ESUT Quantity Surveying Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Requirements, QSRBN Status and Admission Guide

ESUT’s official minimum UTME score for Quantity Surveying in 2027/2028 is 160, but no merit score is published. See the subject combination, ESUT Direct Entry remark, QSRBN status, screening terms and a safe target score.

The ESUT cut off mark for Quantity Surveying for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology’s official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026 set 160 for its Faculty of Environmental Sciences, lifting only Architecture to 180. So 160 or more, ESUT as your institution and the right subjects made you eligible for online screening.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

160 is the minimum to apply, and ESUT does not publish the final merit score for Quantity Surveying or any other course. There is also an accreditation point most blogs miss: the professional board’s current register shows ESUT’s programme going through re-accreditation. This guide covers the official figure, the history I could trace, a safe target score marked as my advice, the subject combination and ESUT’s Direct Entry remark, how the no-test screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps and the route to becoming a registered quantity surveyor.

Keep the two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score is the gate ESUT announces before screening; below it, the portal will not take your application for that course. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into the course after screening, and ESUT does not announce it. Most of the confusion online about “ESUT departmental cut-off marks” comes from treating the first as the second.

Quantity Surveying has stayed in ESUT’s 160 band in both sessions I could trace. In 2026/2027 ESUT moved Architecture out of the faculty band and up to 180, which shows that it does review these figures course by course. Bands can move from one session to the next, so treat the 2025/2026 row as history and check the new advert when ESUT releases it.

Some blogs quote much higher ESUT “cut-offs” for courses such as Medicine (314) and Accounting (246) without an ESUT document behind them. None of the lists I checked gives a figure for Quantity Surveying, so ignore any number for this course that ESUT itself did not publish.

Safe target score for Quantity Surveying at ESUT (my advice)

This is my advice, not an ESUT rule. Quantity Surveying sits between Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering, and it collects candidates who wanted those courses but fell short. ESUT held no test in 2026/2027, so you could not make up ground after JAMB.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Quantity Surveying
160 to 179Eligible, but many applicants will be ahead of you. Strong O’level grades in Mathematics and Physics help.
180 to 199A fair chance.
200 to 219A good chance.
220 and aboveComfortable for Quantity Surveying. You could also compete for Architecture at 180 and above.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Quantity Surveying is 200 or more, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT has not published a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split you may have read about is federal university policy, and ESUT has not said it applies it. If you are from outside Enugu, plan to win on your score and grades rather than on state of origin.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Quantity Surveying

RequirementQuantity Surveying
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Chemistry, Geography, Fine Art, Biology or Economics
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one of Fine Art, Geography, Woodwork or another listed subject (such as Biology, Economics or Technical Drawing)
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct Entry (general rule)Two A’level passes chosen from Mathematics or Physics and Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts; or ND/HND upper credit in a relevant field
Direct Entry (ESUT remark)A’level or ND upper credit in Building and Quantity Surveying (an A’level pass is also acceptable); HND upper credit into 400 level of the five-year programme; a relevant first degree; Cambridge A’level accepted
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT (no interview or aptitude test)

These come from the JAMB brochure entry for Quantity Surveying as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026). ESUT has no remark on the UTME or O’level lines, so the general rule applies. Chemistry is the best fourth UTME subject because it matches the O’level list, and Economics is a reasonable choice if your Chemistry is weak, since cost and contract work leans on it later.

ESUT does have a Direct Entry remark. It accepts an A’level or an ND upper credit in Building and Quantity Surveying (and says an A’level pass is equally acceptable), an HND upper credit into 400 level of the five-year programme, a relevant first degree, and Cambridge A’level. The same remark block also mentions an ND lower credit, without saying which course it applies to. Confirm the exact grade and entry level with the department before you apply.

ESUT’s advert itself only says Direct Entry candidates are screened online and must be cleared on JAMB e-facility by their former institutions.

How ESUT screening works for Quantity Surveying

These were the 2026/2027 screening terms in ESUT’s advert. The window has closed for this session, but they show you what to prepare for 2027.

