GOUNI Mathematics Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Mathematics Education is 150 and the form is free. See the JAMB name, the three-science O’level rule for GOUNI, UTME subjects, Direct Entry, fees and careers.

The GOUNI Mathematics Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu sets 150 for every programme in its Faculty of Education for 2026/2027, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a higher score for Mathematics Education. The application form is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The score is the easy part. Mathematics Education trips people up on subjects: JAMB lists the course for GOUNI as Education and Mathematics, and JAMB’s brochure carries a remark that applies only to GOUNI, asking for three other science credits on top of English and Mathematics. That is stricter than what most universities ask. Below I cover that rule, the UTME subjects, Direct Entry, how GOUNI decides, the fees and what the course leads to.

GOUNI has never published a separate Mathematics Education score that I could find. When a private university uses the national floor as its own minimum, the floor is the cut-off for planning purposes.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)

Mathematics Education does not attract the crowds that Computer Science or Nursing do, and GOUNI decides forms one by one rather than ranking everyone against a fixed quota on a set date. These bands are my own reading, not a GOUNI rule:

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Mathematics Education
Below 150Not eligible through UTME this year. Look at JUPEB at GOUNI or NCE then Direct Entry.
150 to 164Eligible. Your O’level is what decides it, so make sure the three science credits are there.
165 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI, and it also clears ESUT’s and UNN’s 160 screening floor.
180 and aboveComfortable anywhere in Enugu for this course. You might also look at GOUNI’s B.Sc. Mathematics if you are unsure about teaching.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Mathematics Education at GOUNI

JAMB’s brochure entry for Education and Mathematics has a long list of remarks for individual universities. GOUNI has one remark, on the O’level, and none on the UTME, so the general UTME line applies to you.

RequirementEducation and Mathematics at GOUNI
JAMB course nameEducation and Mathematics (Godfrey Okoye University)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology
O’level, JAMB general lineFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and one other science subject
O’level, GOUNI remarkGOUNI requires three other science subjects, so: English, Mathematics and three sciences at credit
GOUNI form pageFive credits in the course’s subjects, English and Mathematics included
Direct Entry, JAMB general lineTwo A-level passes, or NCE, in Mathematics and one science subject
JUPEB at GOUNIMathematics, Physics and Chemistry

What “three other science subjects” means in practice

Count your credits like this: English Language, Mathematics, then three from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics, Agricultural Science and similar science subjects. Economics, Geography, Civic Education and Commerce are not science subjects for this purpose. The remark does not list which sciences count, so if your third science is Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics, ask GOUNI by e-mail to confirm it is accepted. The safest set is Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Which UTME subjects to write

I would write English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. It meets the rule, it matches the JUPEB combination GOUNI uses for this course, and it keeps GOUNI’s B.Sc. Mathematics, Physics Education and Computer Science Education open if you change course later. Biology in place of Physics is allowed by JAMB, but a mathematics teacher needs Physics-style problem solving anyway.

Sittings and awaiting result

  • Number of sittings: neither the brochure remark nor the form page sets a limit for UTME candidates. Most GOUNI curricula ask for credits within two sittings, so keep to two.
  • Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME and fill the GOUNI form while waiting for WAEC or NECO, but nothing moves on CAPS until the result is uploaded.
  • D7 in Mathematics: not acceptable for this course. Mathematics must be a credit everywhere it is listed.

Direct Entry and JUPEB

NCE holders in Mathematics paired with a science (for example Mathematics/Physics or Mathematics/Chemistry) and A-level candidates with Mathematics and one science can apply on JAMB’s Direct Entry form. GOUNI’s form page simply tells DE applicants to use the current JAMB Direct Entry form, and it does not say whether DE students start at 200 or 300 level. Since JAMB’s June 2026 guide, colleges of education no longer admit anyone into 100 or 200 level degree programmes; everyone there enters through the NCE. That makes NCE then Direct Entry to a university such as GOUNI the normal path for teachers who start at a college.

GOUNI also runs JUPEB on campus. For Mathematics Education the subjects are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The programme lasts nine to eleven months, the on-campus form costs ₦10,000 and you need five credits in not more than two sittings.

How GOUNI screens Mathematics Education applicants

GOUNI does not run a Post-UTME test for its undergraduate courses on the official form page. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. Nothing on the page describes a written test, an interview or an aggregate score for Mathematics Education.

Because the reply comes by e-mail, use an address you open every day and type it with care. A single wrong letter and the offer never reaches you.

Worked example (illustrative)

GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks the score and subjects.

Chinonso scored 171 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His WAEC from one sitting shows B3 in Mathematics, C5 in English, C4 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry, B3 in Further Mathematics and C6 in Economics.

