ESUT Department of Education Administration and Supervision 2027/2028: Cut-Off Mark and Career Path

ESUT’s minimum UTME score for Education Administration and Supervision in 2027/2028 is 160. See the safe target, the ESUT brochure remark on Mathematics, UTME subjects, screening rules and the career path into school leadership.

The ESUT Education Administration and Supervision cut off mark for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology’s official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026 placed the whole Faculty of Education in its 160 band, so 160 is the minimum score to apply for this course. With 160 or more, ESUT as your institution and the right UTME subjects, you were eligible for this year’s online screening.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Clearing 160 lets you apply; ESUT does not publish the final merit score for any course. This guide gives the official figure and history, a safe target score marked as my advice, the JAMB subjects and O’level rules (including an ESUT-specific remark in the JAMB brochure that relaxes two credits), how the no-test screening works with a worked example, the CAPS and portal steps, and the career path the degree opens in school leadership and education management.

Keep two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score (160) is the gate ESUT announces before screening; below it, the portal will not take your application for that course. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted after ESUT ranks applicants against the places it has, and ESUT does not announce it for any course. Most of the confusion online about “ESUT departmental cut-off marks” comes from treating the first number as the second.

The figure has not moved between the two sessions I could trace. ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert lists the minimums in five bands and, in the lowest band, names “Faculties of Agriculture, Education, Environmental Sciences and other courses” at 160. So the 160 for Education Administration and Supervision comes from ESUT naming the education faculty directly in that band. ESUT still reviews these minimums every session, and the advert came out in early July in 2026, so check the 2027/2028 advert before you settle on a number.

You may see much higher “ESUT cut-off marks” on some blogs, such as Medicine at 314 or Nursing at 290 on Legit.ng. None of those figures cites an ESUT document, and none covers Education Administration and Supervision. If someone quotes you a departmental cut-off for Education Administration and Supervision above 160, ask them for the ESUT notice it came from.

Education Administration and Supervision or Educational Management?

ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert lists both Education Administration and Supervision and Educational Management in the Faculty of Education, and candidates often ask which is which. ESUT has not published course outlines that separate them, so I can only describe what the names usually mean and what the JAMB brochure shows.

PointEducation Administration and SupervisionEducational Management
Usual focusRunning schools, inspecting and supervising teaching, school records and disciplinePlanning, financing and managing the education system and institutions
UTME subjects (brochure)Any three of Literature in English, History, French, Geography or Physics, Economics, MathematicsEconomics, Mathematics and one Social Science or Arts subject
ESUT remark in the brochureYes: Mathematics and Economics credits not insisted onNone found
ESUT minimum UTME 2026/2027160160

If you are weak in Mathematics, Education Administration and Supervision is the friendlier of the two at ESUT on paper, because of that remark. If you are comfortable with Mathematics and Economics, both are open to you, and Educational Management may suit you if you like planning and numbers.

Safe target score for Education Administration and Supervision at ESUT (my advice)

This is my judgement, not an ESUT rule. Education administration courses rarely fill with first-choice candidates, and ESUT runs two similar programmes, which spreads applicants further. Many students arrive through CAPS from more popular Arts and Social Science courses. With no Post-UTME test in 2026/2027, your UTME score and O’level grades carry the whole application.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Education Administration and Supervision
160 to 169Eligible for screening and a fair chance if your O’level is complete.
170 to 184A good chance on the evidence available.
185 and aboveComfortable for this course.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Education Administration and Supervision is 175 or more, with a credit in English Language and solid grades in your Arts or Social Science subjects. If you are aiming higher, 180 also puts you over ESUT’s minimum for Political Science and Mass Communication.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split you may have read about is federal university policy, and ESUT has not said it applies it. Plan to win on your score and your grades, wherever you come from.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Education Administration and Supervision

RequirementEducation Administration and Supervision
UTME subjectsUse of English plus any three of Literature in English, History, French, Geography or Physics, Economics and Mathematics
O’level (general rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics, or five TC II merit passes including English and Mathematics
ESUT remarkESUT does not insist on credit passes in Mathematics and Economics
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; two sittings is the common ceiling. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct EntryTwo A’level passes from Literature in English, History, CRK/IRS, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, with at least an O’level pass in Mathematics; or NCE merit in those subjects
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT (no interview or test)

These come from the JAMB brochure entry for Educational Administration and Supervision as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026). The only institution named in the entry’s remarks is ESUT, which says it does not insist on credit passes in Mathematics and Economics. Some fact sheets list “English plus any three subjects” for this course; the brochure’s list of six subjects is narrower, so pick your three from it.

