The NBU cut-off mark for Computer Science that 2027/2028 candidates should plan with is 160 in the UTME. Nigerian British University’s 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions page lists Computer Science among the programmes that need “160+”, which is ten marks above the 150 JAMB set as the minimum for universities. There is no lower departmental figure, and 150 to 159 will not do for this course at NBU.
2027/2028 update: NBU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Computer Science is the broadest of the five degrees in NBU’s Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, and the one most candidates mean when they say they want to “study computer”. This page covers the subject combination JAMB accepts, NBU’s own O’level rule, Direct Entry, how the application works, the fees reported for 2026/2027 and the accreditation question you should settle before paying.

Cut-off history for Computer Science at NBU
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 160 | NBU’s own minimum for Computer Science and the other computing, management and engineering programmes | Official (NBU undergraduate admissions page) |
| 2026/2027 | 180 | NBU minimum for Law, Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing Science (for comparison) | Official (same page) |
| 2026/2027 | 200 | NBU minimum for MBBS (for comparison) | Official (same page) |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB, 11 May 2026) |
| Earlier sessions | Not published | A Computer Science figure from NBU | Nothing found for 2023/2024 to 2025/2026 |
NBU was not on the list of institutions that declared their own cut-offs at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so its 160 comes from the university’s admissions page, not from JAMB’s list. Some aggregator sites still show 150 for NBU, or mix 150 and 160 on the same page. Go with the university’s own figure.
Safe target score for Computer Science at NBU (my advice)
NBU publishes a minimum, not the score of the last candidate admitted. The table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an NBU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Computer Science at NBU |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible anywhere at university level in Nigeria. |
| 150 to 159 | Above JAMB’s minimum but below NBU’s 160 for Computer Science. Look at a programme or school with a lower bar. |
| 160 to 174 | Eligible. Realistic if your subjects and O’level match and your documents are complete. |
| 175 to 189 | A comfortable position at a young private university. |
| 190 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
NBU does not publish applicant numbers, so nobody outside the university knows how crowded Computer Science is. A new private university in Abia usually has more space than the big public ones, but I would not plan on scraping in at exactly 160. For the 2027 UTME, aim for at least 180, with solid credits in Mathematics and Physics.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for NBU Computer Science
JAMB’s brochure lists the course as Computer Science, the same name NBU uses. Choose it with Nigerian British University as the institution.
| Requirement | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) | NBU’s own page |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography (plus Use of English) | Score of 160 or more; JAMB subjects must match the programme |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects | Five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, in not more than two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject | A-level in relevant subjects, OND, HND or a first degree |
| NBU-specific remark | None | Not applicable |
The Computer Science page carries a long list of remarks for other universities (from AAU and ABU through to UNN and UNIBEN, plus private ones such as Caleb, Madonna and Rhema). None names NBU or Nigerian British University, so the main brochure lines apply to you.
Any of the five fourth-subject options is valid for JAMB. I would still pick Chemistry: it keeps Computer Engineering and the other science-based courses open if you later need a change of course, and most Nigerian universities treat English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as the safe science set. Economics is fine if you are stronger in it, since the brochure accepts it for Computer Science.
NBU’s general rule asks for English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects at not more than two sittings. JAMB’s brochure line is more specific, naming Physics and two other sciences. Meet the brochure version and you meet both: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Further Mathematics) is the cleanest set.
Direct Entry into Computer Science at NBU
NBU’s page accepts A-level in relevant subjects, OND, HND or a first degree for Direct Entry, and for 2026/2027 it asked candidates to send transcripts to the Registrar, Nigerian British University, KM 10 Aba Port Harcourt Expressway, by 1 September 2026. Expect a similar transcript date for 2027/2028.
JAMB’s brochure lists two science A-levels including Mathematics, or an NCE at merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject. NBU’s page names A-level, OND, HND and first degree but not NCE, so if you hold an NCE, get written confirmation from the admissions office before you apply. If you hold an OND or HND, it should be in a computing or closely related field.
How NBU screens Computer Science applicants
NBU’s 2026/2027 page did not describe a written post-UTME test. It set three conditions instead:
- your JAMB CAPS details must match the details on your NBU application;
- only candidates whose programme on JAMB CAPS matches the programme on the NBU portal are considered;
- only candidates who upload all the required documents are considered.
A May 2026 blog post said NBU’s post-UTME form was on sale but gave no fee, date or test format, and I found no official notice of a test. Treat the portal and your email as the place where any test or interview date will appear.
Worked example (illustrative)
NBU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example only shows the eligibility checks its page describes. Two candidates apply for Computer Science:
- Chidinma: scored 184 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, has five credits including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology from one sitting, and chose NBU as first choice for Computer Science.
- Her checks: 184 is 24 above NBU’s 160. Subjects and O’level fit. Her CAPS course matches the course she picks on the portal, and she uploads every document. She meets every condition on the page.
- Emeka: scored 171 but registered another university first, and his NBU portal application says Computer Science while his JAMB course is still the other school’s course.
- His checks: his score is fine, but NBU’s page says only candidates whose CAPS programme matches the portal programme are considered. He must change his institution and course to NBU and Computer Science on JAMB before NBU’s CAPS deadline, which was 30 November 2026 for the 2026/2027 session.
Emeka’s higher-than-minimum score does not help him until the JAMB record is fixed. Our guide to JAMB change of institution walks through that step.
