The Ritman University English cut off mark for 2027/2028 is, in practice, the JAMB national minimum of 150 for universities. Ritman University, a private university in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, has not published a separate cut-off for English and Literary Studies: Ritman’s admissions page does not print a number. It only asks candidates to meet the UTME cut-off for their chosen course. English won Full NUC accreditation with 89.2%, according to Ritman’s October 2026 news post.
2027/2028 update: Ritman cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Ritman lists the degree as B.A. English and JAMB lists it for Ritman as English Language. Below I explain which name to register, the subjects (Literature in English is compulsory), a safe target score, Ritman’s CBT screening and the CAPS steps.
Ritman University English cut off mark 2027/2028 at a glance
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| Ritman’s own cut-off for English and Literary Studies | Not published | Ritman admissions page (checked 3 November 2026) |
| JAMB minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| Safe target score | 155 to 175 | My advice, not a Ritman rule |
| Course name on JAMB’s list for Ritman | English Language | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list |
| Course name on Ritman’s own list | B.A. English | Ritman’s admission notice of 21 October 2025 |
| UTME subjects | Literature in English + one Arts + one Arts or Social Science | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint); no Ritman remark |
| Screening | CBT | Ritman admissions page |
| NUC status | Full, due 2030 (89.2%) | NUC accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 |
| 2026/2027 admission deadline (private universities) | 30 November 2026 | JAMB, via NAN (11 May 2026) |
Which name to choose on JAMB
Ritman’s faculties page calls the department Language and Literary Studies, its admission notice of 21 October 2025 lists B.A. English, and JAMB’s course list for Ritman has English Language. NUC’s accreditation results list Ritman’s English.
These all point to one programme. Register English Language on JAMB, since that is the name JAMB holds for Ritman. Ritman has not published whether the degree covers both language and literature in equal measure, so ask the department if that matters to you.
Ritman English and Literary Studies cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | Not published | Ritman figure for English and Literary Studies | Admissions page asks only for the course cut-off |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Ritman minimum as summarised by a blog | Unofficial (Myschoolgist); no Ritman document cited |
Ritman’s admissions page still says, in its JUPEB section, that JUPEB suits candidates who scored below 140. That figure is an older JAMB floor. For 2026 JAMB set 150 as the minimum for universities, so I would not plan with 140 for English and Literary Studies or any other Ritman course.
Safe target score for English and Literary Studies at Ritman (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. Ritman University does not publish merit lists or the lowest score it admitted, so the bands below are planning ranges.
| Your UTME score | My read for English and Literary Studies at Ritman |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for a university this session |
| 150 to 154 | Eligible. Admission is possible at a private university, but you have no margin |
| 155 to 174 | Comfortable for English and Literary Studies at Ritman |
| 175 and above | Strong. You can also keep a federal or state university option open |
English is not heavily oversubscribed at private universities. For 2027 I would aim for 155 or more, ideally 175, with strong credits in English Language and Literature in English.
UTME subject combination and O’level for English and Literary Studies at Ritman
| Requirement | English and Literary Studies at Ritman |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB brochure) | Use of English plus Literature in English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subject |
| O’level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits including Literature in English, English Language and three other Arts or Social Science subjects |
| Ritman’s own O’level rule | Five credits in WAEC, NECO or GCE, including English Language and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings (Ritman admissions page) |
| Special Ritman remark on JAMB’s page | None listed |
| Awaiting result | Ritman has not published a rule; upload results to CAPS as soon as they are out |
Literature in English is compulsory in both the UTME and O’level for this course. A science student without Literature cannot meet JAMB’s line.
Ritman’s own rule adds a Mathematics credit for every course, so you need six relevant credits in practice: English, Literature, Mathematics and three others among your subjects.
Direct Entry into English and Literary Studies
JAMB’s brochure line for Direct Entry: two A-level passes including Literature in English and one other Arts subject. Ritman’s own rule: five O’level credits including English and Mathematics (two sittings at most), plus OND, NCE, IJMB or A-level for 200 level entry (Ritman admissions page). Register Direct Entry with JAMB, not only on the Ritman portal; a DE offer still has to appear on CAPS.
