The Caritas University Chemical Engineering cut-off mark you should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Caritas’s own admissions page says candidates who scored 140 and above can apply, but JAMB fixed 150 as the 2026 minimum for every Nigerian university, and no school can admit below it on CAPS. Caritas has not published a separate, higher figure for Chemical Engineering, and it does not run a written Post-UTME test.
2027/2028 update: Caritas University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Chemical Engineering is on JAMB’s course list for Caritas University, Amorji-Nike, Enugu, under the name Chemical Engineering, and it sits in Caritas’s Faculty of Engineering for 2026/2027. The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list shows the programme at Full accreditation with a maturity date of 2027. One brochure detail catches people out: JAMB’s remark for Caritas says no Direct Entry into Chemical Engineering. Below are the subjects, O’level rules, screening, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

Caritas Chemical Engineering cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 and above | Caritas’s stated minimum for all applicants | Official Caritas admissions page, read 30 October 2026 |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 (as titled) | 140 | Caritas admission notice signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka | Official, but the text is carried over from older years |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
The notice titled for 2025/2026 still refers to the “2019 JAMB UTME” and a closing date of 15 February 2025, so it is old text that Caritas keeps reposting. I use it only for two points that have stayed constant: the 140 figure and the statement that there is no Post-UTME screening test. Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat both points.
Caritas’s 140 predates JAMB’s 2026 decision and was never raised to match it. JAMB’s 150 governs who can be admitted through CAPS, so 150 is the number that counts for Chemical Engineering.
Score warning
Caritas’s admissions page still says candidates with 140 and above can apply. JAMB’s 2026 minimum for every university is 150, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so a UTME score from 140 to 149 cannot give you a valid Caritas admission. Do not pay any agent who promises to “process” one.
Safe target score for Chemical Engineering at Caritas (my advice)
Caritas has no exam to rank you, so your UTME score and O’level do the work. Chemical Engineering is one of the more expensive courses to run, and a private university will usually admit any qualified candidate who applies on time and can pay. That keeps the bar close to the minimum. I still prefer a cushion, because a score just above 150 leaves you no room if Caritas tightens its intake or if you later want to switch to a public university.
| Your UTME score | My read for Caritas Chemical Engineering |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME this session; rewrite the UTME or look at JUPEB (Caritas runs a JUPEB programme) |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; apply early and make sure all five O’level credits are in place |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable for Caritas |
| 200 and above | Strong; ESUT and UNN are also realistic |
My target for a 2027 candidate would be 170 or more, with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits from one sitting if you can manage it.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Chemical Engineering at Caritas
JAMB’s brochure entry for Chemical Engineering lists special remarks for ABU, UNIMAID, FUPRE, FUTO, MAUTECH, UNILAG, Landmark, UNIPORT and NUN under the UTME line, and none for Caritas, so the general rule applies to you.
| Requirement | Chemical Engineering at Caritas |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name | Chemical Engineering (Caritas University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry |
| O’level (JAMB general) | Five credits in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any other science subject |
| O’level (Caritas Faculty of Engineering) | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Agricultural Science |
| Sittings | Not more than two |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, and Caritas allows them to be combined within two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Not offered at Caritas, according to JAMB’s brochure remark |
Which fifth O’level subject should you use?
JAMB’s general line accepts “any other science subject” as the fifth credit. Caritas’s own faculty list names Biology or Agricultural Science. If your fifth science credit is Further Mathematics or Technical Drawing and you have no Biology or Agricultural Science credit, ask the admissions office in writing before you apply. A candidate with Biology or Agricultural Science satisfies both lists and has nothing to worry about.
No Direct Entry into Chemical Engineering
Under the Direct Entry section of the brochure, JAMB lists Caritas alongside UNIPORT with the remark “No Direct Entry” for Chemical Engineering. If you hold A-level, IJMB, JUPEB, an ND or an HND and want to go straight into 200 level, Caritas’s Chemical Engineering is not the route according to JAMB. You would need to write the UTME and enter at 100 level, or pick a university whose brochure remark accepts your qualification. ESUT, for example, accepts A-level passes in two of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, plus ND, HND and other routes with good grades.
