ASCONS Yola Community Nursing and Midwifery Requirements 2027/2028

Adamawa State College of Nursing Sciences runs NMCN-approved Community Nursing and Community Midwifery. See the last reported O’level rule, indigene requirement, documents, exam steps and how it compares with ND Nursing for 2027/2028.

Adamawa State College of Nursing Sciences Community Nursing and Community Midwifery admission requirements, as last reported for 2024/2025, were four O’level credits including English and Biology plus two other subjects, Adamawa State indigeneship, an online form with uploaded documents, and an entrance exam followed by an interview. No JAMB requirement was mentioned. Both programmes are on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s (NMCN) approved list for the college.

2027/2028 update: Adamawa State College of Nursing Sciences admission requirements and entrance exam process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the details on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notice reported (the 2024/2025 community programmes notice). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The college, in Yola, was formerly the Adamawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery and was renamed by a 2024 state law. Some searches use the name “College of Health Technology Wuro Hausa”; we could not match that name to a separate institution. The details below come from a blog reprint of the 2024/2025 notice, because I could not open the college’s own notice and found no newer one for these programmes.

Is there a cut-off mark for Community Nursing?

No UTME cut-off was mentioned for the community programmes, and the college has not published an entrance exam pass mark. Admission rests on your O’level, the entrance exam and the interview. If the college moves these programmes onto JAMB in future, JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum for colleges of nursing is 150, which is the figure the college uses for ND Nursing.

What I would present (my advice)

Your O’level positionMy read
Fewer than four credits, or no Biology creditShort of the reported rule; resit first
Four credits including English and BiologyMeets the reported rule
Five credits including English, Biology, Mathematics and ChemistryStrong, and keeps the ND Nursing route open
Not an Adamawa indigeneNot eligible for Community Nursing under the 2024 notice; look at ND Nursing

Community Nursing and Community Midwifery: what they are

Both are NMCN programmes for primary health care. Community nurses work in health centres and homes on immunisation, family health, health education and simple treatment. Community midwives provide antenatal care, normal deliveries and postnatal care, especially in rural areas, and refer complicated cases. Both lead to NMCN registration in their own category, which is different from registration as a general nurse or midwife.

  • Community Nursing: primary health care, maternal and child health, immunisation, home visits and community diagnosis.
  • Community Midwifery: pregnancy care, normal labour and delivery, newborn care, family planning and referral.
  • Clinical practice: postings to health centres and community sites.
  • Licensing: NMCN professional exams at the end of the programme.

The college has not published the duration of either programme in any source I reached.

How the 2024/2025 application worked

  1. Apply online: on the college portal, uploading the documents listed above.
  2. Print the completed form: and submit it at the college by the deadline (6 September 2024 in that cycle).
  3. Sit the entrance exam: held on 16 September 2024.
  4. Attend the interview: for candidates who passed the exam.
  5. Check the admission list and accept.

Worked example (illustrative)

Rahila is from Mubi North LGA, Adamawa State. Her NECO result has English C6, Biology C5, Civic Education B3, Hausa C4 and Mathematics D7. She wants Community Nursing.

  1. Indigene check: she gets her indigene letter from her local government.
  2. O’level check: English and Biology plus Civic Education and Hausa are four credits. That meets the reported rule.
  3. Documents: birth certificate, primary school certificate, testimonial and four passport photographs, scanned for upload.
  4. Next step: she watches for the 2027/2028 notice and confirms the fee with the college before paying.

How to apply for 2027/2028, step by step

  1. Watch for the notice: the college has not published 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 dates for these programmes in any source I reached. Ask at the college in Yola.
  2. Get your indigene letter early: from your local government council, if you are applying for Community Nursing.
  3. Scan your documents: birth certificate, indigene letter, primary school certificate, testimonial, O’level and passport photographs.
  4. Pay only through the college’s own invoice: the ND form used Remita on conam.admissions.cloud; confirm whether the community form uses the same portal.
  5. Print and submit the form by the deadline.
  6. Sit the entrance exam and interview.
  7. Check the list and accept your place.

Warning

Pay for the community nursing or midwifery form only through the college’s own payment invoice. Nobody can sell you a guaranteed place, and the college’s NMCN-approved programmes do not need a middleman.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Applying for Community Nursing without an indigene letter: the 2024 notice limited it to Adamawa indigenes.
  • Missing the printed-form deadline: the online form alone was not enough in 2024; the printed copy had to reach the college.
  • Mixing NABTEB with WAEC or NECO: NABTEB results may only be combined with NABTEB.
  • Paying an agent: pay only through the college’s own invoice.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Community Midwifery if you want to work with pregnant women, deliveries and newborns in rural health centres. Choose Community Nursing if you prefer general primary health care, immunisation and family health. NMCN’s list names both programmes for the college, but the 2024 notice I could read spoke mainly about Community Nursing, so ask the college whether Community Midwifery is admitting in the same cycle and whether the indigene rule applies to it too.

After the programme

Graduates sit NMCN professional exams and, if successful, are registered in the community nursing or community midwifery category. Community midwives and nurses are in demand in rural primary health care centres across Adamawa. Many later add a basic nursing or midwifery qualification, or a degree, to widen their options.

If you have the five science credits and can score 150, the ND Nursing route gives a broader licence. If you do not, the community programmes are an approved route into primary health care.

For other options, compare MAU Yola Nursing Science, or the CHEW and JCHEW courses reported at Michika, whose approvals I could not confirm.

Sources and updates

The 2024/2025 community programmes details (indigene rule, O’level, documents, deadline, exam date and interview) are from a reprint of the college notice on studentship.com.ng (4 August 2024); the fee in that reprint is garbled, so I have not given one. The NMCN approval is from NMCN’s December 2025 list of approved schools. The rename is from the Adamawa State Government report of 8 November 2024. The ND comparison uses the college’s 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool News (17 July 2025) and the 2026/2027 minimum of 150 from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when the next community programmes notice appears.