  1. Score: 171 is 21 above GOUNI’s 150.
  2. UTME subjects: Mathematics plus Physics and Chemistry fit JAMB’s rule.
  3. O’level: English and Mathematics, then Physics, Chemistry and Further Mathematics as his three sciences. Physics and Chemistry are safe. If GOUNI does not count Further Mathematics he still has only two clear sciences, so he should ask GOUNI or add Biology at the next NECO or GCE.
  4. Next step: fill the free form, watch his e-mail, accept on CAPS.

Ifeoma scored 158 with English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, and her NECO has credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography. She meets every line, including GOUNI’s three-science remark, even though her score is lower than Chinonso’s.

Admission odds and advice

  • The O’level decides it: at 150 and above, the three-science remark is the line that rejects people.
  • Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
  • Reply fast: GOUNI answers in about three working days, so an offer can come long before the big public universities move.
  • Ask before paying: confirm by e-mail anything that is unclear, such as whether your third science counts.
  • Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.

Who this course suits

I would recommend it to a candidate who enjoys explaining sums to classmates and wants a secure path into teaching, where Mathematics teachers are always short. If you love the subject but have no wish to teach, GOUNI’s B.Sc. Mathematics is the better fit, though its curriculum also asks for a Physics credit.

How to apply for Mathematics Education at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the course “Education and Mathematics”, and write English, Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
  4. Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI before admission lists are drawn up.
  5. Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, pick your course from the Faculty of Education list and submit. The form costs nothing for Education courses.
  6. Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only, then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

How much is Mathematics Education at GOUNI? (last published fees)

GOUNI’s newest fee schedule I could find is the 2025/2026 session fees structure. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so treat these as a guide to the size of the bill, and expect some change.

Item (2025/2026)AmountNote
Mathematics Education tuition₦631,200First of four yearly figures in the Education table, under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees”
Acceptance fee₦30,000100 level only
Matriculation fee₦20,000100 level only
Online course registration and ICT₦60,000Every level
Library fee₦20,000Listed in the general charges
Parents’ Forum fee₦10,000Listed in the general charges
Medical and drug test₦10,000100 to 300 level
Faculty and departmental fees₦5,000 and ₦3,000All faculties except Law

The schedule also lists smaller charges such as student affairs, sports, sanitation, entrepreneurship, health insurance and ID card fees. Tuition is paid per session: 60% in the first semester and the other 40% within three months of resumption. Other fees must be cleared before course registration. The document does not label which level each of the four Education figures belongs to, and it shows no separate hostel row, so ask the bursary what the tuition line covers before you budget.

Studying Mathematics Education at GOUNI

Is GOUNI Mathematics Education accredited?

  • GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, with no list of programme results or dates.
  • 2021 results: a Myschool report of 9 August 2021 listed 13 GOUNI programmes with full NUC accreditation, including three Education programmes. Mathematics Education was not among them, which only means it was not part of that list.
  • Curriculum: GOUNI has posted curricula for nine Education degrees on its CCMAS page, but none for Mathematics Education.
  • NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and I found no NUC report page that names a GOUNI Education programme.

So I am treating the NUC status of Mathematics Education as not confirmed. I found no report of a denied or suspended result either. The course is on every GOUNI list I checked, including the fee schedule, so it is running; ask the admissions office in writing about its accreditation before you pay tuition.

What you study

GOUNI has not posted a Mathematics Education curriculum, so I cannot give you its exact course list. Its other science education degrees follow a common pattern you can expect here too: 120 credit units for UTME entrants, education courses running beside the subject courses, Teaching Practice I (EDU 301) at 300 level, Teaching Practice II (EDU 401) at 400 level and a final-year project.

For the Mathematics side, GOUNI’s B.Sc. Mathematics curriculum shows the kind of courses the department teaches at 100 and 200 level. These are B.Sc. courses, and the Education version may take a smaller set of them.

LevelMathematics courses in GOUNI’s B.Sc. curriculum
100 levelElementary Mathematics I, II and III, Probability I, General Physics for Mathematics, Introduction to Computer Science, Problem Solving
200 levelMathematical Methods I, Elementary Differential Equations, Sets, Logic and Algebra, Linear Algebra I and II, Real Analysis I, Numerical Analysis, Vector Analysis, Probability II

The shared education courses in GOUNI’s other Education curricula include Introduction to Teaching and Foundations of Education, Sociology of Education in South-East Nigeria, Curriculum and General Teaching Methods, Micro-teaching, Educational Measurement, Tests, Research Methods and Statistics, and Psychology of Education.

Careers

Most graduates teach Mathematics or Further Mathematics in secondary schools after registering with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. Others coach for WAEC and JAMB, write lesson materials, move into data and statistics jobs, or go on to a master’s in Mathematics Education or Measurement and Evaluation.

Mistakes that cost Mathematics Education applicants a GOUNI place

  • Only two science credits when GOUNI’s remark asks for three.
  • Writing Economics or Geography in the UTME in place of a science.
  • Looking for “Mathematics Education” on JAMB and picking the wrong course; the JAMB name is Education and Mathematics.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
  • Missing the e-mail with the decision.
