AKSU Education and Mathematics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

AKSU’s cut-off mark for Education and Mathematics is 150 (2026/2027 figure for 2027/2028 planning). Subjects, O’level, NUC status, screening, worked example and CAPS steps.

The AKSU cut off mark for Education and Mathematics for 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. Akwa Ibom State University set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, for candidates who chose AKSU first, and it has not published a separate departmental figure for Education and Mathematics. The NUC records list it as “Education Mathematics”, with Full accreditation. Education degrees at universities still go through the UTME. The 2026 rule that exempts NCE candidates from the UTME applies to colleges of education only.

2027/2028 update: AKSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Treat 150 as the score that lets you into screening. AKSU admits from the pool that clears it and does not publish the last score admitted into each course. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level subjects JAMB lists for Education and Mathematics, how AKSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the NUC records show for the course.

The last two rows are there for contrast. AKSU does set higher course minimums when demand is heavy, as it did for Nursing, the other health courses and MBBS. It has not done that for Education and Mathematics, so 150 is the figure that applies. If a blog prints a higher “AKSU Education and Mathematics cut-off” without an AKSU notice behind it, do not treat it as official.

Safe target score for Education and Mathematics at AKSU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an AKSU rule. Few candidates choose Mathematics education first, and the course is usually under-subscribed at state universities.

Your UTME scoreMy read for AKSU Education and Mathematics
Below 150Not eligible for AKSU screening
150 to 169Eligible; a place depends on how many others apply and on your O’level grades
170 to 189Reasonable chance with good O’level grades
190 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 190, with credits (ideally B3 or better) in English Language and Mathematics, plus Physics.

Catchment and state of origin

AKSU is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It has not published a catchment list or a merit and catchment split, so I can’t tell you how much being from Akwa Ibom helps. Its January 2026 Health Sciences advert asked for a certificate of origin, so your state of origin is recorded at screening. Nothing in the notices I read limits admission to indigenes.

UTME subject combination and O’level for AKSU Education and Mathematics

RequirementEducation and Mathematics at AKSU
UTME subjectsUse of English plus Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and one other science subject
Direct EntryTwo A-level or NCE passes in Mathematics and one science subject
AKSU-specific remarkNone on the brochure page for this course
SittingsNot stated in the AKSU notices I read; one sitting is safest
Awaiting resultNot stated; your result must be on CAPS before AKSU can offer you admission

Mathematics is the anchor, with two of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I would choose Physics as one of them: much of first-year university mathematics is applied to mechanics, and Physics students handle it more easily.

The O’level line is short: English, Mathematics and one other science among your five credits. A strong Mathematics grade (B3 or better) matters more here than in most courses, because the department will be judging whether you can teach it.

How AKSU screening works for Education and Mathematics

AKSU’s 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted by Myschool, opened Post-UTME and Direct Entry registration to candidates who chose AKSU first and scored at least 150. No test format was published in any source I reached, so don’t assume a CBT until AKSU says so.

Worked example for Education and Mathematics

AKSU has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities turn the UTME score into a mark out of 50 (UTME divided by 8) and five O’level grades into another 50 (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). I use that method below only to show how the pieces add up. It is an illustration, not AKSU’s formula.

Take Ubokobong, who scored 178 and has C4, B2, B3, C5 and C4 in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Economics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 178 minus 150 = 28. Ubokobong clears AKSU’s minimum by 28 marks.
  2. UTME part (illustrative): 178 divided by 8 = 22.25 out of 50.
  3. O’level part (illustrative): 7 + 9 + 8 + 6 + 7 = 37 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 22.25 + 37 = 59.25 out of 100.
  5. What I would advise: he is in my reasonable-chance band, and his strong Mathematics grade helps. I would keep the course.

Affiong scored 162 with a C6 in Mathematics. On the same illustration that is 20.25 + 28 = 48.25. She qualifies on score, but a C6 in Mathematics is weak for a Mathematics teaching degree. If she has a chance to resit Mathematics, I would take it.

How to apply for Education and Mathematics at AKSU, step by step

  1. Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: choose Education and Mathematics with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Biology), and make AKSU your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before AKSU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. AKSU cannot offer admission to a candidate whose result is missing on CAPS.
  4. Watch for AKSU’s screening notice: in 2026 it opened on 19 August and closed on 22 September, and a supplementary round followed in October. Check aksu.edu.ng from July 2027.
  5. Register and pay: on www.aksu.edu.ng/app, follow START NOW, Enroll and PUTME, fill the form, pay the ₦2,000 fee (2026 figure) and upload your scans. Print the confirmation slip.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: AKSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the AKSU portal, then complete clearance with your original documents.

Warning

Every genuine AKSU offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling “admission slots” or promising to “upgrade” a score for Education and Mathematics is not acting for AKSU. Pay only through invoices generated on the AKSU portal.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied for Education and Mathematics this session, check CAPS for an offer or a transfer to another course. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Education and Mathematics at AKSU

Education and Mathematics is in AKSU’s Faculty of Education. AKSU has two campuses, Ikot Akpaden (the main campus, in Mkpat Enin LGA) and Obio Akpa (in Oruk Anam LGA), and no source I reached confirms which one the faculty uses. The degree is a B.Sc.(Ed.), which normally takes four years and includes supervised teaching practice in secondary schools. You graduate qualified to teach Mathematics, and you register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to practise.

NUC accreditation

The NUC accreditation results for 1990 to 2025 list AKSU’s programme as “Education Mathematics” with two Full results, and a maturity date of 2026. Its next NUC visit was due in 2026, and the published results do not yet show the outcome.

What you study

  • Mathematics content: calculus, algebra, real analysis, statistics, mechanics and numerical methods.
  • Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum studies and measurement and evaluation.
  • Teaching methods: methods of teaching mathematics and using instructional materials.
  • Teaching practice: supervised teaching in secondary schools.
  • Final year: an education research project.

Careers

Mathematics teachers are in demand in public and private secondary schools. Graduates also work as examiners, data and statistics assistants, tutors and curriculum developers, and some move into banking or IT with further training.

Mistakes that cost Education and Mathematics applicants an AKSU place

  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it gets you into screening, nothing more.
  • Weak Mathematics grade: a bare C6 in the subject you plan to teach is a poor start, even if it meets the line.
  • AKSU not first choice: both the main and supplementary 2026/2027 notices asked for AKSU as first choice.
  • O’level not on CAPS: AKSU cannot admit you until it is there.
  • Missing the window: the 2026 main screening ran for about five weeks. Late candidates had to wait for the supplementary round.
  • Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: the acceptance fee and clearance at AKSU are separate steps.

If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if your score is in, see what to do with your JAMB score.
