FUAHSE Biotechnology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

FUAHSE set 200 as the cut-off mark for its new Biotechnology course. See the official list, a safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level, screening, CAPS steps and NUC status.

The FUAHSE Biotechnology cut off mark is 200 in the UTME. The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE), a federal university in Trans-Ekulu, put Biotechnology at 200 on its official 2026/2027 UTME admission cut-off list. That is 50 marks above the 150 that JAMB set as the minimum for universities in 2026.

2027/2028 update: FUAHSE cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Biotechnology is one of FUAHSE’s newer courses. It sits in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, it was not among the 16 courses advertised for 2025/2026, and the Vice-Chancellor named it in May 2026 as one of 11 newly approved programmes. The one thing I could not confirm is how the course appears on JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses, so read the JAMB note below before you register. This page covers the cut-off, the score I would aim for, subjects, screening, CAPS steps and what you study.

If the course does not show under FUAHSE when you register for the 2027 UTME, don’t pick a different FUAHSE course just to keep the school. Choose Biotechnology at a university where JAMB lists it, such as Godfrey Okoye University or Ebonyi State University (both named in JAMB’s brochure entry), or look at our ESUT Applied Biology and Biotechnology guide. Within FUAHSE, Microbiology and Biochemistry (150 each) are the closest courses.

One year of figures is all that exists for a new course. I expect 200 to hold for 2027/2028 unless FUAHSE says otherwise. If it moves, demand will decide: Biotechnology attracts students who missed Medicine or Pharmacy, and a strong turnout in 2026/2027 could push the mark up.

All FUAHSE cut-off marks for 2026/2027

2026/2027 cut-offFUAHSE courses (names as on the e-portal)

230Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy
200Public Health, Dental Technology, Dental Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical and Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, Social Work, Biotechnology, Alternative and Complementary Medicine
180Health Care Management, Occupational Therapy, Parasitology and Entomology, Water Hygiene and Sanitation
170Speech Therapy, Community Health, Health Information
150Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology

Biotechnology is the only Basic Medical Sciences course at 200. Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Microbiology are at 150, and Parasitology and Entomology is at 180. So if your score is under 200 but you still want laboratory biology at FUAHSE, those courses are open to you.

Safe target score for Biotechnology at FUAHSE (my advice)

FUAHSE does not publish the lowest score it admitted, and this is the course’s first year on the list. The bands below are my judgement, based on how new science courses at federal universities usually fill.

Your UTME scoreMy read for FUAHSE Biotechnology
Below 200Not eligible; Microbiology or Biochemistry (150) are the nearest FUAHSE options
200 to 209Eligible, but close to the line
210 to 224Competitive with good O’level grades in Biology and Chemistry
225 and aboveStrong

I would aim for at least 215. A first intake in a new department is usually small, and many candidates who score 200 to 230 were really chasing Medical Laboratory Science (230) or Nursing (260) and could be offered Biotechnology instead. Those candidates push up the competition.

Catchment and quota

FUAHSE has not published a catchment list, an Enugu quota or a quota for this course. Plan on merit and treat 200 as the floor.

Biotechnology subject combination and O’level for FUAHSE

RequirementBiotechnology (JAMB general entry)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry and any other science subject
UTME subjects I recommendUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (FUAHSE has not published a different list)
Direct Entry (JAMB)Two A’level passes in Biology, Botany or Zoology, and Chemistry or Physics
Direct Entry (FUAHSE 2026/2027 notice)ND, HND or a first degree plus relevant O’level credits

These come from JAMB’s brochure entry titled Biotechnology (Myschool reprint, checked 30 October 2026). The entry has remarks for schools such as FUTO, FUTA, GOUNI and EBSU, but none for FUAHSE. JAMB lets you choose any third science, so Physics, Mathematics or Agricultural Science would all pass the general rule. I would still take Physics: it matches the O’level list, and some universities on the same entry name Physics or Mathematics specifically.

Course name to pick on JAMB: JAMB’s brochure lists this course as Biotechnology, and FUAHSE’s cut-off page calls it Biotechnology. I could not open JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses (the Myschool reprint would not load for me), so I can’t confirm exactly how the course appears under FUAHSE. FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME form took JAMB registration numbers and the course is on its official cut-off list, which tells you admission runs through JAMB. At registration, ask the centre to show FUAHSE’s course options on screen and pick the matching one. Don’t settle for a similar-looking course at another school.

Worked example

FUAHSE has not published an aggregate formula, so the honest test is your margin over 200 plus clean O’level results.

Chiamaka scored 218 with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Her WAEC has B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, A1 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry and C5 in Physics, all in one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 218 minus 200 = 18 marks above the cut-off.
  2. Against my target: 218 is in the competitive band.
  3. O’level check: all five required subjects at credit level in one sitting.
  4. My advice: keep Biotechnology. If CAPS shows an offer for Microbiology or Biochemistry instead, read it carefully before you reject it, because both lead to similar laboratory careers.

Tobenna scored 197. He misses Biotechnology by three marks, but he clears Microbiology, Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology at 150 and Parasitology and Entomology at 180.

