MAU Cut-Off Mark for Management Technology 2027/2028: Requirements

MAU’s cut off mark for Management Technology is 160 in the UTME, with MAU as first choice. See MAU’s own subject rule, O’level and Direct Entry routes, a safe target score, screening, CAPS steps and why you should confirm the programme’s name.

The MAU cut off mark for Management Technology is 160 in the UTME, with Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU, formerly MAUTECH) as your first choice. MAU set that minimum for registering for its 2026/2027 online screening, as reprinted by Myschool on 15 July 2026, and it covers every course. MAU has not published a separate cut-off for Management Technology, and JAMB’s national minimum for universities is 150.

2027/2028 update: MAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from MAU’s latest screening notice (2026/2027), as reprinted by Myschool. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

A score of 160 only gets you into the screening pool. MAU then admits the best-ranked candidates for each department and does not publish the score of the last person admitted. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), MAU’s own subject rules for Management Technology from the JAMB brochure, how screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps and the programme’s NUC status.

Confirm the course name

NUC’s accreditation list for MAU has no programme called Management Technology. It shows Management, Information Management Technology and a Business Management programme marked closed. The JAMB brochure still lists Management Technology for MAU, so ask MAU’s admissions office in writing which degree it now leads to before you pay any fee.

MAU has kept its screening minimum at 160 for two sessions, ten marks above JAMB’s floor. If you scored between 150 and 159, JAMB allows universities to admit you, but MAU’s own notice shut you out of its screening. I could not open the notice on mau.edu.ng itself, because the site loads its pages with JavaScript, so the 160 rests on two independent reprints of MAU’s notices.

Safe target score for Management Technology at MAU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. MAU has not published these bands.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MAU Management Technology
Below 160Not eligible for MAU screening
160 to 179Eligible, but a place is unlikely
180 to 199Possible with strong O’level grades
200 to 219Competitive
220 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 200, ideally 220. Management courses attract more applicants than the technical education courses at MAU, and many candidates who miss Accounting or Economics list a management course as their fallback. Back the score with credits in English, Mathematics, Economics and two commercial subjects.

Catchment and the federal formula

MAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MAU has not published its own split or a catchment list for 2026/2027, so plan as if merit decides. A strong UTME score and clean O’level grades are the parts you control.

UTME subject combination and O’level for MAU Management Technology

RequirementManagement Technology at MAU
UTME subjects (MAU remark)Use of English, Economics, and any two of Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Government, Geography and Mathematics
UTME subjects (JAMB general line)Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one of Chemistry, Physics or Biology
O’level (MAU remark)Credits in Economics and two from a list that includes Accounting or Book-keeping, Further Mathematics, Geography, Government and Commerce, alongside English Language and Mathematics
O’level (general line)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other science subjects
Direct Entry (MAU remark)ND at lower credit or better in a business or management field, or IJMB/A level with at least 8 points in Economics plus one or two related subjects
Direct Entry (general line)Two A level passes from Economics, Accountancy, Business Management, Government and Geography
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB (as reported in reprints of MAU’s admission information)
SittingsAt most two; MAU’s 2025 screening form asked for your best five O’level subjects from no more than two sittings

MAU’s remark is friendlier to commercial students than JAMB’s general line. The general line wants Mathematics, Economics and a science subject. MAU’s version keeps Economics fixed and lets you pick the other two from Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Government, Geography and Mathematics, so a commercial class candidate with Economics, Commerce and Accounts fits. Mathematics is still needed as an O’level credit.

If you want to keep other universities open, Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one science satisfies the general line, but it fails MAU’s remark unless the science slot is replaced. I would choose Economics, Mathematics and Commerce or Principles of Accounts: that fits MAU’s remark and most Management Technology entries elsewhere ask for Mathematics anyway.

How MAU screening works for Management Technology

MAU screens all courses together online. You do not apply to the Management Technology department separately.

Candidates who had not chosen MAU could first change to MAU at a JAMB office or CBT centre, according to the 2026 reprint. The 2025 notice listed these steps on the portal, and I expect the 2027 process to look similar, though MAU has not confirmed that:

  1. Verify: enter your JAMB registration number.
  2. Create an account: use an email you check, then confirm it from your inbox.
  3. Pay: generate a Remita RRR and pay the screening fee.
  4. Upload: passport photo (150 kb at most) and signature.
  5. O’level: enter your best five subjects from at most two sittings, with the result checker details, and upload the result.
  6. Other documents: next of kin details, a certificate of indigeneship and a birth certificate.
  7. Print: print the acknowledgement slip and keep it for clearance.

The 2025 notice also told candidates to upload their O’level or A level results on the JAMB portal. Do that early: an offer cannot reach you on CAPS without it.

Worked example (illustrative)

MAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how UTME and O’level grades can interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). The method is my illustration. MAU may rank candidates differently.

