Deadline

Most listings give 9 November 2026 as the closing date, and one gives 8 November. Submit by 8 November so the difference never matters. The date on the Carewave portal is final.

Who can apply for the Carewave Aspire Scholarship

  1. Nationality: Nigerian citizen.
  2. Age: 18 to 25 years old.
  3. Admission: admitted into an eligible federal university in Nigeria. Federal universities get priority.
  4. Grades: strong academic results. The programme listing sets a minimum CGPA of 4.5 on a 5.0 scale.
  5. Financial need: you come from a vulnerable or financially disadvantaged community and can show real need.
  6. Character: integrity, leadership potential and a clear commitment to your education.

Fresh students have no CGPA yet. The document list asks for your JAMB result slip and your WAEC or NECO result, so those are the grades the panel sees from a new student. If you are in a state or private university, read the form before you spend time on it, because the call is written for federal university students.

Eligibility edge cases

  • Turning 26 soon: Carewave has not said on what date your age is counted. If you turn 26 before 9 November 2026, I would assume you are out.
  • CGPA just under 4.5: the listing gives 4.5 as a minimum, so a 4.4 is a long shot even with strong need.
  • Students already in 200 level or above: the call talks about students admitted into federal universities, and the 4.5 CGPA rule only makes sense for students who already have one. Carewave has not said that only freshers may apply, but the JAMB documents on the list suggest new students are the main target.
  • Direct entry students: you will not have a JAMB UTME result slip in the usual form. Upload your direct entry admission documents and your A level, ND or IJMB result, and explain the gap in your motivational letter.
  • Admitted but fees not yet paid: that is exactly the situation the award is built for. Your admission letter is enough to show you got in.
  • Holders of another scholarship: no published rule bars you, but say so honestly in your financial need statement.

Who should apply, and who shouldn’t

Apply if you are aged 18 to 25, at a federal university, with top grades (a 4.5 CGPA if you are already in school, or strong JAMB and WAEC results if you are new), and your family genuinely struggles to pay. With only 20 places, the winners will be students who are excellent on paper and can document their need.

Skip it if you are over 25, at a private university, or well below the 4.5 mark. You will also struggle if you have no way to prove need; a well-paid parent with a stable salary is not what this panel is looking for. Your time is better spent on the scholarships in the comparison table below.

If you have not printed your JAMB admission letter, our JAMB CAPS guide shows how to accept your admission first. For the two letters, send your referees our scholarship recommendation letter samples so they know what to write.

Carewave has not published file formats or size limits; the call only asks that documents be clear and readable. Scan each one flat, save it as a PDF or a sharp JPG, and check you can read every figure on a phone screen before uploading.

What counts as proof of financial need

Write a short statement that explains who pays for your schooling, your household income, what your education costs and anything that makes it hard to pay. Then attach whatever evidence you have:

  • A parent or guardian’s payslip or other proof of income
  • A six-month bank statement or other record of household income
  • A letter from a local authority, school, church, mosque or community leader confirming hardship
  • Documents showing the loss of one or both parents
  • Any other credible evidence

I would write this statement first. It takes the longest to get right, and a letter from a community leader can take days to collect.

How to write the Carewave motivational letter

Carewave asks for a motivational letter but has not published a word limit or a prompt. One page, around 400 to 600 words, is a sensible length for a panel reading many applications. The selection criteria in the call tell you what to cover: academic record, financial need, integrity, leadership potential and commitment to education.

  1. Who you are: your course, university and your strongest result (JAMB score, WAEC grades or CGPA) in the first few lines.
  2. Why this course: one real reason, tied to something you have seen or done.
  3. Your situation: a short, factual summary of your family’s finances that matches your proof of need. Leave the full detail to the statement.
  4. Leadership and character: one or two examples, such as a class role, a church or mosque youth group, tutoring, or a job you held to support your family.
  5. Your plan: how you would use the ₦500,000 and the mentorship, and what you want to be doing in five years.

A sample opening

“I scored 312 in the 2026 UTME and was admitted to study Pharmacy at the University of Benin. My mother sells foodstuff in Uselu market and has paid for my three younger siblings’ schooling alone since my father died in 2021. I have my admission, but I do not yet have the acceptance fee.”

Those three sentences give the panel your merit, your course, your need and the urgency, which are the things the selection criteria ask about. Use your own facts, and make sure every claim matches a document you are uploading.

How to apply for the Carewave Aspire Scholarship

  1. Open the scholarship page: go to carewavefoundation.org/scholarships/SCH-2026-946543 and click Apply Now. It takes you to the sign-in page on portal.carewavefoundation.org.
  2. Create your account: use an email address and phone number you check every day.
  3. Fill the form: enter your personal and academic details exactly as they appear on your JAMB and WAEC or NECO documents.
  4. Upload your documents: all ten items in the table above, as clear scans or photos.
  5. Add proof of need: your statement plus supporting evidence.
  6. Review and submit: before 9 November 2026. Incomplete applications are not considered.
  7. Save proof: screenshot the submission screen and keep your login, since the portal shows your application status.

Applying is free. Never pay anyone who offers to submit, “fast track” or guarantee your application.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Missing one of the ten documents: the call says incomplete applications will not be considered. A missing birth certificate is enough.
  • Need with no evidence: a statement that says “my parents cannot afford it” without a letter, payslip or statement is weak next to applicants who prove it.
  • Recommendation letters from relatives: pick a teacher, lecturer, principal or community leader who can speak about your work and character.
  • Different names on different papers: if your JAMB slip, birth certificate and NIN slip spell your name differently, add a sworn affidavit or a short note.
  • A motivational letter that only talks about poverty: the panel also weighs merit and leadership.
  • Applying through a copied link: use the Carewave website, not a form shared in a group chat.

How Carewave selects and renews scholars

Applications go through four stages: screening, verification, assessment and final selection. The application tracker on the scholarship page shows the same path as Application Open, Under Review, Assessment Phase and Winners Announced. The panel weighs your academic record together with your family circumstances, and it may contact you for more information or to check your documents. Carewave has not published a date for announcing winners or said whether there is an interview.

To keep the scholarship after the first year you need to:

  • keep the minimum CGPA Carewave sets (the renewal figure has not been published)
  • stay in good standing and remain in the approved programme
  • send your transcripts and progress reports
  • take part in Carewave mentorship and scholar activities

Each scholar’s status is reviewed every year, so treat the award as something you re-earn each year.

Costs the ₦500,000 may not cover

For many federal university students ₦500,000 goes a long way, but it is a fixed sum and school charges vary. Depending on your course and city, you may still need money for:

  • Off-campus rent if you do not get a hostel space
  • A laptop, which many technology and engineering courses expect from 200 level
  • Clinical, laboratory or practical fees in health and science courses
  • Travel for SIWES or industrial training placements
  • Any session where your renewal is delayed or not approved

The facts here come from the Carewave Foundation scholarship page (ID SCH-2026-946543) as reported by ScholarshipAir (published 29 September 2026), After School Africa (2 October 2026), iCanStudent and Scholarship Region.
