time call listed Mathematics Education. The page’s university list was empty when I checked. When you register, check the course names JAMB shows under MOUAU and pick the mathematics teaching option.
O’level requirements
| Requirement | What the brochure and MOUAU say |
|---|---|
| Credits needed | Five credits, at not more than two sittings |
| Subjects in the brochure line | English Language, Mathematics and one other science subject |
| Remaining credits | Any other subjects, but sciences fit best with your UTME choice |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | MOUAU weights the number of sittings, so one sitting is better |
The brochure line is lighter than for the other science education courses: only English, Mathematics and one science are fixed. Even so, I would make sure your two UTME sciences are also credits on your O’level, because a mismatch can raise questions at clearance.
Direct Entry
- Brochure line: two A level or NCE passes in Mathematics and one science subject.
- NCE holders: an NCE with Mathematics as a teaching subject fits this line.
- What MOUAU itself said: the 2026/2027 notice as reprinted gave no Direct Entry details, so watch the portal for a separate DE announcement.
Does the 2026 NCE change affect this course?
No. JAMB’s 2026 NCE guide moved candidates for colleges of education onto a separate NCE registration with no UTME, and it ended 100 and 200 level degree admission into colleges of education from 2026/2027. Those rules are about colleges of education. MOUAU is a university, and its B.Sc (Ed) Mathematics Education degree is still filled through the UTME and CAPS. If you hold an NCE already, it counts towards Direct Entry here, as the list above shows.
How MOUAU screening works
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set out these rules for UTME candidates:
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng |
| Registration and validation | portal.mouau.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre |
| How O’level counts | The notice says O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| Payment problems | portal@mouau.edu.ng |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the notice as reprinted |
The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not plan around one. Expect MOUAU to rank Mathematics Education applicants on the UTME score and the O’level result, with one sitting counting in your favour. Keep checking the portal in case a test or an extra step is announced; the notice itself told candidates to check back for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for a Mathematics Education candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. This example only measures the gap to the minimum and to my safe target, so treat it as illustrative.
Take Oluchi, who scored 172 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. In one WAEC sitting she has A1 in Mathematics, C4 in English, C5 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry and B3 in Biology.
- Eligibility: 172 minus 150 = 22. She clears the MOUAU minimum by 22 marks.
- Against my safe target: 175 minus 172 = 3. She is just under it.
- O’level check: English, Mathematics and three sciences, all credits in one sitting, with an A1 in the subject she wants to teach.
- My advice: she is in a good position. Register for screening, keep MOUAU first and check CAPS often.
Compare Kelechi with 158 and English from a second sitting. He is eligible but well below my target, so I would tell him to accept any MOUAU science education offer that appears on CAPS, rather than hold out for Mathematics Education only.
How to apply for Mathematics Education at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Mathematics Education with English, Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. If you already registered with another school as first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
- Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
- Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then shows on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount shown on your MOUAU portal invoice.
Warning
Some websites sell “MOUAU departmental cut-off” lists, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see, and how to check your JAMB result covers what to do once your 2027 score is out.
Studying Mathematics Education at MOUAU
Mathematics Education sits in the Department of Science Education, College of Education (COED), on the Umudike campus about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. The COED page lists the department’s B.Sc (Ed) options as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Integrated Science and Computer Science Education. MOUAU itself was set up by federal decree in November 1992 as a university of agriculture.
What you study
- Mathematics content: algebra, calculus, real analysis, linear algebra, statistics and numerical methods.
- Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum studies, measurement and evaluation, and methods for teaching mathematics.
- Teaching practice: supervised teaching in secondary schools, which every B.Sc (Ed) includes.
- General studies and project: MOUAU’s general courses and a final-year research project.
MOUAU’s own pages I reached do not state the duration. Four years through the UTME is the usual length for a B.Sc (Ed) in Nigeria, and Direct Entry students normally start at 200 level.
Accreditation
I could not confirm the current NUC accreditation status of Mathematics Education at MOUAU. The course is on the university’s official department list, which is a good sign, but ask the department before you pay acceptance and make sure your admission letter names Mathematics Education.
Part-time route
MOUAU has also run part-time B.Sc programmes through its Centre for Continuing Education. Myschool’s report of the part-time call for 2023/2024 (12 September 2023) listed Mathematics Education among the courses. That is an older notice, and part-time entry rules and fees were not stated in it, so treat it as a possible fallback and confirm the current call on the MOUAU portal.
Careers
- Mathematics teacher in secondary schools and technical colleges
- Examination bodies, tutorial centres and education publishing
- Data and statistics roles that value strong quantitative training
- Postgraduate study in mathematics or mathematics education. To teach in Nigeria you are expected to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)
Related MOUAU courses
- MOUAU Physics Education cut-off mark
- MOUAU Computer Science Education cut-off mark
- MOUAU Chemistry Education cut-off mark
- MOUAU Mathematics cut-off mark
All of these share MOUAU’s 150 minimum. If Chemistry is one of your UTME sciences, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027 lists every topic.
Mistakes that cost Mathematics Education applicants a MOUAU place
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it only lets you register for screening.
- Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
- A weak Mathematics grade: a bare C6 in the subject you want to teach does you no favours.
- Writing a non-science in the UTME: the brochure wants two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- O’level not on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
- Registering on awaiting result: MOUAU asked candidates to wait until results were out.
If MOUAU is not your first choice yet, read JAMB change of institution. If you registered a different course, JAMB change of course explains how to switch.