  • Candidate A scored 204, one sitting: English B3, Mathematics B2, Economics C4, Commerce B3, Accounting C5. UTME points: 204 ÷ 8 = 25.50. O’level points: 38. Illustrative total: 63.50.
  • Candidate B scored 232, two sittings: English C6, Mathematics C5, Economics B3, Commerce C6, Accounting C4. UTME points: 232 ÷ 8 = 29.00. O’level points: 31. Illustrative total: 60.00.

Candidate B has 28 more UTME marks and still finishes behind on this method, because weak O’level grades pull the total down. If a university weighs O’level results at all, a resit that lifts a C6 to a B3 can be worth more than a dozen UTME marks. Whatever MAU’s real method is, both candidates first needed 160 to enter the pool.

Your chances of admission into Management Technology at MAU

MAU has published no intake figure for Management Technology. Courses in this family usually draw more applicants than the education courses, so a score just above 160 leaves you exposed. Your best protection is a score above 200 and one-sitting O’level grades.

Direct Entry is a realistic route if you hold an ND in Business Administration, Office Technology or a similar field at lower credit or better, according to MAU’s remark. You still need a JAMB Direct Entry registration with MAU as your choice.

Because of the naming question, keep a second plan ready. Accounting, Economics and Banking and Finance at MAU share most of the same subjects, and a JAMB change of course after the UTME is possible if MAU advises a different course title.

Step by step: from JAMB registration to an MAU Management Technology admission

  1. Get your NIN and JAMB profile code: JAMB registration needs your National Identification Number. Send your NIN by SMS to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use, and JAMB replies with a profile code.
  2. Register for the UTME correctly: choose Management Technology with Modibbo Adama University, Yola as first choice and the subjects MAU accepts: Use of English, Economics and two of Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Government, Geography and Mathematics.
  3. Fix a wrong choice early: if MAU is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before MAU’s screening opens. A wrong course needs a change of course.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre. Awaiting result candidates must upload as soon as results are out.
  5. Register for MAU screening: when the notice appears (it ran from 20 July to 31 August in 2026), complete the portal steps above and print the slip.
  6. Watch JAMB CAPS: MAU’s 2026/2027 list was reported on CAPS in early October 2026. Log in, check the Admission Status tab and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
  7. Pay the acceptance fee and do clearance: MAU’s acceptance fee for 2026/2027 has not been published in any source I could read, so pay only through the official portal and never to an agent.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. Expect a similar deadline for 2027/2028 and accept any offer quickly.

What you study in Management Technology at MAU

Management Technology degrees in Nigeria combine business management with quantitative and technology-related courses: principles of management, accounting, economics, business law, human resources, marketing, production and operations management, statistics and computer applications, then entrepreneurship and a final-year project. MAU’s own course handbook was not available, so treat that list as the usual content of the degree.

The JAMB brochure groups MAU’s Management Technology under its engineering and technology category, while MAU’s management courses sit with the social and management sciences. That mix explains the name: management taught in a technology university.

Duration and accreditation

Expect four years for UTME entrants, with Direct Entry candidates starting at 200 level.

NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 lists these related rows for MAU: Management (Full in the latest result, maturity 2026), Information Management Technology (Full, maturity 2026) and Business Management (Interim, then marked CLOSED). No row is named Management Technology. A maturity year is when a programme falls due for its next accreditation visit, and 2026 is this year, so ask MAU which degree title your admission letter will carry and whether its 2026 visit has taken place.

Careers

  • Management trainee and administrative roles in banks, manufacturers and service firms
  • Human resources, procurement and operations roles
  • Marketing and sales management
  • Public service and agency administration
  • Running your own business
  • Postgraduate study such as an MBA or M.Sc in management

For the admission stage, see our JAMB CAPS guide and the guide to JAMB change of course in case MAU tells you to pick a different course title.

Mistakes that cost Management Technology applicants an MAU place

  • Leaving out Economics: it is the one fixed UTME subject in MAU’s remark.
  • Assuming the name is settled: NUC lists Management and Information Management Technology for MAU, so confirm the degree title.
  • Treating 160 as an admission score: it only lets you register for screening.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: MAU cannot offer you admission without it.
  • Paying agents: pay screening and acceptance fees only through MAU’s portal.

If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, once results are out, how to check your JAMB result.

MAU cut off mark for Management Technology: frequently asked questions

Is Mathematics compulsory in UTME for Management Technology at MAU? Not under MAU’s remark. Economics is fixed and Mathematics is one of five options for the other two subjects, though you still need an O’level credit in Mathematics.

Is 180 enough for Management Technology in MAU? It clears the 160 minimum, but MAU publishes no departmental cut-off and management courses are crowded. I would treat 180 as possible and aim for 200 or more.

Can I enter Management Technology at MAU through Direct Entry with an ND? Yes. MAU’s remark accepts an ND at lower credit or better in a business or management field, or IJMB/A level with at least 8 points in Economics plus related subjects.

Is Management Technology at MAU accredited by NUC? NUC’s list has no row with that exact name. It shows Management and Information Management Technology with Full status (maturity 2026), so confirm the degree title with MAU.