Caritas runs a JUPEB programme for 2026/2027. JUPEB normally leads to Direct Entry, which conflicts with the no-DE remark for this course, so do not register for JUPEB with Chemical Engineering at Caritas in mind until the university confirms in writing that it will take you.
How Caritas screens Chemical Engineering applicants
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | “Admission ongoing for 2026/2027 session” on the Caritas admissions page |
| Who can apply | Candidates with 140 and above, whether or not Caritas was their first choice (150 in practice) |
| Written Post-UTME test | None, according to Caritas’s admission notice |
| Awaiting result | Allowed if the result is out by resumption |
| Form fee and closing date | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | None published |
| Student loan | The admissions page links to the NELFUND portal; check your own eligibility there |
The notice that says there is no Post-UTME test is the recycled one described above, so it reflects long-standing practice. Caritas has made no fresh 2026 announcement on testing. Expect a check of your documents, and keep an eye on the admissions page in case Caritas adds an interview or test for 2027/2028.
Worked example
With no test and no aggregate formula, your chances come down to three checks: the JAMB floor, your margin over my target and your O’level. The figures below are illustrative.
Take Chidera, who scored 176 and has B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, C4 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry and C5 in Biology from one WAEC sitting.
- JAMB floor: 176 minus 150 = 26. She clears the minimum.
- Against my target: 176 minus 170 = 6. She is in the comfortable range.
- O’level: credits in all five subjects Caritas names for engineering. She qualifies.
- Next step: apply on the Caritas portal, upload her result to CAPS and accept the offer as soon as it appears.
Now take Obinna, who has an ND in Chemical Engineering Technology with upper credit and wants to start at 200 level. His qualification is good, but JAMB’s remark says Caritas takes no Direct Entry for this course. He has two honest options: sit the UTME with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and enter Caritas at 100 level, or apply by Direct Entry to a university that accepts ND holders for Chemical Engineering.
Admission odds and advice
- The subject rule matters more than the score: Biology in place of Physics or Chemistry in the UTME rules you out, whatever your score.
- Mathematics carries the course: mass and energy balances, thermodynamics and transport phenomena are calculation-heavy. A weak Mathematics credit is a warning sign for the first two years.
- Put Caritas first: Caritas says it accepts candidates who did not choose it first, but CAPS works more smoothly when it is your first choice. A JAMB change of institution fixes this.
- Know the 2026/2027 date: JAMB’s admission window for private universities runs until 30 November 2026 for the current session.
- Ask about fees early: Caritas does not publish its fee schedule online, so get it in writing before you accept.
Other Chemical Engineering options in Enugu
| University | Minimum UTME score (2026/2027) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Caritas University, Amorji-Nike | 150 (JAMB floor; Caritas says 140) | No Post-UTME test; no Direct Entry |
| SUMAS, Igbo-Eno | 150 | SUMAS Chemical Engineering cut-off mark |
| ESUT, Agbani | 160 | Public; accepts several Direct Entry routes |
If your score is between 150 and 159, ESUT’s general minimum of 160 is out of reach for 2026/2027, and Caritas or SUMAS are the realistic choices in Enugu. Above 180 you have more options, and the decision becomes one of cost and campus.
How to apply for Chemical Engineering at Caritas, step by step
- Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line registered with your NIN, then use the code to register.
- UTME registration: choose Caritas University and “Chemical Engineering”, and write Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
- O’level on CAPS: upload your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as it is out. CAPS cannot show you to Caritas without it.
- Caritas application: go to the admissions page on caritasuni.edu.ng, use the application link or the “Contact admissions” option, and apply for Chemical Engineering. Caritas has not published the 2026/2027 form price, so pay only the amount the official portal shows and keep the receipt.