How Ritman screening works for English and Literary Studies
Ritman screens UTME and Direct Entry candidates with a computer-based test (CBT). Candidates apply online at applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity, sit the test, and those offered admission then go through an ICT training and orientation programme. The admissions page warns that false entries on the online form can lead to disqualification. Ritman has not published the CBT’s subjects, length or pass mark.
A 2025/2026 blog summary (Myschoolgist) said the form and screening cost ₦10,000 and that candidates brought a passport photograph, their JAMB result slip and the payment evidence to an aptitude test. Ritman has not confirmed that amount on any page I could open, so confirm it on the portal before paying.
Worked example for a English and Literary Studies candidate
Ritman has not published how it weighs the UTME against its CBT. Many Nigerian universities convert both to a score out of 100 by dividing the UTME by 8 (up to 50 marks) and scaling the screening test to 50. I use that method below only as an illustration; it is not a Ritman formula.
- UTME: Arit scored 161. 161 divided by 8 = 20.12 out of 50.
- CBT: suppose Arit scores 72% on Ritman’s test. Half of that is 36.0 out of 50.
- Illustrative aggregate: 20.12 + 36.0 = 56.12 out of 100.
- Margin over the floor: 161 minus 150 = 11 marks above JAMB’s minimum, and 6 marks above my safe target of 155.
- What I would advise: she is above my target with a strong test score. She should register English Language on JAMB.
Admission odds for English and Literary Studies at Ritman
With 155 or more, credits in English, Literature and Mathematics, and a fair CBT result, a place is likely. Few candidates choose English as a first course.
- Choose Ritman first: Ritman also accepts candidates through a JAMB change of institution, according to its October 2025 notice.
- Upload O’level early: no university can give you admission on CAPS without your results there.
- Apply before the private-university deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, so the 2026/2027 exercise runs until that date.
- Keep a second option: if you also hold a strong score, apply to a public university in the next cycle as well.
How to apply for English and Literary Studies at Ritman, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: Use of English, Literature in English, CRS or History, and Government, under the course name English Language, with Ritman University as your first choice. Ritman also takes change of institution candidates.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. Check that the grades show correctly.
- Apply on the Ritman portal: applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity. Fill the form with the same names as on your JAMB and O’level records.
- Sit the CBT screening: bring what the portal asks for, which blogs say includes your JAMB slip and a passport photograph.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.
- Pay acceptance and register: pay only through the invoice the portal generates, then complete clearance and the ICT orientation.
Warning
Every genuine Ritman offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who promises a English and Literary Studies place or a “slot” outside the official portal; admissions outside CAPS are illegal, as JAMB restated in May 2026.
Fees for English and Literary Studies at Ritman
Ritman’s Pay Fees page carries a revised fee schedule for the 2024/2025 session, posted as two images. I could not read the amounts from it, and no 2026/2027 schedule was published there when I checked. Ask the admissions office (info@ritmanuniversity.edu.ng, 0808 983 5170) for the current English and Literary Studies tuition before you accept an offer.
Studying English and Literary Studies at Ritman
English sits in Ritman’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. A B.A. in English normally runs for four years in Nigeria; Ritman has not published its own duration.
About Ritman University
Ritman University is a private university on Umuahia Road, Ikot Ekpene. NUC licensed it on 5 March 2015 and teaching began in November 2015. Its vice-chancellor since 2 October 2025 is Prof. Akan B. Mistakes that cost English and Literary Studies applicants a place
- No Literature in English: JAMB makes it compulsory for this course.
- Treating 150 as a guarantee: it only makes you eligible.
- O’level not on CAPS: without it, no offer can be made.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee, clearance and registration at Ritman are separate steps.
If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, if you chose another school, how to do a JAMB change of institution.
