The Caritas University cut-off mark for Computer Science is 150 in the UTME for the 2026/2027 admission year, because 150 is JAMB’s minimum for every Nigerian university in 2026. Caritas’s own admissions page says candidates who scored “140 and above” can apply. That figure is below JAMB’s floor, so a score between 140 and 149 will not get you admitted into Computer Science, or any other Caritas course, through JAMB CAPS. Caritas has not published a separate cut-off for Computer Science, and it does not set a written post-UTME test.
2027/2028 update: Caritas cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Computer Science is on both lists that matter. JAMB’s course list for Caritas University carries it as Computer Science, the exact name to select when you register, and Caritas’s current website lists it in the Faculty of Natural Sciences for 2026/2027. The NUC’s latest published result for the programme is Full accreditation, with a maturity date of 2029, which is the strongest record of the five science courses Caritas runs.
Below you will find why the 140 on the Caritas website does not count this year, a safe target score, the UTME and O’level rules from JAMB’s brochure (including Caritas’s own remarks), Direct Entry, how admission works without a post-UTME test, the application steps and what the degree involves.
Caritas cut-off mark for Computer Science at a glance

Why the 140 on Caritas’s website does not work for 2026/2027
At its 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, JAMB fixed 150 as the lowest UTME score any university may admit with for the 2026/2027 session. A university can ask for more than 150. It cannot go below it, because every admission has to be processed on JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), and JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. A candidate with 145 cannot be offered Computer Science at Caritas on CAPS, whatever the school’s page says.
The 140 on the Caritas page looks like wording carried over from older admission notices. Its other admission notice, titled for the 2025/2026 session, still mentions “the 2019 JAMB UTME” and an application closing date of 15 February 2025, which tells you how old some of that text is. Read 140 as Caritas’s historic figure and plan with 150.
What to do if you scored 140 to 149
- Rewrite the UTME in 2027: aim well above 150 so the floor is never in doubt, and keep Caritas and the exact course name on your form.
- Take JUPEB at Caritas: the admissions page says JUPEB admission is open for 2026/2027. JUPEB passes can take you into 200 level through Direct Entry, without a UTME score, in a later session. Caritas’s Direct Entry remark for Computer Science accepts JUPEB passes in Mathematics or Physics plus one other science.
- Consider a polytechnic ND: JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum for polytechnics is 100. An ND followed later by Direct Entry is a longer route, but it keeps you moving. An ND in a related field at lower credit is one of the Direct Entry routes Caritas lists for Computer Science.
Caritas Computer Science cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 | Caritas’s stated minimum (“140 and above”) for all courses | Official Caritas page, but below JAMB’s floor |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official; this is the figure that applies |
| 2025/2026 (as titled) | 140 | Minimum in a Caritas notice whose body refers to the 2019 UTME and a February 2025 closing date | Official but recycled text |
| Any year | None | A separate Computer Science cut-off | Never published by Caritas in any notice I found |
Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat the 140 figure and the absence of a written post-UTME test. They add nothing official beyond Caritas’s own pages, and none of them mention JAMB’s 150 floor.
Safe target score for Computer Science at Caritas (my advice)
Caritas does not publish how many candidates apply for each course or the score of the last person admitted. The table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, based on how private universities in the South East usually fill their science courses. It is not a Caritas rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Computer Science at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not admissible on CAPS for 2026/2027 |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible. With the right O’level and early application, a place is realistic, but you have little margin |
| 165 to 189 | Comfortable for a private university with no test |
| 190 and above | Strong |
Computer Science draws more applicants than most science courses at Nigerian private universities, so for the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, with credits in English, Mathematics and Physics from one sitting if you can manage it. Caritas does not rank candidates by a test, so the cleaner your file, the faster it moves.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Caritas Computer Science
| Requirement | What applies to Computer Science at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Computer Science |
| UTME subjects (JAMB brochure) | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography |
| Caritas remark on UTME | None; JAMB’s general rule applies |
| Combination I recommend | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| O’level (Caritas remark in the brochure) | Five credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and any two of Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science |
| O’level (Caritas Faculty of Natural Sciences) | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology |
| Sittings and exam bodies | Not more than two sittings; WAEC, NECO and NABTEB can be combined |
| Awaiting results | Accepted if results will be available at resumption |
Physics is compulsory for Computer Science in the UTME and in Caritas’s O’level remark. Candidates who sat Economics and Government in school sometimes pick Computer Science without Physics, and that fails the subject check before anyone looks at the score.
