The ICON Scholarship 2026 from White Avenue Group pays the first-year tuition of students newly admitted into Nigerian universities. Students from all 36 states and the FCT can apply, in any course, and the online form closes on 15 November 2026.
You apply through a Google Form and upload six documents, including a short letter about yourself. Some listings call the ICON Scholarship a full scholarship, yet the only benefit any of them describes is tuition for your entry year. No naira amount or number of winners has been published.

ICON Scholarship eligibility
- Nationality: Nigerian citizen.
- Admission: newly admitted into a Nigerian university, with a valid admission you can prove.
- State of origin: any of the 36 states or the FCT.
- Course: any degree programme.
“Newly admitted” means a 2026 admission. If you are already in 200 level or above, this one is not for you; the Wole Ogunyemi Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship is written for students further along. Federal university freshers with strong grades and financial need should also look at the Carewave Aspire Scholarship, which closes on 9 November.
Eligibility edge cases
- Admission offered but not yet accepted on CAPS: the form asks for an admission letter. Accept the offer on JAMB CAPS and print the letter before you apply, or you will have nothing valid to upload.
- Direct entry students: they are newly admitted but enter at 200 level, and they have no UTME slip. The call lists a JAMB result among the documents, and the DE result slip is also a JAMB document. The listings do not address this case, so email the organiser before applying.
- Polytechnic and college of education students: every listing says “university”. ND and NCE students do not fit the published wording.
- Private university freshers: the call says any Nigerian university. It does not say whether the tuition support is capped, which matters at a private university with high fees. Ask before you rely on it.
- Two-sitting O’Level results: the call asks for your WAEC or NECO result without mentioning one sitting. Upload both results if you used two.
Documents for the ICON Scholarship 2026
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| Valid means of identification | For example your NIN slip, voter’s card or international passport |
| University admission letter | From your university’s admission portal |
| WAEC or NECO result | Result printout or certificate |
| JAMB result slip | Printed from the JAMB e-facility portal |
| Birth certificate | Your official birth certificate |
| A short letter about yourself | Also called a cover letter |
Clear scans or phone photos are accepted. Make sure the names on all six documents match, and that what you type on the form matches them too. If your admission is still on “admission in progress”, our JAMB CAPS guide explains how to accept it and print your letters. If you need to reprint your UTME slip, see how to check and print your JAMB result.
Each Google Forms upload button shows the file types and maximum size the form owner allows, so check it before you scan. Save each document as one file, merge multi-page results into a single PDF, and name each file clearly before you start.
How to write the ICON Scholarship cover letter
The cover letter is the only part of the application where you speak for yourself, and with no exam or published scoring rubric it is likely to carry a lot of weight. White Avenue Group has not published a word limit or prompt. Keep it to one page, about 300 to 400 words.
- Opening: who you are, the university that admitted you and the course.
- How you got there: your UTME score and O’Level results, and anything you overcame to earn the admission.
- Your family’s situation: who pays your fees and why the first-year tuition is a real obstacle. Keep it factual.
- What the award would change: be specific about what you could then do.
- Your plans: what you want to do with the degree, and one way you already help others around you.
- Close: thank the reader, sign with your full name, phone number and email.
A sample opening, invented for illustration: “I have been admitted to study Nursing Science at the University of Ilorin for the 2026/2027 session after scoring 271 in UTME. I am the first in my family to gain university admission, and my mother, a petty trader in Offa, has told me honestly that she cannot raise my first-year fees before registration closes.” It says who you are, shows merit and states the need in two sentences. Use your own facts and your own voice.
Reviewers usually notice the same faults: letters copied from templates, long stories with no detail, begging tone and spelling errors. Read it aloud once before uploading; a plain, honest letter reads better than a dramatic one. Our scholarship letter guide has more on tone and layout.
How to apply for the ICON Scholarship 2026, step by step
- Scan your documents: all six items above, saved as clear PDFs or photos.
- Write and save your cover letter: as a PDF, so the formatting does not break.
- Sign in to Google: Google Forms asks you to sign in to a Google account before it lets you upload files.
- Open the form: the ICON Scholarship 2026 application form.
- Fill your details: name, state, university and course exactly as on your admission letter.
- Upload and submit: before 15 November 2026. You should see a confirmation screen when it goes through. Screenshot it.
- Write down the enquiry email: iconscholarship@whiteavenuemail.com, for questions about eligibility or selection.
Applying is free. Never pay anyone who offers to submit, “fast track” or guarantee your application.
White Avenue Group also has a page for the scholarship at whiteavenuegroup.com/the-icon-scholarship/. The Google Form is final on what you must provide.
Common mistakes with this application
- Uploading a provisional admission screenshot: upload the actual admission letter from your school portal or JAMB.
- Mismatched names: a middle name on the birth certificate but not on the JAMB slip is common. Explain the difference in your cover letter, or attach a sworn affidavit if you have one.
- Leaving the letter for last: it takes the longest to get right. Draft it first.
- Submitting from a borrowed Google account: any follow-up may go to that account’s owner.
- Paying fees before you hear back: if you can pay your school fees on time, do so. Do not miss your school’s registration deadline while waiting for a result.
What happens after you apply
Listings describe four stages: applications open, applications under review, an assessment phase and the announcement of winners. White Avenue Group has not published dates for any stage after the deadline, the selection criteria, whether there is an interview, or how winners will be told. Watch your email and phone after 15 November, and send polite questions to the enquiry email if you hear nothing for several weeks.
If you win, expect to give your school’s fee schedule or payment details so the tuition can be paid. Ask whether payment goes to the university directly or to you.
Costs the ICON Scholarship does not cover
- Acceptance fee, which most universities collect before the scholarship result is likely to be out.
- Hostel fees, feeding and transport.
- Textbooks, lab coats, medical tests and departmental dues.
- Tuition from 200 level onwards, since the award covers the entry year only.
ICON Scholarship compared with other awards for freshers
| Scholarship | Main benefit | Who it targets |
|---|---|---|
| ICON Scholarship | Entry-year tuition | Newly admitted university students, any course |
| Indomie Scholarship | Full tuition | New students |
| Rebecca Charles Trust Scholarship | Full tuition and monthly stipend | Freshers |
| Carewave Aspire Scholarship | ₦500,000 a year | Federal university students |
The same documents work for most of these, so a fresher can prepare once and apply to several. Check each post for the current deadline.
Who should apply, and who should not
Apply if you were admitted into a Nigerian university for the 2026/2027 session, your admission is accepted on CAPS, and paying first-year tuition is a genuine struggle for your family. Students at state universities with moderate fees may find the award covers the whole tuition bill.
Skip it if you are in 200 level or above, you were admitted to a polytechnic or college of education, or your fees are already paid by another scholarship. Leave the place for someone who needs it.
