There is no published AKSCOE cut off mark for Home Economics Education 2027/2028, and under the rules JAMB applied for 2026/2027 you do not need a UTME score to be considered. Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit (AKSCOE) lists Home Economics Education among its NCE courses on JAMB’s catalogue, and in May 2026 the Federal Government ruled that NCE candidates with at least four O’level credit passes no longer sit the UTME. You still register with JAMB, and the college can only admit you through JAMB CAPS. For Home Economics Education, credits in Home Management or Foods and Nutrition, Biology and Chemistry matter most.
2027/2028 update: AKSCOE admission requirements and the JAMB entry rules for NCE usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It is based on the 2026/2027 national NCE rules from JAMB and the Ministry of Education, because AKSCOE has not published its own notice. If the 2027/2028 rules change anything, we will update this page.
I could not find any AKSCOE notice that sets a cut-off, a departmental minimum or a screening score for Home Economics Education. The college’s website, akscoe.edu.ng, had no admission notice in its news section when I checked on 3 November 2026. So this page sticks to the official national position from JAMB and the Ministry of Education, what the college has said about itself, the subject pairings JAMB lists for AKSCOE, and the NCE registration steps JAMB published in 2026. Where something is my advice, I say so.

AKSCOE Home Economics Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | No UTME needed | NCE candidates with at least four credit passes exempted from UTME; JAMB registration and CAPS still required | Official federal policy (11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | AKSCOE’s own minimum for Home Economics | No AKSCOE figure found |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for colleges of education | Official (Nairametrics report of the July 2025 policy meeting) |
| Undated (old text) | 120 | NCE screening minimum in an o3schools post of 26 January 2026 that reuses 2020/2021 AKSCOE text | Unverified; not traced to a current AKSCOE notice |
You will see 120 quoted online as the AKSCOE NCE cut-off. It comes from a blog post that repeats the college’s old screening text from the 2020/2021 session, and I could not trace it to any current AKSCOE notice. The same post gives 180 for degree applicants, which no longer matters because JAMB ended degree admissions into colleges of education from 2026/2027. Under the 2026 rules a UTME score is not the test for NCE at all, so do not plan your Home Economics application around 120.
Do you need JAMB or UTME for Home Economics Education at AKSCOE?
You need JAMB. You do not need the UTME, as long as you have at least four O’level credit passes. Three official statements in 2026 set this out:
- 11 May 2026: at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said NCE candidates with a minimum of four credit passes would no longer sit the UTME, but must register with JAMB, with their results verified through CAPS before admission letters are issued.
- June 2026: JAMB’s NCE registration guide added that no 100 level or 200 level admission into any college of education is allowed from 2026/2027, affiliated degree programmes included. Everyone now enters a college of education through NCE.
- 23 July 2026: JAMB opened NCE registration without UTME at Institutional Professional Registration Centres (IPRCs) in colleges of education and at JAMB Professional Registration Centres.
Reports disagree on when the exemption started. Nairametrics’ 11 May 2026 report said it would apply from the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s June 2026 NCE guide and a Legit report of 23 July 2026 show it was already in use in 2026. For a 2027/2028 candidate both readings lead to the same answer: no UTME for NCE, but full JAMB registration.
What JAMB NCE registration costs
| Item | Amount | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| O’level verification code, one sitting | ₦1,500 | Every NCE applicant (bought from the exam body) |
| O’level verification code, two sittings | ₦2,000 | Applicants combining two results |
| JAMB NCE application fee | ₦3,500 | New NCE applicants who did not register for the 2026 UTME |
| CBT or IPRC registration charge | ₦700 | Every NCE applicant |
| Conversion of a 2026 UTME application to NCE | ₦700 only | Candidates who registered for the 2026 UTME with a college of education as first choice |
These are JAMB’s 2026/2027 amounts. The 2027/2028 guide may change them, so confirm at the centre before you pay. AKSCOE’s own screening or form fee is separate and has not been published.
Safe target for Home Economics Education at AKSCOE (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSCOE rule. With no UTME score in the NCE route, the college can only compare applicants on their O’level results and on any screening it runs. So your credits in English and in the subjects you plan to teach carry the weight a UTME score used to carry.
| Your O’level position | My read for AKSCOE Home Economics |
|---|---|
| Fewer than four credits | Not eligible for the no-UTME route; resit first |
| Four credits with no home economics subject or Biology | Weak |
| Five credits including English, Mathematics, Biology and one home economics subject | Meets both rules |
| Five or more credits, one sitting, with Foods and Nutrition or Home Management plus Biology and Chemistry at credit | Strong. This is what I would aim for. |
If you also write the 2027 UTME to keep a university option open, aim for at least 150, the 2026 national minimum for universities. That score serves the university route only. AKSCOE’s NCE admission does not depend on it under the 2026 rules.
UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for AKSCOE Home Economics Education
| Requirement | Home Economics Education at AKSCOE |
|---|---|
| UTME | Not required for NCE candidates with at least four credits (2026 policy) |
| UTME subjects (only if you register for the UTME) | Use of English and three of Biology, Chemistry, Economics or Home Economics (Food and Nutrition) (JAMB’s usual pattern for home economics education; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure) |
| O’level, AKSCOE’s own rule | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, at no more than two sittings of WAEC, NECO or NABTEB, according to an o3schools reprint of the college’s old screening notice. Not confirmed on a current AKSCOE notice |
| O’level subjects for Home Economics | English Language, Mathematics, Biology and at least one of Home Management, Foods and Nutrition or Clothing and Textiles; Chemistry helps (my reading; AKSCOE has not published a subject list) |
| O’level, 2026 federal exemption | At least four credit passes (subjects not named) |
| Exams JAMB verifies | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS, each with a verification code from the exam body |
| Awaiting results | JAMB will not let a college propose a candidate marked Awaiting Results until the result is uploaded |
| Direct Entry | No 100 or 200 level entry into any college of education from 2026/2027 (JAMB). NCE is the only way in |
Notice the gap between the O’level rows. The federal exemption speaks of four credits, while the old AKSCOE text asks for five including English and Mathematics. Until the college publishes a current rule, I would apply with five credits including English, Mathematics and the subjects you want to teach, so neither rule can be used against you.
How Home Economics appears on JAMB
| Course on JAMB | O’level credits I would have |
|---|---|
| Home Economics (Double Major) | English, Mathematics, Biology and a home economics subject |
JAMB lists Home Economics at AKSCOE as a double major, so it is your only teaching subject. That suits candidates who want depth in foods, clothing and home management rather than a second classroom subject.
AKSCOE screening and admission process for Home Economics Education
AKSCOE has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice in any source I reached. The most detailed description online is an o3schools post dated 26 January 2026. It is headed 2026/2027 but reuses the college’s 2020/2021 text, and it describes registration on a portal at aksco.mycportal.com, a screening fee paid at Zenith Bank into a college fees account, and a list of documents. None of that is confirmed for the current session, and I am not repeating the bank account number it prints. Pay nothing until the college itself confirms the portal and the amount.
Documents the old screening notice asked for
- Four recent passport photographs
- Photocopies of your O’level results
- Two files
- The screening schedule slip
- Your JAMB result slip (from the years when NCE candidates wrote UTME; a JAMB NCE registration slip is the likely replacement)
- Certificate of origin from your local government area
JAMB’s part is official. Under its 2026 NCE guide, the college’s Admission Officer proposes candidates on CAPS, the Provost recommends them, and JAMB checks each candidate’s O’level through the verification code against the exam body’s records before the offer appears on CAPS.
Worked example for a Home Economics applicant (illustrative)
AKSCOE has not published an aggregate formula, so there is nothing to compute. What you can do is test your results against both O’level rules and JAMB’s process. These examples are illustrations, not real applicants.
Ima has one NECO sitting: English C5, Mathematics C6, Biology C4, Chemistry C6, Foods and Nutrition B2, Home Management B3 and Civic Education C5.
- Credit count: seven credits.
- Five-credit check: English and Mathematics included, one sitting.
- Subject check: two home economics subjects at B grades plus Biology and Chemistry, an excellent fit.
- Process: NECO verification code (₦1,500), NCE registration with AKSCOE first (₦3,500 plus ₦700), then CAPS.
Unwana has English C6, Mathematics C5, Economics C4, Government C5 and Literature C6, no home economics subject. She meets both credit rules, so she is not ruled out, but I would expect the practical courses to be harder for her and would advise a quick sewing or catering course before resumption.
Your chances of admission into Home Economics Education at AKSCOE
AKSCOE does not publish applicant numbers. Home Economics is a smaller department in most colleges, and in my judgement a candidate with five clean credits including Biology who registers early with AKSCOE as first choice has a good chance.
- Make AKSCOE your first choice. JAMB sends each NCE registration to the first-choice college.
- Get the verification code right. CAPS compares it with the exam body’s record, and a mismatch stalls your file.
- Avoid registering as Awaiting Results if you can. The college cannot propose you until the result is uploaded.
- Watch the deadline. JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for colleges of education, so late registrants risk missing the list.
- Keep checking CAPS. The offer appears there and is not valid until you accept it.
How to apply for Home Economics Education at AKSCOE, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Buy your O’level verification code: from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS. JAMB lists ₦1,500 for one sitting and ₦2,000 for two. Have your exam number and year ready.
- Register for NCE at an IPRC or JAMB centre: log in to your e-Facility profile with the profile code, choose NCE registration, pay ₦3,500 plus the ₦700 centre charge, and pick AKSCOE as first choice with Home Economics. Your biometrics are captured and you get a slip.
- Upload your O’level: enter your results and the verification code at the centre. These are the results CAPS checks.