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for a Quantity Surveying candidate

Take Kosi, who scored 207 in the 2026 UTME with B3, B2, B3, C4 and C5 in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geography.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 207 minus the 160 minimum = 47 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 207 ÷ 8 = 25.88 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 8 + 9 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 38 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 25.88 + 38 = 63.88 out of 100.

Tobenna scored 224 but has C5, C6, C6, C6 and C5. His illustrative total is 28.00 + 27 = 55.00, behind Kosi. If ESUT ranks on UTME alone, Tobenna leads. ESUT has not said which approach it uses, so push both your score and your grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Quantity Surveying at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Chemistry, Geography, Fine Art, Biology or Economics (Chemistry is the safest) and choose ESUT and Quantity Surveying. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Quantity Surveying, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Accreditation check

The Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria’s register for 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026 lists ESUT’s Quantity Surveying programme with re-accreditation in progress. Before you pay the acceptance fee, ask the department whether the QSRBN visit has been concluded, and remember to accept your offer on JAMB CAPS first.

ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list appeared on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026, Myschool reported. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer and set 31 October 2026 as the end of admissions for public universities. Myschool also reported on 28 October 2026 that ESUT had released change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027. I have not read their terms, so check the portal if CAPS shows a course other than the one you applied for.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Quantity Surveying at ESUT

Quantity Surveying sits in ESUT’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences, which in the 2026/2027 advert runs eight programmes: Architecture, Building, Environmental Management, Estate Management, Geography and Meteorology, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geo-informatics, and Urban and Regional Planning. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. The pages I checked do not confirm where the faculty’s buildings sit, so treat Agbani as the likely base and confirm when you resume. ESUT’s own brochure remark for this group refers to a five-year programme, which matches how Quantity Surveying runs in most Nigerian universities. Confirm the exact structure in the departmental handbook.

Quantity Surveying trains you to measure, cost and control the money side of construction, from the first estimate to the final account. You work closely with architects, builders and engineers. Expect areas like these:

  • Measurement of building and civil works: taking off quantities from drawings and preparing bills of quantities.
  • Estimating and cost planning: pricing labour, materials and plant, and keeping projects within budget.
  • Contract administration and procurement: tendering, contract forms, valuations and final accounts.
  • Construction technology, materials and services.
  • Construction economics, law and project management.
  • Quantity surveying software and computer applications.
  • Industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.

NUC accreditation: After the National Universities Commission’s 2024 exercise, ESUT reported full accreditation for programmes in six faculties, Environmental Science among them (Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025). The report names faculties, not programmes, and gives no separate grade for Quantity Surveying. That is a good sign for the faculty, but I found no programme-level result, so ask the department to confirm its status when you go for clearance.

To practise as a quantity surveyor in Nigeria you register with the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN), usually after membership of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) and the required experience and examinations. QSRBN’s list of educational institutions for 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026 shows ESUT under “re-accreditation process ongoing”. In plain terms, the programme is on the board’s books and awaiting a fresh visit. Ask the department whether the visit has been concluded, and check again before your final year.

Career paths after Quantity Surveying

  • Quantity surveyor in consultancy firms, after QSRBN registration.
  • Cost engineer or commercial manager with construction contractors.
  • Project and contract officer in ministries of works, housing and public procurement bodies.
  • Cost and claims roles in oil and gas, real estate development and banks’ project finance desks.
  • Postgraduate study in construction management, project management or cost engineering.

Mistakes Quantity Surveying applicants make

  • Treating 160 as the admission score: it only lets you apply.
  • Missing Physics: it is fixed in the UTME combination and required at O’level.
  • Ignoring the QSRBN position: ask about the re-accreditation visit before you commit.
  • Expecting a Post-UTME test to rescue a low score: ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had no test, so your UTME score and O’level do the work.
  • Forgetting the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes the O’level upload compulsory for every candidate.
  • Late awaiting results: results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
  • Name mismatches: ESUT asks that names match across O’level certificates, the UTME result and other documents.
