AKSCAS Nung Ukim Computer Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

The AKSCAS Computer Science cut off mark is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; no departmental figure is published. See the safe target, subject combination, O’level, screening and CAPS steps for 2027/2028.

The AKSCAS Computer Science cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, the national minimum JAMB set for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Akwa Ibom State College of Arts and Science, Nung Ukim, a state-owned college that NBTE lists among the polytechnics, has not published a departmental cut-off for Computer Science in any year I could trace. The course appears on JAMB’s list for the school as “Computer Science”, so ND admission runs through the UTME and JAMB CAPS.

2027/2028 update: AKSCAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They are based on JAMB’s 2026 national minimum for polytechnics, because AKSCAS has not published its own course cut-offs. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists it among the polytechnics (serial number 9) as Akwa Ibom State College of Arts & Science, Nung Ukim, Ikono LGA, P.M.B. 1044, Ikot Ekpene, state-owned and established in 1997. I could not find an official website, admission portal, fee list or 2026/2027 admission notice for the college. Do not confuse it with AKWATECH (Akwa Ibom State College of Science and Technology). At least one blog (teezab, 21 July 2026) mixes the two up and lists many more courses; I have not used it. So this page sticks to what JAMB and NBTE publish, gives you my safe target score, and tells you what to ask the school.

JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two sessions running. A polytechnic may set a higher mark of its own, but AKSCAS has never announced one that I could find, and it does not publish merit lists with scores. So 100 is the legal minimum, and anything above it improves your position.

Safe target score for Computer Science (my advice)

These bands are my judgement as an admissions adviser, based on how state polytechnic courses tend to fill. Computer Science is usually the most crowded science course in a polytechnic.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Computer Science at AKSCAS
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible, but borderline; confirm the course has space
120 to 134Fair chance if your O’level is strong
135 to 159Good chance
160 and aboveVery strong for this course

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 135 or more. If you land between 100 and that figure, still apply: at a state college your O’level grades, your subject combination and the screening will carry a lot of weight.

Computer Science subject combination and O’level requirements at AKSCAS

Use of English is compulsory for every UTME candidate, so JAMB’s brochure lists only your other three subjects. I read the Computer Science page on Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s polytechnic brochure on 3 November 2026. It has a remark that applies here; see below.

RequirementWhat it saysSource
UTME subjects (base rule)Use of English, plus Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics or ChemistryJAMB polytechnic brochure
O’level (base rule)Mathematics, a basic science and three others from Economics, Geography, Government or History, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, English Language and Typewriting. Credits in English Language and Physics are compulsoryJAMB polytechnic brochure
“AKCAS” O’level remarkCredits in Mathematics, one of Physics, Chemistry or Biology, and two from Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Statistics, Technical Drawing, Physics and Chemistry, with only a pass in English LanguageRemark on the brochure page for a school coded AKCAS; not confirmed to be this college
My recommended UTME setEnglish, Mathematics, Physics and ChemistryMy advice

There is a remark on the Computer Science page for a school coded “AKCAS” that would accept a pass (not a credit) in English. Myschool lists this college under the code AISCAS, so I cannot confirm the remark is about Nung Ukim. Do not rely on it. Get credits in English and Physics as the base rule demands, and you are covered whichever way JAMB reads it.

My recommendation is English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Physics is optional in the UTME line, but the O’level rule makes a Physics credit compulsory, so it makes sense to write it in the UTME too. Economics can replace Chemistry if that is your stronger subject.

O’level: Do not rely on the AKCAS pass-in-English remark; get the English and Physics credits the base rule asks for. Awaiting-result candidates can sit the UTME, but CAPS cannot offer you admission until your result is uploaded, so have it on the portal before the school’s list is processed.

Direct Entry and the HND route

There is no Direct Entry into the first year of an ND, and JAMB’s brochure leaves the Direct Entry section blank for this course. I found no evidence of HND programmes at AKSCAS, so ask before you plan around one. Under the standard NBTE rule, an HND needs an ND (usually Lower Credit or better) plus a year of industrial attachment, and you apply to the polytechnic directly, outside CAPS.

How admission screening works at AKSCAS

Test or interviewNot publishedAsk the admissions office
Ranking formulaNot publishedUnknown

Small Nigerian polytechnics usually sell a form, check documents and sometimes run a short written test or interview. AKSCAS has not said which it does. Ask the office these questions before you pay anything:

  • Is Computer Science admitting new ND students for 2027/2028, and does the programme have NBTE accreditation?
  • How much is the form, where do I pay, and when do sales close?
  • Is there a written test or interview, and on which subjects?
  • What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and is there a hostel?

Worked example for an ND Computer Science applicant (illustrative)

Take Uduak, who wants Computer Science at AKSCAS. Uduak scored 141 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Further Mathematics from one sitting.