- Already wrote the 2026 UTME? If a college of education was your first choice, JAMB migrates your application. You add the verification code and pay ₦700 only.
- Complete AKSCOE’s own screening if it asks: the college has not confirmed a 2026/2027 portal or fee. Check akscoe.edu.ng or ask at the admissions office in Afaha Nsit before you pay anyone.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and school fees: AKSCOE has not published these for 2026/2027. Pay only through the channel on your admission letter or the college portal, and keep every receipt.
Warning
The Federal Government has said any admission done outside JAMB CAPS is illegal and will not be recognised. If someone offers you an AKSCOE NCE place that does not show on CAPS, or asks for money to “process” one, walk away.
Studying NCE Home Economics Education at AKSCOE
AKSCOE is the Akwa Ibom State Government’s college of education at Afaha Nsit, in the Nsit Ibom and Etinan area. The college’s own matriculation report says it was established on 10 January 1991, the first tertiary institution the state government set up. It runs five schools: Languages, Vocational and Technical Education, Science, Arts and Social Science, and Primary Education. At its November 2020 matriculation it admitted 1,482 students, 1,032 for NCE and 450 for degrees. Home Economics sits in the School of Vocational and Technical Education. The NCE normally takes three years full time; the college has not stated the duration on any page I reached.
What you study
- Foods and nutrition: food science, meal planning, catering and nutrition.
- Clothing and textiles: sewing, pattern drafting and textile care.
- Home management: family living, consumer education and resource management.
- Practicals: kitchen and sewing laboratory work.
- Education courses and teaching practice: methods of teaching Home Economics and a supervised period in a school.
Accreditation
NCE courses are regulated by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). In its November 2020 matriculation address the college said an NCCE visit had given it full accreditation in 23 academic programmes and full institutional accreditation, with some programmes on partial status. It did not name them, so the NCCE status of Home Economics Education is not confirmed. Ask the college before you accept an offer.
Careers and further study
- Teaching: Home Economics in junior secondary and Foods and Nutrition or Clothing and Textiles in senior schools.
- Registration: with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
- Other work: catering, fashion design, hospitality and running your own small business.
- Degree later: AKSCOE has run degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Uyo, and its continuing degree students were due to begin teaching practice on 26 January 2026 (according to a December 2025 report). JAMB stopped new degree admissions into colleges of education from 2026/2027, affiliated degrees included, so plan to take your B.Ed or B.Sc (Ed) at a university after the NCE. Mistakes that cost Home Economics applicants an AKSCOE place
- No Biology credit: nutrition courses lean on it.
- Underrating the practicals: kitchen and sewing work is graded.
- Waiting for a UTME score: under the 2026 rules NCE candidates with four credits do not need one, and waiting can mean missing the college’s window.
- Paying from an unverified link: the portal named in old blog posts is not confirmed for this session. Confirm with the college first.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee and registration at the college are separate steps.
AKSCOE cut off mark for Home Economics Education: frequently asked questions
Does AKSCOE offer Home Economics Education? Yes. JAMB lists Home Economics as a double major at AKSCOE.
What is the JAMB score for Home Economics in AKSCOE? None is needed under the 2026 rules if you have at least four O’level credits. AKSCOE has not published its own cut-off.
Can I study Home Economics at AKSCOE without Foods and Nutrition? Probably, if you meet the credit rules, but the college has not published its subject list. A home economics subject at credit makes your file stronger.

Sources and updates
The UTME exemption for NCE candidates with four credit passes, the JAMB registration and CAPS requirement, the 31 December 2026 deadline for colleges of education and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026 on the Minister of Education’s announcement at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, also reported by TheNigeriaLawyer. The fees, verification code, IPRC registration, CAPS proposal and recommendation, the Awaiting Results rule, the 2026 UTME conversion and the end of 100 and 200 level and affiliated admissions into colleges of education come from JAMB’s 2026 NCE and ND registration guide. The 23 July 2026 opening of NCE registration is from Nairametrics, and the 2025/2026 national minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The timing disagreement is between Nairametrics (11 May 2026) and the JAMB guide and Legit (23 July 2026). The founding date, the five schools, the 2020 matriculation figures, the University of Uyo affiliation and the NCCE accreditation statement come from AKSCOE’s own matriculation report (November 2020); Wikipedia also describes the affiliation. The Home Economics pairing comes from JAMB’s AKSCOE course list as reprinted by Myschool (checked 3 November 2026). The 120 figure, the portal and the document list come from an o3schools post of 26 January 2026 that reuses 2020/2021 text, and the teaching practice date from an abstechconnect report of 9 December 2025; both are third-party. UTME subjects are JAMB’s usual pattern and were not confirmed on the e-brochure. AKSCOE’s own cut-off, screening dates and fees were not published in any source reached. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when AKSCOE or JAMB publishes the 2027/2028 position.