- Screening: there is no written Post-UTME test on record. Expect Caritas to check your UTME score, subjects and O’level, and bring originals if you are called for document screening.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer once it appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows every screen.
- Acceptance and school fees: Caritas says its fees were revised but publishes no amounts. Pay only into the account on your official Caritas invoice, then print your JAMB admission letter.
Studying Chemical Engineering at Caritas University
Accreditation
- NUC: the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) lists Chemical Engineering under Caritas’s Engineering and Technology programmes with Full status on each of its last three results and a maturity date of 2027. Full accreditation runs for five years, so the programme is due for its next NUC visit around 2027, during a 2027 entrant’s first year. Ask the department whether that visit has taken place and what the result was.
- COREN: the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria publishes visit reports on its website, and I found none naming Caritas. COREN accreditation of Caritas’s Chemical Engineering is therefore not confirmed here. Ask the department for its current COREN letter, because COREN registration after graduation depends on it.
Degree, duration and what you study
Caritas awards a B.Eng. Nigerian B.Eng. programmes run for five years through the UTME route, and Caritas has not published a different duration. The usual pattern looks like this:
- 100 and 200 levels: mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, workshop practice, applied mechanics, basic electrical engineering and general studies.
- 300 level: material and energy balances, chemical engineering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and the first period of industrial training under SIWES.
- 400 level: reaction engineering, separation processes such as distillation and absorption, process control, and a longer SIWES placement in a plant or factory.
- 500 level: process and plant design, petroleum and petrochemical processing, environmental engineering, a design project and a final-year research project.
Careers
Chemical engineers work in oil and gas processing, refineries, fertiliser, cement, paint and plastics plants, breweries and food factories, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and water and wastewater treatment. Some move into process safety, environmental regulation or technical sales. To practise as a registered engineer in Nigeria you register with COREN, which is why the COREN question above is worth settling before you pay.

Mistakes that cost Chemical Engineering applicants a Caritas place
- Relying on 140: Caritas’s website says 140, but JAMB’s 150 floor decides CAPS admission.
- Writing Biology instead of Physics or Chemistry in the UTME: the combination must be Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
- Applying by Direct Entry: JAMB’s brochure says Caritas takes no Direct Entry for this course.
- Leaving Caritas as a second choice: use a JAMB change of institution if Caritas is now your target.
- Forgetting the O’level upload: CAPS cannot release an offer until your result is on JAMB’s system.
Caritas Chemical Engineering cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Can I get Chemical Engineering at Caritas University with 150? Yes. 150 meets JAMB’s university minimum and Caritas has published no higher figure for Chemical Engineering. You also need UTME Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and five O’level credits, and I would aim for 170 to be safe.
Does Caritas University accept Direct Entry for Chemical Engineering? JAMB’s brochure remark for Caritas says no Direct Entry for Chemical Engineering. Candidates with A-level, ND or HND should apply through the UTME or choose another university.
Is Chemical Engineering at Caritas accredited? The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results list Caritas’s Chemical Engineering as Full, with a maturity date of 2027. COREN accreditation is not confirmed, so ask the department for its COREN letter.
Does Caritas write post-UTME for Chemical Engineering? No written Post-UTME test is on record. Caritas’s admission notice says none is required, so selection rests on your UTME score, subjects and O’level.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). Caritas’s 140 figure, the statement that first-choice and other candidates may apply, the awaiting-result rule and the faculty O’level lists come from the Caritas University admissions page, read on 30 October 2026. The no-test statement comes from Caritas’s admission notice signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka, with O3schools and Studentship as secondary confirmation. The course name and subject rules come from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s Caritas course list and the JAMB brochure entry for Chemical Engineering, including the “No Direct Entry” remark for Caritas, checked on 30 October 2026. Accreditation is from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (September 2026). The comparison figures come from the SUMAS and ESUT 2026/2027 notices covered in our guides. Safe target scores and worked examples are my own advice, not Caritas figures. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated when Caritas or JAMB publishes 2027/2028 figures.