  1. JAMB minimum: 141 minus 100 = 41. Uduak is eligible.
  2. My safe target: 141 against 135 is 6 above it.
  3. UTME subjects: they match the line in the table above.
  4. O’level: five credits that cover the compulsory subjects for Computer Science.

If AKSCAS used a 50:50 ranking, 141 divided by 8 gives 17.625 out of 50, and a screening score of 30 out of 50 would bring the total to 47.625. That formula is only an illustration of how such rankings work. AKSCAS has not published one, and many small polytechnics simply admit everyone who qualifies.

Your chances of getting Computer Science at AKSCAS

  • If you meet the subject rules and score 100 or more, your biggest risk is that the course may not be running this year. Confirm that first.
  • Computer Science is usually the most crowded science course in a polytechnic, so a score near my target of 135 gives you room if the department has more applicants than places.
  • Candidates from Ikono, Ikot Ekpene, Itu, Ini and Essien Udim save on transport and rent by studying close to home, which adds up over a two-year ND.
  • JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so offers for current candidates can come late. Keep checking CAPS until then.

How to apply for Computer Science at AKSCAS, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Computer Science with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and pick Akwa Ibom State College of Arts and Science (short code AISCAS) as your polytechnic.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: if AKSCAS was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before screening. To move into Computer Science from another course, see JAMB change of course.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out.
  5. Contact the college: go to the campus at Nung Ukim, Ikono LGA, confirm that your course is admitting, ask how the form is sold and keep every receipt.
  6. Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts from the bursary in writing, pay through the channel the school names, then complete medical and departmental registration.

Warning

AKSCAS has no official website that I could find, so any page, WhatsApp group or agent selling its forms online may have nothing to do with the college. Buy forms only at the college, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.

Studying Computer Science at AKSCAS

The school has not published its faculty structure, so I do not name the school or department this course sits in. AKSCAS has not published a course outline, so the list below is the usual NBTE pattern for ND Computer Science in Nigerian polytechnics.

What you study

  • Programming (commonly Python, Java or C)
  • Data structures, algorithms and database design
  • Systems analysis and design
  • Web design and development
  • Computer hardware, operating systems and networking basics
  • Mathematics and statistics for computing
  • SIWES placement and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Under the standard NBTE structure, the ND runs for two years full time, with a SIWES placement. Students who want the HND then do a one-year industrial attachment before applying, and the HND usually asks for an ND at Lower Credit or above. AKSCAS is in NBTE’s 2020 Directory (state-owned, established 1997), which confirms the school itself. I could not confirm the NBTE status of ND Computer Science specifically. That matters: an ND from a programme NBTE has not accredited can cause problems when you apply for an HND or a job. Ask the department for its accreditation letter before you pay fees.

Careers after the ND

  • IT support and help-desk technician
  • Junior web or software developer
  • Network and computer maintenance assistant
  • Data entry, records and computer operator roles
  • Computer training and business centre work
  • HND Computer Science, then certifications or a degree

To compare the same course at other Akwa Ibom polytechnics, see the Federal Poly Ukana cut-off mark for Computer Science and the Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off mark for Computer Science.

For revision, start with the JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants

  • Choosing Biology in the UTME: Biology is not on JAMB’s Computer Science line for polytechnics.
  • No Physics credit: Physics is optional in the UTME but compulsory at O’level, and this catches many candidates.
  • Further Mathematics in the UTME: it is useful at O’level but it is not one of the UTME options.
  • Aiming too close to 100: Computer Science is crowded, so a bare pass leaves you exposed to a move to another course.
  • No O’level on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer until your result is uploaded.

AKSCAS Computer Science: frequently asked questions

What subjects do I need for Computer Science in AKSCAS? Use of English, Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics or Chemistry. English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry is the safest set, because Physics is compulsory at O’level anyway.

Is 125 enough for Computer Science at AKSCAS? It clears JAMB’s minimum of 100, and AKSCAS has published no higher figure. It is a little below my safe target of 135, so a strong O’level result and a good screening will matter.

Can I study Computer Science at AKSCAS without Physics? Not really. Physics is optional in the UTME, but JAMB’s O’level rule for polytechnic Computer Science makes a Physics credit compulsory.

Is Computer Science at AKSCAS accredited? AKSCAS itself is in NBTE’s 2020 Directory (state-owned, established 1997). I could not confirm the accreditation of ND Computer Science specifically, so ask the department for its NBTE letter before you pay fees.

Sources and updates

The 2026/2027 polytechnic minimum of 100, the 31 December 2026 deadline and JAMB’s warning against admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025/2026 figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The course name is from the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for the school. JAMB’s subject and O’level rules are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB polytechnic brochure page for Computer Science, which I checked on 3 November 2026, with the remark for a school coded AKCAS. The college’s details are from NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes (polytechnic list, serial number 9) and Wikipedia’s list of polytechnics in Nigeria. The safe target, the worked example and the ranking illustration are my own advice. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when AKSCAS publishes a 2027/2028 notice.
