The Abia Poly cut off mark for Architectural Technology is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Abia State Polytechnic, now Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, has not published a separate cut-off for ND Architectural Technology. Some blogs say “120 and above”, but none of them shows a school notice.
2027/2028 update: Abia Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Clearing 100 gets you into the pool, and Architectural Technology is one of the more sought-after courses in a polytechnic’s environmental school, so plan for more. Below are the verified figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination, O’level rules, what is known about screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.
Abia Poly Architectural Technology cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |

Architectural Technology appeared on the course list in the polytechnic’s 2025/2026 ND/HND admission advert, so the department was admitting in the last session with a published advert.
Abia Poly Architectural Technology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official |
| 2026/2027 | 120 | “Scored up to 120 and above” on a blog’s Abia Poly screening post | Unofficial |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Abia Poly cut-off for Architectural Technology specifically | Never published in any source I found |
JAMB kept the polytechnic minimum at 100 in both 2025 and 2026, and its 2026 policy meeting said the approved minimums must be strictly followed. A polytechnic is free to admit above that line, and engineering and design courses often fill with higher scores, but Abia Poly has never announced a figure for Architectural Technology. If a website quotes an exact Abia Poly Architectural Technology cut-off such as 140 or 150, ask it for the school notice behind the number.
Safe target score for Architectural Technology at Abia Poly (my advice)
This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser, based on how ND engineering and technology courses fill in South East polytechnics. It is not an Abia Poly rule, and the school has not published merit lists with scores.
| Your UTME score | My read for ND Architectural Technology at Abia Poly |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any ND course this session |
| 100 to 119 | Eligible, but weak for Architectural Technology |
| 120 to 139 | Possible, and above the figure blogs quote |
| 140 to 159 | Reasonable |
| 160 to 179 | Competitive |
| 180 and above | Strong. You should not lose a place on score alone. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 150, with credits in English, Mathematics and Physics, and ideally Technical Drawing or Fine Art among your others.
Catchment and state of origin
Abia Poly is owned by the Abia State Government, but it has not published a catchment list or a quota split for 2026/2027. It admits candidates from every state. I would not count on any indigene advantage unless the school’s own notice mentions one.
Abia Poly Architectural Technology subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | ND Architectural Technology |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing |
| O’level | Five credits in Mathematics, Physics and English Language plus any two of Biology, Fine Art, Chemistry, History, Geography, Further Mathematics, Economics/Commerce, Religious Knowledge, Technical Drawing and Business Method. A pass in Fine Art or Technical Drawing is an advantage. |
| English Language | Required as one of the five credits |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO and NABTEB are the usual ones; the 2025/2026 advert names SSCE and NECO |
| Sittings | Not stated by Abia Poly; two sittings is the common polytechnic limit |
| Abia Poly remark in the brochure | None |
| Interview, drawing test or practical | None published |
In the UTME, Mathematics is fixed and you choose two of Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing. I would pick Physics as one of them, because the O’level rule makes Physics compulsory and structures in year one build on it. Physics with Technical Drawing is a good pair if you did drawing in school; Physics with Chemistry also works. Waivers on the brochure page (such as Geography at IMT Enugu) apply to other schools, not Abia State Polytechnic.
At O’level you need credits in Mathematics, Physics and English Language, plus two more from a long list that includes Fine Art, Technical Drawing, Geography and Chemistry. The brochure adds that a pass in Fine Art or Technical Drawing is an advantage, which tells you the department values drawing ability.
The 2025/2026 advert reprint says candidates need “at least four (4) Passes” at SSCE or NECO, and then the text is cut off. That line does not match the five credits in JAMB’s brochure. Plan for five credits, with Mathematics, Physics and English Language among them. That is the national ND pattern, and it keeps every option open, including a later move to HND.
Direct Entry and the HND route
There is no Direct Entry into the first year of an ND, and JAMB’s brochure lists no Direct Entry requirement for this course. ND Architectural Technology admission goes through the UTME and CAPS. After the ND and a year of industrial attachment, you can apply for HND Architectural Technology directly to the polytechnic, outside CAPS, if the school runs the HND in that session.
For HND admission, a blog (schoolings.org, page updated 12 March 2026) reprinted a notice it credits to the polytechnic’s management: a ₦5,000 form, five O’level credits, an ND at Lower Credit or above, a one-year industrial attachment, and a screening test with no make-up date. I have not seen the original notice, so treat those details as unconfirmed. Our Abia Poly HND admission requirements page covers that route.