How to apply for Biotechnology at FUAHSE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose FUAHSE and Biotechnology, with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If FUAHSE was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before its screening form opens.
  3. Upload your O’level on CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre, early. Universities read your grades from CAPS.
  4. Fill the FUAHSE screening form: go to eportal.fuahse.edu.ng and open the Post-UTME application form for the session. UTME candidates enter their JAMB registration number; Direct Entry candidates start with a phone number. Blogs reported a fee of ₦2,000 for 2026/2027; the portal invoice is what counts.
  5. Print your slip and watch for updates: FUAHSE has not published whether it holds a test, so keep checking the portal and the official admissions page after you submit.
  6. Check your status: use FUAHSE’s admission status page and JAMB CAPS. An offer is only real once it appears on CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: FUAHSE has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the FUAHSE e-portal, and keep every receipt for clearance.

Warning

FUAHSE’s admissions page warns that fake admission information about the university is circulating on Facebook. Its official channels are fuahse.edu.ng/admissions and the e-portal at eportal.fuahse.edu.ng, and every genuine offer also shows on JAMB CAPS. Nobody can sell you a place, so don’t pay anyone who promises one.

FUAHSE is a federal university, so its 2026/2027 admissions fall under the window JAMB set for public universities, which ended on 31 October 2026 (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). That date has now passed. I found no report of when FUAHSE uploaded its 2026/2027 list. If you applied this year, check CAPS and FUAHSE’s status page, and read our JAMB CAPS guide to understand each status.

Studying Biotechnology at FUAHSE

Biotechnology is listed in FUAHSE’s Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences alongside Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Parasitology and Entomology. FUAHSE has not published the curriculum or the duration. A B.Sc. in Biotechnology usually runs for four years in Nigeria.

Is FUAHSE Biotechnology approved?

  • March 2024: the Federal Government approved the upgrade of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Trans-Ekulu, into FUAHSE.
  • October 2024: an NUC team began checking 18 of the 22 programmes FUAHSE’s Senate had approved for take-off in 2024/2025, using NUC’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards as the yardstick (The Sun, 31 October 2024).
  • December 2024: FUAHSE announced NUC approval for its first 16 degree programmes (Journalist101 and Vanguard, 19 December 2024). Biotechnology was not one of them, and it was not in the 2025/2026 intake either.
  • May 2026: the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, said NUC approval now covered 27 programmes: the original 16 plus 11 newer ones, naming Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering among them. He spoke ahead of the university’s second matriculation (The Sun, 9 May 2026).

Biotechnology is one of only three new programmes the Vice-Chancellor named, so its approval is on record. Accreditation is a separate NUC visit that happens when students reach the upper years; no result exists yet for a course whose first students entered in 2026/2027. There is no licensing council for biotechnologists in Nigeria the way MLSCN licenses medical laboratory scientists, so you will not need a practising licence.

What you study

FUAHSE hasn’t published its course outline. Biotechnology degrees in Nigeria generally build up like this, and a health sciences university is likely to lean towards medical uses:

  • Year one: general biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, plus general studies.
  • Core biology: cell biology, genetics, microbiology and biochemistry.
  • Molecular tools: DNA extraction, PCR, gene cloning, protein work and bioinformatics.
  • Applied areas: medical and pharmaceutical biotechnology, diagnostics, fermentation and industrial processes.
  • Rules and ethics: biosafety, intellectual property and the ethics of genetic work.
  • Projects and placements: laboratory practicals, SIWES industrial training and a final-year research project.

Careers

Graduates work in diagnostic and research laboratories, pharmaceutical and food companies, breweries, quality control, and public research agencies such as the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency. Many go on to a master’s degree, because research jobs in molecular biology often ask for one. If your real goal is to work in a hospital laboratory, Medical Laboratory Science is the licensed route; Biotechnology does not lead to an MLSCN licence.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus, then read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and what to do with your JAMB score if you are planning a fresh attempt in 2027.

Mistakes that cost Biotechnology applicants a FUAHSE place

  • Treating 150 as enough: 150 lets you fill the form, but Biotechnology needs 200.
  • Missing Physics at O’level: JAMB’s entry lists Physics among the five O’level credits, even though the UTME allows another science.
  • Uploading O’level late: CAPS can’t place you if your results are not there.
  • Registering a look-alike course: “Microbiology and Biotechnology” or “Agric Biotechnology” at another school is a different course.
  • Paying agents: FUAHSE has warned about fake admission information on Facebook and banned money-for-admission deals.

If FUAHSE wasn’t your first choice, read how to change institution on JAMB before the next screening opens.

FUAHSE Biotechnology cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Can I study Biotechnology at FUAHSE with 190? No. The 2026/2027 cut-off is 200. With 190 you clear Microbiology, Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology (150) and Parasitology and Entomology (180).

Is Mathematics compulsory in the UTME for Biotechnology? No. JAMB’s general entry asks for Biology, Chemistry and any other science, so Physics works. Mathematics is still compulsory at O’level.

Is FUAHSE Biotechnology approved by NUC? Yes, as far as public statements go. The Vice-Chancellor named Biotechnology among 11 newly approved programmes in May 2026. Accreditation comes later.

How many years is Biotechnology at FUAHSE? FUAHSE has not published it. A B.Sc. in Biotechnology usually takes four years in Nigeria, so confirm with the department.
