The MAU cut off mark for Technology and Vocational Education is 160 in the UTME, with Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU, formerly MAUTECH) as your first choice. MAU set that minimum for registering for its 2026/2027 online screening, as reprinted by Myschool on 15 July 2026, and it covers every course. MAU has not published a separate cut-off for Technology and Vocational Education, and JAMB’s national minimum for universities is 150.
2027/2028 update: MAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from MAU’s latest screening notice (2026/2027), as reprinted by Myschool. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
A score of 160 only gets you into the screening pool. MAU then admits the best-ranked candidates for each department and does not publish the score of the last person admitted. Technology and Vocational Education is also an umbrella: JAMB lists it for MAU alongside Technical Education and Vocational Education, and each covers different options. Below you will find which title fits which option, the subjects, a safe target score, how screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps and NUC status.
Match the JAMB title to your option
JAMB lists three overlapping MAU courses: Technology and Vocational Education, Technical Education and Vocational Education. Each names different MAU options. Decide which option you want to teach, then ask MAU’s admissions office in writing which JAMB title leads to it before you register or pay any fee.

MAU Technology and Vocational Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 160 | MAU minimum UTME score to register for screening, all courses | MAU notice reprinted by Myschool, 15 July 2026 |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 (NAN) |
| 2025/2026 | 160 | MAU minimum UTME score to register for screening, all courses | MAU notice reprinted by Studentship, August 2025 |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
MAU has kept its screening minimum at 160 for two sessions, ten marks above JAMB’s floor. If you scored between 150 and 159, JAMB allows universities to admit you, but MAU’s own notice shut you out of its screening. I could not open the notice on mau.edu.ng itself, because the site loads its pages with JavaScript, so the 160 rests on two independent reprints of MAU’s notices.
Safe target score for Technology and Vocational Education at MAU (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. MAU has not published these bands.
| Your UTME score | My read for MAU Technology and Vocational Education |
|---|---|
| Below 160 | Not eligible for MAU screening |
| 160 to 169 | Eligible; possible if the department has places left |
| 170 to 184 | Fair chance with good O’level grades |
| 185 to 199 | Competitive |
| 200 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, ideally 185, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and a technical subject such as Technical Drawing.
Catchment and the federal formula
MAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MAU has not published its own split or a catchment list for 2026/2027, so plan as if merit decides. A strong UTME score and clean O’level grades are the parts you control.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MAU Technology and Vocational Education
| Requirement | Technology and Vocational Education at MAU |
|---|---|
| MAU options under Technology and Vocational Education | Agricultural Technology Education, Construction Technology Education, Mechanical (Automobile) Education and Mechanical Production |
| MAU options under Technical Education | Mechanical Technology Education (Production or Automobile), Construction Technology, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Agricultural Mechanization, Computer Technology, Drafting Technology, Fine Arts, Printing Technology and Wood Technology |
| MAU options under Vocational Education | Agricultural Technology Education and Home Economics |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry (Technology and Vocational Education and Technical Education entries) |
| O’level | Five credits in relevant subjects including English Language and Mathematics, or NTC/NBC; MAU also accepts TC II |
| Direct Entry (MAU remarks) | NCE Technical or Science at merit in relevant subjects plus the UTME requirements; ND or HND in Science or Engineering, or the City and Guilds Full Technological Certificate, into 200 level if you meet the UTME requirements; NCE merit or A level passes in related subjects |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB (as reported in reprints of MAU’s admission information) |
| Sittings | At most two; MAU’s 2025 screening form asked for your best five O’level subjects from no more than two sittings |
For the technology options (construction, mechanical, electrical, wood, drafting and the rest), the UTME combination is Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry with Use of English. That is what both the Technology and Vocational Education and Technical Education entries say.
The Vocational Education entry is different: its options are Agricultural Technology Education and Home Economics, with O’level lines that include Agricultural Science or Home Economics, and its UTME line on the reprint mixes commercial and science subjects in a way I could not read reliably. If you want one of those two options, look at our dedicated posts for them, which follow MAU’s own remarks.
MAU’s O’level rule for the technology entries is broad: five relevant credits including English and Mathematics, with NTC/NBC and TC II accepted. Technical college leavers with trade credits are welcome.
Do you still need the UTME for an education degree at MAU?
Yes. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting moved NCE candidates out of the UTME, and from 2026/2027 JAMB stopped 100 level and 200 level degree admissions into colleges of education. Those rules are about colleges of education. MAU is a university, and its 2026/2027 screening notice applied the same 160 UTME minimum to every candidate who chose it, so Technology and Vocational Education at MAU still needs a UTME score (or a Direct Entry registration).
How MAU screening works for Technology and Vocational Education
MAU screens all courses together online. You do not apply to the Technology and Vocational Education department separately.