How Abia Poly screening works
I could not find an official 2026/2027 screening notice from Abia Poly. Its website did not load for me, and Myschool, which usually reprints polytechnic adverts, has none for this session. What follows comes from the 2025/2026 advert reprinted by Myschool and from a blog description of the 2026/2027 form, so check every detail on the portal before you pay.
| Detail | What is known | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Who can apply | Candidates who chose Abia State Polytechnic in the UTME and scored at least the minimum | JAMB rule; blog says first choice |
| Minimum UTME score | 100 (JAMB); some blogs say 120 | 100 official; 120 unofficial |
| Eligibility line in 2025/2026 advert | “At least four (4) Passes at SSCE/NECO level” (the reprint cuts off after this) | Myschool reprint, 26 July 2025 |
| Payment | Generate an invoice on the portal and pay at a bank | Blog (o3schools, 3 February 2026) |
| After payment | Complete the form, upload documents, print the acknowledgement and an exam slip | Blog; suggests a screening test |
| Fee | Not published | Unknown |
| Aggregate formula | Not published | Unknown |
The exam slip in the blog description points to a written or computer test. Abia Poly has not said what the test covers or how it weighs it against your UTME score. For an engineering or technology course, I would revise the same Mathematics, Physics and the other subjects (Physics, Chemistry or Technical Drawing) you wrote in the UTME, plus English, because that is what polytechnic screening tests usually draw on.
Worked example for an ND Architectural Technology applicant
Abia Poly has not published an aggregate formula, so start with the gap between your UTME score, the 100 minimum and a safe target. Take Adaeze, who scored 158 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Technical Drawing, with O’level credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing and Geography and a pass in Fine Art.
- Eligibility: 158 minus 100 = 58. She is well above JAMB’s minimum.
- Against the blog figure: 158 minus 120 = 38. She clears 120 too.
- Against my safe target: 158 minus 150 = 8. She is in the reasonable to competitive range.
- O’level check: the three compulsory credits plus two listed subjects, and a Fine Art pass that the brochure calls an advantage.
To show how a combined ranking might work (Abia Poly has not published one), divide the UTME score by 8 and add a screening score out of 50. Adaeze’s 158 gives 19.75; with 30 in screening she totals 49.75. A candidate with 130 and the same screening score totals 46.25. This is an illustration only.
Your chances of getting Architectural Technology at Abia Poly
- Architectural Technology is usually more competitive than Estate Management or Urban and Regional Planning, and less crowded than Computer Engineering.
- A score of 150 or more with the right O’level credits puts you in a fair position.
- Technical Drawing or Fine Art at O’level helps you in class even where it does not change the ranking.
- Polytechnic admission for 2026/2027 ran until JAMB’s 31 December 2026 deadline, so keep checking CAPS after the first list.
If you are offered Building Technology or Quantity Surveying instead, both sit in the same environmental school and lead to work on building sites and in design offices. I would accept one of them over losing the year.
How to apply for Architectural Technology at Abia Poly, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick Architectural Technology with Use of English, Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing. JAMB still lists the school as Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, even though it was renamed Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic in November 2024.
- Fix your choice if needed: if Abia Poly was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens. To move into this course from another one, see JAMB change of course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB accredited centre. JAMB cannot offer you admission while CAPS shows no O’level result.
- Fill the screening form: on the Abia Poly applicant portal (portal.abiastatepolytechnic.edu.ng), generate the invoice, pay, complete the form, upload your documents, and print the acknowledgement and exam slip.
- Sit the screening: go with your slip, UTME result slip and O’level results if a test is held.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: Abia Poly has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the school portal, then complete clearance at the school.
Warning
Admission into Abia Poly comes through JAMB CAPS. If anyone offers you a “special list” slot for money, walk away. A genuine offer appears on your CAPS page, and genuine school payments are made through a portal invoice in your name.
If you still need to sit the UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and revise with our JAMB Chemistry syllabus. When results come out, see how to check your JAMB result.
Studying Architectural Technology at Abia Poly
ND Architectural Technology sits in the polytechnic’s School of Environmental Design and Technology at the Aba campus. The course trains you to produce building drawings, models and plans, and to support architects and builders on design and site work.