How Computer Science compares with NBU’s other computing degrees
| NBU programme | Minimum UTME (2026/2027) | Main focus |
|---|---|---|
| Computer Science | 160 | Programming, algorithms, systems and theory |
| Information Technology | 160 | Running networks, databases and IT services |
| Software Engineering | 160 | Designing, testing and maintaining software in teams |
| Cyber Security | 160 | Protecting systems and investigating attacks |
| Data Science | 160 | Statistics, programming and machine learning on data |
Computer Science is the safest choice if you are not yet sure which corner of computing you want. It covers programming, systems and theory, and the specialised degrees (Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Data Science) can all be reached from it later through a master’s or certifications. If you already know you want security or data work, the specialised degree gets you there faster.
How to apply for Computer Science at NBU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Computer Science and Nigerian British University, with the subjects above. First choice is the cleanest route. If NBU was not your first choice, change your institution and course on JAMB before NBU’s CAPS deadline.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. NBU accepts at most two sittings.
- Apply on the NBU portal: use application.nbu.edu.ng, the link on NBU’s admissions page. The page did not state a form price, so read the amount on the portal itself. Pick exactly the same programme you have on CAPS and upload every document asked for.
- Meet the closing date: for 2026/2027, NBU set Friday 30 November 2026 as its application deadline, the same date JAMB set as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
- Pay acceptance and register: NBU’s older fee schedule listed acceptance at ₦40,000. Confirm the current amount with the bursary, pay only through NBU’s official channels, then complete clearance and print your JAMB admission letter.
Confirm before you pay
I could not confirm NUC accreditation for NBU’s Computer Science programme. Ask the university for its current status before paying acceptance. Ignore online adverts with private phone numbers selling NBU forms; apply only through application.nbu.edu.ng. JAMB said in May 2026 that any admission done outside CAPS is illegal, so a genuine offer must show on your CAPS page.
Admissions enquiries go to admissions@nbu.edu.ng or +234 706 075 0979 (the number in the footer of NBU’s site). When your status changes, our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means and how to accept.
NBU Computer Science school fees
| Source | Figure | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Legit.ng, 14 September 2026, citing NBU’s tuition page | ₦951,540 per session | Computing and Information Technology, 2026/2027; breakdown not given |
| NBU’s older fee schedule (old site; mentions a 2024/2025 discount) | ₦1,100,000 tuition | Computing and Information Technology tuition only |
| Same older schedule | ₦2,526,000 total for a new student | Tuition, ₦40,000 acceptance, ₦100,000 development, ₦650,000 accommodation and ₦636,000 other charges |
The two figures do not line up, and I could not open NBU’s current tuition page to settle it. The older schedule allowed payment in three parts (50% at the start of the session, 20% before first-semester exams, 30% at the start of the second semester), said fees are not refundable, and said feeding is not included. Ask the bursary whether the ₦951,540 is tuition alone or a full package before you budget. Fees for 2027/2028 had not been published when I checked.
Studying Computer Science at Nigerian British University
NBU is a private university at Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State, on the Aba to Port Harcourt road. It is owned by the Adorable Foundation for Educational Development, got NUC approval in April 2022 and was commissioned in February 2023. Computer Science is a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.
What you study
- 100 and 200 level: programming fundamentals, mathematics for computing (calculus, linear algebra, discrete structures), digital logic and the general courses every Nigerian undergraduate takes.
- 300 level: data structures and algorithms, operating systems, databases, computer networks, software engineering and theory of computation.
- 400 level: artificial intelligence, compiler construction, computer security, electives and a final-year project.
- Industrial training: Nigerian computing degrees normally include a SIWES placement. Ask the department when it falls at NBU.
Duration and accreditation
UTME entrants normally spend four years on a B.Sc. in Nigeria, and Direct Entry students start at 200 level. NBU’s admissions page does not state the duration.
I found no NUC accreditation result for NBU’s Computer Science programme. No NUC report page names NBU, and I could not find an NBU entry in NUC’s published accreditation results. Its status is therefore not confirmed. That is not unusual for a university commissioned in 2023, because NUC accreditation visits usually come after a programme has run for some years, but you should ask NBU for the current status in writing before paying.
Careers after the degree
- Software developer or backend engineer
- Systems and network administrator
- Data or business analyst
- Teaching, research and postgraduate study in any computing field
Employers in computing look at what you can show as well as your class of degree, so build a small portfolio (projects, a GitHub profile, a certification) while you are still a student.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants an NBU place
- Planning with 150: that is JAMB’s floor. NBU wants 160 for Computer Science.
- CAPS and portal not matching: NBU’s page says it ignores applications where the two programmes differ.
- Missing documents: only complete uploads are considered.
- O’level from three sittings: NBU accepts two at most.
- Registering “Computer Science” at one school and NBU elsewhere on CAPS: NBU only considers you if the course on CAPS matches the course on its portal.
- Paying an agent: forms are sold on NBU’s own portal.

NBU Computer Science cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the cut-off mark for Computer Science at Nigerian British University? 160. NBU’s 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions page lists Computer Science among the programmes that need 160 and above in the UTME, which is ten marks above JAMB’s 150 minimum for universities.
What subjects do I need in JAMB for Computer Science at NBU? Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography, according to Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure. Chemistry is my recommended fourth subject.
Can I get Computer Science at NBU with 155? No. JAMB’s national minimum is 150, but NBU set its own minimum at 160 for Computer Science, so a 155 does not meet the university’s requirement.
Is Computer Science at Nigerian British University accredited? I could not confirm an NUC accreditation result for it. NBU is a young university commissioned in 2023, so ask the admissions office for the programme’s current NUC status before you pay.