I recommend Chemistry as the fourth UTME subject even though Economics or Geography would also pass. English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry keeps Caritas’s other mathematical courses open to you as well: Mathematics with Statistics accepts Chemistry, and Industrial Chemistry needs it. If Caritas offers you a change of course on CAPS, you will want that flexibility.
The two O’level lists differ slightly. The brochure remark would accept Further Mathematics in place of Chemistry or Biology, while the faculty page lists Chemistry and Biology. A result with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology satisfies both, so that is the safe set.
Direct Entry into Computer Science at Caritas
Caritas’s own Direct Entry remark for Computer Science in JAMB’s brochure accepts any one of these:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry.
- NCE, ND or HND at lower credit in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry.
- GCE A’Level, IJMB or JUPEB passes in Mathematics or Physics plus one other science subject.
- JAMB’s general rule, for comparison, asks for two A’Level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject.
Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB, choose Caritas and the exact course name, and are admitted on CAPS like UTME candidates. If your former institution has to verify your result on JAMB’s e-Facility, start that early, because Caritas cannot finish your admission until JAMB sees it.
Does Caritas write post-UTME for Computer Science?
No. Caritas’s admission notice states that there is no post-UTME screening test, and older notices and blogs say the same. That notice is old text, though. The version on the new website is headed “Admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session” but asks for a minimum score “in the 2019 JAMB UTME” and gives 15 February 2025 as the closing date, so it was clearly copied forward from earlier years. The no-test rule has held for years, but confirm it with Caritas for your own session.
Without a test, your file decides. Caritas checks that your UTME score meets JAMB’s 150, that your O’level has the subjects and credits for Computer Science, that your UTME subjects fit the course, and that your result is on CAPS. Candidates who did not pick Caritas first can still apply, according to the admissions page, and candidates awaiting results can apply if the results will be out by resumption.
Worked example (illustrative)
Caritas has published no aggregate formula, and with no test there is nothing to combine. What you can check is whether your file clears each requirement. These two candidates are invented to show how.
Ifeoma scored 178 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Her WAEC has B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, C4 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry and C6 in Biology, from one sitting.
- Score: 178 minus 150 = 28. She clears JAMB’s floor by 28 marks and sits inside my comfortable band.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics and Physics are present, and Chemistry is an accepted fourth subject.
- O’level: credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. That meets both the brochure remark and the faculty list.
- Verdict: once her O’level is on CAPS and her Caritas application is in, nothing in her file should hold her back.
Tobenna scored 147 with English, Mathematics, Economics and Government, and has a D7 in Physics. 147 is 3 marks short of 150, he has no UTME Physics, and he lacks an O’level credit in Physics. Even if the score were 160, the subjects would stop him. His better route is to resit Physics in WAEC or NECO and rewrite the UTME with the right combination, or to look at JUPEB.
How to apply for Computer Science at Caritas, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: select Computer Science at Caritas University with English, Mathematics, Physics and (my advice) Chemistry. Caritas accepts candidates who chose another school first, but you will then need a JAMB change of institution so that Caritas can admit you on CAPS.
- Check your score: you need at least 150. See how to check your JAMB result if you have not printed it.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre. Caritas cannot recommend you for admission without it.
- Apply to Caritas: use the admissions page at caritasuni.edu.ng/admissions. It says admission is open for 2026/2027 and points to admissions contacts. Caritas has not published the form fee or a closing date there, so ask the admissions office (info@caritasuni.edu.ng) before you pay anything.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer when it appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and school fees, then clear: Caritas has not published its 2026/2027 acceptance fee or school fees. Pay only to the university’s own account after receiving the official figures.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). Caritas’s page says admission into the 2026/2027 session is open; any offer still has to appear on CAPS before that JAMB date.