Candidates who had not chosen MAU could first change to MAU at a JAMB office or CBT centre, according to the 2026 reprint. The 2025 notice listed these steps on the portal, and I expect the 2027 process to look similar, though MAU has not confirmed that:
- Verify: enter your JAMB registration number.
- Create an account: use an email you check, then confirm it from your inbox.
- Pay: generate a Remita RRR and pay the screening fee.
- Upload: passport photo (150 kb at most) and signature.
- O’level: enter your best five subjects from at most two sittings, with the result checker details, and upload the result.
- Other documents: next of kin details, a certificate of indigeneship and a birth certificate.
- Print: print the acknowledgement slip and keep it for clearance.
The 2025 notice also told candidates to upload their O’level or A level results on the JAMB portal. Do that early: an offer cannot reach you on CAPS without it.
Worked example (illustrative)
MAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how UTME and O’level grades can interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). The method is my illustration. MAU may rank candidates differently.
- Candidate A scored 174, one sitting: English B3, Mathematics B2, Physics C4, Chemistry B3, Technical Drawing C5. UTME points: 174 ÷ 8 = 21.75. O’level points: 38. Illustrative total: 59.75.
- Candidate B scored 199, two sittings: English C6, Mathematics C5, Physics B3, Chemistry C6, Technical Drawing C4. UTME points: 199 ÷ 8 = 24.88. O’level points: 31. Illustrative total: 55.88.
Candidate B has 25 more UTME marks and still finishes behind on this method, because weak O’level grades pull the total down. If a university weighs O’level results at all, a resit that lifts a C6 to a B3 can be worth more than a dozen UTME marks. Whatever MAU’s real method is, both candidates first needed 160 to enter the pool.
Your chances of admission into Technology and Vocational Education at MAU
MAU has published no intake figures for any of these titles. Technology and vocational education courses usually have small applicant pools, so candidates who meet the subject rules and clear 160 with good grades have a reasonable chance in my view.
Most failed applications in this group come from the wrong title or the wrong subjects. Settle the option, then the JAMB title, then the subjects, in that order.
Step by step: from JAMB registration to an MAU Technology and Vocational Education admission
- Get your NIN and JAMB profile code: JAMB registration needs your National Identification Number. Send your NIN by SMS to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use, and JAMB replies with a profile code.
- Register for the UTME correctly: choose Technology and Vocational Education (or Technical Education or Vocational Education, if MAU advises one of those for your option) with Modibbo Adama University, Yola as first choice and the subjects Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for the technology options (confirm on your e-brochure if you want the Home Economics or Agricultural option).
- Fix a wrong choice early: if MAU is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before MAU’s screening opens. A wrong course needs a change of course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre. Awaiting result candidates must upload as soon as results are out.
- Register for MAU screening: when the notice appears (it ran from 20 July to 31 August in 2026), complete the portal steps above and print the slip.
- Watch JAMB CAPS: MAU’s 2026/2027 list was reported on CAPS in early October 2026. Log in, check the Admission Status tab and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
- Pay the acceptance fee and do clearance: MAU’s acceptance fee for 2026/2027 has not been published in any source I could read, so pay only through the official portal and never to an agent.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. Expect a similar deadline for 2027/2028 and accept any offer quickly.
What you study in Technology and Vocational Education at MAU
Technology and vocational education trains teachers for technical colleges, secondary schools and skills centres. You choose an option (for example construction, mechanical, electrical, agricultural or home economics) and study its technical content and workshop practice, along with education courses: educational psychology, curriculum studies, teaching methods, measurement and evaluation, and supervised teaching practice. MAU’s handbook was not available, so treat this as the usual content of the degree.
- Graduates usually receive a B.Sc.(Ed) or B.Tech(Ed); MAU’s exact degree title was not confirmed
- Workshop practice and teaching practice are graded parts of the degree
- To teach after graduation you register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)
Duration and accreditation
Expect four years for UTME entrants. Direct Entry candidates normally start at 200 level.
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 has no MAU row named Technology and Vocational Education. It lists MAU’s options as separate programmes, all with Full status in their latest result: Agricultural Education (maturity 2026), Construction Technology Education (2026), Mechanical Technology Education (2026) and Home Economics (2028). Check the NUC status of the specific option you want.
Careers
- Technical or vocational subject teacher in technical colleges and secondary schools (after TRCN registration)
- Instructor in skills acquisition and vocational centres
- Workshop, site or maintenance supervision in your option area
- Postgraduate study in Technology or Vocational Education

Mistakes that cost Technology and Vocational Education applicants an MAU place
- Picking a JAMB title without checking the option: the three titles cover different MAU options.
- Dropping Chemistry from the UTME for a technology option: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry are fixed.
- Treating 160 as an admission score: it only lets you register for screening.
- O’level missing on CAPS: MAU cannot offer you admission without it.
- Paying agents: pay screening and acceptance fees only through MAU’s portal.
If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, once results are out, how to check your JAMB result.
MAU cut off mark for Technology and Vocational Education: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Technical Education and Technology and Vocational Education at MAU? They are separate JAMB titles with overlapping options. Technical Education names nine MAU options; Technology and Vocational Education names four, including construction and mechanical options. Ask MAU which title leads to your option.
What JAMB subjects do I need for Technology and Vocational Education at MAU? Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for the technology options.
Is 165 enough for Technology and Vocational Education in MAU? It clears MAU’s 160 minimum. MAU publishes no departmental figure; I would aim for 170 or more with good O’level grades.
Can I use the City and Guilds certificate for Direct Entry into Technology and Vocational Education at MAU? Yes. MAU’s remark accepts the City and Guilds Full Technological Certificate, or ND/HND in Science or Engineering, into 200 level if you satisfy the UTME requirements.