What you study
- Architectural drawing and graphics, by hand and on the computer
- Building construction: materials, foundations, walls and roofs
- Architectural design studio projects, from small houses upwards
- History of architecture
- Building services: water, drainage, lighting and ventilation
- Model making, site surveying basics and structures
- Communication in English and general studies courses
Studio work takes a lot of time, often late into the night before a project deadline. You will also buy drawing equipment and printing materials, so budget for them beyond tuition.
Duration and accreditation
Under the standard NBTE structure, the ND runs for two years full time. Students who want the HND then do a one-year industrial attachment (SIWES or IT) before applying, and the HND usually asks for an ND at Lower Credit or above. Abia Poly has not published a course-specific timetable, so treat this as the national pattern.
On accreditation, the history matters. In 2022 the NBTE withdrew Abia State Polytechnic’s accreditation, and reports said students were barred from NYSC mobilisation. The Abia State Government announced on 1 September 2022 that accreditation had been restored after it released ₦450 million and held talks with the NBTE. I could not confirm the current NBTE status of ND Architectural Technology itself, so ask the department, or check the NBTE’s list of accredited programmes, before you pay fees. In Nigeria the title architect is controlled by the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). An ND in Architectural Technology alone does not make you a registered architect; that needs further degrees and ARCON’s own process.
Architectural Technology, Building Technology or Quantity Surveying at Abia Poly?
| Point | Architectural Technology | Building Technology | Quantity Surveying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Design and drawing of buildings | Construction methods and site supervision | Costs, measurement and contracts |
| Best extra O’level | Technical Drawing or Fine Art | Technical Drawing | Economics |
| Typical first job | Draughtsman or design assistant | Site supervisor or building technician | Assistant quantity surveyor |
All three are on JAMB’s course list for Abia State Polytechnic. Check each course’s UTME subjects on its own page before you switch, because they are not identical.
Careers after the ND
- Architectural draughtsman or CAD technician in design offices
- Design assistant to architects and building contractors
- Building plan preparation for approval work
- Technical officer roles in town planning and works departments
- HND Architectural Technology, then a degree route if you want to become a registered architect

Mistakes that cost Architectural Technology applicants a place at Abia Poly
- Leaving out Physics: it is optional in the UTME list but compulsory at O’level, so write it in both.
- Treating 100 as a safe score: it is the minimum to apply.
- Registering Geography as a UTME subject: that waiver is for IMT Enugu, not Abia State Polytechnic.
- O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot process your admission without it.
- Searching for the new name only: JAMB and CAPS still show Abia State Polytechnic.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee payment and clearance are separate steps.
Abia Poly Architectural Technology cut-off: frequently asked questions
What is the cut off mark for Architecture in Abia Poly? Abia Poly runs Architectural Technology at ND level. The official minimum is JAMB’s 100; no departmental cut-off is published, and I would aim for 150 or more.
Can I study Architectural Technology without Technical Drawing? Yes. In the UTME you can take Physics and Chemistry with Mathematics. A pass in Fine Art or Technical Drawing at O’level is an advantage, not a requirement.
Is Geography accepted for Architectural Technology at Abia Poly? Not as a UTME subject; the Geography waiver on the brochure is for IMT Enugu. At O’level, Geography is accepted as one of the two extra credits.
Can I become an architect with ND Architectural Technology? Not on the ND alone. The title architect is controlled by ARCON and needs further degrees and its registration process; the ND is a good start toward that.
Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 admission deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025) and matching Blueprint and AllAfrica reports. The UTME and O’level requirements are from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure as reprinted by Myschool (ND Architectural Technology brochure page), which has no Abia Poly remark. The course list is from the Myschool list of Abia State Polytechnic courses and Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic’s 2025/2026 ND/HND admission advert reprinted by Myschool (26 July 2025). The “120 and above” figure and the screening form steps are from o3schools (3 February 2026) and are unofficial. The HND details are from a schoolings.org reprint (12 March 2026) that I could not match to an original notice. The renaming to Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic on 7 November 2024 and the school’s location are from Wikipedia and news reports of the renaming. The 2022 accreditation withdrawal and restoration are from news reports and the Abia State Government (1 September 2022). Course content and careers describe the standard NBTE ND, not an Abia Poly handbook. The safe target scores and the worked example are my own advice.
