UNIUYO Chemistry Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO’s cut-off mark for Chemistry Education is 150 (first choice only). The course had spare places in 2023/2024 and holds full NUC accreditation. My safe target is 170.

The UNIUYO Chemistry Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Chemistry Education, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Chemistry Education at UNIUYO is 170.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Chemistry Education trains secondary school chemistry teachers. At UNIUYO it is one of the original B.Sc. (Ed) programmes of the Department of Science Education, which dates back to 1983, and JAMB lists it for UNIUYO as Education and Chemistry. It had spare places in UNIUYO’s last published supplementary round. Here are the official figures, my safe target, the subject rules, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

2025/2026150Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choiceReported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen
2023/2024 supplementary140Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Education and Chemistry was on the listOfficial UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023)

UNIUYO’s minimum has been 150 for two sessions. The useful extra clue is the 2023/2024 supplementary exercise, when UNIUYO invited candidates with 140 or more who had missed their first course to move into programmes with spare places. Education and Chemistry was on that list, so it still had room after the main round. That is why my target for this course is modest.

Safe target score for Chemistry Education at UNIUYO (my advice)

UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Chemistry Education, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Chemistry Education
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening
150 to 169Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level grades are clean and the subjects fit
170 to 189Good chance. This is the range I would aim for
190 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. Education and Chemistry was on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, so it still had places after the main round. Clean science credits matter as much as the score.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Chemistry Education

RequirementChemistry Education at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, plus two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics (JAMB’s usual combination; the brochure page’s UTME section was blank when I checked)
O’level (JAMB general)Five credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, English Language and two of Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science
UNIUYO O’level remarkNone
Direct Entry (JAMB general)Two A-level or NCE passes including Chemistry and one other science subject
Direct Entry (UNIUYO remark)NCE in relevant subjects with overall merit or above (three-year degree), or two A-level or JUPEB passes in relevant subjects

JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook, and Myschool reprints it, but the UTME section of the Education and Chemistry page was empty when I read it on 3 November 2026. I have given JAMB’s usual combination; confirm it on your JAMB e-Facility profile before registering.

The O’level line is clear: Mathematics, Chemistry and English, plus two of Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science. UNIUYO adds no O’level remark here, so Agricultural Science can be one of your two.

Direct Entry into Chemistry Education

UNIUYO’s DE remark accepts an NCE with overall merit or above in relevant subjects, leading to a three-year degree, or two A-level or JUPEB passes in relevant subjects. JAMB’s general line asks for Chemistry and one other science.

A note on timing for anyone also weighing a college of education. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates from the UTME (Nairametrics read it as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE guide applied it in 2026), and colleges of education stopped admitting straight into degree programmes from 2026/2027. An NCE with merit remains a recognised Direct Entry route into UNIUYO’s Education degrees, so a three-year NCE followed by DE is a real alternative if your UTME score is low.

How UNIUYO screening works for Chemistry Education applicants

Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.

Admission deadlineJAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passedJAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026

Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.

Worked example for a Chemistry Education candidate

UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.

  1. Candidate: Idongesit scored 173 with C4 in English, C5 in Mathematics, B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Physics and C6 in Agricultural Science from one sitting.
  2. Eligibility: 173 minus 150 = 23. Idongesit clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 23 marks and can apply.
  3. Against my safe target: 173 minus 170 = 3. Idongesit is 3 marks above my safe target.
  4. O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and two of the named sciences.
  5. My advice: he is above my target and should keep the course first.

Comfort scored 159. 159 minus 150 = 9, so she can apply. On the 2023/2024 pattern she could still be considered, possibly in a supplementary round, but she is 11 marks under my target.

Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Chemistry Education

Chemistry Education is a realistic course at UNIUYO for candidates in the 160s and 170s with good science credits.

Chemistry teachers are scarce in many Nigerian secondary schools, especially outside the cities, and science education graduates also find work in laboratories and industry.

For the UTME, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus and JAMB Biology syllabus are good places to start.

There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.

How to apply for Chemistry Education at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Education and Chemistry with English, Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
  4. Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
  5. Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Studying Chemistry Education at UNIUYO

UNIUYO’s Science Education department began in 1983 as a unit of the Faculty of Science at the University of Cross River State, offering B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry from the start, and became an autonomous department in the Faculty of Education in 1994. UTME entrants normally spend four years; NCE holders three.

Accreditation

The NUC’s published accreditation report for UNIUYO’s Chemistry Education programme gives it Full status with a score of 84%, after a visit in 2024 (the report prints the date as “24-29-2024”) (NUC report). Full is the NUC’s top grade. UNIUYO’s B.Sc. Chemistry also holds Full accreditation (81%, December 2024).

Mistakes that cost Chemistry Education applicants a UNIUYO place

  • No Mathematics credit: JAMB’s O’level line requires it.
  • Not checking the UTME line on JAMB’s site: the reprint’s UTME section is blank.
  • Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
  • Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.

If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.
