The MOUAU cut off mark for Food Science and Technology is 150 in the UTME, with MOUAU as your first choice. That is the minimum Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike gave for all courses in its 2026/2027 screening notice. MOUAU did not publish a separate figure for Food Science, so 150 is the official number to quote.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
A score of 150 lets you register for screening, and the place itself depends on how you rank against other Food Science applicants. This guide covers the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the brochure’s subject combination, MOUAU’s screening rules, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and what the degree leads to.
MOUAU cut off mark for Food Science and Technology at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| MOUAU minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, with MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice, via Myschool reprint (20 June 2026) |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official, JAMB policy meeting (11 May 2026) |
| Departmental cut-off for Food Science | Not published | No MOUAU figure exists |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 through Remita | MOUAU notice |
| College | College of Applied Food Sciences and Tourism (CAFST) | MOUAU department list |
| UTME subjects | English, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, Agricultural Science (check MOUAU’s e-brochure entry) | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint); confirm on the e-brochure |
| Safe target score | 190 to 200 and above | My advice |
MOUAU Food Science and Technology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | MOUAU minimum UTME score to register for screening, all courses, MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice signed by the Registrar, read through Myschool’s reprint (20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not verified | Blogs say 150; I could not open MOUAU’s own 2025 notice | Unconfirmed |
| Any year, Food Science and Technology only | Not published | MOUAU has never released a separate merit cut-off for this course in any source I reached | No official figure |
So the honest answer is that MOUAU runs one floor of 150 for every course, and Food Science and Technology has no published departmental cut-off. Pages that print a MOUAU “departmental cut-off” for Food Science and Technology do not cite any MOUAU document, so treat those numbers as guesses. Admission on merit is decided after screening, and the score of the last candidate admitted is not made public.
Safe target score for Food Science and Technology at MOUAU (my advice)
Food Science sits between the agriculture courses and the health-related ones in demand. This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a MOUAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Food Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening |
| 150 to 174 | Eligible; possible with excellent one-sitting O’level grades |
| 175 to 194 | Fair to good chance |
| 195 to 214 | Competitive |
| 215 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 195, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Agricultural Science at one sitting.
Catchment
MOUAU is federal and admits from all states. It has not published how it splits places between merit, catchment and educationally less developed states.
UTME subject combination for Food Science and Technology at MOUAU
The brochure’s Food Science and Technology page, as reprinted by Myschool, gives the UTME subjects as Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, and Agricultural Science, plus Use of English. The same wording appears on the version listed under Sciences.
| UTME subject | Choice |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory |
| Chemistry | Compulsory |
| Mathematics or Physics | Pick one |
| Agricultural Science | As printed in the reprint; check whether MOUAU’s entry also allows Biology |
Many Food Science candidates register Biology out of habit. Some Nigerian universities accept it here, but the reprint names Agricultural Science, and the brochure’s Human Nutrition and Dietetics page points MOUAU candidates back to the Food Science rule. Open the e-brochure on your JAMB profile, find MOUAU under Food Science and Technology, and register the subjects it shows. If you have not studied Agricultural Science, settle this before registration day.
O’level requirements
| Requirement | What the brochure says |
|---|---|
| Credits | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics |
| Sittings | MOUAU’s notice says the number of sittings is weighted; its agriculture remarks allow up to two |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Awaiting result | MOUAU told candidates not to register for screening until their results were out |
Physics needs a credit for this course. MOUAU accepts a bare pass in Physics for some agriculture degrees, so do not mix up the two rules.
Direct Entry
The brochure’s general DE rule is two A level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science, Botany or Zoology. A MOUAU-specific DE remark was not visible on the Food Science page I read, and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no DE details. For ND or HND holders, ask MOUAU’s admissions office which related fields it accepts for Food Science.
How MOUAU screening works
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set out these rules for UTME candidates:
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng |
| Registration and validation | portal.mouau.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre |
| How O’level counts | The notice says O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| Payment problems | portal@mouau.edu.ng |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the notice as reprinted |
The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not assume there is one. Plan on MOUAU ranking you on your UTME score and your O’level grades, with one sitting counting in your favour, and keep checking the portal in case a test or extra step is announced. The notice also told candidates to check the portal from time to time for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for a Food Science candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example only compares scores with the minimum and my target. It is illustrative.
Take Kelechi, who scored 198, with B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Physics and B3 in Agricultural Science, plus C5 in Biology, all from one NECO sitting.
- Eligibility: 198 minus 150 = 48. He clears MOUAU’s minimum comfortably.
- Against my safe target: 198 minus 195 = 3. He is just above my target.
- O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Agricultural Science at one sitting. He meets the rule.
- My advice: keep MOUAU first and accept quickly on CAPS. If MOUAU offers Human Nutrition and Dietetics or another CAFST course instead, take it seriously.
Now take Blessing, with 182 and her credits spread over two sittings. She is eligible, and her score is reasonable, but MOUAU’s weighting of sittings may push her down the ranking. She should still register, and keep a second plan in mind.
How to apply for Food Science and Technology at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Food Science and Technology with English, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, and Agricultural Science (or the subject MOUAU’s e-brochure entry shows). If you already registered with another school first, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
- Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
- Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then shows on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount shown on your MOUAU portal invoice.
Warning
Some websites sell “MOUAU departmental cut-off” lists, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
Studying Food Science and Technology at MOUAU
The department is in the College of Applied Food Sciences and Tourism (CAFST) at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. CAFST also runs Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology, and Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism. MOUAU has been a federal university of agriculture since November 1992.
What you study
- Early years: chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and general studies.
- Food chemistry and microbiology: what food is made of, how it spoils and how microbes are controlled.
- Processing and engineering: drying, canning, milling, fermentation, packaging and storage of Nigerian staples such as cassava, yam, rice and palm produce.
- Quality and safety: food analysis, quality control, food law and standards.
- Industrial attachment: Nigerian food science degrees normally include a period of work in industry.
MOUAU lists the degree as a B.Sc. The duration is not confirmed in MOUAU sources I reached; Food Science degrees in Nigeria usually run five years.
Accreditation and professional body
I could not confirm the programme’s current NUC accreditation status. Food scientists in Nigeria commonly join the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST); whether NIFST has assessed MOUAU’s programme is not confirmed. Ask the department before you pay acceptance.

Mistakes that cost Food Science applicants a MOUAU place
- Registering Biology without checking: the reprint names Agricultural Science for this course.
- Only a pass in Physics: Food Science lists a Physics credit.
- Treating 150 as a safe score: it only opens the screening door.
- Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
- O’level not on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
- Paying anyone outside the portal: MOUAU fees go through the Remita invoice from its portal.
If you need to switch course or school, read JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution.
MOUAU cut off mark for Food Science and Technology: frequently asked questions