Fees are the gap in Caritas’s published information. A blog reprint of Caritas’s 2021/2022 fee schedule (O3schools, February 2026) puts Natural Sciences fees at ₦248,000 and ₦398,000 a year, depending on level. Those figures are five sessions old, and Caritas’s recent notice says fees were revised without giving amounts, so use them only as a rough guide. The admissions page also links to the NELFUND student loan portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng); ask the bursary whether Caritas students can currently apply.
Warning
Caritas does not set a written post-UTME test, so nobody can sell you a pass or a “slot”. A score below 150 cannot be fixed by payment, and every genuine offer appears on your JAMB CAPS page. Pay fees only after confirming the amount and the account with the university.
Studying Computer Science at Caritas University
Computer Science sits in Caritas’s Faculty of Natural Sciences alongside Biochemistry, Microbiology, Mathematics and Statistics, and Industrial Chemistry. Caritas’s campus is at Amorji-Nike in Enugu. A Nigerian B.Sc. in Computer Science normally takes four years through the UTME and three through Direct Entry; Caritas has not stated the duration on the pages I read.
What you study
- Early years: mathematics (calculus, discrete structures, linear algebra), physics, introductory programming and computer fundamentals.
- Core computing: data structures and algorithms, operating systems, databases, computer architecture, networks and software engineering.
- Later years: areas such as artificial intelligence, information security, web and mobile development and compiler construction, depending on the department’s options.
- Industrial training and project: Nigerian B.Sc. programmes usually include a SIWES placement and a final-year project.
Accreditation
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list Computer Science at Caritas under the Computing discipline with this sequence of results: Interim, Full, Interim, Full, Interim, Full, and a maturity date of 2029. The latest grade is Full, and it runs to 2029, so the programme does not need another NUC visit before 2029.
Computer professionals in Nigeria register with the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), CPN. I did not find a published CPN accreditation record for Caritas’s programme, which does not affect your degree’s NUC standing.
For context on the school itself: in 2012 the NUC suspended the operating licences of several private universities, and Channels TV reported in August 2012 that Caritas was among those still under suspension at that point. The suspension was later lifted, and the NUC’s results since then show Caritas programmes being visited and graded in the normal way, including a Full result for Banking and Finance after a November 2024 visit.
Careers after Computer Science
- Software and web development, in-house or with tech firms and agencies.
- Data analysis, database administration and business intelligence.
- Network and systems administration, IT support and cloud operations.
- Information security work, usually after further certification.
- Teaching, research and postgraduate study in computing.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants a Caritas place
- Trusting the 140 figure: anything below 150 cannot be admitted on CAPS for 2026/2027.
- No Physics: it is required in the UTME and in Caritas’s O’level remark for Computer Science.
- Choosing Computer Engineering by accident: it is a separate B.Eng. course on JAMB’s list. Pick “Computer Science” if that is what you want.
- Leaving O’level off CAPS: without it Caritas cannot recommend you, even with a good score.
- Paying people who promise a place: with no post-UTME test, there is nothing to “help” with. Every genuine offer appears on your CAPS page.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee, clearance and registration at Caritas are separate steps.
If you are planning for 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, if you need to switch courses or schools, JAMB change of course.

Sources and updates
The “140 and above” figure, the open 2026/2027 session, the rule on candidates who did not choose Caritas first, the awaiting-result rule and the faculty O’level list come from Caritas University’s admissions page and faculty pages, read on 30 October 2026. The no-test rule and the references to the 2019 UTME and a 15 February 2025 closing date are from Caritas’s notice headed “Admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session”, signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka. The 150 national minimum, the ban on admissions outside CAPS and the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026. The course name is from JAMB’s course list for Caritas University and the subject and Direct Entry rules from the JAMB brochure entry for Computer Science, both reprinted by Myschool. Accreditation is from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026). The 2012 licence suspension is from Channels TV (7 August 2012). The safe target scores and the worked example are my own advice. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated when Caritas publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
