MOUAU Mathematics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The MOUAU Mathematics cut off mark is 150 in the UTME with MOUAU as first choice. MOUAU has its own remarks in JAMB’s brochure for this course; see the subjects, O’level, Direct Entry, screening, a safe target and the CAPS steps.

The MOUAU Mathematics cut off mark is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike as your first choice. MOUAU set that figure for all courses in its 2026/2027 screening notice and did not publish a separate one for Mathematics.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Mathematics is one of the few courses where MOUAU has its own lines in JAMB’s brochure, covering the UTME, O’level and Direct Entry. Those remarks are stricter than the general rule, and they are the part most guides leave out. This page covers them, along with the official figures, my safe target score, screening, a worked example, the CAPS steps and the degree itself.

MOUAU applies one floor of 150 to every course. A “MOUAU Mathematics departmental cut-off” on a blog is not an official figure. The real merit line is the score of the last candidate admitted, and MOUAU keeps that to itself.

Safe target score for Mathematics at MOUAU (my advice)

Pure Mathematics is not usually among the most crowded courses, but many applicants list it as a fallback after Computer Science or engineering, which pushes up the competition. These bands are my judgement, not MOUAU’s.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Mathematics
Below 150Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening
150 to 169Eligible to register; risky on merit
170 to 184Possible with strong O’level grades from one sitting
185 to 214Competitive
215 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 185, with a good grade in Mathematics at O’level. A weak Mathematics grade looks bad on a Mathematics application even when it is a credit.

MOUAU is a federal university, so it takes students from every state. It has not said how it shares places between merit, catchment areas and educationally less developed states. Do not count on your state of origin to rescue a weak score; plan as if merit decides.

JAMB subject combination for Mathematics at MOUAU

JAMB’s brochure entry for Mathematics, as reprinted by Myschool, carries a MOUAU remark: MOUAU requires Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry and Geography or Economics. Use of English is compulsory on top of that. The general rule reads almost the same. Biology and Agricultural Science are not on the list, even though a few other universities accept Biology for Mathematics.

UTME subjectStatus
Use of EnglishCompulsory
MathematicsCompulsory
Two of Physics, Chemistry, Geography or EconomicsYour choice of two

Physics and Chemistry make the strongest pair, because MOUAU’s O’level remark asks for credits in both (see below), and they also keep Computer Science and Statistics open if you change course. If you choose Geography or Economics, make sure your O’level still covers Physics and Chemistry.

O’level requirements for Mathematics

RequirementWhat applies
General ruleFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry
MOUAU remarkFive credits in not more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other relevant science subject
SittingsTwo at most, and MOUAU’s notice says the number of sittings is weighted
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
Awaiting resultMOUAU told candidates not to register for screening until their results were out

This is where MOUAU differs from the general rule. Elsewhere, Physics or Chemistry may be enough. At MOUAU you need credits in both, plus one more science such as Biology, Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics, all within two sittings.

Direct Entry into MOUAU Mathematics

RouteWhat the brochure says
General A level routeTwo A level passes in Mathematics and any other science subject
General NCE routeNCE merit in Mathematics and one of Physics, Chemistry or Economics
MOUAU remarkA level passes in Mathematics and Physics; accepts ND (upper credit) and HND into 200 level

MOUAU names Physics as the second A level subject, where the general rule accepts any science. The remark accepts ND holders at upper credit and HND holders, with entry at 200 level. It does not mention NCE, so NCE holders should check with the department before buying the Direct Entry form. Every DE candidate still needs the O’level credits above.

How MOUAU screening works for Mathematics applicants

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set the rules below for UTME candidates. The same notice covered every department, Mathematics included. Expect the 2027/2028 exercise to look similar, but go by the new notice once it is out.

The notice does not mention a written Post-UTME test, so I would not assume one. The safest plan is to expect MOUAU to rank you on your UTME score and your O’level grades, with a single sitting counting in your favour. Keep checking the portal anyway, because the notice told candidates to look there for screening results and admission status, and any extra step would be announced there too.

Worked example: two Mathematics candidates

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. This example only measures each score against the official minimum and my safe target, so treat it as illustrative.

Chisom scored 197 in the UTME with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Her WAEC, from one sitting, shows A1 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry, C4 in English and C5 in Biology.

  1. Eligibility: 197 minus 150 = 47. She clears MOUAU’s minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 197 minus 185 = 12. She sits above my target.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, one sitting. MOUAU’s remark is met.
  4. Advice: keep MOUAU first, register for screening early and accept quickly on CAPS.

