UNIUYO Geophysics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

UNIUYO needs at least 150 in the UTME for Geophysics, with UNIUYO first choice. Here is a safe target score, the subjects, the NUC result and the screening steps.

The UNIUYO Geophysics cut off mark for 2027 planning starts at 150 in the UTME. That is the only minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applied to every course, Geophysics included, for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. UNIUYO did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Geophysics.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Geophysics is one of the less common degrees in Nigeria, and UNIUYO is one of the universities that runs it, in the Faculty of Physical Sciences. It applies physics and mathematics to the earth, and it feeds straight into oil and gas exploration. Below are the figures, a safe target, the subjects and the screening steps.

Geophysics was one of the courses with vacancies in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission (listed as “Geophysics”), which invited screening candidates with 140 and above who had missed their first-choice course. That tells you the course did not fill completely from first-choice applicants that year. Few candidates choose it first, which works for those who do.

Some blogs print a list of UNIUYO departmental cut-offs with a number for each course. None of those lists points to a UNIUYO document, so I don’t use them here and I wouldn’t plan around them.

Why 150 is not the score that gets you admitted

UNIUYO does not publish a Geophysics closing score. The course had places to fill in the 2023/2024 supplementary round, and it usually attracts fewer applicants than Geology because fewer candidates know about it. The demands of the course are high, though, so the department still wants strong Mathematics and Physics.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed, and UNIUYO is a federal university. Late or supplementary offers can still show up on JAMB CAPS after a main list, so 2026 candidates should keep checking CAPS. For everyone else, the planning is for the 2027 UTME and the 2027/2028 session.

Safe target score for Geophysics at UNIUYO (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, built on the 150 minimum, how Geophysics usually compares with other UNIUYO courses, and what supplementary notices have shown. It is not a UNIUYO rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Geophysics
Below 150Not eligible. UNIUYO only screened candidates with 150 or more.
150 to 179Eligible and possible, depending on O’level grades and how many candidates apply that year.
180 to 199Competitive. This is my safe target score.
200 and aboveStrong. You should be in a good position if your O’level and subjects are right.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180, with B grades in Mathematics and Physics. Above 200 you should be in a strong position.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Geophysics

RequirementGeophysics at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English plus three from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics as printed in the brochure; the safe set is Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Biology
UNIUYO remarkNone on the brochure page
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE
Direct EntryA level passes in Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics

The brochure line for Geophysics prints “Physics Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics” without saying which three to pick. Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry is the set that fits the course and keeps Geology and Physics open. Confirm the UNIUYO line on your JAMB e-brochure before you register.

At O’level, Mathematics and Physics are the subjects to protect. Have Chemistry as well; it is required in the general rule for most physical sciences.

Direct Entry into Geophysics

Direct Entry needs A level passes in Chemistry and in Physics or Mathematics. There is no UNIUYO-specific DE remark on the Geophysics brochure page.

How UNIUYO screening works

UNIUYO runs one Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening exercise for all courses. Here is what the 2026/2027 exercise looked like.

Aggregate formulaNot published
Closing dateFriday 7 August 2026 according to abstechconnect; not on the official page

Because UNIUYO has not said whether the regular screening includes a written test, prepare as if there is one. Revise your four UTME subjects and keep your O’level result, UTME result slip and any other document the portal asks for ready as clear PDFs. The guidelines page on eportals.uniuyo.edu.ng is the place to check once the 2027/2028 form opens.

Worked example for a Geophysics candidate

UNIUYO has no published aggregate formula, so the useful calculation is the gap between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target. The figures below are illustrations, not UNIUYO results.

Take Godswill, who scored 189 with C4 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, C4 in Chemistry and C5 in Biology.

  1. Eligibility: 189 minus 150 = 39. Godswill clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 39 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 189 minus 180 = 9. Godswill is 9 marks above the score I treat as competitive.
  3. O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  4. What I would advise: choose Geophysics as first preference; he sits in my competitive band.

Uduak scored 157. 157 minus 150 = 7, so she can register for screening. She is 23 marks below my target. She can still be admitted in a year with few applicants, and a supplementary round is worth watching.

How to apply for Geophysics at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Geophysics with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, and make UNIUYO your first choice.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. UNIUYO cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  4. Create your screening account: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng when the Post-UTME notice is out, create an account and verify your email.
  5. Pay the fee: generate a Remita RRR on the portal and pay (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, per reprints).
  6. Complete the form and print your slip: fill the application form, upload your documents in PDF and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in the official pages I reached, so confirm the amount on the UNIUYO portal before you pay anything.

Warning

UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 screening notice was open only to candidates who chose UNIUYO as first choice. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens, or you may not be able to register at all. Pay only through the Remita RRR generated on the UNIUYO portal.

If you need to fix your choice of school or course, read our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course.

Other ways into Geophysics at UNIUYO

UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, describes two one-year programmes that feed into degree courses.

  • Basic Studies: open to all faculties. You need five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and no JAMB score is required. Successful students can move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course rules. The form cost ₦15,500 (the advert prints it as “N15,5000”).
  • Pre-Degree: for science, agriculture and education programmes only. It needs five credits including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and uses a CBT. The form cost ₦10,500. The advert’s wording on whether a UTME score is needed contradicts itself, so ask the admissions office before you rely on this route.

For 2026/2027, registration for both closed on 30 September 2026 and the screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026. Expect similar timing in 2027, but wait for the new advert.

Studying Geophysics at UNIUYO

Geophysics is in the Faculty of Physical Sciences. A B.Sc. in Geophysics normally takes four years in Nigeria, with field work and industrial training; UNIUYO did not confirm the duration in the pages I reached.

Accreditation

NUC’s accreditation report gives University of Uyo Geophysics Full accreditation with a score of 82.64%, after a visit dated 27 March 2025.

What you study

  • Calculus, mechanics, electricity and magnetism
  • Introductory geology and earth structure
  • Seismic refraction and reflection methods
  • Gravity, magnetic, electrical resistivity and electromagnetic surveys
  • Well logging and geophysical data processing
  • Field surveys, programming and a final-year project

Careers after Geophysics

Geophysicists work in seismic data acquisition and processing, oil and gas exploration, groundwater surveys for boreholes, engineering site investigation, mining exploration and research. Programming and data skills learned in the course also carry into general data work.

For UTME revision, use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Geophysics applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Registering Biology in place of Physics or Mathematics: the course is built on both.
  • A weak Mathematics grade: a bare C6 makes the first two years hard, even if it meets the rule.
  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
  • Making UNIUYO your second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened 1st-choice candidates only.
  • No O’level on CAPS: an offer cannot be completed without it.
  • Ignoring the supplementary exercise: UNIUYO has run one in past sessions for candidates who missed their first-choice course.

If you are writing the UTME again, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result and use the score.

UNIUYO Geophysics cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Is Geophysics offered in UNIUYO? Yes. It is listed under the Faculty of Physical Sciences in UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 advert, and NUC accredited it in 2025.

Is 170 enough for Geophysics in UNIUYO? It clears the 150 minimum and is close to my 180 target. With good Mathematics and Physics grades you have a fair chance.