That ESUT remark is generous, but use it as a safety net rather than a plan. You still need five credits in total including English Language, and the Direct Entry rule asks for at least a pass in Mathematics. A Mathematics credit also matters if CAPS moves you to Educational Management, where the UTME combination itself includes Mathematics and Economics.

ESUT’s advert says only that Direct Entry candidates are screened online and must be cleared on JAMB e-facility by their former institutions. If you hold an NCE, ask the faculty which level you would enter and which subject combinations it accepts.

How ESUT screening works for Education Administration and Supervision

These were ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening terms, taken from the official advert. The window has closed for this session, but they show you exactly what to prepare for the 2027/2028 round.

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for an Education Administration and Supervision candidate

Take Ebuka, who scored 178 in the 2026 UTME with B3, C4, C4, C5 and C6 in the five O’level subjects that count for Education Administration and Supervision.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 178 minus the 160 minimum = 18 marks above the line, so Ebuka could apply.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 178 ÷ 8 = 22.25 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 8 + 7 + 7 + 6 + 5 = 33 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 22.25 + 33 = 55.25 out of 100.

Now take Amarachi, who scored 166 with B2, B3, B3, B3 and C4. On the same method that gives 20.75 + 40 = 60.75, ahead of Ebuka despite a 12-mark gap in JAMB. If ESUT ranks on UTME score alone, the higher JAMB score wins instead. ESUT has not said which approach it uses, so the safe plan is to raise both your score and your grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Education Administration and Supervision at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English and three of Literature in English, History, French, Geography or Physics, Economics and Mathematics and choose ESUT and Education Administration and Supervision. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Education Administration and Supervision, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 provisional admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to finish admissions by 31 October 2026. If CAPS shows another course, such as Educational Management or Continuing Education and Development Studies, that is a separate offer: read the course name before you accept. Myschool also reported on 28 October 2026 that ESUT had released change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027; I have not seen their terms, so ask the admissions office before you rely on them.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Education Administration and Supervision at ESUT

Education Administration and Supervision sits in ESUT’s Faculty of Education. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State, and the education faculty is generally placed there, though the pages I checked do not confirm the department’s building. Nigerian B.Sc.(Ed.) and B.Ed. programmes through UTME normally run for four years, and they include a teaching practice placement in a school.

Expect the general education courses every ESUT education student takes, plus specialist courses in how schools are run and inspected. ESUT has not published its own outline, so this is the usual shape of the degree in Nigeria:

  • Education core: philosophy, sociology and history of education, educational psychology, curriculum studies, research methods and statistics.
  • School administration: principles of educational administration, school organisation, records and personnel management, school-community relations.
  • Supervision and inspection: instructional supervision, school inspection, staff appraisal and quality assurance.
  • Policy and law: educational policy in Nigeria, education law, leadership and decision making.
  • Economics of education: school finance, budgeting and resource management.
  • Practice: teaching practice in a school and a final-year research project.

Accreditation: After the National Universities Commission’s 2024 accreditation exercise, the Enugu State Government reported on 21 May 2025 that ESUT secured full accreditation for programmes in its Faculty of Education, alongside Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science and Administration. That report names faculties, not individual programmes, so I cannot confirm the grade for Education Administration and Supervision on its own. I found nothing suggesting the programme is suspended; it is listed in ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert.

Career paths after Education Administration and Supervision

  • Classroom teacher first, then vice-principal and principal (most school heads rise from teaching).
  • School supervisor or inspector with ministries of education, quality assurance departments and post-primary schools management boards.
  • Administrative officer in universities, colleges of education, polytechnics and examination bodies.
  • School owner or administrator in private schools.
  • Postgraduate study in educational administration, planning or policy.

To teach in a Nigerian school you will need to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) after graduation, which includes passing its professional qualifying examination. An education degree is the most direct route to that licence. Supervisory posts in public schools usually go to experienced teachers, so expect to teach for some years before you move into administration.

Mistakes Education Administration and Supervision applicants make

  • Picking UTME subjects outside the brochure list: choose your three from Literature in English, History, French, Geography or Physics, Economics and Mathematics.
  • Reading the ESUT remark as “Mathematics not needed”: it relaxes the credit, not the subject, and a Mathematics credit keeps Educational Management open.
  • Expecting a Post-UTME test: ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had none, so your JAMB score has to be ready.
  • Forgetting the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes it compulsory for every candidate.
  • Confusing the two administration courses on CAPS: Education Administration and Supervision and Educational Management are separate offers; read the course name before you accept.
