The AKSU cut off mark for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering for 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. Akwa Ibom State University set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, for candidates who chose AKSU first, and it has not published a separate departmental figure for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering. JAMB lists it as “Chemical / Petrochemical Engineering”, and the NUC records list it as “Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering”, with Full accreditation.
2027/2028 update: AKSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Treat 150 as the score that lets you into screening. AKSU admits from the pool that clears it and does not publish the last score admitted into each course. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level subjects JAMB lists for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering, how AKSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the NUC records show for the course.

AKSU Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | AKSU general minimum for Post-UTME and DE screening (AKSU first choice) | Myschool reprint of the AKSU notice |
| 2026/2027 supplementary | 150 | Same minimum for the October supplementary round | Myschool, 20 October 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not found | No AKSU figure for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering | No source found |
| 2025/2026 (Health Sciences only) | Nursing 290; six other health courses 265 | Course minimums for the new Faculty of Health Sciences | Official AKSU advert, 3 January 2026 |
| 2026/2027 (MBBS only) | 290 | Minimum for Medicine and Surgery | Myschool reprint, 19 October 2026 |
The last two rows are there for contrast. AKSU does set higher course minimums when demand is heavy, as it did for Nursing, the other health courses and MBBS. It has not done that for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering, so 150 is the figure that applies. If a blog prints a higher “AKSU Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering cut-off” without an AKSU notice behind it, do not treat it as official.
Safe target score for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering at AKSU (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSU rule. Petrochemical engineering appeals strongly in an oil-producing state, so I expect it to be one of AKSU’s more competitive engineering courses.
| Your UTME score | My read for AKSU Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for AKSU screening |
| 150 to 179 | Eligible, but a place in this course is unlikely |
| 180 to 209 | Possible with excellent O’level grades |
| 210 to 239 | Competitive |
| 240 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 220, ideally 240, with credits (ideally B3 or better) in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Catchment and state of origin
AKSU is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It has not published a catchment list or a merit and catchment split, so I can’t tell you how much being from Akwa Ibom helps. Its January 2026 Health Sciences advert asked for a certificate of origin, so your state of origin is recorded at screening. Nothing in the notices I read limits admission to indigenes.
UTME subject combination and O’level for AKSU Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering
| Requirement | Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering at AKSU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry |
| O’level | Five credits including Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and English Language |
| Direct Entry | A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics |
| AKSU-specific remark | None on the brochure page for this course |
| Sittings | Not stated in the AKSU notices I read; one sitting is safest |
| Awaiting result | Not stated; your result must be on CAPS before AKSU can offer you admission |
The UTME line is the standard engineering one: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Chemistry matters more here than in any other AKSU engineering course, because mass transfer, reaction engineering and thermodynamics all build on it. Treat it as your strongest paper.
JAMB’s list for AKSU also shows a separate “Chemical Engineering” entry. AKSU’s faculty list has only Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering, so I would choose that name. If both appear on your JAMB form, ask AKSU which one it admits into.
How AKSU screening works for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering
AKSU’s 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted by Myschool, opened Post-UTME and Direct Entry registration to candidates who chose AKSU first and scored at least 150. No test format was published in any source I reached, so don’t assume a CBT until AKSU says so.

Worked example for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering
AKSU has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities turn the UTME score into a mark out of 50 (UTME divided by 8) and five O’level grades into another 50 (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use that method below only to show how the pieces add up. It is an illustration, not AKSU’s formula.
Take Ekaette, who scored 238 and has B3, B2, B3, A1 and B3 in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 238 minus 150 = 88. Ekaette clears AKSU’s minimum by 88 marks.
- UTME part (illustrative): 238 divided by 8 = 29.75 out of 50.
- O’level part (illustrative): 8 + 9 + 8 + 10 + 8 = 43 out of 50.
- Illustrative total: 29.75 + 43 = 72.75 out of 100.
- What I would advise: she is competitive for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering. I would keep it as her first choice.
Ekpo scored 191 with low credits in the sciences. On the same illustration that is 23.88 + 30 = 53.88. He qualifies, but he is below the range I expect to win places. He should accept a transfer to Agricultural or Marine Engineering if AKSU offers one on CAPS.
How to apply for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering at AKSU, step by step
- Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and make AKSU your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before AKSU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. AKSU cannot offer admission to a candidate whose result is missing on CAPS.
- Watch for AKSU’s screening notice: in 2026 it opened on 19 August and closed on 22 September, and a supplementary round followed in October. Check aksu.edu.ng from July 2027.
- Register and pay: on www.aksu.edu.ng/app, follow START NOW, Enroll and PUTME, fill the form, pay the ₦2,000 fee (2026 figure) and upload your scans. Print the confirmation slip.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer.
- Pay acceptance and clear: AKSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the AKSU portal, then complete clearance with your original documents.
Warning
Every genuine AKSU offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling “admission slots” or promising to “upgrade” a score for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering is not acting for AKSU. Pay only through invoices generated on the AKSU portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied for Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering this session, check CAPS for an offer or a transfer to another course. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
Studying Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering at AKSU
Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering is in AKSU’s Faculty of Engineering. AKSU has two campuses, Ikot Akpaden (the main campus, in Mkpat Enin LGA) and Obio Akpa (in Oruk Anam LGA), and no source I reached confirms which one the faculty uses. The degree is a B.Eng., which normally takes five years in Nigeria and includes industrial training (SIWES). To practise as an engineer after graduation you register with COREN, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. I found no COREN accreditation record for AKSU programmes, so that part is not confirmed.
NUC accreditation
The NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 list AKSU’s programme as “Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering” with two Full results, and a maturity date of 2026. Its next NUC visit was due in 2026, and the published results do not yet show the outcome.
What you study
- First two years: engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing and workshop practice.
- Chemical engineering core: material and energy balances, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and thermodynamics.
- Process engineering: reaction engineering, separation processes, process control and plant design.
- Petrochemical side: petroleum refining, petrochemical processes and natural gas processing.
- Final years: industrial training and a design project.
Careers
Chemical and petrochemical engineers work in refineries and gas plants, oil and gas operating and service companies, fertiliser, cement, food and pharmaceutical plants, and process design consultancies. COREN registration is needed to practise.

Mistakes that cost Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering applicants an AKSU place
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it gets you into screening, nothing more.
- Picking the wrong JAMB entry: JAMB lists both “Chemical Engineering” and “Chemical / Petrochemical Engineering” for AKSU; the faculty list uses the second.
- AKSU not first choice: both the main and supplementary 2026/2027 notices asked for AKSU as first choice.
- O’level not on CAPS: AKSU cannot admit you until it is there.
- Missing the window: the 2026 main screening ran for about five weeks. Late candidates had to wait for the supplementary round.
- Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at AKSU are separate steps.
If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if your score is in, see what to do with your JAMB score.

Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the AKSU first-choice rule, the ₦2,000 fee and the 19 August to 22 September 2026 window come from AKSU’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice as reprinted by Myschool (19 August 2026); abstechconnect reported the same figures. The supplementary round is from Myschool’s report (20 October 2026). The portal path, the document list and the 2025/2026 Health Sciences minimums come from AKSU’s official Health Sciences advert (3 January 2026), signed by the Registrar, Dr Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga. The MBBS figure of 290 is from Myschool’s reprint (19 October 2026). The subject lines are from the JAMB brochure entry for Chemical / Petrochemical Engineering on Myschool, which carries no AKSU-specific remark, and the course appears on Myschool’s copy of JAMB’s AKSU course list. The NUC status is from the NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026). The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline and the four-week acceptance window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026).