Kelechi scored 214 with Mathematics, Economics and Geography, but his O’level has a Chemistry credit and only a pass in Physics. His score is good, yet he does not meet MOUAU’s O’level remark, which asks for both Physics and Chemistry. He should add a Physics credit through NECO or WAEC GCE (a second sitting is allowed) before screening.

How to apply for Mathematics at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with MOUAU as first choice: pick Mathematics and sit Use of English, Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry and Geography or Economics. If another school is already your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU opens screening.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result. MOUAU’s notice makes this upload a condition for screening.
  4. Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
  5. Pay the screening fee: it was ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, paid on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print the receipt and every slip.
  6. Watch the portal and CAPS: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status on its portal, and the offer itself appears on JAMB CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
  8. Pay acceptance and complete clearance: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on the invoice from your MOUAU portal.

Warning

Some websites print a MOUAU “departmental cut-off” for Mathematics, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice set one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its own portal.

JAMB told public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 October 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see, and our guide on checking your JAMB result covers what to do with your score.

Studying Mathematics at MOUAU

Mathematics is one of six departments in MOUAU’s College of Physical and Applied Sciences (COLPAS). The others are Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Physics and Statistics. MOUAU sits at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. The Federal Government set it up in November 1992 as a university of agriculture, so science departments like this one share the campus with a large agriculture and veterinary community.

What you study

MOUAU has not put a course outline for this department online in any source I reached. A Nigerian B.Sc in Mathematics normally covers the areas below.

  • Foundation year: calculus, algebra, introductory statistics, physics and general studies.
  • Analysis: real analysis, complex analysis and functional analysis.
  • Algebra: linear algebra, abstract algebra (groups, rings and fields) and number theory.
  • Differential equations: ordinary and partial differential equations and mathematical methods.
  • Applied and computational topics: numerical analysis, mechanics, optimisation and programming.
  • Electives: topology, operations research or mathematical modelling, depending on staff.
  • SIWES and project: industrial training and a final year project.

Duration and accreditation

A B.Sc in Mathematics at a Nigerian university normally takes four years for UTME entrants, and Direct Entry students join at 200 level. MOUAU’s own duration for this programme is not confirmed in the sources I reached. I could not confirm the programme’s current NUC accreditation status either. There is no professional council for mathematicians, but NUC accreditation still affects NYSC mobilisation and postgraduate admission. Before you pay acceptance, ask the department whether the programme is fully accredited and admitting.

Careers

  • Secondary school and university teaching
  • Banking, finance and actuarial work (with professional exams)
  • Data analysis and programming
  • Operations research and planning in industry and government
  • Research and postgraduate study

If Chemistry is one of your UTME subjects, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027 lists the topics. For long revision days, see our tips on studying for long hours.

Mistakes that cost Mathematics applicants a MOUAU place

  • Missing Physics or Chemistry at O’level: MOUAU’s remark wants credits in both.
  • Biology in the UTME: it is not on MOUAU’s list for Mathematics, so it cannot be one of your two optional subjects.
  • Treating 150 as safe: it only lets you register for screening.
  • Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: the notice requires the upload before screening.
  • Registering while awaiting results: MOUAU told candidates to wait until results were out.
  • Paying anyone outside the portal: MOUAU fees go through the Remita invoice from its portal.

If you need to switch course or school after the UTME, read JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution.

MOUAU Mathematics cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Can I study Mathematics in MOUAU with Economics in JAMB? Yes. MOUAU’s remark allows Mathematics plus two of Physics, Chemistry and Geography or Economics. You still need O’level credits in both Physics and Chemistry.

Does MOUAU accept two sittings for Mathematics? Yes, up to two sittings, according to MOUAU’s O’level remark. One sitting is still better because MOUAU weights the number of sittings in screening.

What is the Direct Entry requirement for Mathematics in MOUAU? A level passes in Mathematics and Physics. MOUAU also accepts ND at upper credit and HND, into 200 level, plus the O’level credits.

Is 180 enough for Mathematics in MOUAU? It clears the 150 minimum, so you can register. I would call it borderline; 185 or more with one-sitting O’level gives you a better chance.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal addresses, the awaiting result instruction and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from reports of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026) by the News Agency of Nigeria and News Central. The college and department names come from MOUAU’s Academic Department by Faculty page (updated 19 June 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules, including MOUAU’s own remarks, come from JAMB’s brochure entry for Mathematics as reprinted by Myschool. MOUAU has not published a departmental cut-off, an aggregate formula, a screening test date, acceptance fees or school fees in any source I reached, and I could not confirm accreditation. The safe target scores are my advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when MOUAU releases its 2027/2028 screening notice.
